Slimming World to Harcombe?

FourArms · 02/12/2013 11:30

I've been doing SW since 29/8. Initially on EE and now mainly on red days.

However although I've lost 1lb short of 2
stone I haven't lost any weight this week and I've stuck to the plan with the exception of maybe not enough syns / HEB.

Have seen the Harcombe diet and this seems to be more like what I'm doing at the moment although I'll have to swap coffee and skimmed milk for herbal tea and stop my 10 a day satsuma habit ;)

Just wondered what people's losses had been in phase 1 switching from SW? My BMI is still in the low 30s so I've got plenty to lose!

You don't have to, but if you do then you don't have to cook it for as long.

Yesterday I had:

Oats & full fat NLY with coffee & s/s milk

Coffee & s/s milk and a pint of water

Jacket potato with tuna mayo. No butter. Large latte made with s/s milk and a pot of tea with s/s milk

Chicken fillet with jacket potato and sour cream. Pint of soda water.

Pint of water and coffee with s/s milk.

I felt bloated all day and had quite bad stomach pain (but that could be ovulation pain). I didn't feel particularly hungry between meals - ate at 8, 1 and 6. I also had no desire for other carby cheats like the lovely scones in the cafe where I had lunch or even the crisps on the plate with my lunch.

Result on the scales - down 1lb. I was lower at some point last week so will be interesting to see what happens over the next few days :)

FourArms, you've mixed a lot of carbs with protein and fat there. Are you trying phase 3? I need to get my book out again, I thought in phase 2 you can't have potatoes with meat and fats?

We had chicken thigh fillets in creamy mushroom sauce for dinner, but it was very late, about 10 pm. Just wasn't hungry before then. I did have 5 squares of chocolate though.

FourArms · 02/02/2014 18:06

It was just a carby day to mix things up & try to
restart my weightloss. We'll see!

Chicken sounds lovely :)

kazzawazzawoo · 02/02/2014 18:14

Ah I see. Hope it works Smile

The creamy chicken was gorgeous.

Today

Brunch: cottage pie Wink
Dinner: roast chicken, green beans, cauliflower
A: 3 squares 90% choc

FourArms · 02/02/2014 18:56

B - 2 scrambled eggs
L - 2 lamb chops & stir-fried cabbage
D - 2 lamb chops, cauliflower & stir-fried cabbage

Stuffed now! Need to drink some more water though - only had a pint of water & 3 cups of coffee so far.

Very quiet here becuse I continue to feel guilty.

Have totally lost my Harcombe mojo !!

Dd a longish walk yesterday (6 miles) but then came home to 8 hours of work. By midnight I had stuffed every carb in site.

Today more of the same, work and carbs.

I am blaming the weather, time of year etc. etc. but the truth is I just feel low and demotivated diet wise.

Dont want to transfer my misery so just lurking and willing you both on Smile

kazzawazzawoo · 03/02/2014 13:57

NotSure, I am off track too, in that the only thing getting me through the days is dark chocolate. I did manage to bake buns for visitors yesterday and not have any myself, but I had a small tot of brandy in the evening.

It's that time of the month, which may account for the chocolate cravings though Hmm

Notsurehowthathappened · 03/02/2014 18:12

I have become a dark chocolate addict as well. The problem is that my one square a night has now become 6-8 squares a day.

Am just feeling like a lost cause right now !!

kazzawazzawoo · 03/02/2014 18:26

Yes NotSure, my consumption has crept up too, yesterday 4 or 5 squares. I'm feeling quite low too and hormonal. But I also know I could be stuffing myself with cake, biscuits, DoubleDeckers, crisps, so it's damage limitation Wink

kazzawazzawoo · 03/02/2014 19:27

Today

B: cottage pie
L: veg and pork soup
D: stew with mashed swede
S: 4 squares 90% choc

Notsurehowthathappened · 03/02/2014 21:55

Today

B: Porridge with 50g Blueberries
L & S: Gammon / Home made Red Cabbage Coleslaw
Snack: 6 squares 85% Choc

Notsurehowthathappened · 03/02/2014 21:57

You are right Kazz I need to keep thinking 'damage limitation'

Thank you for letting me whinge and finding something positive to shake me out of it.

Notsurehowthathappened · 03/02/2014 23:36

Did either of you watch the Horizon Fat v Sugar programme?

I have just watched it on IPlayer. Fascinating viewing !!

FourArms · 04/02/2014 07:14

I didn't watch it - but I've read about it enough! Zoe H tweeted something Dr Briffa had said about it... will see if I can find it.

Well, my carb refeed day seems to have worked - I was down 1lb the day after, STS yesterday but hasn't been to the loo since the previous weigh in and am down 1.4lb today which is 0.8lb below my previous low :)

I'm not so much disillusioned with the diet as shocked how quickly it went from being easy to lose 2lb a week to plateauing. This did happen to me at SW though and once I was through it was OK again for a while. Fingers crossed!

0.6lb now until my Valentine's Day target.

Have a good day ladies. Maybe challenge yourself to not have any dark choc? What else could you have? Olives? Nuts?

OP posts:
kazzawazzawoo · 04/02/2014 07:49

Yes I watched Horizon too, and read Zoe and John Briffa's comments.

You are doing great FourArms Smile

I can follow this WOE mostly, but need to get to grips with how I feel. It's emotional eating, just not as extreme as it used to be. However, whilst I'm probably not losing weight, I feel much better than before and I'm not gaining either, so for me that's ok at the moment, a big improvement. I've got so much stuff going on, just feeling ok, not suffering with IBS is a great help.

FourArms · 04/02/2014 08:16

That's good Kazza and actually if I was you I'd be concentrating on JERFing until all your new meds are bedded into your system.

I hope the ADs work as well for you as they do for me :)

Notsurehowthathappened · 04/02/2014 10:22

I have definitely plateaued!! I have now been losing and gaining the same 2lb for 4 weeks.

Obviously I haven't P1 all that time, but apart from a couple of cake days have basically been P2 ing.

Using Fitness Pal, I can see what has been going on. Over the last 6 weeks my calories have been creeping up, week by week.

I know all the 'all calories are not equal' theory but I am convinced it is this calorie creep that is causing my issues.

The Sugar v Fat programme shocked me, especially the impact that each diet had on Cholesterol & Blood Sugar and the fact that so much of the weight loss on the low carb diet was due to Muscle loss.

However, the biggest message it reinforced for me was that it the combination of Fat and Sugar in processed foods that destroys our hunger mechanisms and causes obesity.

I like this WOE becauses it has resolved my IBS issues and started to mend my hunger mechanism, but I am not convinced it is going to shift my last 21lb.

kazzawazzawoo · 04/02/2014 10:46

NotSure, I would reread the book and make sure you are sticking to the rules and then go back to phase 1 for a bit and up your water intake.

I doubt it's to do with how many calories, just the wrong calories.

FourArms · 05/02/2014 07:02

I had my heavy low GI carb day which seemed to shake things up as I hadn't had any significant carbs since maybe some nuts on NYD.

I think I'd stopped having enough veg which pushed my calories up. I've halved the quantities of fatty meat I was having and doubled the veg. Fingers crossed.

I'm still on P1 & milk most of the time - rarely eat cheese or even NLY. Kazza's advice sounds good.

I've stayed the same as yesterday :) Happy with that as I was a bit worried that yesterday's loss was a blip.

Yesterday's food wasn't great:

B - homemade pork burger & 2 fried eggs
S - latte
L - bolognese (not sure of ingredients as eating out with no perfect options) & lettuce with blueberries. My first fruit in ages; didn't finish them as they weren't as nice as I wanted them to be.
D - pork burger with salad & garlic mayo (BC friendly)

Drinks - lots of coffee with milk, not enough water.

I also haven't been to the loo since my last weigh in. So all in all a stay the same is good!

Notsurehowthathappened · 05/02/2014 11:36

Well done FA

I agree about the veg side of things and having watched the Horizon programme suspect I have been far too low in carb terms.

I also have to respect my body. There is no way I can face heavy fat meals at Breakfast.

I have decided to just plough on P2ing but with less fat, more veg and some fruit added into the mix.

What I have taken out of the Horizon programme (which totally agrees with what Zoe is saying) is that I must not mix my fats and carbs. So the fruit will be with my morning Porridge.

kazzawazzawoo · 05/02/2014 13:30

Yesterday:

B: cottage pie
L: 4 squares 90% choc !
D: chilli with grated cheese
S: very tiny whiskey neat!

B - pork burger
L - pork burger & salad with mayo (spot the porky trend - had to use it once opened although I froze 4 more burgers)
D - bolognese with extra carrots & salad

I don't think carrots agree with me. They make my sister incredibly bloated and I feel the same right now. Wonder what the scales will say. Still haven't been to the loo though so over 48h now. Double Vit C tablets tonight!

kazzawazzawoo · 05/02/2014 19:33

Yes, I agree. Zoe and John Briffa weren't particularly enamoured with the Horizon programme, it seems they think it was biased against a high fat diet, which we know enables weight loss. The programme was quick to point out the side effects of a low carb diet, but not those of a high sugar diet.

I am more inclined to believe Zoe, who has done a lot of scientific research, than a tv programme.

kazzawazzawoo · 05/02/2014 19:36

Too much processed meat today.

B: bacon and egg
L: chicken and veg soup, salad with HM mayo
S: salami, corned beef, cheese, 4 squares 90%choc
D: gammon, fried egg, Mediterranean veg
