Slimming World to Harcombe?

FourArms · 02/12/2013 11:30

I've been doing SW since 29/8. Initially on EE and now mainly on red days.

However although I've lost 1lb short of 2
stone I haven't lost any weight this week and I've stuck to the plan with the exception of maybe not enough syns / HEB.

Have seen the Harcombe diet and this seems to be more like what I'm doing at the moment although I'll have to swap coffee and skimmed milk for herbal tea and stop my 10 a day satsuma habit ;)

Just wondered what people's losses had been in phase 1 switching from SW? My BMI is still in the low 30s so I've got plenty to lose!

Kept myself busy in the kitchen for a bit Smile Made cottage pie to have for breakfast, prepared a salad to take to work tomorrow and cooking roast chicken with roast celeriac, cauliflower and green beans for dinner Smile

For brunch had omelette including red pepper, shallots, streaky bacon, tomato and cheese. For a snack had salami and cheese rolls.

Feeling very frustrated about life in general though and having a small glass of red wine Shock

Notsurehowthathappened · 19/01/2014 18:26

I think the Cookie Dough ice cream was particularly cruel Kazz. Well done you for finding a diversion.

You are not alone in feeling down today. I am struggling and have spoken to two girlfriends this afternoon, who both have the January blues. It is too long since Christmas and Spring is a long way off.

I did smile when I went out to get the coal earlier. The first snowdrop was poking its head through the grass. They never fail to lift my mood !!

kazzawazzawoo · 19/01/2014 19:27

Yes, I think it's a rubbish time of year, I can't wait for the data to get longer. I was busy this afternoon, sorting out my son's room because he moved out two years ago, but is returning home soon and we have been using his room for all the clutter and laundry. By the time I'd done the light was fading and I still needed to take the dog out. I'm tired too, I spent all night worrying about my health and other things again, got myself in a state again HmmHmm

I think I'm going to have to go back to the drs and have a chat to put my mind at rest and also discuss my mood issues Hmm

kazzawazzawoo · 19/01/2014 19:27

days to get longer

Stupid phone.

kazzawazzawoo · 19/01/2014 19:31

No snowdrops out here yet, but I am quite far north. I went out in the garden and the bulbs are poking through, but only just.

FourArms · 19/01/2014 19:45

NSHTH - maybe a complete change from porridge for a while?

Thanks for the congrats - got three new pairs of size 14 jeans today. They all fit :)

I was really pleased to see all the bulbs poking their heads up through the grass when we tidied up after the winds last week.

Kazza - I buy 24 bottles for £3 from Farmfoods. I usually spend £25 to get 10% off too so £2.70 for 24.

Hope all your food tastes lovely and that you managed to stop at one glass of wine?

I'm also feeling inordinately cross at the moment. Seem to have no patience. Not sure why. I'm fine with the diet - absolutely zero off plan cravings & never feel hungry any more - I just eat when it's a mealtime. Ready for half term I think!

OP posts:
FourArms · 19/01/2014 19:47

Sounds a good plan Kazza. I take ADs - teeny dose but can't stand side effects of stopping completely. May see about upping the dose on days like this.

OP posts:
kazzawazzawoo · 19/01/2014 20:14

I'm only half way down my glass of wine, but I'm not a big drinker anyway. A glass of wine makes me happy GrinGrin

The water is very cheap. We do have a water filter though, so I don't mind tap water too much, as long as I have a squeeze of lemon in it.

I'm not really hungry between meals, it's boredom, frustration or sugar cravings making me eat. I'm so full of roast dinner right now Smile It was lovely. Now I'm boiling up the chicken carcass to make chicken soup to take to work this week.

kazzawazzawoo · 19/01/2014 20:15

P.s. well done with the jeans FourArms Smile

kazzawazzawoo · 19/01/2014 20:18

FourArms, it's the side effects that are stopping me trying them. When I took them last time I tried three different ones; I either had horrendous headaches, felt sick or was so tired I was like a zombie! I can't cope with feeling like that at work, but know that I am really struggling now HmmHmm Which ADs do you take and did you find you put on weight with them?

FourArms · 19/01/2014 22:58

Kazza - I take 25mg of sertraline / lustral. Over 50mg makes me v.tired. I take them at bed-time and have no side effects. I never did from day 1 and felt different almost immediately. Starting them also coincided with a massive lessening in incidence and severity of migraine headaches that I used to be plagued by. I really should stop taking them, but I prefer the calmer person I am now and I'm worried that if I stop and restart they won't have the same effect :(

OP posts:
kazzawazzawoo · 19/01/2014 23:15

That's good, as I believe sertraline is one used for anxiety? I had Prozac, then citalopram then zisprin (I think!)

All caused problems.

Notsurehowthathappened · 20/01/2014 07:40

Not a good week. 0.4lb on !!

Analysing, I have had a much higher calorie count this week (1550 average) than at any stage since I started. 56% of that was fat and only 17% Carbs. Normally I am below 1200 Calories average on this diet even though I don't actively count them (Fitness Pal does that bit).

I feel as if I am losing control and letting my greed take over, so am not surprised I have put on. I am frustrated with myself however.

Out today with absolutely no control over what we will eat as I am accompanying DD on a Birthday lunch and then going to hers for Dinner.

Need to think about what is going on today and prepare to clamber back onto that wagon tomorrow.

kazzawazzawoo · 20/01/2014 07:50

Notsure don't worry, just a natural fluctuation probably.

On this way of eating fat is good and don't count calories. Trust how your clothes feel and not the scales!

FourArms · 20/01/2014 18:19

Did you get a GP appt Kazza?

Hope you've had a lovely day with your DD NSHTH? We'll be here tomorrow to mull your thoughts over with you. :)

0.2lb on today but I've not been to the loo in a couple of days so not stressing.

B - 2 x eggs
L - chicken & mushroom salad with NLY
D - roast chicken & veg

Probably too low fat. Will try harder tomorrow!

OP posts:
kazzawazzawoo · 20/01/2014 18:38

NotSure, how you had a good birthday lunch and dinner with your dd Smile

FourArms, not made an appt yet. I keep changing my mind. I'm not coping well, but keep reading horrible things about the side effects of ADs, including lack of libido Shock Tbh mine isn't great these days anyway Shock, I can't bear the thought of it getting worse. I also couldn't cope with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, as I suffer with a phobia of vomiting and general health anxiety Hmm I'll carry on with my research.

Had a good day today, although work was manic and I was craving biscuits Hmm

B: cottage pie (swede instead of potato)
L: chicken & veg HM soup, salad with HM mayo
D: roast pork, braised leeks, cauliflower
A: salami and cheese rolls, olives

Notsurehowthathappened · 20/01/2014 21:27

Hangs head in shame !!

I dont think I deserve to be on this thread having had two taster chocolates in Hotel Chocolat, a chocolate cake at lunchtime and a quarter of a Cheesecake tonight.

Fab day out, but oh boy am I going to pay for it !!!

kazzawazzawoo · 20/01/2014 21:52

Don't fret about it, just climb back on the wagon and drink LOTS of water tomorrow! Wink

It was a special day, you have to be able to have a day off every now and again. Glad you had a fab day out Smile

FourArms · 21/01/2014 07:49

Kazza - I put off taking ADs for two years after reading the side effects on the first packet I was prescribed. Worst thing I ever did. Just an alternative view for you to think about. ((Hugs)) It's a horrid decision I know. :(

Your meals for the day sound delicious! :)

NSHTH - any gain today will only be glycogen and water. Drink lots today and it will be gone soon enough. Sounds very lovely though!!!! :)

I had a weird day yesterday. Meals were too low fat I think?

B 2 x scrambled eggs and butter
L (Sunday's dinner) chicken & mushrooms that had been cooked in butter the day before with salad. No dressing.
D Roast chicken (no skin just lean meat) with veg

In the evening I was peckish. Tried some new pork crackles - had horrible bloating reaction after about 10g (one third) of the bag. Then I had a few nuts - a low carb bag I'd bought - stopped at about 10. I was very very tempted to eat the entire bag or have some dark choc too! I managed with two cups of coffee instead. I've not felt like that before and I can only think it was because the day was too low in fat?

But... (And not sure if it was anything to do with reaction to pork crunch things) and sorry for TMI!!! I went to the loo yesterday evening. So today I'm down 1.6lb :) That means I've now lost 20% of my 29/8 starting weight :) :) 15s 4lb to 12s 2.2lb :)

Have a good day everyone - I'm starting with 4 lamb chops and a coffee!

Notsurehowthathappened · 21/01/2014 10:03

Wow FA, your weight loss is inspirational.

How much of that is since starting Harcombe?

I have put on a well deserved 1.8lb !!

FourArms · 21/01/2014 10:37

It will be gone soon enough NSHTH :)

I started THD on 3/12 weighing 185.8lb and I'd had a loss of 1lb that day so there was no 'whoosh' to carry over! I also had no big glycogen/water loss as that had already gone. I'm now 170.4lb so I've lost 15.4lb in 7 weeks :)

OP posts:
Notsurehowthathappened · 21/01/2014 10:55

I started the same day as you and have only lost 7.6lb.

Just shows how much of a difference Porridge can make wanders off in deep thought

kazzawazzawoo · 21/01/2014 11:58

So you have something instead of porridge now NotSure?

I had cottage pie again for breakfast, it's my favourite meal at the moment! I'm just not very good at cooking in advance. But I got worried about having bacon every day due to the nitrates and I'm so fed up of egg Shock. Although I do like omelette sometimes, but only with cheese and I have to be careful that I don't have too much cheese.

Notsurehowthathappened · 21/01/2014 17:08

No Kazz and having wandered around Sainsburys reading the backs of all the packs I have no clue what to do about breakfast.

I can't stand natural yoghurt and am not that fond of eggs. All I can think of is bacon and tomatoes but am not really sure if I shoud be eating so much bacon.

Reading Zoes's book again last night, I should be fine with water Porridge but it is evident that my weight loss is much slower than FA has achieved.

I can cope with slow weight loss, because this is about permanent changes to my WOE (to prevent Diabetes) but am a bit worried about how quickly it piles back on if I have even 1 day off.

perrinelli · 21/01/2014 18:03

Hello everyone, all this talk of ADs is interesting for me. I've been on fluoxetine 20mg for 6 months or so. I'll admit I was hoping it would curb my appetite and help me not to binge but I have put on weight since bring on it. I have felt miles better in myself though and had more perspective on my weight, realizing its not the be all and end all. I too wish I'd taken them earlier. However, I'm now feeling so much better I wonder if I should try and come off them. I wonder if they are inhibiting weight loss. I'm trying desperately not to focus on weight but instead think about how much better I'm feeling eating like this but it is a but disheartening that I've barely lost more than the 5lb that went in the first 5 days! Here's my food for today:
B: porridge & skimmed milk
L: 2 eggs, 2 bacon, spinach & tomatoes fried in butter
Snack: full fat NLY, ham with Philly
Dinner will be 97% sausages with veg.

I know I'm still not drinking enough, prob just 2 teas and 1 glass of water today so far.
