So here we are! Over 160 of us signed up!

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to enter your first weight

If you aren't on the list for any reason, just go to the bottom of the list and add your name - the lovely Willie will sort out the alphabetisation later.

From experience of previous Bootcamps, the chat thread can move very quickly! So, if you have a specific or particular question, please post it on the questions thread I will do my best to check it as often as I can, as will other seasoned Bootcampers.

If you have a really burning issue, please feel free to PM me and I will do my very best to help you as soon as possible.

And if you're looking for inspiration for things to cook, here's the recipe thread

Here is a brief reminder of the rules:

We do not eat any of the following during Bootcamp:

bread
rice
pasta/noodles
potatoes
flour
pastry
sugar
chocolate/sweets
biscuits/cookies
crisps

And here are the ten rules of Bootcamp:

  1. You must eat breakfast.
  2. Avoid processed food
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited)
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

More detail/explanation of these rules is on the spreadsheet ? look at the tabs at the bottom.

One final word from me ? the disclaimer! I am not a doctor, a scientist, a dietician nor a nutritionist. The advice that is given here is based on my own experience of low carbing, as well as the reading I have been doing over the last few years.

If you have a medical condition, or you are taking long term medication, please take advice from your GP/consultant before starting to low carb.

Good luck everyone!

Pixie, I got the recipe from Pig to Twig recipe book. You need a pack of chicken livers, approx half a pack of butter, some fresh sage if possible and a small tub of double cream. Fry the livers in 30g of butter until browned but still soft inside. Take liver out and put in lender and then fry the sage leaves briefly in the same butter. Add to liver, then add cream and blitz in food blender - I used my hand blender and it worked fine. Season with a little salt and pepper and when in Bootcamp light you can add a glug of brandy too. Melt the rest of the butter until separated and pour the clear butter liquid on top of pâté. Allow to cool and set and keep in fridge. Yum!

loopyloou · 11/09/2013 21:09

BlackAffronted, how you make crackling? Do you buy the skin/fat from the butcher? And then roast it with salt?

bulletwithbutterflywings · 11/09/2013 21:17

Roobot I use a stick blender for my bulletproof coffee. It come out all frothy and delicious :)

bulletwithbutterflywings · 11/09/2013 21:18

It comes out...

SteppingOnLego · 11/09/2013 21:48

I blended my bulletproof coffee in the big blender (the one I make smoothies in for the kids) which worked well. Might try stick blender tomorrow - less washing up!

B - cabbage soup and a tin of oily tuna with a tiny bit of leek and some butter
L- big green salad & cheddar cheese
S - 5 blackberries
T - steak, 1 piece broccoli in cream & pepper, 5 small strawberries & elmlea single cream

2 cups of regular tea

I think I am ok for carb count (half cup of blackberries being 3.5g), cream being 2.2g per 100ml and strawberries being 1g for a medium one

I've broken the berry rule but do you think it is ok? Is it the case that the more carbs you have the less ketosis you are in and the less fat you burn?

Mouseface · 11/09/2013 22:11

Evening Campers -

My friend who has Crohn's is coming next weekend and she can't have carbs or gluten so she's has loads of resources that she's going to bring with her :)

Anything good and I will of course share on here.

Off to bed after a fab day! I feel great. Hit my water target, got loads done and actually had so much energy that I kicked ass with all the things I'd not been doing, putting off etc....

The house is about to get an overhaul! Watch out house! Grin

Thank you so much BIWI and all other contributors and committed supporters Thanks

Without you, I wouldn't be almost a stone lighter (all without exercise due to my disabilities) and just using this wonderful WOE. :)

Night all, good luck for breakfast xxx

aftermay · 11/09/2013 22:24

Argh, I feel so annoyed about that hummus. I was do smug about it too as it was with celery, not toast. Ah well, now I know. I'll get some inspiration from others on here as well. Day 3 without diet coke or anything fizzy apart from sparkling water. I feel ok and tonight I tackled some overdue paperwork, that energetic.

CorrieDale · 11/09/2013 22:24

Tonight for pudding I had ff Greek yogurt with coconut milk and a wee dribble of lime juice. And it was tremendous.

(Also had peanut butter on cucumber slices for a snack after Pilates, and that was also tremendous. I only twigged after I'd eaten it that peanut butter is actually made of nuts and therefore forbidden...).

Mouseface · 11/09/2013 22:37

Sorry, my friend has Celiac's not Crohn's as I put in my post so she's wheat and gluten free. Looking forward to her coming :) xxx

whodunnit · 11/09/2013 22:49

oh dear - I have just trawled back throught the thread and seen that berries are off the menu completely and totally. That's a bit of a bugger, as I may have messed up all my day for ketosis. Never mind - it's a bit annoying not to see the scales move, but at least the WOE is not unpleasant if a little challenging.

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 11/09/2013 23:12

whodunnit yep it's rule number 8 in BIWIs OP! But after the first 2 strict weeks you can add small amounts of berries. Some people choose to stay on full-on Bootcamp for longer than 2 weeks but its up to you.

B scrambled eggs
L ham rolls with Philly and cucumber
S slice of cheese
D sausages with creamy braised cabbage, salad with cucumber
S half a sausage, couple of teaspoons of yoghurt

If any newbies haven't heard or, or tried, creamy braised cabbage, please search for the recipe and give it a go. It is honestly one of my favourite discoveries on this WOE (I hardly ate green veg before). DH tried to pinch some out of the pot even! until I smacked his hand with the spoon

BIWI · 11/09/2013 23:34

Elmlea isn't real cream!

And please - really, no fruit onBootcamp - it is too sweet

Hello Bootcampers!

I missed the last BC as new job diminished planning time and exhaustion prevented will power overpowering wine-o-clock desire and it has one a bit wrong. Not a lot on, but the downward trend has been reversed and I really really need some inspiration. And that's you lovely ladiesGrin

Can someone please add me to the spreadsheet as I can't seem to get it to work.

I am142lb, my name is kitchenfairy and I need to lose 10lb to be in my healthy BMI (yes, I am a short arse!)

I can't post much as work place bans MN but I will check in at the end of the day Smile loving the downward journey stories and brilliant ideas!

Lavenderhoney · 12/09/2013 05:57

Morning campers:)

I have been lc since jan, and though that I wouldn't get carb flu, but clearly I have been lettings carbs creep in - must be the wine- as last evening I was so tired I couldn't move off the sofa. It took all I had to get to bed. Only to be woken again by dd, I was almost in tears:(

I have a raging thirst too, so am going to drink even more water and remember to salt.

The bacon and egg muffin thing looks lovely, thank you! I'm going to do it at the weekend. Dh has seen it too, and is very keen, so I might let him make it:)

About to head for the gym, so feeling virtuous:)

JustasmallGless · 12/09/2013 06:32

Welcome back thekitchenfairy and lavenderhoney. Although carb flu may have hit it shouldn't last as long as your body should readjust pretty quickly.

For those who are struggling with the concept of low carbing I really would recommend reading about the science behind it and why it works.

It is a huge leap of faith to go from
Everything we have been taught ie you must eat fruit
No you don't need fruit- it's full of sugar, bad for your teeth and your body was only designed to eat Berries and other fruits in season. The idea of 5 a day came about by a group set up- guess who was involved in it- companies who sell fruit!!
That's just a synopsis as am off to work now.

The books I have read which helped me are Dr John Briffa for the science bit and the idiot proof diet which is great for emotional eaters.

Seriously this is a WOE for the rest of your life.and there are sooooo many health benefits as well as losing weight.

You ARE worth it

Roobot · 12/09/2013 06:44

Holy crap! I had a peek on the scales and wow! Is it all water weight?

sybilfaulty · 12/09/2013 07:04

As I understand it Roobot, glycogen (stored energy) is the first to go, after which your body starts burning its own fat. Each molecule of glycogen is stored with 4 molecules of water, hence the fantastic losses at the beginning. Once your body switches to fat burning, you slow right down to 1 -2 lb a week, which is healthy and means you aren't losing muscle tissue as well as lard.

It is a revelation, isn't it, after so many years of eating low fat crap to be able to eat delicious, natural food and still lose weight. It makes me angry to think companiese like WW delude their customers so that they can sell that awful processed food. The first ingredients of the sweets are chemicals - not even proper sugar! The classes entrap you and then you are lured into buying the fake food. The only way to stay slim on that is to deprive yourself for life and / or eat fake food for as long you can afford it. No siree.

I had baked mushrooms with blue cheese and a salad last night. It was wonderful. Not an E number in sight.

Have a great day, y'all.

Purple2012 · 12/09/2013 07:07

Just stepped on the scales. Still no loss. The first 4 days I lost over 3lb. I am still the same as I was 8 days ago. I don't know where I am going wrong. Im not eating fruit or nuts or any bad carbs like bread etc. I have almost gone over to full fat yoghurt - I have been having a tiny bit of fat free with the ff stuff to get used to the creamy taste. I am just about there with the water. I used to drink mainly diet coke, I've cut that down drastically and am drinking mostly water. Im also never hungry so I think I am eating enough. Im cooking chicken in butter instead of grilling it too.

I don't know what to do. Im afraid to stop doing this,

Purple2012 · 12/09/2013 07:08

Pressed too soon.

If I stop this and go back to low calorie with carbs I know I will put on weight. I just don't know what I am doing wrong.

JustasmallGless · 12/09/2013 07:11

You aren't doing anything wrong 4lbs is a great loss. Well done!!

Weight loss is not linear and sometimes the scales don't reflect inches lost

Try measuring yourself and only weigh twice a week

JustasmallGless · 12/09/2013 07:13

Keep the faith and read about why it makes sense

You wil never go back I promise
