The other thread was almost full, so here's a bright, shiny new one.

And here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And just in case you haven't discovered it yet, here is the recipe thread. Some truly lovely recipes on here that are worth a try.

A glass of unsweetened almond milk and a breakfast muffin for a ligth breakfast? Breakfast muffin is eggs, ham, spring onion, dribble of cream & parmesan mixed together then divided into a muffin tray & baked for 15 minutes.

captainmummy · 23/08/2013 08:19

i've just had breakfast of marmite on cheese!! Blush

KinkyDorito · 23/08/2013 13:00

Reading 'Wheat Belly' on my quest for information. Suddenly my egg sandwich is not looking so appealing...

Starting low carb Monday and can't come soon enough; I'm a guest until then so will just have to suck it up. Plus, can't face carb-flu on the days out we have planned at weekend. And the peeing. As soon as I get home, I'm off to supermarket to get myself in order.

NewStartNewStory · 23/08/2013 16:31

Urgh, signed up for new boot camp and then fell spectacularly into a vat of chocolate. There is no other way to describe this wagon falling. Crash removing the caffine from my system is my only excuse. from 8 or 9 cups per day to zero (well 1/2tsp normal coffee mixed with same amount of decaff) not fallen into the carbs just the sugar iyswim. TOM as also coincided with this all. hoping to clear the caffine withdrawl from my system in time for the start of bootcamp. just rolling with the sugar thing until then. Bizzarly now tom has arrive less bothered by the sugar. So perhaps this fall will be good in the long run. Needed to shift my caffine dependancy! Also come off all pain killers except the rare odd dose of paracetamol at the same time. Pain is pretty bad atm, I must be crazy. Nope this is just the way life likes to treat me. Done way too much recently and need a rest day. Hmm

Will be back for bootcamp. Until then good luck to all, onwards and downwards.

I found today a struggle. I went for a run and had an omelette with 2 eggs, cheese, ham and onion. I also had an atkins bar. Dh arrrived home with a bag of carbs, rolls, chocolate, oj, sweets, pepsi, breads, biscuits etc... I found myself thinking things like I could just eat carbs at the weekends and really craving a slice of wholegrain toast or an apple. I went out and did another shop, 4th one this week. Am definitely spending alot on meat. I had lamb fried in garlic, mushrooms and onions and a cauliflower/brocolli cheesy bake. I had a bowl of berries and double cream for afters. I know I shouldnt have berries on induction but the kids had picked them from the garden and it cant have done too much damage I dont think. Its my b'day on Sunday so hopefully I wont have any cake.

I like the idea of a smoothie for breakfast some mornings. Can I have one on induction?

CheeseAndFriedMushrooms · 23/08/2013 21:46

How do you get rid of the oily/fatty taste in your mouth? Just has salmon and veg all cooked in herb butter, and I really fancy a cup of tea now to get rid of the taste of butter Hmmdrank about 750ml water with my meal too.....

BerylStreep · 23/08/2013 22:05

Neither you shouldn't strictly be having fruit on induction. The idea is to break the dependency on sugar, albeit natural ones. You can introduce berries on bootcamp lite.

My big cycle event is on Sunday. Am really looking forward to it. BIWI do you have any tips on training whilst doing lc? I think the whole thing will probably take 7 1/2 hours including stops, and there are 3 stops in total, approx every 20 miles. I'm planning to have Greek yoghurt and berries for breakfast, then take 2 boiled eggs and mayo, 3 sticks of cheese, 3 mini pepperami, macadamia nuts, and some small bars of 90% chocolate. I'm really limited for space.

BIWI · 24/08/2013 08:24

Beryl I haven't really a clue, to be honest, as I've never been involved in such an endurance feat! But I'll have a look and see if I can find anything.

Will they be providing food for you at your stops? And if so, do you know what will be/can you ask for anything special?

Sorry I haven't been posting much lately, I didn't get a good Internet connection while I was at my parents. I stalled last week with being reliant on someone else's cooking - too much carby temptation and too little fat - but my mum tried really hard so I appreciate that. Anyway the scales are moving down again and I'm looking forward to bootcamp next month. I finally got round to flicking through the slow cooker cookbook someone on here recommended (was it Crabby?) so I've got some new things to try once the kids are back at school.

BIWI · 24/08/2013 08:35

I haven't been able to find very much, Beryl, but this is a start

Have you been training for the race? If so, what have you been packing to eat during those sessions?

One thing I would suggest is that you have a more substantial breakfast - I'd have some scrambled eggs as well, if you can manage it.

And this, from Paleovelo.com;

In case you are wondering whether it is really possible to do long-distance riding or touring while following the Paleo diet, I thought you might enjoy looking at the blog Cavegirl, End to End. This woman rode from one tip of Britain to the other, putting in over 12 hours per day. Here is her report on what she ate:

My daily eating was as follows; breakfast ? scrambled eggs, some fresh fruit (strawberries/blueberries) and where they had provided it, natural full fat Greek yoghurt. For the designated Pitstops they provided me with cans of tuna, meat and cheese, sometimes some natural yoghurt and apples if I wanted them. During my cycling I consumed between 4 and 6 Nakd bars ? these provide around 14 g of carbs per bar from raw compressed dried fruit and nuts. At the evening meal I ate the meat/fish dish with vegetables (no potatoes) and salad drenched with olive oil. On arriving back after each day I snacked on some nuts and very dark (85%) chocolate. When I weighed myself on Monday morning I was exactly the same weight as when I set off although I?ve dropped a kg since so I?m busy eating as my body repairs itself. I?ve also developed some impressive abs, must be leaner and all that climbing helps too!

It was me Stunt. Smile

StuntNun · 24/08/2013 09:54

Many thanks Crabby it's a great book and sooo cheap too.

CrabbyBigBottom · 24/08/2013 11:30

Glad to help! Smile

BerylStreep · 24/08/2013 12:03

BIWI thank you. I knew I had seen something before about lc and training, but couldn't find it. Everything I was looking at was saying that to lc and do any long distance was doomed to failure.

I haven't really done this distance/ time before. So far the longest I have done is 36 miles (I know, I should have done a longer session before this) and I don't normally bring snacks with me, just water.

I will try to find out what the lunch is likely to be.

Mouseface · 24/08/2013 12:10

Hello all :)

Still on holiday and was starting to feel sick in the mornings because I was eating greek yog with double cream and vanilla extract (sugar free) and decided that it was that doing the damage. Because I take a hell of a lot of pain medication in the morning (and at night) I need something more substantial for breakfast.

SO, I'm going to have to drag myself to the hob and cook eggs with something added (shrooms or a bit of low sugar ham/bacon) that will be protein and fat heavy rather than dairy loaded?

What do you think?

I have very little appetite and I'm not hungry at all, I just make sure I eat three meals a day, the largest is usually loads of salad for lunch and then fresh meat/fish with green veg/cauli for dinner and 5 pints of water (apx 2.5ltr) a day.

I too have discovered that 2 sqr of Lindt 70%+ choc is enough to curb any sweet cravings that I get.

Are 5 strawberries with a splash of double cream for desert really bad? I quite fancy that for after dinner tonight.

I'm not sure if I've lost anything but DH said that he can see and feel that I have (he means when he hugs me) and my trousers are falling off me!

Plus, I have an ever increasing waist!

So to all of those moaning, whining, (no doubt jealous and overweight themselves) criticizing people out there who are having a go at the WOE we're doing - I'm sending a big fat raspberry!!! Grin

Be back later, if I can get online, it's hit and miss here! Well done to those who have lost or not gained and have stuck to it on their hols! It's not easy but it's better that we're self catering :)

Plus, I can't exercise because of my disability so I really do have to rely on food and water :)

Bye for now xxx

Secondsop · 24/08/2013 13:26

Why oh why did I weigh myself during my period??

BIWI · 24/08/2013 14:04

Schoolgirl error, Secondsop Grin

Beryl if you've managed 36 miles without anything maybe you won't need a huge amount? Obviously it would be good to have something just in case!

You could also think about Powerade Zero - a 0g carb electrolyte drink

Mouse sounds like you're doing really well! Re the breakfast, would scrambled eggs be easier for you? They don't take long to make.

Strawberries sound fine to me, but just be careful if you're also eating chocolate!

OP posts:
Mouseface · 24/08/2013 14:07

I used to gain 4-6lbs during my period and before it so I know how you feel Second. Step away from the scales, they're not your friend :( but we are :) x

Mouseface · 24/08/2013 14:14

BIWI yep, scrambled eggs sound good.... Thanks. I just nerd to get used to breakfast which is taking forever but I'm determined to keep going :) plus I don't have strawberries and 2 squares of choc on the same day.

How are YOU doing lovely BIWI? xxx

We're off swimming, it's a special needs session for children and families with disabilities and it's free, fab huh?

BIWI · 24/08/2013 14:22

Oh, erm, OK.

I haven't been on the scales for a while - had some time at my dad's and food choices were all over the place. With predictable consequences

I have been busy with work so not going to the gym as much - but I have a new personal trainer, who is working me very hard, and my osteopath is very happy with the progress on my shins, so I'm back to running. Did a 30 minute run this morning, and am hoping to manage more runs during the week.

So hopefully getting back on track, and ready to start the next Bootcamp!

Hi,

My DH has been advised by the GP to cut out carbs as he was borderline diabetic and overweight. He's done really well and lost half a stone since Monday.

He now wants some snacks for tonight, has anyone got any good suggestions? Don't mind if they're high in fat.

WillieWaggledagger · 24/08/2013 15:56

Pork scratchings? The ones with least artificial ingredients are the 'posh' ones (that is the brand name) which are sold in waitrose

A small amount of nuts (macadamia prob best)

Selection of cold meats or cheeses

Celery with dips - I make one which is blue cheese mashed up with full fat cream cheese

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/08/2013 16:17

Well done to your DH. Other snacks could be olives, cucumber or celery with pâté, crisps made from cheese slices too!

solveproblem · 24/08/2013 17:48

Thanks, that's some great ideas. Grin We've gone for some honey few melon, some almonds and Pepsi max.

Not the lowest carb food ever but a nice Saturday treat. Will keep your ideas in mind for next weekend!
