The other thread was almost full, so here's a bright, shiny new one.

And here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And just in case you haven't discovered it yet, here is the recipe thread. Some truly lovely recipes on here that are worth a try.

Sorry my salmon was 1.3g of carbs (0.9g per 100g) thought it sounded high

prettybird · 19/08/2013 21:44

Breakfast of Greek yoghurt, cream and cinnamon, snacks of pecan nuts (x15), brazil nuts (x2), 4 squares of dark chocolate Blush, rooibos and coconut oil and then a yummy supper of a grilled pork belly slice, mashed neeps with plenty of butter and cabbage braised in butter and a glass and half of wine :) Even resisted the ice cream that ds had for dessert :)

Must go and have some more water :)

TheRedRabbit · 19/08/2013 22:17

Today I had:

B: crustless quiche with bacon and courgette
L: Pret chicken salad and 2 square

TheRedRabbit · 19/08/2013 22:18

Today I had:

B: crustless quiche with bacon and courgette
L: Pret chicken salad and 2 squares chocolate
D: aubergine, mozarella and parmesan bake. 4 raspberries and 2

TheRedRabbit · 19/08/2013 22:21

Sorry my phone went a bit nuts there!

2 squares chocolate, that should be at the end.

I know too much chocolate today but my boss was really mean for no reason and it made me reach for the chocolate. Emotional eating, yes I know. Not sure how to stop that...I have to admit it did help Blush

OhCobblers · 19/08/2013 22:28

Does anyone have a nightmare with their period and water retention? Mine has started and as I will now retain water for days i won't know how much weight, if any, I'm losing. It then takes days to lose once period is over.

Very depressing when I've lost a few pounds and feel like I'm back at square one as I'm so bloated? Thanks for any tips.

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 19/08/2013 23:14

I find drinking masses of water helps with water retention, as does upping potassium and salting food a bit more. Have some guacamole with salt and pepper and chilli with spinach salad maybe? With dippy cucumber sticks? And a vat of water... That is what I do anyway.

silverangel · 20/08/2013 08:48

Hi everyone,

Can I jump in and join please?! I have put my name down for bootcamp proper but really want to make a start now. I was messing around with Dukan for a while but after reading more and more of your threads I think this is more acheivable.

I realistically need to shift 2 stone of post baby weight and far too much booze / bread weight.

I drink gallons of water anyway so dont forsee that being a problem but I dont eat egg so am going to have to get a bit imaginative I think. Yesterday was fine but today I forgot my Total yogurt for breakfast so in an emergency dash to M&S I picked up a pack of mini sausages - is that a disaster - they have 5g carbs per 100g?

As an on / off follower of weight watchers it is hard to get my head around eating fat esp oil / butter!

CrabbyBigBottom · 20/08/2013 09:19

Welcome Silver of course you can join now. 5g carb sausages sin't the end of the world. M&S are wuite good for low carb on-the-go food, from what I hear - chicken legs, prawns, etc.

Just checking in to say hi really. I've slipped a bit lately and haven't weighed myself for ages. I've found myself in a maintenance WOE, I think, where I stick to the low carb 85% of the time but am having the odd bit of bread, roast potatoes and let's not dwell on a child's birthday party where there was pizza and gorgeous cake! etc. It's how I see things longer term I guess - not so restrictive that I can't go to the pub and have a couple of halves of cider/join in a birthday meal/eat a treat meal occasionally, but finding it easy to slip back into low carbing the rest of the time. I made a fantastic crustless quiche yesterday that DD was raving over, and I didn't miss the pastry at all, in fact it was nicer without!

However the fact remains that I've still got another stone or so to lose with the winter season of steamed puddings and dumpling casseroles lying ahead... Shock Grin I'm going to sign up for the September bootcamp and carry on as I am until then. I am finding it a huge positive that this has become a WOE that I find easy and natural to keep to the majority of the time. The key, I think, is that I've now got a lot of recipes and low carb options there in my head for when I'm doing the shopping and meal planning, and I actually prefer them to the higher carb version so there isn't a feeling of deprivation at all.

Anyway enough of my waffling. I've got my annual re-assessment tomorrow which I'm petrified about and have loads of work to do so better crack on. Well done to all the losers and STSers who are sticking to it, and keep on keeping on the stallers and the tryers! Wink

BlackAffronted · 20/08/2013 09:32

ohcobblers, I get that and it stalls my weightloss for a week or two :( at the very start, I had spotting & bloating for almost 2 weeks Shock I just kept up the massive water drinking, as nothing else at all seemed to help. I dropped loads of weigth after it though Grin

NigellasGuest · 20/08/2013 09:43

OK so I weigh myself this morning, and I am 10 stone 11 lb. Not very good.
I repeat weighing myself to make sure, and it's the same.

So I weigh myself again and I am 10 stone 8 lb. Much nicer!

A final weigh to check, and I am 10 stone 10 lb.

And these are on the weight watcher scales which up to now have been very good. I replaced the battery very recently, too.

So, I dig out the cheap old Boots scales (£5.99) which I rejected a while back, and on which I ALWAYS used to weigh a few pounds more than on the WW ones. Guess what - I'm 10 stone 4 lb on those.

I am totally fucked up in the head now, which I shouldn't be. I KNOW I need to go by what's happening with my clothes, do they feel looser etc., how am I feeling, etc. However, I do like to see a number, any number as long as I know it is correct. GRRRRRRRRR.

Rant over, sorry everyone Confused

Right, have been putting together a menu plan of sorts, could someone tell me how to do a cheesy eggy topping (for on top of shepherds pie type dinners) ? It sounds great, and could be used for a lot of things I think.also in a lasagna, what could I use as a layer, I don't want to use more cheese than I normally would IYSWIM?
Am going to look up some soups as well, and look up an alternative sausage and bacon casseroles as every one likes them here.
Around the three, four week stall I stopped weighing myself as it was really disheartening. I weighed myself a few weeks later and was Shock at how much I'd lost. Perhaps try not to focus on weight loss as much as enjoying how you feel now ( I felt so much healthier and awake at this point). Find the positive and focus on that rather than fretting about the scales. Smile

prettybird · 20/08/2013 11:17

Twit - I posted a tasty "mash" recipe on the Bootcamp recipe thread here which uses cauliflower, sour cream, parmesan, bacon, neeps (optional) and nutmeg. Very tasty :)

For layering in lasagne, I have an American lasagne recipe which doesn't use a cheese sauce but instead layers with ricotta (or cottage cheese) mixed with beaten egg, sliced mozarella and grated parmesan instead - alternating those layers with the ragu and lasagne sheets. Haven't made it since I've been on Boot Camp, but I've read on here that leeks sliced lengthways and opened up makes a good subsitute for the lasagne sheets. Alternatively, you could use long thin slices of aubergine and/or courgette.

Twit · 20/08/2013 13:08

Thanks prettybird courgette would be okay, doesn't aubergine turn it into more of a moussaka? It sounds a lot like the one my Greek stepdad makes? Still an idea....
Ok, thicko alert, what can I use instead of shallots? What veg broth should I use not homemade what is a green salad?
(Have been looking through the recipe threads lol).

Twit · 20/08/2013 13:20

I'm signed up for bootcamp again Grin.
Am trying to prepare a meal plan and shopping list.
Wink Grin

prettybird · 20/08/2013 14:44

Shallots (especially the banana ie the big ones which are less of a faff to peel) are generally deemed to be an acceptable alternative to onions.

Yes, aubergine would make it more like a moussaka - but it would still be tasty! Grin

The Marigold vegetable bouillon powder is good if you are looking for a vegetarian alternative.

Green salad is just that - green leaves with a nice usually home-made dressing of olive oil with a wee bit of wine vinegar - ( not balsamic). I also use a wee bit of grain mustard and some garlic if I can be bothered and salt and pepper.

AngryFeet · 20/08/2013 14:44

Hi everyone,

I did low carb last year but fell of the wagon and regained all the weight and more in the last 18 months. Lost 1.5 stone slowly since Jan just cutting portions down but need to get going and it worked well last time.

Today I had 2 rashers streaky bacon, eggs and mushrooms for brunch as I woke so late. Dinner will be a small bit of cheeseburger pie with asparagus and brocolli.

13st 6 today, 4 stone to lose.

BIWI · 20/08/2013 15:28
Grin

BIWI is at work, Twit - and won't be home tonight until around 10pm.

Will try and have a proper read then.

Great start angryfeet :)

Twit · 20/08/2013 15:40

Sorry I wasn't meaning Right This Minute, just, you know sometime.

Not sure i can get shallots around here (ridiculous I know ).... Hmmm
Green leaves like baby spinach and watercress?

Any ideas on the cheesy eggy topping?

Sorry for being dim.
I'm almost there with a plan of action I think.

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/08/2013 15:42

twit we have made lasagne by laying a bolognese sauce with creamy sauce and then either emmenthal sheets, courgettes or aubergines. For the cheese sauce bit we chuck full fat cream cheese, double cream and some grated cheese together in a pan - it tends to be a thicker spreading consistency when we do it, rather than a runny sauce, once in the oven and melted it is divine. We just sort of throw it together willy nilly tbh but this recipe looks lovely!

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/08/2013 15:46

Green salad - I just use different types of lettuce leaf (little gem, iceberg, lollo Rosso or whatever it is called, rocket, baby spinach , watercress etc..)

If you can't get shallots, I would just use onions but use them in moderation and leave them out if not necessary - get onions evey week in our veg box so tend to use them.

I don't know about a cheesy, eggy topping. I would probably just mash cauliflower or swede and mix that with lots of butter, cream and cheese rather than add eggs to a shepherds pie type meal!!

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/08/2013 15:47

how about the topping from this recipe?

silverangel · 20/08/2013 16:00

Could you use full fat creme fraiche (is it allowed)? Jamie Oliver uses the reduced fat stuff in his recipe and it works really well...

captainmummy · 20/08/2013 16:31

Teit - I don't tend to use shallots (expensive) I use finely chopped leek instead. Sometimes i usethe green bit (less 'oniony') or you could use the white bit for more flavour.

Not sure what you mean about an eggy topping for shepherd pie; mashed cauli or swede would be my choice, with grated cheese ontop
