Well done everyone who completed the Summer Bootcamp!

here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you want to continue adding to it

Obviously there are many of us who want to continue, either to lose more weight or just for general support to help with this WOE, so here is a brand new, shiny chat thread.

As for me, having slipped a lot a little when I was away, I'm firmly back on the wagon today.

And can I remind you, that if you haven't completed the survey we would be very grateful for your views/thoughts on how we can improve Bootcamp.

Beryl and prettybird it can be just as bad the other way round... I once saw someone I know (after a long while) and she said she was due to give birth any day... I said wow I wouldn't have known you were pregnant... you could see her thinking, So, you think I'm so fat that being pregnant doesn't make any difference? A couple of years on, she is now occasionally just about talking to me again.

Negroni · 18/07/2013 22:01

Great article BIWI, really good read.

Beryl! I am so glad you put the electrician right about the etiquette of never asking if a woman is pregnant or not.

A drunk man on the tube once insisted on giving up his seat for me after loudly and mistakenly claiming I was pregnant. I tried to put him right but he was too drunk to understand. To make matters worse he wrongly presumed that the male friend I was with was the father and kept making wink wink comments to him about the impending birth. I was totally Blush both about the fact that I looked fat and pregnant especially in front of friend and the whole tube carriage. My friend was Blush for me and at the fact that the drunk man thought we were a couple. The only person not at all Blush was the jolly drunk man who thought he was being a gentleman. I am still Blush Blush Blush at the memory even though it was about 12 years ago.

Good luck Mouse hope you manage to get started. If you're on medication that bungs you up, be aware, this way of eating means that you poo less often (I guess you're just not eating so much bulk like bread, fruit, cereal). To avoid constipation drinking loads of water and eating fat are the things to do. But just be aware of it. (I confess to taking a laxative fairly early on in this before I'd worked out that lots of water/fat was important)

LilyAmaryllis · 18/07/2013 22:07

B- scrambled eggs, mushrooms fried in butter
L - sardines, salad, mayo
D - celeriac chips, ratatouille, the rest of the sardines!

Cherrypi · 18/07/2013 22:22

Hi all,
Anyone see the Cherry Healey supermarket programme earlier? Advocated high protein over high carb but then promoted low fat dairy.

B- yoghurt and nutmeg, coffee with cream
L- Asda french chilli sausages, scrambled egg with butter and cream, salad and french dressing
D - chicken and tomato soup with cream
S- celery with philiadelphia, a lidl pepperami, a cheesestring

Hmm too much dairy? I managed to resist a twister ice lolly though.

OhCobblers · 19/07/2013 08:34

Very disheartened as I'm back up to last weeks weight of 11.4!!!!! Don't understand where I'm going wrong? I am on some meds a the mo so might have something to do with it. Drank over 2 litres of water yesterday which is a miracle. Ate only low carbs this week and apart from win on Wed haven't cheated (I don't think?!).

Any ideas?

NewStartNewStory · 19/07/2013 09:46

Not enough water Ohcobblers. I am a similar weight and supposed to be drinking a minimum of 3ltrs/day and in this heat it is closer to 4ltrs plus that gets drunk.

Sneaky mid week weigh in and I am down to 70.5kg that is a whole 1.5kg since i last stood on the scales and despite carb creep!

Negroni · 19/07/2013 10:39

I agree with New you should up the water. I am on about 3l a day and it seems to be helping lose all the weight I put on a week ago

Have formed a strategy for today's posh restaurant lunch. No to bread, yes to moderate wine, yes to continuous water drinking, low carb starter and main. If puddings amazing, have one, if not have scoop or 2 of ice cream or cheese!

Cherrypi · 19/07/2013 11:23

Back down to where I was and lost an extra half a pound. I need to drink more water too. Any tips seasoned water drinkers?

daisychicken · 19/07/2013 11:36

Oh Cobblers Don't forget some meds do bung you up and best to weigh once you've been to the toilet Wink

Mouse I have prescribed laxatives because of tramadol (though I've changed drugs now) so worth remembering that it can bung you up but GP should be able to offer you something to help AND as I've said above.. only weigh yourself once you've been to the loo!!!

Doing ok here.. plodding on and researching new recipes - tesco mag have a recipe for pork San choy bow - a pork and veg spicy mix wrapped in lettuce leaves plus a recipe for halloumi, courgette, green bean and tomato salad which would be easily adjustable. Both sound yum!

daisychicken · 19/07/2013 11:39

cherrypi - cold cold cold water is best! I also have a soda stream so occasionally fizz some water and pop in the fridge - feels like a treat!

That said.. I've never liked fizzy drinks or squash and only ever has pure juice occasionally.. I've always been a cold water fan or preferable tea tea tea with a hint of coffee! Lol!

NewStartNewStory · 19/07/2013 11:56

I have a 1.5ltr bottle that i used for measuring I know i need to have two at least to get my minimum. I find that the only way is to set yourself a target. ie between getting up and lunch i try to get 1x bottle drunk and then get the second drunk by bedtime. it is hard but because i know exactly how much i have or havent drunk it is easier. I put the bottle in the freezer to chill for an hour and half this morning it is lovely and cool in this hot. although don't do what i did last night and forget to remove it cos it is very hard to drink as a very large lump of ice. Blush

NewStartNewStory · 19/07/2013 11:58

Oh and i don't count what i drink as water/dilute squash (my treat in this heat to stop me diving into icecream in this heat)/coffee etc in my water total. I only count the pure water i drink.

Not doing great on carb creep again today. Coffee is my downfall.

NewStartNewStory · 19/07/2013 12:00

urgh lets try that first sentance again so it makes sense BlushBlush

Oh and i don't count what i drink as water if it comes in the form of dilute squash coffee

that make more sense?

CheeseAndMushroomToastie · 19/07/2013 12:56

Marking place to read later, as intending to start this on Monday once DH has left the country! Those of you breastfeeding can I ask what you tweaked to bootcamp light please?

BeenieBaby · 19/07/2013 16:29

Alright I'm taking the plunge and starting low-carbing!! Still have some stuff to get through at home though (an orange and a few easy bean veg pots and will start once they're finished. I've stocked up on fresh veg, eggs, olives and smoked fish (pescatarian) and the plan is to have an eggy/veg breakfast, a fishy salad for lunch and grilled cheese/ veg for dinner. I have been cutting down my carbs gradually and have gotten to no sugar, no bread/pasta/potatoes, but its been a struggle and I have cravings for them!

StuntNun · 19/07/2013 17:09

It gets easier when you're completely on to low carbs Beenie, while you're fighting the carb addiction they lure you in but when you're following consistently then the cravings lessen. I can gaze at a stand of chocolate bars with complete indifference, ice cream is a bit more tempting and I suspect salt and vinegar crisps could lure me off the wagon. So when I indulge I have a small piece of 100% dark chocolate to satisfy the craving without tempting myself overmuch. When I had my blowout meal on Wednesday then it was with full intention of getting straight back on the wagon the next day and supergluing myself into my seat!

Cheese I'm breastfeeding an eight-month-old and I've been low-carving for just over a month. I followed the precautionary principle to avoid ketosis so I skipped the two week Bootcamp and went straight into Bootcamp Light. I suspect the WOE is slightly more forgiving for me because I'm breastfeeding about five times a day so my calorie requirements are pretty high. I found carb flu really tough, I felt as if I had just run a marathon when I woke up, so I would recommend having something by your bed for the morning. I would also be tempted to eat something last thing before bed but it really depends how often you're feeding. I was feeding three times between dinner and breakfast and I think that's why I was so drained. I also take a supplement (Pregnacare Breastfeeding) because there is a risk that your nutrition will be adversely affected since your body will prioritise milk production over your own needs.

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 19/07/2013 17:24

I am starting to get despondent. Sad I'm up a couple of pounds again despite sticking to the rules and drinking plenty of water. I'm not eating much dairy - a couple of tablespoons of yoghurt and cream each day and very little, if any cheese. Am really bloated today or it might be that my trousers are tight so I have a muffin top

Feeling fed up. Help.

StuntNun · 19/07/2013 19:38

On my way home from holiday Hmm but looking forward to getting back on track with the WOE.

B: Greek yogurt
S: Peperami
L: Subway beef salad with sweet onion dressing
D: barbecue chicken wings

CorrieDale · 19/07/2013 20:18

New veggie recruit here getting to the end of the fifth day. No carb flu yet! It had better not arrive in tone for my Taekwon do grading on Wednesday or I shall be cross.

B scrambled eggs and tomato
L hard boiled egg and two coffees with cream
D at the local beefeater for a school report celebration. Two quorn burgers with two side salads and mayo. Two large grilled mushrooms with more mayo
Disclaimer: This is not a typical day's eating!!!!

I am averaging 2 1/2 litres of water a day and I have to say that I don't know whether it's the water or the lack of sugar but my 46 yo skin has suddenly bloomed. I am not finding this woe easy. I am hungry a lot of the time and I really miss ice cream. But the weight is dropping off and my new look skin is very adequate compensation for the lack of pasta!

NewStartNewStory · 19/07/2013 20:28

Musttidy post your meals for the last few days. there is some very wise women here who will spot any problems. My initial thought is if you have cut the dairy have you increased the amount of fat you are getting from butter and other sources? And how long have you been doing this? Are you close to goal/possible body found happy?

loopyloou · 19/07/2013 20:33

I've come to 'fess up Wink

Just had 3 spoonfuls of bread and butter pudding with custard for dessert Shock

Otherwise had scrambled egg with bacon and green beans for breakfast, egg mayo with salad and 2 slices of Brie and 6 slices of salami for lunch and tikka chicken skewers with salad for dinner, 2 baby bells and 10 pistachio nuts as snack.

I had 1.5 litres of water at work, a big glass before and have had another since I came home and will have probably 2 more before bedtime.

OhCobblers · 19/07/2013 21:06

I've nicked someone else's idea and posting last 3 days of food to see if anyone could spare 2 mins to see where I'm going wrong?

Wed
B Oykos Greek yoghurt without the pear at the bottom (assumed it was low carb but had already binned packaging, then found out 16g carbs!!! Am assuming that's down to the pear and sugar?)
L scrambled egg with mushrooms
D went out and had deep fried whitebait with galic mayo, steak with green salad, 3/4 Bottle rose!!
Snacks lots of green olives stuffed with almonds.

Thurs
B yoghurt as above without the fruit.
L skipped as didn't have time but for 2 large chunks of cheddar.
D chicken stuffed with gruyere and wrapped in bacon with lots of mushrooms cooked in butter, steamed tender stem broccoli and green salad.
Snack lots of green and black olives

Today
B no time for breakfast except black coffee
L ham, olives, lettuce, cucumber, yoghurt
D ribs, chicken drumsticks in Piri piri marinade, salad, tiny bit of popcorn with butter
Loads of water, at least 2 litres with one to go!

So hit me with it, I'm doing it all wrong aren't I?!
Thank you

NooMyx · 19/07/2013 21:24

Hi all. I hope you don't mind me joining you a bit... I originally did Atkins for a year or two almost 10 years ago. I lost weight, but then gained it back when my eating disorder kicked in again. This time around I'm on my third year of doing LCHF (low carb, high fat) and in that time I've lost over 5 st (just counted that up and was surprised!) and feel so much better than I used to.

I'm quite new to MN but really glad there's a low carb section here. :)

LilyAmaryllis · 19/07/2013 22:23

NooMyx three years!

OhCobblers I'm no expert but I think you should find a different brand of yogurt. And I don't suppose you should be eating popcorn?
