Well done everyone who completed the Summer Bootcamp!

here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you want to continue adding to it

Obviously there are many of us who want to continue, either to lose more weight or just for general support to help with this WOE, so here is a brand new, shiny chat thread.

As for me, having slipped a lot a little when I was away, I'm firmly back on the wagon today.

And can I remind you, that if you haven't completed the survey we would be very grateful for your views/thoughts on how we can improve Bootcamp.

I know. I might go and change my dress, which is one of those long maxi dress affairs with a belt.

WillieWaggledagger · 18/07/2013 13:25

mouseface it's ok, it does take a little while to get your head around rules that seem to run counter to everything you've been told about 'healthy' eating. it took me a long time to be comfortable with full fat mayonnaise

and it sounds like you have a lot on your plate as it is

have a good read of everything, ask any and all questions here (no questions are stupid). don't worry about the spreadsheet either, if it's misbehaving just let me know and i will sort it out

prettybird · 18/07/2013 13:26

Bummer. I have bottles of diet ginger beer that are now sitting not being drunk!

The plus side is that once you have got rid of the diet stuff, you can stock up on tasty food rather than things that have been stuffed with sweetener and/or cornstarch and/or maize gum to make up for the lack of flavour and substance once the fat has been removed. Smile

Savoy cabbage microwaved braised in plenty of butter is one treat. Another one is thinly sliced leeks, slowly cooked in plenty of butter and then some cream bubbled through. Yummy. Smile

BerylStreep · 18/07/2013 13:26

Or go and put on some giant pants which go up to my armpits.

BIWI · 18/07/2013 13:36

prettybird - I do that with some leeks, and also add some chilli flakes and handful of grated cheese. Marvellous Grin

beryl - how rude!

OP posts:
prettybird · 18/07/2013 13:44

Might try that BIWI. Although I do like the leeks simply seasoned with sea salt and plenty of black pepper.

Asparagus roasted in the oven with some olive oil and then served with shavings of Parmesan is also nice.

Cauliflower florets roasted with olive (or coconut) oil with a generous sprinkling of cumin and coriander (and salt) is a great substitute for potatoes.

Mouseface · 18/07/2013 14:45

I've just gone through the kitchen, it's ALL diet or low/no fat so I am going to get rid, and start a fresh, just like you with your ginger beer Pretty - thank you for stopping a panic attack! Grin

Reading back, some of you have done so well :)

I'll be back later to add all my details on the spreadsheet.

I am so looking forward to full fat ANYTHING!!!! Grin

prettybird · 18/07/2013 15:00

Sssssshhhhhh, don't tell BIWI but because diet drinks are as bad as sugary drinks, it means that if you are really thirsty or hot, you may as well enjoy a slug of full-fat Irn Bru 'cos the diet stuff is foul and bad for you anyway Blush

NewStartNewStory · 18/07/2013 15:44

Shock prettybird Shock

Xenia · 18/07/2013 15:48

Yes it can be hard to explain to people. One my adult daughters was telling us hilariously about her conversations with a PA at work who is trying to lose weight and seemed amazed my daughter who is pretty slim uses full fat butter etc

The Carb Curb and the rather long programme I mentioned above Fathead give some interesting perspectives on it too.

The bottom line is that people have been sold a lie for 30 years that carb is good and fat is bad and in consequence more than half British people are now overweight.

prettybird · 18/07/2013 15:51

It's only the occasional slurp straight from the bottle - less than once a week. Blush

But I do it mindfully Wink

BIWI · 18/07/2013 17:14

Shock prettybird!

OP posts:
prettybird · 18/07/2013 17:24

You weren't supposed to hear that BIWI Grin

I have just watched dh and ds demolish a 2l bottle of Irn Bru watching the Tour and all I had to drink was a couple of glasses of water, a cup of tea and a cup of rooibos with a teaspoon of coconut oil. Smile

BIWI · 18/07/2013 17:26

I have eyes and ears everywhere, prettybird - you should know that by now Wink

Mouseface · 18/07/2013 17:48

Okay - I'm back to pester prettybird to ask for help on how I get my name and weight on the spreadsheet please?

Oh and just to add another downer into my sad day, the GP has added Tramadol into my meds, so not only am I on a tonne of morphine daily, I am back on Tramadol too. Another med that bungs me up.

So, where do I start? How can I get on the spreadsheet? Is there a secret handshake? Standing on one leg is out, I'd fall into someone! Grin

NewStartNewStory · 18/07/2013 18:27

carb creep has been bad today. but then i have drunk nearly 12 cups of coffee with milk in as i didn't sleep as all last night. Don't worry been no where near a car

B: scrambled eggs done in butter (5am) and meds
Snack: scrambled eggs done in butter (11am)
Lunch: salad with mayo and meds
tea: spag bol sauce with broccoli and some cheese
snack: couple of mini baby bels

Lots of water has been drunk too and have been over the minimum. I intend to drink some more from the nice bottle that has been chilling in the freezer for the last hour or so.

going to try to fix the sleep aspect but must be up until 8pm for a light snack and more meds.

Mouseface - don't worry we'll catch you if you wobble. Grin

StuntNun · 18/07/2013 18:43

It's a tough WOE to get your head round at first Mouse but in a couple of weeks you'll be frying mushrooms in butter, drenching cabbage in butter, making homemade salad dressing with olive oil, eating lovely crispy chicken skin and pork chop fat and laughing as the weight drops off. Keep the fat high and the water high and try not to eat too many berries or too much dairy (apart from butter). I have found a lot of things can be cooked just without the carbs. For example baked salmon (brush a piece of foil with olive oil, put salmon fillet in with butter, cumin, coriander and citrus zest, fold up the foil into a parcel so there's an air pocket above the salmon and bake at 180 for 30 minutes), roasted broccoli and fried mushrooms - add some new potatoes if you're feeding carb-eaters. Bingo - high fat low carb but quite normal food. Or melt some butter, mix in salt, pepper and dried rosemary and brush on to chicken legs and/or thighs before roasting at 180 for 30 minutes (legs) or 40 minutes (thighs). You can do crust bread or chips for carb-eaters and a couple of vegetables or salad with an oily dressing for everybody. Another thing I do is a stir fry with lots of vegetables, my kids get noodles and DH and I get an extra big portion of stir fry.

Today has been back on track. My belt indicates a bit of weight gain and my hunger levels are higher after yesterday's cheat meal so I have focused on eating right and getting plenty of water.
B: strawberries and cream
L: tiger prawn salad with oily dressing, chargrilled beef salad with spicy natural yoghurt dressing (can't wait to make this at home), cheese board and celery (donated the grapes to DS3)
D: low carb sausages and mushrooms fried in butter

I'm meeting a friend for a drink tonight. Would a gin and slimline tonic be suitable?

Mouseface · 18/07/2013 18:46

Thank you Stunt and NewStory :)

Fat and water I can do!! What a weird way of thinking though!

Mouseface - can't remember how I got onto the spreadsheet first time round (it was at the start of the January Boot Camp) - I might just have put my name and weight at the bottom of the list.

If not, I am sure that Willie , who looks after the spreadsheet, will add you. Smile

Just done a shopping at Lidl: the wee Greek yoghurts (with added cream) are indeed 5g carbs/100g. Strange. Just get the big tub - better value anyway! Grin

loopyloou · 18/07/2013 19:33

Hope everyone's ok and coping with the heat.

I've drunk a lot more today, had a big glass this morning then over 1.5 litres of water at work.

Feeling a bit bloated today. I did have a white wine spritzer yesterday as I was invited to the pub. Had lunch there, ham and cheese omelette with salad. For breakfast I had scrambled egg with courgettes fried in butter and for dinner sausages with salad. A snack of 2 spoons natural yoghurt.

Today I've had scrambled egg with bits of bacon and tomato, for lunch tuna mayo with cucumber and for dinner bolognese with cheese and lettuce with oily dressing. Snacks of 2 Babybel and 6 thin slices of salami.

I think I'm possibly having too much cheese. My scales still aren't working, but as mentioned I feel a bit bloated.

I'm struggling to come up with - cheap - ideas for evening meals that involve as little cooking as possible, as a) it's too hot and b) I'm at work all day, get home at 6.

loopyloou · 18/07/2013 19:40

Beryl, I can't believe your electrician asked you if you'd put on weight!! How rude!

BerylStreep · 18/07/2013 20:55

I know Loopy. I have known him for years & years, and I think he was certain I was pregnant, so that it where the 'have you been putting on weight ' comment came from.

When I said dead pan, "no" he then flustered and said 'are you pregnant?' (In front of my DC no less, who perked up with interest, just to complete my humiliation)

DH, bless him, told me that I don't look remotely pregnant, although I did go and put on my massive pants after the conversation with the electrician.

He was extremely apologetic afterwards, and I advised him in future no matter what he thinks, he should never suggest to a woman that she may be pregnant unless he actually physically sees the baby being born.

I wonder will he do a good price given that he has mortally offended me?

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 18/07/2013 21:23

Good article thanks BIWI.
Today for me
B: crustless egg and bacon pie, yoghurt with flax seed and nuts and coffee with cream.
L: leftover braised cabbage. An egg with mayo
D: chicken kebab no pitta and a small avacado.
S: square of choc, few pork scratchings.
Lots of water and an hours Zumba.

prettybird · 18/07/2013 21:24

Beryl - if it is any consolation but I'm sure it won't be I once asked someone who I hadn't seen for a number of years (visiting South Africa, friends of my family out there) when she was due BlushBlushBlush. I swear she looked at least 6 months pregnant. BlushBlushBlush

Nowadays, no matter if someone looks like she is about to pop, unless I hear it from the lady's mouth, I never ever comment about a pregnancy. BlushBlushBlushGrin

This was about 18 years ago BlushBlushBlush.

Did I mention I was BlushBlushBlush?
