StuntNun! its not just me then... waiting to slim back into my wedding ring...

BIWI · 28/06/2013 23:42

Evening all! Sorry for silence but I am on holiday now. Will start a new thread on Monday as per, but won't be around much for the next week.

Yep Lily my hand feels really weird with my rings on again for so long. I think the problem was that my fingers were swelling up and that's why it was so sore.

I had my Bordeaux and Roquefort, it was delish. Only two glasses of wine so hopefully it wasn't too naughty a treat.

prettybird · 29/06/2013 08:04

That must give you a real sense of achievement Stuntnun

I was really chuffed when I was able to finally get a ring off one of my fingers. It had been stuck there for over 3 years and there is is still an indented line 2 months later What's nice is I can now wear Mum's lovely rings on that finger - mixing and matching according to my outfit. Smile

NewStartNewStory · 29/06/2013 08:52

Prettybird ds is exactly the same soo frustrating, and there is only so many times you can ask people to have a word before you feel like you are mithering. Good luck.

Daisy might it be worth getting refferred. My GP said there was no point in sending me to our "catchment/local" hospital as this needed to be dealt with by the specialist team. Tbh they haven't done much for me but I have heard very very good stuff about the help they have given others so hopefully they might be able to give you some more help?

BerylStreep · 29/06/2013 09:04

Daisy - I'm not a medical bod, but my Mum was a psychologist, and said she always knew when her patients had started taking amyl, as they completely ballooned.

I had chronic shoulder pain for quite a few years, and the GP wanted to put me on amyl, but because of what Mum had told me, I said I didn't want to take it - the GP suggested nortryptoline (sp?) instead, apparently it doesn't have the same side effects.

It might be worth discussing with your GP.

CrabbyBigBottom · 29/06/2013 10:25

Morning all. Smile

Didn't dare weigh myself this morning after toastgate and mucho vino last night. Hmm

B - very thin slice of sourdough bread, toasted, with a mashed avocado on top.
L - tuna and cheese patties with salad leaves
D - ragu with courgette 'pappardelle'.

daisy I looked that up and yes it's a fairly heavy duty opiod, although oddly it's also used to treat opiate dependence and withdrawal. I can see why she wouldn't want you taking too many of them, but one a week seems silly. Are you already taking other opiates on a daily basis?

Lots to do today. Can't say I'm feeling enormously motivated. At least the weather's fine so I can usher our guests tomorrow through the grubby house and straight out into the garden, which is currently resembling a very colourful jungle. Grin

CiderwithBuda · 29/06/2013 11:06

Morning all.

I did brave the scales this morning. Gained half of the pound that had disappeared yesterday. That would be the wine! Oh well.

Had a yummy breakfast of mashed avocado with some bacon and a slice of corned beef. Odd but nice combo. Then DH dropped me at Tonacise and I walked back. He then offered me a bacon sandwich! I refused of course.

Lunch today will be salad and pâté
Diner will be BBQ and roast veg with feta

Black - the oil pulling sounds intriguing! I looked it up and the site I read recommended sunflower or sesame cold pressed oils though.

kiwigirl42 · 29/06/2013 11:22

fecking hell daisychicken thats medieval pain control. Demand a referral to the pain clinic at your local hospital or fibro clinic.

I was so lucky with my GP - I had a virus that put me into hospital for 2 wks, came home and 6 wks later started hurting all over - I was having to crawl up the stairs my knees were so bad. GP gave me morphine and tramadol just because I said how much pain I was in, even before diagnosis. I did know him well due to migraines but he was so accepting.

My pain feels like I have tooth abscesses in my bones. Even my toes bones.

I still take slow release morphine/ tramadol daily. I probably am dependent but not an addict as I don't take for kicks. Do nothing for me in that way (very unfortunately Grin)
I would honestly not be able to walk if I didn't take them. Every time I see the pain specialist he asks about me reducing the morphine. I reply 'you give me something to replace it and I'll stop it today' and, funnily enough, come out still on the morphine.

I know its not good to be on morphine etc long term but the alternative would be no quality of life at all so what can I do?

but I'm happy in my own head - I have a busy mind (read a lot), really supportive DH and DS and ragdoll cats Grin which keeps me going!

kiwigirl42 · 29/06/2013 11:24

ps where do you live daisychicken? I am in North Wiltshire and there is a good pain clinic here

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 29/06/2013 13:17

Hello all, and to those dealing with pain in various forms.

Yday's food
B 2 eggs scrambled in butter with a swoosh of double cream
L (at friends) Cullen skink soup (delish!), tiny square of her home made brown bread (so as not to offend her new bread making efforts) then meatloaf with salad.

D (out) Indian. I chose veg platter to start - it came with deep fried onion rings, I had one Blush but shared out the rest. Then I chose butter chicken with a side dish of sag paneer (spinach with fried Indian cheese) it was very tasty but from the menu description I expected the butter chicken to be "dryish" it actually came in quite a rich, creamy sauce so goodness knows what was in that. 2 glasses of white wine and 2 of sparkling water.

Even though I tried to make the best choices I could on a social day, I woke up today feeling tired and bloated. Didn't sleep well, probably the wine cos I really don't drink that often (maybe once every 2-3 weeks, I can easily go a month if there are no major social things).

Hope everyone has a good day and weekend.

Negroni · 29/06/2013 13:34

Hello and hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. I am doing a bit of work but so glad it is sunny and warm here (London).

So sorry to hear how many of you are in pain - Flowers to you all.

Minor excitement here! I went on special trip to never previously visited health food shop to source coconut oil. They had some which I stocked up on for the inaugural bulletproof coffee (now to be tomorrow as am already too caffeined up to drink any more coffee today). Then I noticed some almond butter (alongside peanut and cashew butter). I was thrilled to see it was only 6.5g carbs per 100g so just over 11g in the whole 170g jar! Bought it and was so excited that I was tempted to eat about half the jar. Restrained myself and celebrated this shopping trip with almond butter spread on 85% dark chocolate square for satisfying low-carb pudding at noon.

See - since starting this WOE, this is the sort of thing that makes my day pretends that these days I am never tempted to raid corner shop for quavers, cherry coke, snickers bars and other unmentionables

BillComptonstrousers · 29/06/2013 13:36

I'm really annoyed with myself HmmI've been absolutely militant about my food the last two weeks, not one slip up at all. The baby has been up all night and in my sleep addled state I've just eaten a tsp of crunchy peanut butter, thought to check the label and it had sugar in. How much of a fuck up is this?

MrsHerculePoirot · 29/06/2013 13:42

Bill don't worry, it is only tsp it will be fine, as it it hadn't happened! Well done for doing so well for two weeks!

BillComptonstrousers · 29/06/2013 13:51

Thank you Smile I was so cross with myself, this is the longest I've stuck to anything! Although the pull of red wine and crappy chocolate is strong today for some reason!

BlackAffronted · 29/06/2013 14:17

MrsHP, I do put the oil in while its like vaseline, but it quickly melts. Takes a bit of getting used to, but I actually enjy doing it now! Weirdo that I am haha. YOu can melt it first if youo prefer. YOu really will be amazed at how clean your teeth are though. I do it for 20 minutes, twice a day, and brush with water aftwards. Spit the oil in the bin or toilet, it is teeming with bacteria.

Cant decide what do make for tea tonight! Have spent the day at the beach and feel wiped out now.

BlackAffronted · 29/06/2013 14:20

If anyone is brave enough to try oil pulling, here is a link about it. I cant believe the difference in my skin & the rough cracked skin on my heels - how on earth does it help with that?? I dont know, but I love it :)

Negroni, sainsburys basics peanut butter is only 3.7g per 100g :) all the rest are 15g or more!!!

BlackAffronted · 29/06/2013 14:21

Bill, try not to worry & carry on as normal. Drink more water & I am sure you will be fine.

MrsHerculePoirot · 29/06/2013 14:21

Hmmm..... I like the idea of whitening teeth! Something on the BBQ? Easy with salad?

Don't be cross Bill, I imagine the amount of sugar in just 1 tsp is negligible (although I clearly can't spell it!!!). Don't give into the chocolate or wine, think how annoyed you were at 1 tsp of peanut butter and then times that my zillions!!! Water with a squirt of lemon/lime/some cucumber might do the trick, fizzy if you like it with bubbles!

Negroni · 29/06/2013 14:27

Bill - don't fret! I have just deliberately eaten small amount of v dark choc and almond butter and do not even consider it as breaking the WOE!

And now I discover that 6.5g almond butter isn't even that fab - thank you Black . Who needs the health food shop when Sainsbury basics is better?! At least I have the coconut oil for coffee and oil pulling if brave enough Wink

daisychicken · 29/06/2013 14:28

Kiwi - I live in Yate so not too far from you. I've only asked to change the tramadol as the side effects are horrendous but that said, they only ever took the edge off the worst pain. I know people can become addicted but I can take or leave them and I was trying only take when I'm really bad... just sometimes the bad days go on for several days and them I need them to keep me going.. I hate taking pills so would much rather just have when and as rather than be tied to them.

Beryl - I'm kind of worried about weight gain now... I did tell the doc that I was watching my weight as I was concerned that I didn't exercise enough (as I can't).. I'll keep my eye on my weight and ask for a change if any signs of increase...

Crabby - the only other medication I have is co-codomol 2 tabs 4 times a day and 5mg of amitriptyline. So I'm not exactly taking lots... and neither are opioid based i think.

Pain not quite as bad today so far but I'm stiff and can barely move. That's said, DH made breakfast and sorted kids out so I've only had to do a little washing. I'm resting now before I take my daily short stroll with the dog (something the GP said I need to try and keep up as much as I can).

B: DH did bacon, egg, tomato & mushrooms
L: small pot yog with berries - I then stupidly had some nuts - habit rather than hunger.. tomorrow will be better i hope!
D: will be chicken curry and veg

Tomorrow we have a BBQ at a friends so can't control carb count of meat but I'll do my best to eat low carb stuff.

NewStartNewStory · 29/06/2013 14:29

I have a random tea kinda question. Missing the tune cheese melt thing i used to do to go on the top of a baked potato. Reckon it would go with cauliflower and broccoli?

timidviper · 29/06/2013 14:42

Daisy I think you should ask for a referral to a specialist pain service. I disagree about amitriptyline, we have loads of patients on it at work and I have not heard complaints about weight gain in practice. If you read the side-effects to any drug it it looks horrific and weight gain due to increased appetite is less likely to happen if you are aware of your food intake, rather than eating mindlessly. GP is unlikely to precribe Nortriptyline AFAIK as it is far more expensive for little documented benefit. My TMJ specialist gave me a private prescription for it, GP said he would continue it privately but not on NHS.

Our Sainsburys had run out of Basics Peanut Butter yesterday, it must be catching on!

CiderwithBuda · 29/06/2013 16:04

Those of you with pain issues - have any of you tried acupuncture? I haven't had to use for pain issues but used in the past for hay fever and severe pmt. Found it good both times.

I have just been shopping and decided as I am in holiday mode to throw caution to the winds and treat myself to......... Greek yoghurt and strawberries and cream. Looking forward to it after dinner.

BlackAffronted · 29/06/2013 18:03

Newstart, sounds nice! Post a recipe if its as tasty as it sounds :)

timid, our Sainsburys keeps selling out too! and I can only get there once in a blue moon :( I stocked up on 4 jars last time there was some though.

cider, my pudding is raspberries & cream!

Just had a lovely dinner, I made Greek pork burgers, tzatziki, Greek salad with feta & a couscous dish for the others. Was lovely! Also feels good to know I fed the children a 100% homemade dinner that was healthy for them.
