Right chaps, while BIWI is drinking prosecco in sunny Italy away being busy and important, I'm your supply teacher for the next couple of days. BIWI has given me temporary responsibility for the Big Stick, so no messing about at the back there!

Well done on getting to week five, it's not easy and despite the fab support on here you've done this yourself, so remember how far you've come.

Please record your weight on the spreadsheet and marvel at your progress!

Temptations will come along, especially over bank holidays and half term treats, but remember that you're doing this for yourself, so be kind to yourself by not giving in to the temptation from things that do you harm and risk derailing you, as every time you look after yourself in this way it get easier. If you have a wobble, post on here - we'll remind you of all the tasty things you can have instead and why.

Have a lovely week!

Am I too late to add this week's weight ? I can't seem to enter it
Have been putting it off until I had been back non track for a few more days - 1lb off Grin

kiwigirl42 · 30/05/2013 13:27

well done everyone who is sticking with it!

I actually went out for a meal last night with in laws - first time in 6 yrs I've made it without a migraine!
We went to the Greyhound races and it was good fun. I managed fine diet wise but did have a Gaelic coffee (coffee, whiskey, whipped cream) afterwards which I really enjoyed.

Have just had steak, fried aubergine and broccoli for lunch - sick of aubergine now! Seem to be addicted to broccoli though.

I bought myself some heated rollers (want to look the dogs at friend wedding mid-June) and I love them. I've got just past shoulder length dead straight hair and they made it lovely and full.
I trotted out with a face full of slap feeling great.

I've got a bottle of setting lotion to use next time as most of the curls had fallen out by time I got home last night (my hair is very resistant to curling - even perms (in the 1980's!) used to fall out)

LilyAmaryllis · 30/05/2013 14:12

I just went for lunch at someone's house, carrot and coriander soup and some cheese from the cheese board. Said no thankyou to the bread and DIDN'T EXPLAIN. (as mumsnet has taught me that no is a complete sentence.) I know that lunch situation is way easier than what you are about to face Sammisat but I still feel pleased with myself!

ruprekt ooh lucky you with the Tassimo! I really wanted one of those!! I need to keep mentioning to DH that I am a much nicer person with caffeine it would be an ideal birthday present.

Well done lily small battles win the war!

Those eggs in clouds look yummy. I am just having egg in purgatory for lunch! To keep the theme going.

FurryDogMother · 30/05/2013 14:57

BIWI I'm so glad to hear you're doing IF - was keeping my mouth shut about it in case anyone thought I was being silly, but I've started the 5:2 way of eating in addition to the low carbing - today is my 3rd fast day (I do Mondays and Thursdays). I think we low carbers get a bit of an advantage because of our generally reduced appetite, 'cos I'm finding it rather easy. Had 2 home made burgers with lettuce leaves and 1 tomato earlier, and that should be it for the day apart from a load of water. I won't find out whether this is working until I go back to Dad's, but it feels like it is :D

decaffwithcream · 30/05/2013 14:57

Sorry Sammisatt, what on earth is a "tub of fage" ??

I would bring some cheese to snack on too btw.

colette · 30/05/2013 15:30

Blackaffronted - that 7 minute workout looks really good. Think I wil try it , not sure about how many reps I can do or if the chair won't fall over !

BigStickBIWI · 30/05/2013 16:00

Furry - I had to back away from the 5:2 threads because so many of them got so sick of me talking about low carbing and how it would really help them Blush

That, plus the obsession with calorie counting, which I have vowed I will never do again.

sammisatt · 30/05/2013 16:35

Tub of fage is full fat fage Greek yoghurt.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 30/05/2013 16:38

Willie/BIWI - could you add me back on please - I have been weighing myself but not converting it and adding it to the spreadsheet

kiwigirl42 · 30/05/2013 17:37

I've been managing 2 'fast' days a week quite easily without even trying since going low carb.
I lost about half a stone in Feb doing alternate day fasting but found it was getting harder some days. Was just SO hungry late evening before I went to sleep, no doubt because of the 500kcals of sugar I'd ingested on the dot of 3pm!

ecuse · 30/05/2013 17:41

Hello all. Have been away for 3 weeks - holiday in Spain then moving house - during which I have been a bit of a carbyfucker. But DH and I are back on plan now and have been almost looking forward to it! Weighed in when back from holiday and had STS (miracle) but haven't weighed in last fortnight as scales are in a BOX somewhere. House is in total disarray, we still don't even have an oven but have discovered two takeaway staples:

  • kebab shop - chicken/lamb shish with no bread but a big pile of salad and lots of chilli and garlic sauce
  • chinese - mushroom and/or pork foo yung with green beens in garlic sauce and bok choi stirfried with ginger

Since starting LCing I have become obsessed with green beans cooked in butter. Amazing. And, of course that braised cabbage recipe.

I must know what eggs in clouds are - I have clearly missed a trick.

nappyaddict · 30/05/2013 17:47

Do people find nut flours go stale quickly? Cook's thesaurus suggests they should be kept in the fridge.

They say you can substitute ground nuts (also called nut meal) for nut flours but ground nuts/nut meal will produce a courser texture.

bulletwithbutterflywings · 30/05/2013 17:48

I have been a right sugary twat today. Blush
Went to a world buffet at lunch time (having eaten nothing all day and been to the gym - ow my glutes) and went a bit pudding crazy :( massive blood sugar crash afterwards, I really felt quite unwell!
I think I am a bit frustrated about hovering around the same weight for so long and I need to be a bit more hardcore. I'm going to try removing dairy from my diet and stop eating nuts.

BlackAffronted · 30/05/2013 17:54

Colette, Im a big old girl. and teh chair didnt topple over when I did it Grin I also didnt do very many reps, I just tried my hardest. Let me know how you get on!

5:2 fasting just didnt work for me, even when LCing. I got obsessed with food Blush and it brought back some of my food issues that LC had eliminated. Good luck though, it does some to work really well for some people, my SIL has lost a stone doing it.

QueenofDreams · 30/05/2013 18:16

ecuse eggs in clouds: separate the egg, beat the white till stiff, mix in a little chopped spring onion and chopped fried chorizo. Pop the egg white mixture on a baking sheet, make a well in it and put the yolk in. Bung in the oven for 6-7 minutes

Just c&p from my previous post about them

I had chicken and chorizo kebabs for lunch with a salad on the side. No dressing on the salad as I'm all out of olive oil.

Dinner will probably be chicken again I think. It's one that comes with a caramelised chilli sauce though Confused I might have to just avoid the sauce methinks.

timidviper · 30/05/2013 18:46

Hi Black! That workout looks worth a try, I have downloaded it free from Google Play onto my phone and will have a go sometime. Thanks for that.

IF didn't work for me as I have a tendency to binge when I get hungry so the fast days were counter-productive. Having said that, I tried it before low-carbing so I wouldn't rule out trying it again at some point if I needed to.

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 30/05/2013 19:10

Really enjoyed my food today:

B 2 eggs scrambled, made with butter and double cream
L big salad with cucumber, feta and oil plus egg in purgatory
D smallish steak with cream and mustard sauce, salad, and a little bit of butternut squash/sweet potato mix (yes I know too carby really for bootcamp but was delish)

Stuffed.

Plus, was reading the June Issue of Top Sante magazine and their big health piece was about giving up on the "calories in/out" theory and eating "smarter" quoting Zoe harcombe and Gary Taubes, re sugar/insulin. Not full on approval of LC-ing but def dismissing "diet" foods. We will get there with the message!!

BlackAffronted · 30/05/2013 19:50

:) timid, id wondered where you were hiding! Im going to do that workout 3 times a week, it really is over so quickly! I was out of breath, but felt fab. Please post how you find it.

My kids are all demanding egg clouds, so looks like Im cooking lots at the weekend :)

BlackAffronted · 30/05/2013 19:51

Menu for today -

B - Egg clouds, crispy bacon & buttered msuhrooms
L - Low carb sausages, mushrooms, red pepper oven roasted in coconut oil & paprika
D - garlic butter chicken & asparagus

BigStickBIWI · 30/05/2013 19:57

My IF consists of not eating breakfast if I'm not hungry. If I am hungry, then I eat.

But the whole 5:2 thing I really didn't enjoy. I remember, when I was calorie counting years ago, sitting with a plate of boiled celery for my dinner, because that was all that I had left in my calorie allowance for the day. I am never, ever, ever going down that track again.

And for Bootcampers, I would really only advocate IF once you are well into low carbing and you know that you are ketogenically-adapted. Which means that you have completed a Bootcamp at the very least.

Yama · 30/05/2013 20:00

Oh, will be doing those egg clouds this weekend. Thanks for the recipe.

I've only gone and eaten too much again today. All good low carb/high fat food but too much nonetheless.

B - scrambled eggs with parma hama and butter
S - Lidl yoghurt and milled flaxseeds
L - mega salad with burger and chicken thigh
D - two lovely lamb chops with cauli rice

ecuse · 30/05/2013 20:17

That looks like a perfectly reasonable amount of food to me, Yama. But then, I am a glutton.
