Week 4 - Pre-Christmas '24 Low Carb Bootcamp: almost halfway through!

Morning all.

Here's the spreadsheet

Some really good looking losses so far, which is brilliant. It also looks like the 'curse of week 3' hasn't affected everybody, which is very pleasing. Let's hope the same is true of week 4!

I'm going to try a veggie recipe this evening, which was one featured in the Guardian's Feast food magazine a couple of weeks ago, for a paneer curry. It does use cashews in it - and they are very carby, but as there's only 25g in a meal to serve 4 people I think that's OK. I love paneer, but have only really ever had it in a spinach dish, so I'm looking forward to it. (There's also a teaspoon of sugar, but I'll see what it tastes like without it before I decide if it's really necessary!)

What's everyone else cooking this week? Anything new/different?

I've broken the stone barrier! Grin

Weighing in at 12st 12.75lb Smile That's a loss so far this BootCamp of 8.25lb Halo

Will need to stay really focussed for the next 6 weeks but I might just manage to get under 12 stone after all Shock

My first NSV target has been achieved: that the zip on my jeans the only ones I can wear at the moment Blush can now do up and stay up Grin There was a period late summer (probably when I was above 13.5st but staying off the scales Blush) when I was even having to undo the top button and remember to wear long tops Blush

whinsome · 11/11/2024 08:14

Thanks for the new thread, BIWI! Looking forward to seeing how everyone has done.

I'm 5.5lb down overall, 2 lb from this week, which I'm really happy with. My tummy is feeling slimmer and energy levels are pretty consistent.

I've not got to the stage where I don't feel hungry - so not fully adapted yet - but I am recognising the 'want to munch on something' hunger versus actual 'I should probably eat something soon' hunger. And neither of those compare to the animal that is carb craving hunger!! Glad to leave him behind!

Am loving the look of that low carb sushi, and this weekend might be the weekend I make those orange and cardamon chocolate pots 😋 but then again not sure I could trust myself around those quite yet!! Will defo try over Christmas though.

Congrats everyone for getting this far! Off to get some water down!

DrBlackbird · 11/11/2024 08:45

Okay scales finally fixed and first weight taken in weeks. I was apprehensive because I’ve not been strict enough but at least I’m down, which is better than plateauing. So back on the boot camp wagon and will keep on. I really want to get below to the next number.

Fairnair · 11/11/2024 08:47

Good morning everyone, hope you are all doing well. Have had a loss, a small one just over half a pound 0.7, which is better than the stay the same as last week.

Will keep at it, although the scale is moving down very slowly I definitely look slimmer face, waist, hips etc. have reduced. Did not measure myself before the start, but generally my leggings feel better, & stomach looks flatter in my dresses.

Determined not to go mad at Christmas, I don’t usually go overboard, but the little extra bits a mince pie here and there, crisps etc. lead to a typical weight gain of 4lb or so, not this year!!

ReconstructionSite · 11/11/2024 10:11

Morning all!

2lb down this week, so 5.5lb in total after two weeks. Scales showed an additional 0.5lb off yesterday, but I was out and about and didn't drink much water, so I'm hoping that will slip off easily as I enter the dreaded Week 3!

My husband has lost 12lbs in the same fortnight 😱 He's delighted (as am I, he's done brilliantly) but hoping he won't get disillusioned if it doesn't carry on at that rate.

Rayna37 · 11/11/2024 10:24

Disappointed only with a small loss as I thought I'd had a good weekend and I saw a bigger loss on Friday morning. I also managed 3 swims and a 3 mile run last week, which is my aim each week but often things get in the way. No wine since my single glass on Thursday too!

However I've felt bit a bit out of sorts, and I'm slightly constipated whereas I'm regular and frequent normally and I've had plenty of veg and water, hopefully that will change.

I clearly need to be VERY strict.

Crazyquilter · 11/11/2024 10:26

This is slow-going! I'm in my 70s and something happens to your metabolism the older you get. I wondered if I had an underactive thyroid and had it checked out, but it's not that. GP wasn't really interested, despite BMI in the Obese category (I'm only 5' so it really shows). Until three months ago I was running twice a week, but then I got a back injury so have had to stop. I have been pretty good with the low carbing and doing my best to bump up the protein and water. I have to admit to having a G & T and a glass of red wine though!
Sorry about the whingeing - I really am in it for the longterm.

Rayna37 · 11/11/2024 10:28

I've got a busy week which could be hard to navigate...

Dinner out on Weds, a set menu I've not seen but usually a classic 3 course. I'm driving though and there's always lots if water on the table. Saturday night I have a birthday party, not sure what the catering is, then a big roast out on Sunday.

Nightvax · 11/11/2024 13:04

I noticed some great losses on the spreadsheet, well done!
I am 1lb short of a new stone bracket so that’s good motivation for me to KOKO

Think we’ll have a bolognese tonight, with green beans or courgetti for me and the rest can have pasta.

ive only tried paneer once but really liked it, let us know how your dish comes out Biwi

Nightvax · 11/11/2024 13:04

This is your reminder to DRINK SOME WATER

Butthistimesticktoit · 11/11/2024 13:37

I….
….have been very good.
Have had a tummy bug.
Which has killed my appetite further.
….and have PUT ON THREE POUNDS.

Life truly has no justice.

Roasted two chickens yesterday so will have some of that sauteed with roast sprouts and cauliflower.

Bah humbug.

prettybird · 11/11/2024 13:50

Actually, re-weighing myself after doing my exercises and going to the loo a few times Wink, I can adjust my reported weight down to 12st 12lb Smile

That's 9lb since the start of this Boot Camp Grin

Bex5490 · 11/11/2024 14:22

Bad week which involved eating my 6 month old’s baby food (a new low) so I’m up 0.4…

Going back to strict boot camp rules this week to get back some discipline.

KOKO!

So happy for you that you went down a stone bracket!!

LCagain · 11/11/2024 14:57

Well done everyone!

Another paneer fan and have this one on my list for the week

www.ocado.com/webshop/recipe/paneer-butter-curry/272863?srsltid=AfmBOoosw-xw9yz3OLnRUHjgZhvYxCrmURDzh6TTOVKy7TAc_VLuSJvP

I made the paneer and spinach on the recipe thread last week and it was tasty as well

Floralnomad · 11/11/2024 15:14

Well my loss this week is a bit pathetic but on top of last weekends disaster I’ve now done my back in again , can barely walk so exercise is out . Just carry on and see what happens .

islandtiger · 11/11/2024 17:16

Lovely to see everyone's posts. Well done all, for losses and just for KOKO. I'm delighted with my 2.5 loss this week after staying really strict. I could definitely drink more water though. I think we're going to keep strict for another week, I'm motivated because I want to get into the velvet jeans I bought ( deliberately sized down) this time last year when I first did bootcamp. And didn't succeed 😳. It's a big birthday for DH in December so that's my target date. I'll be tempted by a glass of wine on Thursday as we are cooking for six of us, but will just try and stay moderate. Lunch today was leftover roast chicken with truffle mayo ( Aldi- yummy), lettuce, avocado and tomato. Prawn stir fry tonight with keto noodles and loads of veg. This bootcamp we've eaten loads more cauliflower, it's becoming a staple.

UnOeufIsEnough · 11/11/2024 18:05

Wee gain for me this week but nothing too disastrous (0.4lb). Hoping to see the back of it next week. KOKO!

Rayna37 · 11/11/2024 22:35

Office day:
Swim
B- two eggs (I boiled half a dozen yesterday ready for breakfasts, ate late morning)
L- salad, leftover roast chicken, mayo not the homemade it was dreadful followed by yogurt with a few blueberries
D- cheeseburger pie (from the freezer) with broccoli.
LOADS of water
Finally managed a decent poo

islandtiger · 12/11/2024 07:42

@floralnomad so sorry to hear about your back. If you are able to negotiate a bath, I I can recommend Epsom salts from the chemist. Two handfuls in a bath are surprisingly soothing for aches and pains. And lovely on the skin, not drying at all. Hope you feel better soon.

BIWI · 12/11/2024 09:47

@Floralnomad well, a) it's still a loss and b) don't forget about the warning for weeks 3 & 4 and c) don't forget that you've lost 5lbs already this Bootcamp!

Very sorry to hear about your back.

@Butthistimesticktoit sorry to hear that you've been poorly too Sad. Don't worry about the gain at this point - after illness things are bound to be a bit awry.

Didn't make the paneer curry in the end last night as I spent a fair bit of time making my Christmas cake and then, when I started thinking about cooking, realised I didn't have enough paneer. I'd been shopping earlier and forgotten to buy it. Doh!

But I like the sound of that recipe @LCagain so might try that as well, next time.

Anyway, I cobbled together some pasta for DH/DC, with a tomato, bacon, green pepper and chilli sauce, which I had over a bed of thinly sliced white cabbage, that I fried in butter. With a load of cheese sprinkled on the top. Not quite what I'd been anticipating all day but it hit the spot.

Glad the scales are going in the right direction @prettybird, and well done to you too @islandtiger - keeping an item of clothes, and a particular occasion in mind, is a great motivator.

@Bex5490 what happened to you in the week to make it bad? Anything we can help with?

@Crazyquilter

I have been pretty good with the low carbing and doing my best to bump up the protein and water. I have to admit to having a G & T and a glass of red wine though!

There's probably a connection between this, and this:

This is slow-going!

With Bootcamp, especially in the first two weeks, 'pretty good' really isn't going to be enough. You really do need to drink the water, and swerve the alcohol - especially if the scales aren't moving (enough).

@Nightvax thank you for the reminder!

It really is important to drink the water!

And don't forget the fat ...

It's a long game, putting it on and taking it off.
Garden day for me, mental reset and drinking water!

Thesoundofmusic23 · 12/11/2024 10:22

Sorry to be checking in late. Struggling with full compliance because of the time of year - just too much going on but mostly staying on track. 2.6lbs this week which I’m pleased with give everything. Good luck koko this week ☺️

LCagain · 12/11/2024 11:23

The Ocado paneer recipe was yummy! Substituted kale and mushrooms for spinach and peas (actually think the spinach would have been better). Next time I might try the Keto naan again too.

Floralnomad · 12/11/2024 11:46

@islandtiger I’ve been using the Lush Epsom salt cube bomb , it’s the blue and yellow one , my son keeps me well supplied with Lush bombs and knows that one is my favourite . I also have a new improved mattress and am feeling a lot better today , hope it lasts .
