Week 3 - Back-to-School Bootcamp - Introducing Bootcamp Light

BIWI · 25/09/2023 09:19

Morning campers!

Here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

... where I can see that already we have 7 Bootcampers who have lost half a stone or more! That's really amazing. Flowers

It's not a competition though Smile so don't be downhearted if you haven't lost as much, or if your rate of loss is slower. We all start from different places and rates of loss vary from one to another.

If you've been reading my posts (you have, haven't you?!), you'll know that week 3 (and sometimes 4, even 5) can see a sharp slow down in the rate of loss. This is because by now, you've lost initial water weight and you've used up the glycogen - made from glucose, aka carbs - which is stored in your liver. And you're burning fat. The transition from carb-burning to fat-burning should now be well on the way and this is why it's now particularly important that we keep our focus on low carb foods, and resist the temptation to cheat.

It's easy to become complacent, but remember we're trying to create new habits here, and the general consensus seems to be that it takes 66 days to create a new habit. Today is day 15, so we have a way to go!

If you're struggling, post here. Ask for help. It's so much better when you know other people are going through the same thing.

But ...

  • There's a lot of processed meat in there
  • There's not much protein
  • You're still snacking between meals
  • You aren't drinking all the water
  • You could be eating too much dairy

... as I said earlier, it's about tweaking for you. As well as being patient!

@Rogue1001MNer are you already within a healthy bmi range. I am far from being an expert but I found that once I got a bit within the healthy range I had to watch portion sizes and even calories.

Also had you had any water before you weighed? I try to start my day with 1-1.5 litres of water and it adds at least 3lbs.

Edited

Last week I'd JUST got down to overweight from obese bmi (very obese summer 2022, but I'd already lost quite a bit before I discovered LCBC last March).

And I weigh first thing, after toilet, before eating or drinking anything.

@BIWI , I'm listening.
I will tweak.
I'll find not snacking at all very, very tough.
But will try

Rogue1001MNer · 01/10/2023 11:29

Last week was particularly bad for processed meat. Its usually better than that.
I'll watch that

Rogue1001MNer · 01/10/2023 11:30

Thank you both for taking the time to comment

BIWI · 01/10/2023 12:23

Why will you find snacking hard to give up? By now you shouldn't be hungry between meals.

Accountability check in after taking a step off the wagon yesterday. Far too much wine and pizza for tea but it was a one off so I'll take whatever comes my way one the scales tomorrow. Could easily have carried on today but have given myself a stern talking to and am back in the zone, albeit with a bit of a headache.

Brunch: bacon on LC roll
d: roast beef, veggies in butter

Tubelight · 01/10/2023 14:58

Lost 2lbs this week so 10 lbs in total. But all the weight is coming off my top and the bottom is still the same 😀
My job is office base and I only walk 20 minutes a day maximum. Any suggestions what I can do.

FinallyHere · 01/10/2023 17:18

Sorry about the round up post. On hols, just caught up with the thread from Thursday when we landed.

@MyShinyThing

Doesn't sound like sloping back in to me. Always good to hear from you.

@RooRooCooChoo

One fish finger.

Glad to see that BIWI has explained the process. I only know that the first item is by far the easier to resist.

I've been low carbing for years now and find one of the strongest reasons to resist anything is simply that it will take even more more effort to resist the second than it did the first. Mostly it's just not worth that extra effort.

My perfect meal just happened to be bootcamp compliant, lamb chops and a Greek salad inspired salad topped with feta which includes raw cabbage/spinach/celeriac plus any other veg I fancy.

Apple cider vinegar and olive oil, finished with a squeeze of lemon.

@venusandmars fabulous looking fish.

I've been known to feign a slightly upset stomach which clears up by lunch time to avoid breakfast in company. What business is it of anyone else's anyway 😀

NSV of long term low carbing, going on the same group holiday two years running. Last year I was permanently trying to catch up with everyone and struggling to do lots of the exercises and activities. Everyone very supportive but still it's not that fun.

I had been low carbing for a good long time and inspired by @ilovecherries kept to boot camp light.

This year, it's all changed. I seem to have boundless energy, listen out for all the ' if you want more challenge' and feel really very good indeed.

One thing that has stayed the same is sticking to bootcamp lite.

Thank you @BIWI Et Al. xx

I'm finding this thread the motivation I need
You guys are all amazing and it's so interesting to read about everyone's weeks. I have had a good week food/water wise BUT I've been feeling dreadful. full on headaches and just lethargic with muscles aching and tingling. Is it possible to have these side effects on week 3???? or maybe I am just run down with the beginnings of flu.

ChimneyPot · 01/10/2023 19:21

I made the okra recipe @agnesmartin gave me a few pages back and it was really good.
So good DH took half of it.
it made a lovely side to go with creamy Indian chicken dish from the takeaway and cauliflower rice.

Oh, wow @ChimneyPot

That looks delicious

Porridgeislife · 01/10/2023 20:06

I had some lovely meals today!

B - baked eggs with smoked mackerel, sour cream and spinach
L - grilled chicken thigh salad (rocket, tomato, cucumber, avocado, spring onion, a little grated carrot, EVOO and lemon juice)
S - FFGY with some cacao powder

D - leftover beef ragu with steamed broccoli, courgette, cauliflower and grated cheddar

Tomorrow is my day off with my toddler so we’re having moussaka for dinner

Frumpyunicorn · 01/10/2023 21:00

I have had a good few days. Yesterday we went to a friends who laid on a huge buffet abd all I could eat was cheese, salad, chorizo and olives. I did end up having diet coke but I stuck to the food despite all the temptation. I was hungry by the time we left and had some chicken drumsticks in the car on the way home. Today I was out all day so planned ahead and had a fry up, bsbybel for lunch then sausages and celeriac and leek mash for dinner. I echo what finally here says about one fish finger not being a problem as its hard to stop, that is why I find it much easier to not have any, the buffet being a good example as I can guarantee that if I had had just one bite of something I would have ended up with a plateful.

Gnomegnomegnome · 01/10/2023 21:04

I went away and have been unwell since we returned on Friday and really wanted to binge on carb’s especially as I’ve been unable to go to the gym (or move much at all).

That looks amazing! Thanks for letting us know how it went. Going to have to try that myself one day soon.

Shadypaws23 · 01/10/2023 21:56

Made a lovely egg salad thing today (disclaimer I am not on BC but veer towards low carb so I sometimes post if I try good stuff!)

Boiled eggs chopped up with diced cucumber, a couple of cherry tomatoes, shallots, celery, basically any low carb salad veg. Mixed it all with salt, pepper, mayo and a tiny bit of Dijon mustard and had it wrapped in little gem lettuce

Works with tuna too or even shredded chicken and good for using stuff up and keeps well in the fridge for a quick lunch

Gnomegnomegnome · 02/10/2023 06:13

A little loss of .5kg today.

RooRooCooChoo · 02/10/2023 06:35

Lost just over 1lb, which I'm really pleased with, as I drank a bit more than I was hoping last week. Feeling well and enthused, although today is the first day of a daunting new job. Plus side, my suit fits beautifully; down side, got to work out how to fit LC into my new routine. That is the challenge for this week!

PowerTulle · 02/10/2023 08:12

Static weight for me. Maybe 0.5lb off if I’m being precise. I know my weight fluctuates though.

I’ve enjoyed adding wine, choc etc to my treats this week so I’m happy not to have gained Lbs.

Why will you find snacking hard to give up? By now you shouldn't be hungry between meals.

Because I'm an ex smoker with an oral fixation?
Because I'm an emotional eater?
Because I find it incredibly hard to sit at my desk and NOT eat?
Because across every thread you've consistently said "if you're hungry, eat"?
Because people listing their food for the day on these threads list snacks each day and you've never raised it as an issue?
Because over the past year I've gone from snacking on junk to snacking on healthier but still carby things, to (since this WOE) snacking on BC--compliant things

But thanks for making me feel worse thani already did

BIWI · 02/10/2023 09:31
Shock

The key words were ‘by now’

I was trying to help you unpick things, not make you feel bad or worse

Sorry that my pep talk about being more positive, and trying to work out how you could tweak things have resulted in this response.

Someone called? 😀. Yes, somewhat surprised to realise its now been 7.5 years 😳. The original 6 stone off has been joined this year by a 7th - I did go back to full bootcamp to achieve that - but I’m back onto lite again now. I tend not even to ‘see’ high carb food now - the open box of Quality Street can just sit on the side and I don’t even notice it. But for me it was easy to make one decision - a yes/no choice. Otherwise it would have been a constant mental negotiation about how much was ok, rapidly leading to an attack of the fuck-its and an ‘oh well, I’ve blown it now, I’ll start again on Monday’. I know myself too well, moderation isn’t an option for me really. If it had been I’d have never got myself in the mess initially. Moderation for me was about a need for constant willpower and being on high alert. This approach is much easier.
