Week 3 - Back-to-School Bootcamp - Introducing Bootcamp Light

Morning campers!

Here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

... where I can see that already we have 7 Bootcampers who have lost half a stone or more! That's really amazing. Flowers

It's not a competition though Smile so don't be downhearted if you haven't lost as much, or if your rate of loss is slower. We all start from different places and rates of loss vary from one to another.

If you've been reading my posts (you have, haven't you?!), you'll know that week 3 (and sometimes 4, even 5) can see a sharp slow down in the rate of loss. This is because by now, you've lost initial water weight and you've used up the glycogen - made from glucose, aka carbs - which is stored in your liver. And you're burning fat. The transition from carb-burning to fat-burning should now be well on the way and this is why it's now particularly important that we keep our focus on low carb foods, and resist the temptation to cheat.

It's easy to become complacent, but remember we're trying to create new habits here, and the general consensus seems to be that it takes 66 days to create a new habit. Today is day 15, so we have a way to go!

If you're struggling, post here. Ask for help. It's so much better when you know other people are going through the same thing.

@AllTheBlackCoffee could it be that your period is due soon? Mine sends me looking for crisps every month without fail. Salt and vinegar pork crunch is a good alternative!

LadyBird1973 · 25/09/2023 18:34

Checking in with today's food.
Breakfast was hame and rocket sandwich on low carb bread, with cherry tomatoes. Got hungry so topped up with a couple of slices of ham and a big bowl of baby leaf/rocket salad, basil olive oil and a few cherry tomatoes. Dinner was fish and home made tzatziki. Snack was a lot of coffee with keto powder and 2 squares of 85% dark chocolate. Fluid intake has been good.

adviceatthislatestage · 25/09/2023 18:39

2lb off for me this week, which I am happy with considering I had a blip mid week.

Well done to everyone who lost and KOKo to anyone who didn't.

Today was
B- cup of tea
L- cheese salad
D- pork loin steaks, with courgettes, broccoli and peppers

S-FFGY

2l water consumed. Doing my best to get to 3l

Sunshine1606 · 25/09/2023 18:54

Also just checking in and excited to move in to bootcamp light. Enjoying reading how everyone else has been doing and learning more about this woe. I have found that I'm craving crisps less and less (and I'm a total potato fiend). I'm really enjoying this WOE and genuinely looking forward to delicious meals not padded out by carbs. I went on an epic walk yesterday across the seven sisters(racking up 32k steps!) and ate out at a Thai. Opted for a curry and the lady seemed stressed that I was refusing rice to go with it 🤣 it was delicious though and had it with a salad ❤️

RooRooCooChoo · 26/09/2023 07:18

Good morning!

Stuck to the plan yesterday and outdid myself with aubergine parmigiana, so thanks to everyone who reminded me of that gem!

Going out tonight so am glad I won't feel too guilty having a glass or 2 of wine, but apart from that it's standard boot camp for me.

B: FFGY and cream
L: tuna Mayo with lettuce, cucumber and peppers
D: maybe out, but if not I will scramble some eggs with cheese, bacon and tomatoes

Have a good day everyone!

Okaygoahead · 26/09/2023 08:02

Yesterday another long driving day, trying to navigate the food choices in roadside places. Pleased therefore to report that McDonalds in the Netherlands (maybe elsewhere now too?) offers bunless burgers as a regular option, no need to make a special request. They just give it to you in a cardboard container with a fork. A relief not to have to resort to their rather sad salads!

FinallyHere · 26/09/2023 08:06

Good morning lovely bootcampers.

Could work out why this thread was so difficult to find. Seems I hadn't posted, so here I am.

Welcome many to IF. Like many others who have been bootcamping, I love how this way of eating makes me feel. Especially the part about eating only in response.

A really interesting exercise I've found is to just look out for what hunger really means. Let's face it, I have plenty of fat reserves so my body is not in any danger of starvation.

Hunger when I was eating lots of carbs was a screaming voice in my ear telling me I was going to die if I didn't eat. Shakes, hangry, raging.

Hunger when eating low carb is a very different thing indeed for me. Would be interested to read how it is for others who have been low carving for a while and adapted to burning fat.

ChimneyPot · 26/09/2023 08:36

I was down 3.5 lbs at weigh in yesterday, so 6lbs over the 2 weeks.
I am really pleased with this and it is motivating me to stick with BC rather than BC lite for the moment.

This morning I had a nespresso rich chocolate coffee with cream and it tasted decadent.
I usually find their flavoured coffee disappointing because it smells great like pumpkin or gingerbread of whatever and just tastes like coffee but this one seemed different.
I only have one coffee per day so I will have to wait until tomorrow for my next one.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 26/09/2023 08:38

Morning everyone, I somehow resisted the siren call of the carbs yesterday and was rewarded with another lb off over night. I didn't eat enough proper meals and zero veg though so I'm going to rectify that today.

B: Greek yog and cream
L: tuna and avocado salad, might make some mayo
D: pizza chicken, buttery veg

AllTheBlackCoffee · 26/09/2023 08:49

Forgot to say that while I was deep in the throes of my carb cravings yesterday I ordered some of the Srsly LC bread - a loaf, buns and wraps. I may have gone overboard but the thought of a cheese and ham toastie was too much to bear. Just hoping it's good!

TheOnlyMrsW · 26/09/2023 09:08

@FinallyHere I was all set to restart IF yesterday but felt hungry in the afternoon, the carby hunger that you've described - had some rollitos and cabbage leftover from Sunday's roast reheated with butter as a snack. IF in the past for me has tended to be something circumstantial rather than planned, not getting round to eating until lunchtime on workdays etc so wondering if having it in the plan destabilised myself somehow 🤦🤦🤦.
Omelette again this morning with parmesan instead of feta but otherwise the same as yesterday, think I might add some spice next time to liven it up!!!!!!

Gnomegnomegnome · 26/09/2023 09:28

@VeryGoodVeryNice that looks amazing

BIWI · 26/09/2023 10:14

@AllTheBlackCoffee I'm a big fan of the Srsly LC breads - especially the wraps. My only reservation is that I don't think the bread toasts very well. But a toastie, fried (either in a frying pan or using butter/oil in a sandwich toaster), might be OK.

I'm going to try Cauliflower pizza steaks from the Fast800 Keto recipe book this week.

Good to be self-catering again, dinner yesterday was salmon baked with olive oil lemon and herbs; cooled and served with lively salad.

Food today:
B - Greek yogurt, boiled egg with butter
L - baked camembert with salad
D - chicken and chorizo fried with many veg

@AllTheBlackCoffee the low carb bread can go mouldy quickly, so put it in the freezer and eat it gradually.

1lb loss this week, not brilliant but better than a kick up the arse, as they say.

Cauliflower pizza for tea, well actually for lunch too as I didn’t have any.

This looks delicious! Is it reasonably easy to make cauliflower pizza? I'm going to have to give it a go!!

VeryGoodVeryNice · 26/09/2023 10:36

@nappiesandcontracts and @Gnomegnomegnome it is really delicious! I actually prefer it to normal pizza. It’s really filling too. It’s very easy to make, the recipe is on page 1 of the vegetarian LC recipes thread. I adjusted the recipe and instead of making my own cauliflower rice I just use one bag of the frozen stuff from the supermarket which seems to be the perfect amount. Takes about 20 mins altogether (I have a large airfryer that I can cook it in so that saves a bit of time). Normally I have slightly more exciting toppings but turns out I was out of peppers and onions yesterday. This is the base before adding sauce and toppings.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 26/09/2023 10:37

(I do microwave the bag of rice first, obvs!)

BIWI · 26/09/2023 10:38

I never had much success with the cauliflower pizza - the bases were always a bit too soggy. Perhaps I should have another go.

nappiesandcontracts · 26/09/2023 10:39

Great thanks @VeryGoodVeryNice - will look up the recipe and give it a whirl...!

cardboardbox24 · 26/09/2023 10:44

Chocolate! At some point in the future when I reintroduce dark chocolate, is it worth paying more for this https://pureheavenly.com/collections/dark-chocolate/products/dark-72

or just stick with my standard lindt bar? It's 22g carbs per 85g bar but only .2g sugars. Lindt 85% has 22g carbs per 100g but 15g sugars.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 26/09/2023 10:44

@BIWI the only time mine turned out too soggy was when I didn’t have any bags of pre grated mozzarella for the base so grated a ball of mozzarella, that one ended up as a bit of a heap, even though I squeezed the mozzarella ball with kitchen towel as much as I could before grating it, there was still too much moisture in it.

Also this pizza sauce is really tasty, doesn’t have any sugar and is 7.9g carbs per 100g.

Gnomegnomegnome · 26/09/2023 13:15

@VeryGoodVeryNice thank you! That’s dinner sorted for tonight!

VeryGoodVeryNice · 26/09/2023 14:06

Also on the topic of tasty things, I just bought this at my local shop and OMG it is off the chart delicious, I’m not normally a fan of dark chocolate but this is amazing 🤩. £3.99 so not cheap but worth every penny.

RooRooCooChoo · 26/09/2023 15:09

Quick check in with the knowledgeable ones please. I'm checking the menu of the restaurant I'm going to tonight. They serve mussels, which I would be very happy to eat even without chips . However, Google seems undecided on whether or not these fall within a low carb diet. Can anyone advise? I'm planning to have a couple of glasses of wine, but otherwise have kept to the rules. There are other options if mussels are best avoided. Thank you!

BIWI · 26/09/2023 15:13

According to Sainsbury's website, mussel meat is 3.6g carbs per 100g, so I think you're fine!
