Week 3 - Back-to-School Bootcamp - Introducing Bootcamp Light

Morning campers!

Here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

... where I can see that already we have 7 Bootcampers who have lost half a stone or more! That's really amazing. Flowers

It's not a competition though Smile so don't be downhearted if you haven't lost as much, or if your rate of loss is slower. We all start from different places and rates of loss vary from one to another.

If you've been reading my posts (you have, haven't you?!), you'll know that week 3 (and sometimes 4, even 5) can see a sharp slow down in the rate of loss. This is because by now, you've lost initial water weight and you've used up the glycogen - made from glucose, aka carbs - which is stored in your liver. And you're burning fat. The transition from carb-burning to fat-burning should now be well on the way and this is why it's now particularly important that we keep our focus on low carb foods, and resist the temptation to cheat.

It's easy to become complacent, but remember we're trying to create new habits here, and the general consensus seems to be that it takes 66 days to create a new habit. Today is day 15, so we have a way to go!

If you're struggling, post here. Ask for help. It's so much better when you know other people are going through the same thing.

I’ve just had the nicest lunch, tho I take note of BIWI’s previous comment as I too am lacking in veg today.

I made a loaf of flax bread (nothing like bread really but perfectly nice) and topped in with homemade cheese savoury (mature cheddar, bit of chopped shallot, HM mayo, cayenne) - it was bloody lovely, really hit the spot.

Tomight we’re having sausages with swede, broccoli, mange tout and baby corn so I promise I’ll make up for no veg at lunch.

PowerTulle · 27/09/2023 14:15

Thanks BIWI yes you’re right. I need to get another portion in before dinner, which I tend to struggle to achieve.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 27/09/2023 14:27

Roasting cauli for some soup - to up today's veg here too.

So far so good. I feel thinner and clothes are looser.

(I haven't had indigestion recently either - no need for gaviscon at night.)

Rogue1001MNer · 27/09/2023 20:50

That sounds lovely @AllTheBlackCoffee
Do you have a recipe for the flax bread?

We had cauliflower base pizza tonight. Bloody lovely.
Need to watch the processed meat though

AllTheBlackCoffee · 27/09/2023 21:24

It's this one @Rogue1001MNer https://www.thelondoner.me/2014/03/mums-low-carb-bread.html I think it's on the recipe thread too. It's dead easy and serves a purpose, in this case delivering cheese and mayo to my gob Grin Also works well with smashed avocado or very thick butter and marmite if that's your thing.

Rogue1001MNer · 27/09/2023 21:38

Thank you 😊

Frumpyunicorn · 27/09/2023 21:59

Hi everyone just checking in. Had an OK day today, a few slices of cheese and a tomato for breakfast, the tuna patty recipe on the spreadsheet with salad and garlic mayo for lunch, and salmon with butter cabbage and salsa Verde for dinner. Tomorrow I need to buy lunch out for the first time so that will be interesting. I have been feeling quite sticky the past few days abd I am wondering if it is because I had a bit more processed meat so am going to try and reduce that.

dimples76 · 27/09/2023 22:25

Might have to try the flax bread and definitely going to try the cauliflower pizza.

Today I have had:

Lunch - Leftovers from yesterday , Thai red chicken curry including courgettes, broccoli, babycorn, peppers and green beans.
Dinner - Chilli (no kidney beans) on a bed of lettuce with cheese, sour cream and avocado

I think that I am a very sensory eater and I like crunchy food so I am really missing crisps and crackers. But overall I am feeling good that I can stick to this.

PowerTulle · 27/09/2023 22:26

I added a few celery sticks as an afternoon snack today so that upped my veg portions.

Going to try making some sort of creamy veg soup I think, as an alternative for lunch that isn’t salad.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 27/09/2023 22:35

Today I had:

Brunch: veggie sausages, eggs and tomatoes

Snacks: an apple, some dark chocolate, and 2 Babybels

D - cauliflower and spring onion bake with Tabasco sauce, with lots of salad

Also went to yoga 🧘‍♀️ and it was great, felt loads better for it afterwards. Found that I could add yoga as an exercise on my Fitbit and I burnt a surprising number of calories.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 27/09/2023 22:37

@Rogue1001MNer glad you liked the pizza 😊. I did see the other day that Ocado sell frozen cauliflower pizza bases, no idea what they’re like.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 27/09/2023 22:42

Oh and also tried on a long sleeved top that I bought well over a year ago and never wore as it was too tight on the arms and too clingy on the belly, and now it fits great 👍🏻. Also bought a lush dress from dancing leopard for a party next weekend, it has a belt which normally would look shit on me as it would just emphasise the overly generous midsection, but it looks amazing and I love it 😍. This shit actually works! Been doing running 3 times a week as well as yoga once a week and I feel so much fitter for it.

ChimneyPot · 27/09/2023 22:48

I made the IPD Moussaka from the first page of the meat recipe thread and it was a hit with DH and DS. My fussy eater twins have gone to university so I am enjoying cooking new recipes. (Obviously I miss them but every cloud..)

I may have liked the moussaka too much and eaten too much.

Today
Breakfast:FFGY and clotted cream
Lunch: Tuna mayo lettuce wrapd
Dinner: Brussel sprouts in butter and moussaka with lambs lettuce

Rogue1001MNer · 27/09/2023 23:26

Celery's nicely crunchy @dimples76

That's so nice about your clothes @VeryGoodVeryNice
I'm also wearing things I haven't worn for years.
Including a jumper that was a Christmas present 2 or 3 years ago which I've never worn (still had the label on it) because it was too tight over my belly, but isn't any more

VeryGoodVeryNice · 27/09/2023 23:30

@Rogue1001MNer it’s so satisfying isn’t it! Looking forward to an autumn/winter of wearing jumper dresses and the like and not keeping my coat wrapped round me because I’m self conscious about my belly. And being able to wear a bikini in Florida in December 😁

RooRooCooChoo · 28/09/2023 06:36

Adding to the theme of clothes fitting, I am much more comfortable in my new work clothes than I was when I bought them. It's magic!

Yesterday went well, except my dinner came heavily drizzled with balsamic. I hadn't noticed it on the menu 🙄. Food was

B: FFGY w cream
L: corned beef, goats cheese, Mayo, lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes
D: carpaccio of brasaola with rocket, tomato and Parmesan.
S: pork crackling and 3 rollitos

LadyBird1973 · 28/09/2023 07:33

Good morning all. Just checking in with yesterday's food.
B - 2 boiled eggs on low carb toast.
L - a keto bar from Morrisons which is like a less sweet snickers. About 9g of carb, so good if you are out and about and fancying a treat.
D - chicken curry. I put in lots of cauliflower rice and spinach and peppers because I'm feeling guilty about not having as many vegetables as we are supposed to have.

I have also started adding bovine collagen to a couple of cups of coffee per day. Got it from the willpowders site, where I also get MCT powder. In losing weight, I'm starting to see the slight development of a wrinkle, so hoping to pad it back out again Grin

In NSV terms, I bought a beautiful skirt from a charity shop a couple of months ago, which I could get on but was slightly too tight. It now goes on much more easily and is wearable now.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 28/09/2023 09:07

I've recently started with collagen @LadyBird1973 Early days but hopeful it'll make some kind of a difference.

Feeling utterly exhausted today, despite sleeping quite well (for me at least) recently. I could go back to bed for the day if I didn't have bastard work - waaaahhhhh!!! Not sure if it might be thyroid related. Mine's underactive so when I diet it can make symptoms worse.

I've also seemingly put on two lb overnight, despite eating nothing that's not LC. Sometimes I hate my body!!!!

There's not much of what I've been eating this past fortnight that I can post on a Boot camp thread dread to think what the damage had been Blush but this starter from Haute Cabriere in Franschhoek is perfect HFLC fare Grin

Slow cooked pork belly with crispy skin accompanied by a brilliant view!

BIWI · 28/09/2023 09:18

Morning all!

Just on my second cup of coffee, when I came across this, pertinent, piece from the Fast800 which has me reconsidering!

I read that too and remembered that my gran always insisted that coffee was for mid morning and certainly after breakfast. She had tea first thing and tea with breakfast.
How did she know😁

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 28/09/2023 14:25

Amazing view @prettybird !

Thanks for this @AllTheBlackCoffee . I do like that site and must re-explore it.

Sorry you are feeling so bone tired. This happened to me but I was able to look back and realise I probably hadn't eaten enough the day before. I was busy and this way of eating reduces hunger prompts.

I want to get thinner but also to feel good- so have upped portions.
