Summer 23 Boot Camp, Week 4: we (might) enter the doldrums

prettybird · 10/07/2023 08:08

Here we are in Week 4 already - nearly half way through Shock. By now, most of us should be seeing some good results - but not necessarily all of us to the same extent as our bodies are all different. Wink

Remember that many of us experience a few weeks of doldrums over Week 3, especially Week 4 and even possibly week 5, where the scales will resolutely refuse to move - or even move upwards slightly Hmm. This is normal as your body adjusts to this WoE, so keep the faith , follow the rules , KOKO and the scales will to move again. In the meantime, concentrate on the NSVs, like better sleep, better skin, more energy and/or looser clothes. Halo

Remember that this is a marathon not a sprint, and try not to get too fixated on the short term. All healthy weight loss regimes will eventually settle down to a rate of 1-2lb/week but at least on this WoE, you can enjoy healthy, tasty food and not be hungry all the time. Grin Concentrate on what you can eat, not what you can't Flowers

I’ll get our lovely Spreadsheet Monitor @FinallyHere to link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness Flowers

Here's to another good week - onward and downward Smile

hello and good morning lovely boot campers, and thanks to @prettybird for opening up the shutters for week 4 (and for running the show, natch.)

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness SofF ready for the results of your weigh ins, alongside lots of other resources to support us on this journey.

No pressure to track anything, though lots of boot campers find it it works well for them, to weigh weekly or even daily. Monthly for me at the moment, though the fact that I fit into everything in these summery days is one thing that keeps me eating low carb high fat.

Major compass for me is 'how will i feel after I've eaten this' If I will feel satisfied and good in myself, then I have at it. If eating it will just leave me wanting more (and more and more) then resisting the first bite makes things a whole lot easier for me.

Happy Monday lovely boot campers & have a great week

Checking in, with a slight 0.5lb gain. Could be due to lots of thing so just going to KOKO and trust that everything will sort itself out.

Husband on lates this week so just cooking for myself, and the kids this week.
i see lots of eggs in my menu this week 😄

LadyBird1973 · 10/07/2023 08:35

Good morning all. Thank you for the new thread.
I'm 2.5lb down this week, which is lovely. I've been trying to keep really busy so I don't graze all the time.
Hope everyone's weigh ins go well today.

OldandTired66 · 10/07/2023 08:44

She did it! Smashed Crawled through the 200lb barrier with a respectable 1.7lb loss. Next infinitesimal goal, under 90kg (-0.2kg) 😂. Breast screening today but at least there's significantly less to slap between two plates than there was last time... Egg for breakfast, lunch out with friends which will be caesar salad, I think. And salmon fillet for dinner with buttery broccoli and savoy cabbage for tea. KOKO everyone.

SummerSazz · 10/07/2023 08:46

After a day at Henley, then all inclusive for 5 nights and a 50th birthday party I'm +5. Sounds pretty bad but I know it will shift off again. Food has all been pretty good but did overindulge on the alcohol.

However back on it since yesterday morning and all good so far. Will be extra strict this week to reverse the holiday/celebrations and then hopefully back on the long term downward trend Smile

Well done to the losers 👏. And don't forget the 💦 💦

moderndilemma · 10/07/2023 09:09

@OldandTired66 well done! all these varying goals are just the thing to keep us motivated.

I was out for a walk yesterday and for some reason just 'felt' thinner. After staying the same or weighing slightly more for most of the week, this morning I'm down by just over a pound. Nice for a Monday weigh in Smile

And my watch is fitting me better.

Brunch today will be avocado and tomato salad
D - halloumi and spinach curry

moderndilemma · 10/07/2023 09:39

Challenging week coming up: lunch out with a friend tomorrow, staying with other friends on Wednesday night, dgc birthday tea on Friday. But I'm determined to make good choices whenever I can.

venusandmars · 10/07/2023 09:40

Bloody name change not working!

Baystard · 10/07/2023 09:45

Morning all!

I've put on 1.5lb this week but I'm sure it's hormones and water/inflammation as I'm in perimenopause and my hands are very painful right now. I'm not too bothered though, I know it's temporary and will KOKO with light BC.

Well done everyone for losing and/or persevering!

Eanair23 · 10/07/2023 09:55

168lbfor me - or 12 st exactly.
That is a 3lb loss after last weeks 1lb gain so I am delighted with that. Today is a cooking day for me. I have chicken thighs in the slow cooker and I've bought the makings of a bolognaise.
I'm liking all the tips. I was out for dinner last week and DH commented how awkward it was to be restricting whilst we were on holidays. DC are off school. I said, no, that all I had to do without was the mash potato, chips & dessert. It really is not a hardship. Restaurant portions of sticky toffee pudding are pretty much 1,000cals with icecream. It's like a stone in your stomach at 8pm. 😶No thnks.

My tip is ,don't let a bad meal make a bad day. Or a bad day make a bad week. Oh yes, and PLAN. Have LCHF food in the cupboards. And of course WATER!!

MilsonandJim · 10/07/2023 10:27

I'm doing something wrong on the spreadsheet! I finally weighed myself Saturday and today and I'm down 7lb since the beginning. So I tried to put my new weight on the spreadsheet for today but it thinks that's what I lost!

Lucienandjean · 10/07/2023 11:47

I had a 3lb loss this week after a gain last week. I feel I'm back on track now, eating the right food and not having too many slip ups. It's all definitely easier during Bootcamp - we get to encourage each other and see ideas for meals.

FinallyHere · 10/07/2023 11:54

@MilsonandJim

Sorry lovely that the SofF isn't behaving itself. Would you like to let me know what to add post here or in a DM and let me have a go?

cheesenotoast · 10/07/2023 12:12

I lost 2 lb , which I’m really pleased with
This week will be a bit of a challenge as we are playing Freezer Dive and using what ever we find
I’ll be topping up with lots of fresh veg !
I think it’s pork chops tonight , so there will definitely be a creamy mushroom sauce in the side

One of my lucky finds ( when my local Tesco was short of fresh veg ) is frozen cauliflower florets , there very nice roasted , a little soft if boiled , I think £1.20 for a bag which is a good 4 servings ( and no filling the food compost bag with all the bits I don’t want )

prettybird · 10/07/2023 13:10

I had a bit of a blip at the weekend Blush no particular reason that I can put my finger on Confused, compounded by a lack of water Hmm, so I'm going to drink lots of water and weigh-in on Wednesday Wink

And yes, I am self-flagellating with the Big Stick Grin

@OldandTired66 Congrats on smashing through that barrier. I'm lolling at "at least there's significantly less to slap between two plates than there was last time" Grin
Fortunately losing weight doesn't seem to affect my tiddly tiny breasts. In fact, they look a tiny bit bigger because they are stationed in a slightly smaller mass of torso. That's an NSV I guess.

Another possible NSV: I have taken my blood pressure a couple of times in the last week or so and it is STRIKINGLY down on the high readings that caused my GP to recommend that I consider medication. My guess is that proper hydration has helped me a lot, since Dr Google tells me that chronic dehydration can raise blood pressure.

It could also be becaus I have cut down on coffee a lot. That, too, is a result of bootcamp, since I wanted to cut cream AND because bootcamp has helped me to be a more mindful consumer - to consume food/coffee when my body is truly ready for it and not just as an endless thumbsucking oral gratification.

Don't know how long all this will last, but the blood pressure improvement so far has been phenomenally noteworthy - this morning it was 120 over something whereas my average has recently been something like 140-145 over something.

Sorry lovely that the SofF isn't behaving itself. Would you like to let me know what to add post here or in a DM and let me have a go?

Thank you. I'm sure it's me being a bit clueless but basically I'm down 7lb since the beginning but didn't include my weight last week or the week before. Does that make sense?

ItsAsIfWeWereThere · 10/07/2023 17:54

I’m 1lb down this week - which brings me into the healthy weight zone with a BMI of 24.8. Totally delighted with this - although I’ve got to be careful now not to self sabotage.

FinallyHere · 10/07/2023 19:40

@MilsonandJim I've had a go at the SofF let me know how you feel about the first solution that suggested itself to me.

Seems as if I should gather some FAQs about how it works and things to try. Thanks, shall get onto that right away. It may still take some time :-)

Gratters @ItsAsIfWeWereThere Hope it continues well for you.

Do you feel good in yourself, following this way of eating?

HappiDaze · 10/07/2023 21:20

My boobs have shrunk even more which I'm delighted about. I know this as I wore the dress today that was slightly too tight across my boobs when I recently bought it so the button and material gaped open.

The dress is now definitely looser.

However despite walking over 15,000 steps 11.1 km today with DD I ate the leftovers of what she had for dinner which was very carb heavy. I was going to cook a stir fry and had all the ingredients out. Took a bite of leftovers and scoffed the lot. All I'd eaten before that was a bit of FFGY and lots of water and a cup of tea.

Eanair23 · 10/07/2023 22:34

I forgot I had an appointment today. I rushed out amd my chicken in the slow cooker was ruined. Then I had extra children for a playdate. So in the end I had food that was LCHF, just a bit boring.🙄Thankfully I was too busy to eat carbs. Being down this morning was very motivating to KOKO!! Best wishes fellow campers

EversoDetermined · 10/07/2023 23:10

Just checking in, no loss this week for me but that might be doldrums or it might be a few lapses. Last week was quite tricky with a couple of catered events and trips away from home running late into the evening, but I did my Sunday session of breakfast/lunch prep for Mon-Wed and have stuck to the WOE pretty well today.

Breakfast - egg mayo with cress and bacon bits
Lunch - tuna mayo salad plus FFGY with a few blueberries and a small amount of stewed rhubarb (v.little added sugar). Got to use an allotment glut.
Snack - roasted seed mix
Dinner - bits of cheese, ham, celery, cucumber, pate.
Drinks - herbal tea and water

Andi2020 · 10/07/2023 23:40

Well done on all the losses and to those who broke into a new weight bracket.
I think not having cream in my yogurt this week helped shift 1lb so anyone sticking and not losing make sure to put down your food so @prettybird can advise you.
B Greek yogurt blue berries tiny but vanilla pint water Ginger tea
L Salad Spinach cheese tomato chicken water
D spicy beef broccoli water
Snack coffee 2 sq dark chocolate.

MilsonandJim · 10/07/2023 23:45

That's perfect thanks @FinallyHere
