Welcome everyone! We have over 160 people signed up this time, so things are going to move quickly.

Here's the link to The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness which has been carefully and lovingly curated by the very lovely @FinallyHere

There are a few bits of admin that I need to post before we get going. The first of which is the usual disclaimer:

I am not a medic, a scientist, a dietician or a nutritionist. Everything that I post here is based on my reading and my own experiences of low carbing gained over the last 20 years. You follow the guidance here at your own risk - although I very much hope that there are no risks!

Very importantly, though, if you are on any kind of long-term medication, please talk to your GP/nurse about low carbing. This is especially important if you're on drugs for hypertension, cholesterol and/or diabetes, as a low carb diet should have a positive impact on all of those conditions, which would mean that your dosage may need to be decreased, if not removed altogether.

The second is about etiquette:

Please, please, please read all the posts on the thread before you make your own post. These threads work so much better when we're all here interacting with each other, as that means we can offer help and support when it's needed. Don't just jump on the thread to plop down your meals for the day, your weight that day and then just fuck off. That doesn't help anyone.

More than anything else, it's incredibly irritating when someone posts a question which has already been answered early in the thread. I, and lots of other Bootcampers, spend a considerable amount of time responding to people's questions and concerns, and it's pretty insulting when it's obvious that these haven't been read.

(Oh, and it's very obvious if you haven't read the thread, so take that as a warning Wink)

Just wonder if the grumpiness is a lack of carbs? Is it a thing? I'm also doing dry January so I've had no booze for 11 days but finding that easy.

DryWhiteagainW · 11/01/2023 20:50

Your DH sounds like me!!!!! I spécialisé in the martyr huffing

DryWhiteagainW · 11/01/2023 20:51

😂😂 Omg it's annoying

I do love him but I've just had enough this evening. Just wouldn't mind him sitting down watching telly with me. He's gone upstairs to sulk now

TheMagicSword · 11/01/2023 20:56

Evening all!

I found today a bit more difficult, just because I was busy. I think I need to get myself a lunchbox and make up lunch in advance for busy days, even when I’m in and out of the house. However I did manage to go to Tesco without buying a snack for the way home, and walked past numerous snack vending machines (in a hospital and leisure centre, ironies there) without giving in!

What I really need to do is train myself to drink black coffee. I can happily have four or even six coffees in a day, normally flat whites. At home I’ve switched to espresso with a dash of cream and trying to limit that to three.

BonnieBairn · 11/01/2023 21:22

I just want to eat tonight :( I'm not hungry but just want to eat.

ThistlyPerf · 11/01/2023 21:32

Happy birthday @LadyBiker - hope you’ve had a great day.

Nearly halfway through week 1 and doing okay. I’m also doing dry January so the hardest thing for me is no wine!

B: coffee with unsweetened almond or pea milk
L: Greek yog with cream if in work, scrambled egg with cream and spinach if wfh.
D: chicken Gruyère bake or chilli with cauli rice and avocado

Snack: salted celery sticks with single portion of cheddar.

MuthaHubbard · 11/01/2023 21:34

Checking in after another good day.
B - HBE
L - homemade meatballs with grated mozzarella
D - cheated a little with a subway salad (chicken tikka) but was ravenous after dentists (which was delayed by nearly an hour) 😳
Managed to polish off all my water.

Am pleased I still feel motivated and on track, lately when trying to diet in whatever format, after a couple of days my interest/intent starts to drop off but hasn't.

Early night as spin class in the morning.
Really enjoying the different meals being mentioned - giving me loads of ideas (and longer shopping list)

Hello

I'm a lurker and not on the spreadsheet. I've done bootcamp before (different guise) and continued lite LCing for pretty much 2 years now with weight pretty consistent fluctuating 4lbs either side of my happy target. I think I lost a total of 2.5stone in total.

I've got a little bit lax in recent months, with too many days / weekends off lc, and then there's been Christmas. End result 10lb gain from my high tide weight and almost a stone from my happy place.

So thought I'd participate in this BC to recalibrate and focus. I'm a daily weigher (should have known something was off when I stopped the daily weighing some months back!) and haven't lost anything yet, but know it can take a while to show, and I've always been slow and steady with an average of 1.5lbs even on BC.

Todays menu was
B: celery and pate
L: celery, pate and home made salsa (lots of olive oil)
D: I was out and so did the best I could - ordered a burger with extra cheese and bacon and ate it minus the bun and fries.
evening snack - some buffalo mozzarella (so much creamier than other types!) and the rest of my salsa.

My trips to the loo suggest I have more than smashed my water target 😉

Hoping to continued being focused over next few weeks and to see it rewarded on the scales.

Loving reading everyone's stories and inspiring menus.

Mercedesbenz2022 · 11/01/2023 21:53

Hoping for a loss as this is the first evening I haven’t been desperate to get out of tight jeans and into my pj bottoms

( brassiere may or may not , normally be Un clipped too )

StuntNun · 11/01/2023 22:11

Onions aren't banned @DryWhiteagainW but they're on the carby side at around 10% carbs so it's okay to use onion as a base for a curry or bolognese but consider the quantity, e.g. one onion in a bolognese that serves four is fine. If you want to cut carbs further then echalion shallots are a good alternative.

DryWhiteagainW · 11/01/2023 22:23

Oh thanks stuntnun that makes me feel better

BSky · 11/01/2023 22:34

B: Coffee & water
L: mozzarella salad with oil
D: chilli con carne with broccoli, salad, sour cream & cheese
Lots of water. Finding drinking hot water & lemon easier to up my water intake than cold water.

Lots of recipe inspirations - thank you.

ZiggZagg · 11/01/2023 22:49

Long day for me today!

But can feel my energy getting slightly better Grin

L was tuna mayo salad (managed to turn down some cupcakes several times!)

D was scrambled eggs with mushrooms.

I've used some nearly squishy avocados to make guacamole for lunch tomorrow, probably with fried eggs, then I've got a lovely homemade soup for dinner with chicken fajita salad. I just love this woe, I get to eat so much tasty food and don't really feel I'm missing out!

I've drank 4 litres of water today and one black coffee. Aiming to be in bed for midnight (usually much earlier but DD is at a concert in Manchester and has kindly informed me I have to wait up as she doesn't have her keyConfused)

prettybird · 11/01/2023 22:52

@StuntNun - I've wondered if pulverised "Golden Crunch" (puffed pork scratchings - available in Sainsbury's I prefer them to the Curator's ones ) would work as a crunchy coating for things like Scotch eggs.

Andi2020 · 11/01/2023 22:59

@Greatly is your dd a 1st year.
My dd goes back Sunday to Liverpool
Some lovely food ideas from you all today
Well done to the daily weigher on your losses.
I normally have between 1-3lb off per week so it all adds up at the end and find it easier to maintain nowI have reached my target started this woe in April 21 have done a few bootcamps to help keep me motivated.

Lalalalalaaaa · 12/01/2023 03:23

@BonnieBairn I hear you. I can't suggest anything to help but I'm the same. It's not that I'm hungry, it's just snacking is a habit I need to get out of.

Day 4! (Which means tomorrow is Friday, thankfully - it feels like a long week).

Bit disorganized today so I don't really know what I'm having. Will work it out.

Question on tomatoes - are they ok freely or do we need to limit?

Brassbumblebee · 12/01/2023 07:06

Good morning everyone!

So day 4. That feels like its come around fast. I'm feeling much brighter this morning and way WAY less bloated than I did at the start of the week, even my face looks less puffy.

B: 10% greek yogurt
L: buttery eggs, mushrooms and green beans
D: taco bowl which will consist of, lettuce, hm salsa, avocado, seasoned beef mince, fresh coriander, sour cream and cheese.
D: two black coffees and 3ltrs of water

AllTheBlackCoffee · 12/01/2023 07:18

Morning all, good to see everyone is doing well so far, lots of lovely meal ideas too.

I've got a bit of a challenge today as it's the first day this year that DH is away. We WFH together and typically when he's away, those are the times I go off on a carby binge. I don't know why, whether I get bored, lonely or just think 'no one will know' but in the past it's been the downfall of many a diet. I feel determined for now, just hoping I don't get caught in a fuckit moment and ruin all my hard work.

But I do have a plan:
B: Greek yog and cream
L: cheese crusted omelette off the diet doctor site - if you've not tried these I highly recommend (tho you do need a good non stick pan or LOTS of butter). We call then inside out omelettes because the cheese is on the outside and we're a bunch of comedy geniuses in our house
D: left over chilli and cauli rice

Plus I have pork crunch and cheesies for if the carb monster calls!!

Savedmybacon · 12/01/2023 07:38

First post - and I know you'll all tell me to be patient - but I started on 3rd Jan and did more or less carnivore for a week - just meat, fish, eggs, butter with a little cheese towards the end. Did this once before and all my pains and inflammation melted away so wanted that to happen again - it did this time, but less dramatically. Weight fell off that week but loss has completely stalled since I added veg - leeks, shallots, mushrooms, peppers, courgette and more cheese/cream in sauces on Monday. I know I'm not drinking enough water but am I missing anything else?

mimosa1 · 12/01/2023 07:41

Ooh @AllTheBlackCoffee the inside omelette sounds amazing - please could you share how you make it?

I've got a chest infection and after a couple of weeks of feeling lousy, i've got some antibiotics so hopefully it will knock it on the head.

As a treat, I went to M&S Food yesterday and got some dry attractive looking veg - cavalo nero and rainbow Swiss chard - and realise I have no idea how to cook them / what to do with them. If anyone has a good idea, please let me know!

amigababy · 12/01/2023 07:50

I made the Cauliflower cheese last night (with cream and grated cheese). It didn't really turn out as I expected, it was all a bit watery, not sure where I went wrong. I still ate it though.

Backstreets · 12/01/2023 07:55

Already trailing off on the water fgs. Been working too much overtime, at least this WoE is stopping me from just falling back on late night takeaway - cooked cauliflower gratin when I came home late last night.

UnfinishedBusiness · 12/01/2023 07:56

Morning all, hope everyone has a good day. Really hope those antibiotics kick in for you quickly @mimosa1 .

B: coffee with double cream (sorry, not great at eating early).
L: leftover broccoli and Stilton soup
D: chicken, aubergine and courgette curry with a big green salad
Snacks: cheese and cucumber and/or egg Mayo.

For all the avocado lovers, have you tried mashing some blue cheese into your guacamole? It’s rather nice.

@Skiphopbump thanks for the info😊

@AllTheBlackCoffee that chase quiche sounds amazing, thanks.

@Savedmybacon I started very low carb originally for my arthritis and it really helped. Slipped off the wagon a little while ago and things got worse, so glad to be back on it now. Hope it helps you too. I wouldn’t worry too much about the weight yet, give it a bit more time. I tend to drop a bit and then hover around the same for a week or two, then drop a bit more.

UnfinishedBusiness · 12/01/2023 07:57

*Chase?? Cheese!
