Week 3 - Jan 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - Bootcamp Light or not?

BIWI · 30/01/2022 22:46

So now you have several choices:

  • move on to Bootcamp Light for the next 6 weeks, which means allowing nuts/seeds, fruit and alcohol all in moderation!
  • a hybrid, where you do Bootcamp during the week, but relax and follow Bootcamp Light at the weekend
  • stay on Bootcamp, if it's suiting you

Bear in mind that weeks 3 and 4 (and sometimes 5) are infamous for seeing little or no weight loss - indeed sometimes you may see a gain.

Whatever you decide, here's the spreadsheet for you to declare all!

I hope very much that you will see good results from the last two weeks (or the last 3 or 4 weeks, depending on when you started!)

And now this week's challenge!

Like me I'm betting you all have several cookbooks that you rarely use. Go and find one that you haven't used for ages and choose a recipe that is or could be low carb and post it here.

You may have to change some of the ingredients, but that's fine! Let's all look for something that inspires us to cook something new/different.

Here's to a successful week 3 Flowers

@venusandmars I don't thin that symbol is a proper emoji. I think it's something on an Android phone that doesn't work when posted on mn.

prettybird · 05/02/2022 14:28

I often use an egg. Adds to the protein too Smile

ShangPie · 05/02/2022 14:32

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal @StuntNun I haven’t done this at Wagamamas, but have been to plenty of Asian places that are happy to give lots of extra beansprouts that go soft and work as ‘noodles’. Might be worth a try? Can’t imagine they are too carby, beansprouts are basically tubes of water!

venusandmars · 05/02/2022 14:55

Breakfast? The cheese and almond muffins are great. On a slice of scheiderbrot protein bread with cheese and salami. But I also like soup - was converted to this on a holiday in Vietnam. We were staying with a family. One morning we got up early and the family shared their soup with us - our guide was horrified as he had brought an 'American' breakfast for us!

All Bar One do a lovely skinny dirty burger. Dirty because it has crispy pancetta and cheese, and skinny because they swap the bun and fries for avocado and salad.

got dgc coming for tea tonight so it will be a big tray of roast veg (pumpkin/squash, shallot, red pepper, kale and a few nuts). Some roast chick peas for them, and some fried chorizo added at the end. Then having strawberries and raspberries with cream (or oatly cream for dgc). And some jelly for them too.

Frenchpoodle · 05/02/2022 14:55

Afternoon all

Had burger bowls yesterday, 100% beef burgers from Ocado, were very good. Served with courgette fries, which were surprisingly delicious and meant I didn’t even glance sideways at my husbands chips.

venusandmars · 05/02/2022 14:58

Thanks @Batshittery I was worried that it was something important and that I was making a terrible faux pas.

Pleaseandthankyou · 05/02/2022 15:28

After reading all your posts I ventured to M&S this morning. Currently eating seed crackers loaded with blue cheese and smoked salmon. Fabulous treat while watching the rugby. @prettybird I was thinking of you when I saw the Duchess of Cambridge in a line out this week. Very elegant. I am pretty sure I wouldn’t look like that 😀.
Does anyone have ant tips for making celeriac chips in a air fryer?

prettybird · 05/02/2022 15:51

I'm nowhere near as slim elegant as she is @Pleaseandthankyou Grin

FinallyHere · 05/02/2022 16:27

Ooh, I'm very interested in anything about celeriac chips in a air fryer

Friday B IF
L leeks, spring onions and spinach all wilted in butter, with two 'seafood shells' from the Waitrose delivery. Quite delicious, few prawns, poached and smoked salmon and a dab of full fat creme fraiche

D DH cooked yesterday, chicken breast and mushrooms with the remains of the creamy sauce (hat tip BIWI) that I got the hang of earlier in the week. Kalettes & Brussel sprouts in the air fryer, more to my taste than DH who likes then v well done.

Pleaseandthankyou · 05/02/2022 17:13

@prettybird I think you are brilliant for playing at your age. I can say that because I am only 3 years younger than you. I just couldn’t get stuck in , in the mud. I am at my happiest in the stand with a hot port in my hand. I love going to Murrayfield. It’s always a brilliant weekend.

prettybird · 05/02/2022 17:25

@Pleaseandthankyou - in "real life" I am the most perjink of people (to use a good Scottish expression Wink) who doesn't even like getting her fingernails dirty when doing the gardening Shock. I was just commenting to dh this morning how I'm surprising myself by not being bothered by going to ground in the mud ShockGrinConfused

I'm enjoying our new walk-in shower to get clean afterwards Wink

BestIsWest · 05/02/2022 17:50

Hope Scotland do better than we did this afternoon…

Pleaseandthankyou · 05/02/2022 18:41

@BestIsWest some of us had a great afternoon 😀

SpottyBumPony · 05/02/2022 21:37

B Greek Yoghurt with cinnamon
L Antipasto
D failed chinese takeaway. I had satay chicken skewers which where nice but I scraped the sauce off as it was sweet. Ordered stir fry veg but it was in a weird slimy sauce and the veg was mushy. I ended up having a packet of cheesies instead.

Plus point - didn't have cake when DH, playdate friend and kids did.

prettybird · 05/02/2022 21:58

@BestIsWest - a bit nerve wracking but we got there Grin

BestIsWest · 05/02/2022 22:04

@prettybird and @Pleaseandthankyou well done and deserved. We were terrible! Lucky to come away with a few points.

prettybird · 05/02/2022 22:07

....not that I could watch much of it live (even though dh and ds were over at Murrayfield Confused) as I seem to be a jinx. I could only go through and watch the replays when I heard something good Wink for Scotland Grin had happened Grin

We've now had a nice supper of roast chicken I had plenty of skin and buttery leeks (dh and ds had roast potatoes) and then ice cream with Maltesers (dh and ds) and raspberries (me I only had a small amount of ice cream ) and have sat down to watch the game on iPlayer (so now I can watch it Grin)

Baystard · 06/02/2022 08:14

@SpottyBumPony I love the idea of your DH having a playdate friend Grin , and well done for swerving the cake!

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 06/02/2022 08:17

Congratulations to the Irish and the Scottish. Cracking day of rugby. I did go to the pub but had one pint only - I know it's not LCBC but it's the rugby fgs! Pub grub was pulled lamb with Moroccan salad - hold the rice - and was delish so it is possible to make reasonable food choices. they were also offering mac and cheese in a bap which made me smile/wince

I had two nights out this week and fitted in less exercise so I expect the scales to punish me tomorrow but will KOKO, remembering why I'm doing this.

Jezzballs2000 · 06/02/2022 08:50

Morning all, been catching up after a busy few days. Enjoying reading about people's lives outside of diet. I'm terrible at tagging and posting from a phone makes it harder to keep track but I get such support and pleasure from the thread! Thanks all.

I'm fighting intense anxiety at the moment due to various issues but I've stayed LC throughout, I have strayed into BCL over the weekend which actually feels healthy as I think I can maintain that long term rather than my usual all or nothing approach. I had two old friends come to stay and give me a hand with my toddler (my husband is recovering from surgery and can't do anything to help except backseat parent) and we've made some lovely food including the famous celeriac dauphinois which was gorgeous! So I've eaten well, had a few drinks and mostly pushed my feelings of foreboding deep deep down lol.

B spanakopita inspired frittata with bacon, swerved the pile of buttered bagels my friend lay out.
L - out, chicken thigh skewers with chilli yogurt dressing and guacamole
D roast beef with celeriac dauph sautéed kallettes and brussels (snap to a poster above!) Berries and cream

SummerSazz · 06/02/2022 09:08

I did ok through the afternoon tea (which turned out actually to be cake only!)

I cocked up my timings in the morning leaving the house and so grabbed you/cream/raspberries and a packet of cheesies. Stopped en route and grabbed some eggs and spinach and small chicken skewers and that was lunch. Those staying for the evening there was bread and cheese, meats etc. I had 2 small thin seedy crackers with cream cheese and smoked salmon, some salami & chorizo and a small amount of cheese. I did also have 4 ready salted crisps which were lovely but I stopped . Rather more champagne/wine than is allowed but I'm back on track today. Hopefully It won't stall me for too long! 🤞

SummerSazz · 06/02/2022 09:15

Oh and eating out - I've eaten out a few times and never found it too hard. More upmarket places usually have a grilled fish of some kind or steak and you can have butter if sauce looks carby Plus veg/salad.

At the Indian restaurant I have tandoori mixed grill with salad and okra

At wagamama's I usually have the beef salad (not sure if they still do it as I know there's a new menu) or ramen with no noodles

APerfectlyGoodName · 06/02/2022 10:00

@Newlease I'm still catching up, but while I'm thinking about it, eating out.
B is easy. Eggs, veg. Restaurants often have mushrooms spinach toms, .
I a little harder. Ceaser salad without croutons OR chicken on leaves. Often it is root veg. Parsnip is a no. Look for broccoli. But it can be hard.
D is easier. Steak or fish or chicken fried. Leaves and green veg. Coleslaw.

I0NA · 06/02/2022 10:02

@prettybird 😁😁 at perjink and shoogle. You are doing a good job of teaching Scots words to the English.

For anyone who wants to know, perjink is being too fussy about small details in a way that annoys others.

prettybird · 06/02/2022 10:19

....or it can just mean overly neat and fastidious, about a person. I'm not like that about housework WinkBlush

The other Scottish word I love, that I've taught many English people, is "to thole [something]" (it always has to have an object). = "to bear [something] with great reluctance" Grin
