General Low Carb Bootcamp Chat

Although I generally keep a chat thread going at the end of each Bootcamp, I think it would be better to have an ongoing chat thread that isn't linked to a specific Bootcamp.

So here it is. A sparkly new thread, for all things low carb and Bootcamp chat. As well as anything else you'd like to chat about!

Feel free to chat about anything you like here.

Woken up today not hungry at all which feels good as when I'm not doing this my hunger rules my life and often causes me to make poor choices.

Plan for today is:-
B Boiled Egg with a slice of toasted seriously low carb bread
L Chilli (no kidney bean) and cauli rice
D Chicken kebabs and salad

Onelittlepiglet · 10/01/2022 08:34

I’ve been doing this for just over a week now and have lost 5lb. Very happy about that, although I know it will mainly be water but it’s a good start and I feel so much better than I did. Finding no alcohol absolutely fine and not missing it at all. Drinking so much water!

Today will be:
B - coffee with cream (not hungry at all!).
L: a poached egg and a big pile of left over roasted green veg (sprouts, fennel and courgette).
D: roast pork belly with mashed celeriac with butter and more green veg (depends what looks good at the shops but probably leeks and broccoli).

Hope everyone has a good week!

AllTheBlackCoffee · 10/01/2022 08:53

Morning everyone,

Dark and dingy here today, so not feeling particularly motivated to do a great deal but I've made it to my desk which is a start, I suppose. Today is the day I told myself I'd restart running but I don't think I want to leave the house. Maybe tomorrow...

Food plan looks like:

B: coffee
L: Thai tuna salad. Supposed to be lettuce wrap but I hate them with a passion - so bloody messy!!
D: chilli bake - another Diet Doctor recipe which looks pretty nice and super easy. If it's any good I'll add it to the recipe thread.

prettybird · 10/01/2022 09:05

I've bitten the bullet and weighed myself this morning as I'm starting early.

12st 4lb Shock - nearly a stone up on where I'd got to just before Christmas Xmas Blush

Am about to re-start my exercise regime too Smile

prettybird · 10/01/2022 09:14

Today's food plan: will make soup from one of the tubs of the extra strong ham stock in the freezer, using neeps, celeriac, some not too much carrot, leek and white cabbage.

Dinner will be chicken breast stuffed with Boursin and wrapped in Parma ham, served with shoogled sprouts and buttery cabbage (or possibly that last of the celeriac as "chips")

I'm used to intermittent fasting, so I'm not having breakfast unless I feel hungry, in which case it would be Greek yoghurt with some cinnamon.

Andi2020 · 10/01/2022 09:16

@prettybird I weighed this morning too and have lost the Xmas few pounds so O will be well ready to start new bootcamp Is it starting next week. My sister in law is interested so I sent her the foods she doesn't do social media.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 10/01/2022 09:26

I wasn't going to go anywhere near the scales as it tends to turn into an obsession where I'm hopping on several times a day (expecting what exactly, I am not entirely sure!) but I'm now debating weighing next week at the start of bootcamp proper, them limiting myself to once a week.

Will see how I feel over the next week then maybe take the plunge - would be good to have some kind of measure of success. I am not one for using a tape measure. If the number goes down I assume I've put it in the wrong place and if it goes up, in my mind it just confirms I'm a useless overeater with no willpower Hmm

cheeseisthebest · 10/01/2022 09:52

4 and half pounds down since last Wed. Super happy!

BIWI · 10/01/2022 09:59

Can I ask anyone who hasn't, to add your name to the sign-up thread so that @ouchmyfeet can make sure that everyone is on the spreadsheet next week.

Thank you! Smile

I wasn't planning on going the spreadsheet this time Smile

For me weighing myself is essential as otherwise I kid myself that I'm not putting on weight and that my clothes have shrunk. Facing up to my weight gain last week really helped and I feel good that I'm addressing it now and I've got things in hand - it's a real relief.

Also I have a spa weekend coming up with some friends at the end of the month so I am also addressing the essential maintenance that I've badly neglected since the end of summer such as pedicure and hair removal etc. That combined with my body slowly becoming less bloated is really motivating me to succeed. My friends are all lovely and not judgey but I'd still rather feel confident about my body image when we go in the pool etc.

Baystard · 10/01/2022 12:59

I'm trying to avoid weighing myself too often, it ends up a bit of an obsession if I'm not careful and I think it makes me focus on a finishing line and then end up lapsing back to carbs when I get close to any target number.

I weighed myself on 1 Jan (too awful to talk about) and again on Friday and lost 5 lbs already and feel a lot less bloated. The best bit is that I'm no longer obsessing about carbs and am finding it much easier to make healthy choices.

B - black coffee
L - fasting (can't really think what I'd like to eat so just going to run with it today)
D - italian meatballs followed by blueberries & double cream.

The meatballs are keto (I omitted the breadcrumbs). The sauce is tomato and onion based so does have carbs, however I'm going to try it with finely shredded sweetheart cabbage 'spagetti' instead of pasta. I've got half a ball of mozarella in the fridge and if it's my only meal today I want to get a bit more fat in, so wondering what it might be like on top of the meatballs faux-bechamel-style.

AThroneOfLies · 10/01/2022 16:46

Not sure if any of you already use this app but I’ve been tracking my water intake today on waterlogged, Found it useful as I usually lose count of how many glasses I’ve had.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 10/01/2022 16:48

I am dressed in my running gear ready to head out after my 5pm meeting finishes. Can't say I am looking forward to it but proud of myself for getting this far. Any other runners (not that I would call myself a runner Grin ) venturing out?

Baystard · 10/01/2022 16:58

I love running in retrospect @AllTheBlackCoffee - I hate the first three miles but I get home thinking I've had a great time Grin

BIWI · 10/01/2022 17:00

I've done the C25K three times now - twice during recent lockdowns - and also the 'run 60 miles in September' challenge. I have proved to myself, quite definitively, that I HATE running and I am not ever, ever going to do it ever again.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 10/01/2022 17:31

I'm never entirely sure that I like it @BIWI but a bit like @Baystard I always feel better once it's over. I'm just annoyed once again that I've let my fitness drop, two years ago I was regularly running 10 miles now the thought of a 5k is terrifying.

RosieGuacamosie · 10/01/2022 18:30

Speaking of running, I’m finding it REALLY difficult to run my usual distances on the first few weeks of low carb, is that normal?

byebyecarbs · 10/01/2022 19:28

I'm a runner but the only thing that gets me out of the door is if I commit to run with a friend or a group - I'm not good at going on my own as I tend not to get round to it.

I've been very good today apart from a stolen chip from my daughter's plate. If I lived on my own I would be 100 percent perfect as I'd banish potatoes!

Baystard · 10/01/2022 19:35

@BIWI tried sparkling water as a mixer with gin and...it wasn't awful Shock Will persevere Grin Thanks

BIWI · 10/01/2022 19:42

Yes, in the first couple of weeks you'll find it more challenging. This is because your body is switching over to burning fat rather than carbs for fuel.

Once you're fat-adapted, you'll find your performance is just as good - if not better! than before.

I started (loosely) last week and I’ve dropped 4lbs in preparation for next weeks proper bootcamp. Feeling a little better this week so far, eating well and drinking lots of water.

@AllTheBlackCoffee I ran 5k yesterday… very very slowly so am not going today but I’ll will go out again tomorrow, all being well. Feel a bit to sore today to go again.

RagzReturnedUnwrapped · 10/01/2022 19:56

Started today, with egg mayo for brunch and pork belly, cheese, salad and mayo for dinner. Will have Sprouts later, if I'm hungry. I couldn't face lunch as I had awful period pain and was at work so just drank coffee and ate painkillers.
1l of black coffee coffee and 1l of water so far. Another 1.5 litres of water to go.

prettybird · 10/01/2022 20:05

I started my Jillian Michaels DVDs again today - fortunately I was due back on Day 1, Level 1 of the Ripped DVD Wink. Pilates starts up again tomorrow and on Wednesday night I'm going back to rugby training - I'd been avoiding it for the couple of weeks before Christmas due to Omicron. I'll do Day 2 of Ripped on Wednesday morning. After a week of working my way back in to exercise, I'll start adding in running 3/4 days a week.
