Is anybody interested in a January Low Carb Bootcamp?

The last one was pretty quiet, so I'm trying to gauge how many would be interested in a January one - probably starting around the middle of the month.

@CoffeeChocolateWine yes they are very high carb - 11.4g carbs per 100g. That's why they taste so sweet!

As PP have said, the veg carb counter on the spreadsheet is traffic light colour coded to make it easier to make your choices - nothing to say you can't have the ones that are amber or red, just that you need to be very wary of how often/how much of those you have.

One thing it's also important to point out is that carb counts do vary - so Sainsbury's website, for example, gives parsnips at 11.4g per 100g, whereas on the spreadsheet it says 12.5g.

This depends on many things, e.g. the data source for the information, the specific variety, etc. (We had a merry old ding dong about baby sweetcorn on one Bootcamp!) This is also another reason for not counting our carbs - it can get obsessive or confusing very easily.

Just make sure that the majority of your veg/salad is from the green list and you'll be fine.

I'm interested. I fell off spectacularly, and now need a Big Stick.

By the way, if I haven't already said, 17 Jan is the start date, and it will run for 8 weeks, so finishing on 13 February, with the last weigh-in, conveniently (!) on Monday 14, which is Valentine's Day.

Ummmmm Confused - do I have to point out the issue with those dates? WinkConfused

CoffeeChocolateWine · 02/01/2022 12:21

I think you mean March @BIWI?

CoffeeChocolateWine · 02/01/2022 12:22

But in the plus side, I’m confident I can do it till Feb 13th! Small steps!

nzborn · 02/01/2022 12:26

I'm extremely interested getting married in six months and don't want to be bigger than my partner

Zonder · 02/01/2022 12:46

Yes please. I need to read up on everything after a couple of years break and get my inspiration from this forum. Exciting to be restarting.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 02/01/2022 12:55

@prettybird

I'll be starting early, on the 10th, so that I can have completed the full two weeks of strict Boot Camp (ie no alcohol) before Burns Night on the 25th Grin can still remember how to generate the Scottish emoticons Wink
I'm doing the same! I did LC about 10 years ago and did the same thing! Burns night was like a little beacon in the distance to keep me going! (Not Scottish but DH is)
BIWI · 02/01/2022 13:04

Sorry! Blush. Yes, I did mean 13 March.

Yes please! Need to eliminate wine, chocolate and crackers asap!

greengoose21b · 02/01/2022 15:46

I'll be back @BIWI. Low carbing with your bootcamp is the only way I have ever lost weight and kept it off, but five years down the line (and not helped by the sedentary life of the home worker) I am heading back in the direction I started.

I've done a few bootcamps since but find as a veggie now that it's really hard. I live on nuts, seeds, legumes, oats etc..and I'm lost without them.

BIWI · 02/01/2022 15:51

@greengoose21b you are allowed nuts and seeds as a vegetarian!

I'll see what I can do to create/post about more vegetarian low carb recipes as I know lots of veggies do struggle a bit.

BIWI · 02/01/2022 16:20

By the way, @greengoose21b I came across this article just now, which might be inspiring . Personally I'd ignore the rice recipe as I really doubt the carb count can be so low for that one - but the others look tasty.

OP posts:
CoffeeChocolateWine · 02/01/2022 16:20

Oh flip, are non-veggies not allowed seeds and nuts? I’m in the process of making some nutty seedy clusters as a low-carb breakfast option! Ok, you need to point me in the direction of the rules so I don’t waste any more time!

BIWI · 02/01/2022 16:33

The rules are posted on this thread!

But here's a summary again:

  1. Eat three meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
  2. Avoid processed foods as much as possible
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure your carbs are coming mainly from vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful how much dairy you're consuming - especially milk (butter is unlimited)
  6. You must drink at least 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol (for the first two weeks - and then only in moderation)
  8. No fruit (for the first two weeks - and then only in moderation)
  9. No nuts/seeds (for the first two weeks - and then only in moderation)
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners
OP posts:
BIWI · 02/01/2022 16:34

Oh, and rule 1 is only for the first two weeks, and for novice low carbers. If you've been low carbing (even if on and off) for a while, you can drop down to two meals a day if you wish - as you can do after the first two weeks of Bootcamp.

OP posts:
prettybird · 02/01/2022 16:34

@CoffeeChocolateWine - no nuts or seeds for the first 2 weeks (and thereafter in moderation). You can find the Rules in either the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness (linked to in the OP each week on previous Boot Camps) and in the Week 1 Opening Post.

BIWI · 02/01/2022 16:36

We also don't eat any of the following, for the whole of Bootcamp:

  • bread (of any description)
  • pasta/noodles
  • rice
  • potatoes/sweet potatoes/sweetcorn
  • flour/anything made with or thickened with flour
  • cakes/biscuits/pastries
  • fruit juice
  • full sugar fizzy drinks and squash
  • sugar, in any form (which includes honey/agave syrup/fruit sugar)
  • balsamic vinegar (because unlike other vinegars, this contains sugar)
  • grains, pulses or legumes

@CoffeeChocolateWine when we've finished the first two weeks you are allowed those, but just make sure you're aware just how many carbs might be involved although they sound lovely

There's also a recipe for low carb granola on the vegetarian recipe thread (a Rose Elliott recipe) thats very tasty.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 02/01/2022 16:52

Oh sorry @BIWI, I missed the rules first time round…this thread is moving quickly! I’ve saved it as a photo this time!

Aside from eggs, which I love but not every day, what are some breakfast ideas? Any inspiration threads anywhere?
