Is anybody interested in a January Low Carb Bootcamp?

The last one was pretty quiet, so I'm trying to gauge how many would be interested in a January one - probably starting around the middle of the month.

BIWI · 30/12/2021 10:07

OK - sounds like there's enough interest Grin

I'll start a sign-up thread shortly when I've worked out the specifics.

In the meantime, Here's the new general chat thread I've started . Come and chat about anything generally low carb and/or Bootcamp on this thread.

Any specific suggestions for the next Bootcamp would also be very welcome.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 30/12/2021 16:09

I'd love to join. Have lo-carbed before but not been on a BC thread. Could really do with the support. Can't get my head into better eating habits after lockdowns.

Bumpsadaisie · 30/12/2021 16:12

Yes please! First timer!

Will you explain what we need to do? Thank you!

BIWI · 30/12/2021 16:38

Of course @Bumpsadaisie!

In brief - for the full length of Bootcamp (which will be 8 weeks long this time around), you don't eat any of the following:

  • bread (of any description)
  • pasta/noodles
  • rice
  • potatoes/sweet potatoes/sweetcorn
  • flour/anything made with or thickened with flour
  • cakes/biscuits/pastries
  • fruit juice
  • full sugar fizzy drinks and squash
  • sugar, in any form (which includes honey/agave syrup/fruit sugar)
  • balsamic vinegar (because unlike other vinegars, this contains sugar)

Bootcamp has been designed to be easy to follow (although that doesn't mean it's easy to do - it's not called Bootcamp for nothing!), so there is no need to count or weigh anything. We don't count carbs and we certainly don't look to count or restrict calories.

It's important to note that it's a high fat diet - we don't eat anything that says 'light' or 'lite' or 0% fat.

The first two weeks are the most strict, but after that you can relax a little and start to include a little fruit (mainly berries), some nuts/seeds and a little alcohol - all in moderation though!

There are just ten rules, and as long as you follow these you should lose weight. In brief, the rules for the first two weeks are:

  1. Eat three meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
  2. Avoid processed foods as much as possible
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure your carbs are coming mainly from vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful how much dairy you're consuming - especially milk (butter is unlimited)
  6. You must drink at least 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

When we start the first week, I'll post a new thread and we have a spreadsheet that is used to record our weight each week (it's not compulsory to be on it!); there's also a huge amount of information on the spreadsheet, including the rules in full, a veg carb counter and a list of resources about low carbing.

@BIWI

Thanks so much - very helpful!

BIWI · 30/12/2021 17:07

Sorry - I forgot to add that the other things we don't eat are any pulses/legumes/grains, so no peas, beans, lentils, quinoa etc.

Me too!

ToddlingForwards · 30/12/2021 20:24

Ooh, yes definitely! I really enjoyed my first, lost a good amount but have since crashed and burned spectacularly. Enjoy the food, can just about keep on top of the cooking if I’m organised, just need to figure out how to wrangle my mindset to: This Is It!

AmayaBuzzbee · 31/12/2021 08:18

Yes please!

prettybird · 31/12/2021 10:17

@Happyface120 - yes it's suitable for runners. Once you're ketogenically adapted, you'll find that you're even able to run "fasted" as your body is more easily able to use its own fat for energy Smile

BIWI · 31/12/2021 10:42

... and even elite athletes have enough body fat to sustain a long distance run Smile
