Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

Well, doesn't time fly?!

We've already completed the two, hardest weeks of Bootcamp.

So now, things get a bit different.

During the next 3 weeks, you'll be doing strict Bootcamp during the week, but at weekends, you can relax into Bootcamp Light. This means that you can introduce some fruit - in the form of berries - and some nuts/seeds, albeit occasionally and in moderation, and some alcohol - again, in moderation - and restricted to clear spirits with zero calorie mixers, and/or dry wines

As ever, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I sense that you're all coping really well, although it's also evident that there a lot of practical and (particularly) emotional challenges that are rearing their heads.

Stand tall and stay tough!

This WOE is not a very forgiving one, so it's important that you stick to the rules as much as you possibly, possibly can. I know that real life gets in the way sometimes, but the more you can resist all those obstacles and challenges, the better.

Here's to another successful week!

HOWEVER

I do need to warn you, if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp, that weeks 3 & 4 are very, very challenging. Your body is in the process of transitioning from burning carbs to burning fat; you have lost a lot of water weight, emptied your glycogen stores and have started burning fat. The next two weeks you need to see as consolidation weeks - you may not see much movement on the scales while this is happening.

DON'T PANIC!

You know that it works, because you've lost the weight in the first fortnight - so just KOKO (keep on keeping on), and all will be fine.

This is, though, the reason why - on this Bootcamp - we're aiming to stay strictly Bootcamp during the week. To give us the best chance of losing as we can.

Very good luck to all of us Flowers

This week's recipe is a fish one - seeing as how we've had a meat one and a veggie one!

Baked Marinated Salmon

One salmon steak per person

Marinade:

1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped
2 large cloves garlic, peeled and finely chopped
2 tbsps sesame oil
2 tbsps light soy sauce
juice of a lemon or lime
black pepper
sprinkling of dried oregano
sprinkling of dried chilli flakes (optional)

Mix together.

Put salmon pieces into a (non-metal) dish, pour marinade ingredients over them
Leave to marinade for at least 30 minutes
Wrap pieces in foil and bake in a hot oven for 15 minutes

This is lovely served with stir-fried veg - so typically I'd do finely shredded cabbage, baby sweetcorn, mangetout, pak choi. I sometimes also serve it with Bare Naked Noodles

When im being good it will be one meal and straight back on it.
What I have actually found is that for a day or 2 after I lose more weight. This however is not likely to work that way for most people so im not recommending it, just what happens to me. I've never had carb flu so can't comment on that, I do have to up the will power as the normal hunger feelings return very quickly. Takes a couple of days for them to calm back down. When I tried to research it most of the information is based on althletes which I am definitely not.

Ontherebound34 · 03/11/2021 07:21

Thanks, that’s good to know. Glad it’s working for you.

Moanranger · 03/11/2021 08:14

Thanks to everyone for your inspiring posts. I have completed day one. The cravings were challenging, but I stayed the course. I ate a lot of roast chicken for dinner, and later had an evening snack of salad with half an avocado and blue cheese dressing. I am down 0.9kg this morning.
I am off to prepare the cheeseburger pie, and I found celeriac in Asda last night, Lincolnshire’s finest!

StuntNun · 03/11/2021 08:39
@ditavonteesed do you find that the carb re-feed throws you out of ketosis? The thing that puts me off is that I don’t want to have to go through the keto flu experience every two weeks! On the other hand, I have heard long term keto people on the internet saying that they can have a carb meal and get straight back to the low carb.
There's no need to be in ketosis to lose weight. If you're doing an occasional carb re-feed due to hypothyroidism (which not everyone needs to do if their thyroid hormones levels are well controlled) then it would be a higher carb meal than usual for Bootcamp but not excessively high. It might cause a slight increase in hunger or carb cravings over the next couple of days but that can be managed by being prepared, e.g. having low carb snacks available until the cravings have passed.

Morning all.
Currently sat in hospital with DS. I’m having a reluctant fast as he can’t eat or drink so I wont either. Luckily there is a M&S downstairs so when he goes down I will get him and myself something… any recommendations?

NotwatchingSpooks · 03/11/2021 09:05

Morning thanks so much for all the explanations, rushing around this week, so will be muttering Water Water Water at all times 😂💦

NotwatchingSpooks · 03/11/2021 09:06

listenlinda hope it all goes okay today

StuntNun · 03/11/2021 09:16

Listenlinda M&S will have loads of stuff. Look for their 3 for £7 offer and you will be able to get e.g. rollitos, spicy cauliflower, prawns, etc. If they don't have that then there will be some kind of salad available. Some might have small amounts of carbs in such as a sprinkle of bulgar wheat but they're fine in a pinch. They also do nice Swiss dark chocolate and a dark chocolate version of Toblerone (I think it's called mountain bar.)

TrueGrit54 · 03/11/2021 11:04

Had a delicious lunch yesterday, roasted portobello mushroom with butter and garlic, poached egg and lightly steamed baby spinach. Really filling and yummy.

Lunch today is a smoked mackerel fillet, spinach, dinner is a lemon chicken breast, roast courgettes, cauliflower and sugar snap.

This is probably really obvious but if there is anyone who like me never drank water - I have discovered that I can drink lots of still water (hurrah) but really struggle to do more than sip sparkling water. Weirdly I am not going to the loo that much more but I try to drink it all by 6 pm.

ListenLinda · 03/11/2021 12:09

Thanks @StuntNun , i did end up going fot the 3 for £7 and got DS some sausage rolls for when hr wakes up. All being well we should be home for tea time, and can have a proper LC meal!

BelladiMamma · 03/11/2021 12:19

I’ve had spinach salad with chorizo, red pepper and garlic
@Glenthebattleostrich oh yes the quiet gut...

I always know when I've had too many carbs - all the farting starts again Blush
Same with me.

It’s not polite to speak of it—apparently—but fucking hell, the farts with carbs!!

ShagMeRiggins · 03/11/2021 14:12

And not the LFGV carbs, the processed carb farts!

Bread, rice, pasta, beer, tortilla wraps...

Utterly fart-tastic.

missfliss · 03/11/2021 14:15

I wanted to say Thankyou to everyone who contributes to this thread ( and of course @BIWI for putting all these together).
I've found the quality of nutritional advice here astounding really - clearly well researched and based on good knowledge whether layman or professional

Ted Lasso has the same problem with sparkling water. Grin
ditavonteesed · 03/11/2021 14:45

@ShagMeRiggins the night shift carb farts were the worst eve,I used to be ready to explode by the time I got in my car, saved on petrol though, jet powered. That I do not miss.

Wildheartsease · 03/11/2021 14:53

B: Coffee and cream
L: Cauli-cheese (BIWI's cheese/lemon sauce)
D: Romanesco curry (with cooked chicken if the carb-thieves left any, or fried halloumi if not)

missfliss · 03/11/2021 15:27

Yuck!!!

My tastebuds have totally changed.

Bought some Wagyu biltong as a snack.
Had already started eating it when I decided I didn't like the taste - second ingredient is sugar ! I did finish the packet but am donating my second packet to my husband.

It tasted really ugh. Just had a spoon of cream to get the taste away

@BIWI thanks for the low carb bread recommendation. I have spent a happy half hour sniffing a loaf. Its so we can have bacon sandwiches for DHs birthday next week (his favourite birthday breakfast) and will be having it on Sunday rather than his actual birthday but oh my, it smells good. It's currently in the freezer so i can't munch it.

Today I am v pleased with myself. I was out with my smalls and I knew we would be out over lunch so packed a peperami, some cheesies and some cucumber sticks and a couple of bottles of water. at the play place we were trying lots of Indian starters but i didn't take a bite of anything. wasn't even tempted.

@ListenLinda hope your son is ok.

@ditavonteesed apparently I used to make the duvet float 🤣

@TrueGrit54 that mushroom lunch sounds amazing, i think its on my weekend menu.
