Week 10 - Low Carb Bootcamp - sadly we're not out yet ...

BIWI · 14/06/2021 08:57

Well, this Bootcamp was designed to finish on what's become known as Freedom Day, next Monday.

Sadly it looks like that isn't to be Sad

However, I hope that the last few weeks have helped you get ready to burst out into the new world! In many ways, the extra four weeks does give us a bit more time! (Don't worry, Bootcamp will still finish with next Monday's weigh-in Wink)

Anyway, as ever, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Looks like it's going to be a glorious day - at least here Darn Sarf. I have nothing planned, and DH is out playing golf, so I shall enjoy the garden to myself, I think.

Hope we all have a good last week Flowers

The other bit of advice is: take measurements - or try on and take a photo of sone thing that you can't quite get into or is a bit tight.

Sometimes almost always when the scales are stalling but you're still following the Rules, it's useful to see that you're still changing and improving your shape Smile So the measurements and/or photos help to track that progress.

Great! I did order the low carb bread and rolls after lurking on here. Rolls are great but the bread makes disappointing toast which is probably just as well.

MrsBertBibby · 16/06/2021 09:15

Welcome Bryony!

MrsBertBibby · 16/06/2021 09:29

Crivvens, another bump down this morning. A further 1 1/2 pounds.

My appetite has vanished. I managed quorn fillets and a big heap of coleslaw for lunch, besides that, just nibbles of cheese.

ElasticFirecracker · 16/06/2021 09:29

@Anicetraybake well done with your loss that's amazing.

@Rayna37 I've (almost) managed nearly two years without buying clothes (except bra, footwear and swimming costume). I think because of lockdown and limited opportunities for wearing different clothes it's been much easier.

@ditavonteesed lovely flowers.

@Andi2020 thank you.

@BIWI this is the first boot camp I've completed and it's been great. I've never managed to really get my head around low carb before and am delighted I've got to the end of it. I'm missing rice and beans or maybe my pocket is missing them! I've also eaten my local shop out of artichoke hearts in oil. Hope they get some more in soon.

Will there be another boot camp after this?

Thanks everyone for your help and support.

BIWI · 16/06/2021 09:32

@ElasticFirecracker

Glad it's worked for you!

Once you reach your goal there's no reason why you should occasionally eat things like rice or beans (or bread or pasta or potatoes!), but just keep an eye on how they impact your weight.

Everyone has a different tolerance for carbs, so when you reach maintenance it's all about figuring out what you can/can't include more regularly.

I don't know when the next Bootcamp will be, to be honest. However, we always keep a chat thread going, so there will always be support and somewhere to discuss all things low carb here.

Well done Firecracker!

Is it possible to keep the spreadsheet going Biwi? I am hoping to persist a bit longer (I'm a week behind anyway) and it would be great to get back to my pre lockdown weight, which is I think half a stone to go.

Bryonyshcmyony · 16/06/2021 09:55

I will share my pasta replacement tip - runner beans, pulled through a bean slicer to make 'strings', then tossed with butter. Green spaghetti and very nice atm when the beans aren't stringy.

Bryonyshcmyony · 16/06/2021 09:56

Although I don't think runner beans are the absolute lowest carb, probably better than pasta!!

Bryonyshcmyony · 16/06/2021 10:23

Also - please critique this breakfast which I've just had and was delicious so will have again a couple of times a week
A full fat Greek yogurt yeo Valley 4.7 carbs
A tablespoon ground linseed
Tbsp chia seeds
A few crushed walnuts
About 10? blueberries
Splash double cream

venusandmars · 16/06/2021 12:19

@Bryonyshcmyony hopefully your breakfast will leave you feeling full. I think (from looking at Sainsbury's website that the linseed, chia seeds and blueberries each have over 8g carb per 100g, so you may want to be careful with how much you add, and pay attention to what you are eating the rest of the day, throw in a few handfuls of onion, carrot, tomato, green beans with the rest of your meals and your overall carb count could be quite high (not that we count carbs, of course, but while you're learning this woe it's wise to be aware).

I'd see it as an occasional breakfast.

L - sausages with oven baked radishes and vegetable stir fry
D - tuna mayonnaise and a heap of salad

Well, I've sorted the hotel and they have reluctantly agreed to honour our dinner booking in the restaurant.

Now I'm in an other debate with a river cruise company. Trip on the Danube booked for August (me and a friend). Not surprisingly it's been cancelled. The company offered a voucher to the value of the money already paid plus £150 per person as a 'complimentary bonus'. I phone to rearrange for the same trip next September / October and they want to charge me £600 more Shock So they've made it sound in the cancellation letter as though we are getting money off, when in actual fact I'm expected to pay an additional £450. Not happy about that one, and have sent them away to think again. If they can't won't reduce the price I've asked for a cash refund, not a voucher. I've no idea whether I'm within my rights but while I'm in a stroppy mood I might as well push for what I can get.

BIWI · 16/06/2021 12:37

@Bryonyshcmyony I think that's probably a bit too heavy on the nuts/seeds/fruit - although obviously it depends what you're eating for the rest of the day.

@pangolinfan - aaargh just typed out my recommendations from dopamine diet book & page crashed so have to start again.
I really like the book - the flax seed biscuits are a staple for me after week 2 of BC.
Mostly winter recipes but I love the chicken curry - I swap mince for thigh or breast. Beef with horseradish was nice & cabbage soup with polish sausage & cheese was deliciously heartwarming (not needed at the moment!). I’ve got my eye on the spiced keg of lamb with coconut cauliflower but this is a bit more special. He does do some simple things but they def have a cheffy twist.

Let me know if you try anything & recommend.

Thanks so much Bsky especially for retypingGrin. Yes, I think the ones I like the look of most are generally the chunkier, more wintry things, so will definitely try more later in the year. I am planning to make the tiramisu for friends coming round on Friday eve though, so will let you know what it's like.

Bryonyshcmyony · 16/06/2021 14:22

Thank you! Well it's nearly 2.30 and I'm not hungry, so it clearly hit the spot. I thought chia seeds were super low carb as all the keto diet doctor type sites recommend them? Totally take on board what you've said though and it's probably just a once a week thing when I start to feel sick of eggs/hungry in the morning!

Oneborneverydecade · 16/06/2021 15:09

Thank you @ditavonteesed I haven't worked in 3 years - it's going to be a shock

@StuntNun thank you. I don't eat a lot of processed foods and as you say most things are cooked in butter, so I won't worry too much about the mayo

Oneborneverydecade · 16/06/2021 15:09

Hello @Bryonyshcmyony sounds like you've made a great start

Bryonyshcmyony · 16/06/2021 15:14

Hello!

I've just checked the back of my two packs of chia seeds. One is 4.5g per 100g and one is 8.7!

prettybird · 16/06/2021 15:21

@BIWI : I met with a MNer today for a proper chat and coffee (we'd met briefly before Christmas but had had to stay outside in the cold at the time due to lockdown). She's done BootCamp before (but name changes regularly) and thinks you're an absolute Star and deserve an OBE for "services to weight loss and general health(both physical and mental)" Grin

Does anyone have a recipe for a watermelon salad please?

Bryonyshcmyony · 16/06/2021 21:04

So today

Chia/yogurt/cream porridge thing

Slice low carb bread and butter

3 x Heck sausages, huge pile of cabbage and broccoli with garlic butter

2l water
Coffee with almond milk

Absolutely stuffed, couldn't finish the sausages.

FusionChefGeoff · 16/06/2021 21:29

Hello everyone - mammoth catch up on the thread done. Work (events industry) has been understandably absolutely nuts since the rumours then the actual announcement.

I've completely run the fridge down as haven't been able to find brain space for shopping so thank God my garden is providing FLGV but I'm getting very bored of the same sort of food and not making enough effort with dinners. Big food shop being collected tomorrow though and must make some time (?!!) for meal planning and recipe threads to boost enthusiasm.

Hit a mega low weight wise combined with a huge shopping high and felt amazing about what I've achieved. I've been running and weight training too so I am in the best shape I've ever been - as long as my eyes skip over the diastasis recti that's even more obvious now I'm not carrying so much around my middle.

The immediate and direct consequence was a return to a cheese / Mayo / meat / egg snack situation which I need to get a handle on. Still managing the IF thanks to Simple but cramming far too much into my eating window. I'm not hungry but just keep eating Blush

There has been more genuine hunger than usual today though - hormonal I think

L: curried cooked chicken with sour cream and Mayo, boiled egg and salad
S: few spoons leftover Bolognaise, couple of bits of tapas meat and cheese
D: freezer portion of cauli cheese and red cabbage with bacon green cabbage and my first garden kale!! 2 x Egg and Mayo snack

Bryonyshcmyony · 17/06/2021 07:33

FusionChefGeoff that food sounds yummy. I have a tendency to snack too - eggs and mayo would be high on my list! But you sound so positive and happy with weight loss it's clearly working.

My issue is probably alcohol. I only drink Friday and Sunday (not Saturdays as dd does sport all day on Sunday and I have to be up early to drive her). It's usually one or two vodka lime and soda - not much, but since starting low carb I've noticed it really affects me. Last Sunday night a friend come round and we sat on the garden with a bottle of pink fizz which I am blaming for the hunger pangs on Tuesday!

Today's plans

Coffee with almond milk

Good old bacon and eggs
Not sure what to have for supper...

Bryonyshcmyony · 17/06/2021 07:33

A friend CAME round
