Week 5 - Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 09/05/2021 23:24

Welcome to Week 5!

Here's the spreadsheet

Hopefully we can now put the horrible weeks 3 & 4 behind us, and get on with the serious job of shedding the pounds of fat Smile

By now, hopefully, low carbing eating should feel like it's the 'new normal', and you should be getting used to it. However, there's also the opposite danger, that you're seeing carbs creeping back into your menus.

This is a good time to take stock. Have a think about the things you've been eating over the last week and ask yourself if they are really 'in the spirit' of Bootcamp. Are you really keeping your carbs low, and focused mainly on vegetables and salad? Are you really eating enough fat? And, perhaps most importantly, are you drinking all the water?

From now on, you should see the scales move again - albeit that the weekly loss should be in the range of 1-2lbs a week (possibly more if you have a lot to lose).

I really hope that you are finding that you're settling into this WOE, and that you're enjoying the food, not feeling deprived, and are seeing the scales/tape measure reflect your commitment.

At the end of this week we will be half way through Bootcamp!

Good news - hope it stays that way as they expect @BestIsWest Thanks

I think to be fair on @Figrus2 Thanks - she didn't want to say who had posted something triggering for her as that might stop that person posting about it in the future, which she didn't want to happen as it was her personal issue (at least, that was my interpretation Wink). The problem is that now each of us is wondering and worrying if it was our post that was the problem Confused - which was not Figrus2's intention Sad

nowlook · 10/05/2021 14:40

Pleased to read your update @BestIsWest!

BIWI · 10/05/2021 14:50

@BestIsWest

FWIW, I’m sure we’re all wondering what we could have posted that might be triggering. If it’s me talking about a cancer scare then I am very sorry but I also need the support from the thread especially as my issue might be caused by this WOE. Are we saying that we should keep these threads light hearted and limit topics to food, bathrooms, eyebrows etc?

If so would it be an idea to have a separate thread for more serious issues?

No - absolutely not!

These threads exist to help us all, and provide support for us all - whether that's about food or bathroom refurbishments or health scares.

It's impossible to try and second guess what might trigger other people.

@Figrus2 stepped away from the thread for a while, which I think is probably the best course of action for any of us if we are feeling triggered. But I don't think anyone should try and censor their posts 'just in case'.

@BestIsWest that is great newsFlowers
Hope you get biopsy results soon

ElasticFirecracker · 10/05/2021 15:04

Hello

This week's loss is 4 lbs. So a total loss of 7.5 lbs. I also had to make some changes to my figures in the spreadsheet for previous weeks because I'd made mistakes when converting from kilos to pounds.

I'm really pleased with that, and really pleased to be taking part in this.

BIWI · 10/05/2021 15:05

Great news @ElasticFirecracker!

And also for you @Random789 - I don't think you believed you were going to see a loss today Grin

OP posts:
nowlook · 10/05/2021 15:22

That's fantastic @ElasticFirecracker! I remember you posting your rules/analysis and hoping that you had a fruitful week last week.

Can you pinpoint what's made the difference for you? Was it the fat in the end?

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 10/05/2021 15:26

@venusandmars you’ve had a holiday and only put ONE pound on??? How do you do that???

venusandmars · 10/05/2021 16:05

@Ifeelmuchlessfat the holiday was in Scotland, on windswept islands, it was bloody cold and I think I shivered all the excess away Grin But seriously, I have been eating this way for a while and so I don't find it too hard to make good choices or to ask for food substitutions (although the CalMac staff were a bit Confused when I asked for the salmon and cream cheese bagel without the bagel - but they obliged and even put a wee bit of salad on the side). I had fish and chips once when there was almost no other choice macaroni cheese or baked potato with beans but the hardest was staying with friends who have a B&B and sticking only to omelette for breakfast or bacon, egg, sausage etc and turning down the lovingly prepared bircher oat with cherries, or granola, or fresh fruit juice, pancakes with maple syrup, toast and marmalade. But I've got 2 and a half months to get closer to my target and I can't afford to go too far off piste. Plus when I do my tummy doesn't like it, and there's a return to the land of farting Blush

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 10/05/2021 16:45

@venusandmars yes I forget that not everyone is a raging alcoholic who can’t control their intake on any day that can be perceived as a holiday Grin
I’m fine with food, just lurve the old vino. Weight loss this week primarily due to abstaining at the weekend. I swear if I was teetotal I’d be a size 8 Hmm

Oneborneverydecade · 10/05/2021 16:46

How did your hysteroscopy go @BestIsWest? There was an AIBU thread recently were the general consensus was they should be (but often aren't) performed with anaesthetic

Oneborneverydecade · 10/05/2021 16:53

I did a pot throwing course on Saturday at a local college of the arts. Lunch was included but DH made me soup as a standby. I needed have worried, there was both spring green soup and several salads. I was both shocked and pleased.

That's not to say my weekend was totally on plan. In fact I'm using yesterday's weight as I seem to have gained 2.5lb following a family bbq. Food was okay.

Having posted that I feel motivated to lose the final 7lb I've done bugger all about it

venusandmars · 10/05/2021 16:55

@Ifeelmuchlessfat I fall (literally at times) into the too much vino camp, but dh is a very moderate drinker (he gets migraines if he over indulges) and he can sometimes get a bit judgemental or at least that's how I perceive it There's not much space for rebellious drinking in a campervan, so I don't deserve a halo!

Oneborneverydecade · 10/05/2021 16:58

I really hope that no one feel compelled to censor their posts and that no one feels guilty for what they may have posted last week.

BestIsWest · 10/05/2021 16:58

@Oneborneverydecade it was ok. I won’t say it was painless, there was a bit of period like discomfort but the staff were lovely and very reassuring. It was over in a few minutes. I think the anticipation was worse. I didn’t need a GA at all but I can see why someone else might need one.

BestIsWest · 10/05/2021 17:00

@Oneborneverydecade so jealous of the pot throwing course. That was my present from DD for Christmas 2019 but had to be converted into a do it at home kit.

Oneborneverydecade · 10/05/2021 17:15

Ah that's a shame @BestIsWest Mine was a present for my 40th - I'm 44 this year - it's taken this long to make it happen. I didn't love it though, I found it really tricky

nowlook · 10/05/2021 17:23

I was just mooching on the spreadsheet and noticed a concentration around the 144lb mark. Are we all the the 42 year olds who are 5ft 3 and under? Could we all be stunt doubles for each other?

(on a related note, I've found that committing pre-BC to update the spreadsheet on behalf of @cheeseisthebest has meant that I have to stick around. My desire not to let another poster down is stronger than my natural willpower. So, thank you for your unintended support cheese. Might be worth considering doing something similar on future BCs if you're the flaky sort who is wont to disappear at week 7 or similar. Just an idea @BIWI- which you've probably already trialled in a previous BC in 1992 or similar Grin)

ElasticFirecracker · 10/05/2021 17:37

@nowlook

I haven't had a chance to sit down and think about it carefully, but off the top of my head:

I ate more fat. In fact I think I actually ate slightly too much fat last week!

There were some things I had been eating that I thought were lower carb than they actually were. So I improved that.

I completely cut out milk - I think this made a difference to me.

I ate a lot more last week than I normally do.

I ate tons of veg and salad at every meal including for breakfast.

I tried very hard not to snack/eat out of the fridge.

I am really lazy/disorganised about food and I've sort of trained myself to be that way after years of being thoroughly obsessed with it.

I find it very hard to think about food/plan meals and work out what it would mean if I ate a certain thing. My brain just doesn't seem to want to retain the information. Because of this I noted my meals on my Fitbit app which gave me an idea of how I was doing as I went along and I found it very helpful.

If I didn't note it down I just wouldn't be able to tell you what I had for breakfast or even whether I had breakfast.

I have been having a planned snack in the afternoon - I always feel hungry at about 4:30 and generally don't have dinner till late.

This week I want to try to eliminate the snack and try to improve meal routines and times.

I've exceeded my water target on several days.

I think overall it's just being more knowledgeable and compliant with the rules.

ElasticFirecracker · 10/05/2021 17:42

Thank you @BIWI . I'm really pleased and very grateful for the support. Although I managed well with a low-glycemic diet I've tried many times and failed so do low carb.

I'm hoping there will be other benefits apart from weight loss for me, such as more mindful and orderly eating.

nowlook · 10/05/2021 17:46

Well, your result this week suggests you didn't eat too much fat at all @ElasticFirecracker Grin Well done!

cheeseisthebest · 10/05/2021 18:45

Glad to be of help nowlook! Grin

ditavonteesed · 10/05/2021 18:58

Hey everyone, sorry been mad busy with work I don't think I posted at all last week, will try and catch up properly later. Cute lamb.

I have a week off so plan is lots of exercise before I consciously step off the wagon for my birthday on Friday. I am going to make a decision about how much and for how long and stick to it therefor retaining the control and minimising any damage. At the minute I am thinking probably just for one meal and maybe a sliver of cake.

ListenLinda · 10/05/2021 18:59

I’m having a hard time keeping up just lately but I am trying to read as much as I can.
Being back at work and the weekend has thrown me haha I havent stopped!
2.5lbs off for me this week, so it stuck thankfully. Hopefully i can koko and see it going downwards now.
Need to get a food shop done ASAP as I am spending too much again on bits at bloody Tescos on a lunch time. Salad meats and cheese but every day it adds up.
And would like to change it up a bit, so an order of SLC bread is going in so I can make a sandwich now and again.

Thinnerlikeachickendinner · 10/05/2021 19:09

One pound up!

Could be a combination of things, mostly too much cheese and not enough water by far. I really, really struggle with the water intake.
