Week 5 - Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 09/05/2021 23:24

Welcome to Week 5!

Here's the spreadsheet

Hopefully we can now put the horrible weeks 3 & 4 behind us, and get on with the serious job of shedding the pounds of fat Smile

By now, hopefully, low carbing eating should feel like it's the 'new normal', and you should be getting used to it. However, there's also the opposite danger, that you're seeing carbs creeping back into your menus.

This is a good time to take stock. Have a think about the things you've been eating over the last week and ask yourself if they are really 'in the spirit' of Bootcamp. Are you really keeping your carbs low, and focused mainly on vegetables and salad? Are you really eating enough fat? And, perhaps most importantly, are you drinking all the water?

From now on, you should see the scales move again - albeit that the weekly loss should be in the range of 1-2lbs a week (possibly more if you have a lot to lose).

I really hope that you are finding that you're settling into this WOE, and that you're enjoying the food, not feeling deprived, and are seeing the scales/tape measure reflect your commitment.

At the end of this week we will be half way through Bootcamp!

Er.....I have gained 6lbs this week Blush Blush Blush I was just so knackered from the getting up at 2am to check sheep and then not really getting back to sleep again after that I fell into piles of sugar and carbs to keep me going and then yesterday we had a celebratory 'do bugger all' day as the last ewe had lambed and there was pizza, ice cream, muffins and a lot of lying about on the sofa watching Grand Designs.

Back to strict bootcamp this morning - leftover cauliflower cheese for breakfast, soup for lunch and chilli and FLGV for supper.

Bit of a bittersweet end to lambing, the last ewe was scanned for twins, had a lamb that was bigger than the one the ewe having a single lamb had had a few hours earlier, and showed no sign of even thinking about going into labour with a second, so we assumed the second hadn't implanted properly. Kept an eye on her to make sure she passed the afterbirth okay and when she still hadn't after three hours decided to get her penned up to check her. At which point a water bag shot out and burst as we were taking her up the hill. Sadly the second lamb was dead - sometimes you can get them going by swinging them to clear mucus from the lungs and then giving them the kiss of life, but we couldn't get a pulse. However, the surviving twin has badger markings - this is a fairly rare recessive gene in Cheviot sheep, but I'm guessing it exists in Shetlands too so it could have come from either parent - and she is the prettiest little thing. Shame she's a ewe lamb as I'm now under a lot of pressure from DH and my mother to keep her when I was intending to sell all the lambs this year!!

I kind of missed the last bit of last week's thread after a bust weekend : first visit to my mum inside her home, sadly she was very subdued. My sister who is usually in southern Africa is back here for a bunch of grant meetings and some holiday, and she came by freshly released from quarantine. First time since before Covid. Our bees decided to try a swarm so lots of running about restoring order.

MrsBertBibby · 10/05/2021 08:51

Lamb pix please Owl!

nowlook · 10/05/2021 08:58

Oh, she's a smasher @VeryLittleOwl. Congratulations on getting through another lambing!

@Figrus2, there's probably a fair few posters (me included) who are worried that it was them who upset you. Nobody sets out to trigger anyone else. This is a support thread and some posters (me not included) have been going through some very difficult times recently. Feel free to pm me if there's something I posted that was challenging for you as it's not possible to self-police otherwise. I'm sorry you were triggered Flowers

NigellaAwesome · 10/05/2021 09:01

Damn - I posted this on the wrong week's thread. Here goes again:

Morning everyone, I hope the scales / NSVs have been good for you all.

I am in the process of converting our holiday home into an AirBNB let, so I have been away most of last week and haven't kept up with the thread, but I am really pleased to see you back @ilovecherries, although so sorry to hear you have had a shit time.

It has been weird in a good way to be away working at the house. There are a mountain of tiny maintenance jobs to do, as well as conducting an audit of bedding / towels (sooo many towels needed). So I have been working to beyond 9.30pm pretty much most nights, and just eating when hungry. I won't try to pretend that I have been on track the whole time, but for me, it has been pretty good. I am stiff and sore from all the cleaning!

I also quite liked the fact that I hadn't seen or spoken to anyone in days and just listening to audio books. I got back home last night to tales of my teen DC taking chunks out of one another hmm. So good to be home.

Anyway, back to normal this week, and back on the straight and narrow.

Hope you all have a good week peeps.

BIWI · 10/05/2021 09:18

@Hughbert

It's been a difficult few weeks Ziggzagg so 🤞 today goes well and the 6lbs vanishes quickly. Had a lovely weekend nowlook thank you :) Another lb on. I'm now at my highest weight ever, which is really bloody depressing. As per my last post, I'm going to cut out dairy this week and try to eat 3 meals a day and see if that makes a difference. Hope everyone else has better results!
@Hughbert

What have you been eating/drinking? Can you list out for me your last few days, and let's see if we can help you.

1.5 pounds down here so that’s 6 in total. My new scales measure me a pound heavier so I’m pleased with that!

Just had a cheese and mushroom omelette, hope that keeps me going until an early dinner.

nowlook · 10/05/2021 09:21

That sounds very restful @NigellaAwesome, if hard work! Are you hoping to open for the summer season?

Did your Dsis have to quarantine in a hotel @MrsBertBibby? What was it like?!

I think I'll take a leaf out of your book @Rshard and get out of the house at lunchtime. Something in the spirit of MIM. TK Maxx? Grin It's very easy for the week and weekends to become one homogeneous blob.

Rayna37 · 10/05/2021 09:36

Down by a bit more than I'd gained last week but still ending the weekends quite a bit higher than I hit around Weds/Thursdays! Too much wine and not enough water. Should have a good week again with DH away and no wine open either.

Started the day with a swim but will be back to squeezing in yoga once DS is in bed now. Unless I manage a run before nursery pick up one day.

Goal is to have the next weigh in under 9 stone. Only 2 weeks before my holiday so need to knuckle down. Have hit it a few times during the weeks. Goal is 8 and a half.

Andi2020 · 10/05/2021 09:52

@ZiggZagg good luck in new job
Fresh start is nice.
@prettybird I was hoping for the 11st mark but 11st 1lb so a total of 8lb off
Hopefully next week.
@Figrus2 apology if my conversation triggered you. If it was me as @nowlook said let me know as I really would not intentionally want to trigger anyone.

I actually get help from this thread by getting to know people and what knocks people back to carbs. Or snacking.
And what motivates people like walking excercise food.

I love all house talk teen stuff lambing on yesterday's thread and this morning. all caught up now on yesterday's. Chat
Mums anniversary so went to grave a nice walk by her favourite lake and an outdoor visit to my dad.
I'm jealous of the eating out people as we not that far on with covid19
Good luck with week 5 everyone

FinallyHere · 10/05/2021 09:53

Lovely pix thank you @VeryLittleOwl

I can see how the pressure might build to keep just one on. Are you the person who does all the day to day work?

Random789 · 10/05/2021 09:55

Off for my first public yoga in over a year now -- an outdoor class at my gym. In the novelty of it all I'm angsting slightly about whether it's ok to have mildy hairy big toes in public. I mean, I'm not a hobbit or anything but it has gradually sunk in to me that foot epilation is actually a thing people do.
What's the verdict - bald toes for yoga, yes or no?

(Will weigh in at the gym and post my weight later.)

cheeseisthebest · 10/05/2021 09:57

Love the lamb!

prettybird · 10/05/2021 09:58

Slightly hairy big toes are absolutely fine Grin. If other people are spending their time examining your toes a) why? b) that's their problem and most importantly c) why aren't they concentrating on their own yoga poses Wink

nowlook · 10/05/2021 09:59

Put the effort in @Random789 and french plait them Grin

Glad you had a peaceful day on your Mum's anniversary @Andi2020 Flowers

FinallyHere · 10/05/2021 10:01

bald toes for yoga

Maybe it's just me, but I have never yet had any time (or puff) left at a yoga class to notice anything about anyone else.

There is usually I have found a strong ethos of yoga being about you and what you bring to the mat each day you show up.

If you prefer your toes bald, that's entirely up to you. I honestly doubt anyone else will notice.

venusandmars · 10/05/2021 10:02

One pound up, but that's after 10 days of various celebrations and holiday. Another round of holidays coming up in 2 weeks, so I've got 14 days to be on seriously strict bootcamp.

B - coffee with cream
L - egg mayo and salad
D - chicken curry

Rshard · 10/05/2021 10:08

Cool finallyhere and nowlook, I have now looked at the forecast...still going to do it tho.

Gorgeous lamb verylittleowl

😂 at the hairy/bald toes conversation!

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 10/05/2021 10:08

Good morning

I don't think I posted at all last week: sorry! I had my second vaccine, plus Bank holidays etc, & the week flew away.

Half a pound on for me this week, and I know why. Been following the rules, broadly, but overdone the booze & dark choc. Onwards!

@prettybird the BEST thing we put in our new bathroom was two heated towel-rails, rather than one. Luxury.

@nowlook cheeky bastards not turning up! And I hope DS1 is ok & not in pain.

@Bestiswest I, too, have a DH who saves bits of wood. You have my sympathies.

@Oneborneverydecade sorry about your car crunch

Thanks for @colouringindoors

@Athelstanetheunready so impressive!

@BIWI massive congratulations on finishing the C25K! My lungs won’t let me atm, so I’m running vicariously through you (so will somehow absorb the fitness benefits, probably).

And WOOHOO to @FusionChefGeoff! I’m soooo pleased for you.Wine

I’ve been nodding along with the posts about the ‘at least...’ friends. I get a LOT of that. Yes, yes, at least I’m not dead. I know.

Good luck @ZiggZagg!

Thanksfor @MrsBertBibby

@Random789 you have prompted me to examine my own big toes Grin

Random789 · 10/05/2021 10:11

Glad there seems to be a feeling that hairy toes are ok . Naturally, they are neatly plaited, nowlook (the hair, I mean. Not the toes -- my yoga isn't up to that yet.)

Congratulations to all who have had good results onnthe scales, and solidarity with those who haven't -- I'm not hopefull that I will record a loss.

NigellaAwesome · 10/05/2021 10:17

@Random789 and d) if they can see your hirsute toes they are too close.

Surely with yoga being hippy based then lots of hair is good? non?

@nowlook, we have our first paying guests in 2 1/2 weeks. We are getting a new shower put in this week which is exciting as the last one was painfully crap. I really want it to be a lovely experience for our guests, but DH says I am spending too much money and thinking with my heart and not my head.

MrsBertBibby · 10/05/2021 10:21

I think we need pictures of toes so we can all form a proper view.

My sis did a 10 day stop in Turkey to avoid the quarantine Hotel, nowlook, but they said the management of those that had to go looked pretty ghastly. They quarantined at Dad's house until 5 day tests were clear. They actually got him to get rid of some of the mountains of crap in his office so time we'll spent.

nowlook · 10/05/2021 10:23

Well, on behalf of all airbnb users, I salute you for going the extra mile @NigellaAwesome. You should compare notes with @VeryLittleOwl who I think has done more than one of these (may be misremembering).

TWO heated towel-rails Miles? That's just profligate Grin.

nowlook · 10/05/2021 10:25

I wouldn't mind quarantining @MrsBertBibby, just not in one of the designated hotels! I've already decided to go on holiday this summer if flights are operating and the destination is on the amber list (huge spike in infections etc permitting). I'm a hermit when I'm away in any event!

Rayna37 · 10/05/2021 10:38

I've got friends currently in hotel quarantine in NZ; they picked the worst possible 18 months or so to come back to spend some time UK before their son started school properly. Hardly saw anyone! They've got a 2 bed suite and it's going ok!

Light heartedly fuming since DH got on the new Renpho scales- we both have a BMI of 22 (his is slightly higher than mine!) but his body fat is on the athlete/fitness border, with mine on the acceptable/obesity border! Humph!
