April Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 1

BIWI · 11/04/2021 20:54

Welcome everyone!

Here, as ever, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness created and lovingly managed by the wonderful @AthelstaneTheUnready

Hopefully you should find that you're already on the spreadsheet - but if not, just add your name to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that for you. And don't touch the blue cells or try to enter any other data or comments!

For those that are new, each week I'll start a new chat thread, on Monday, and we'll start off with recording our weight.

However

You don't have to use your weight to measure your progress - and you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to be. Instead, take your measurements each week (bust/upper arms/waist/hips/thighs), or find an item of clothing that's just too tight/small right now, and keep trying it on each week.

The rules of Bootcamp are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - but here's a quick summary of the rules for the first two weeks:

  1. Eat three meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you're eating vegetables and salad with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy, apart from butter which is unlimited
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

Make sure you have a really good read of the spreadsheet for the full detail of the rules. Also, check out the tabs at the bottom - there's a huge amount of information that will really help you, especially if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

There's also a thread here of FAQs which should be helpful.

Some thread etiquette

The thread will move really quickly - especially at the beginning.

But please take the time to read everyone's posts, rather than just plopping on with your own comments/thoughts/questions. It's very frustrating when someone comes on to the thread to ask a question that's been posed and answered already!

Don't lurk!

I know that not everyone is confident about posting - and also that there are a lot of posters who are regular Bootcampers, and who know other Bootcampers. Please don't think this is a cliquey thread. It couldn't be further from the truth!

Everyone's views and experiences are welcome and valid, so jump in and post.

Any questions, please just post. Or PM me. There's always someone here who can help - and if I or they can't, then we can always find someone who can!

Above all, very good luck to everyone.

I very much hope that by the time we come to the end of these ten weeks, that we really are (as a country) completely ready to leave Lockdown well behind.

Wishing everyone all the luck Flowers

The very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready has to add you to the spreadsheet I think.

Might be worth trawling through this thread from the beginning for some inspiration while you're waiting Grin

devoncreamtea · 14/04/2021 20:27

Phew read thread! Very enjoyable and hilaire and informative. I can’t remember who said what now though...! Glad weeing is lessening; flounces were salvaged; hot chocolate has been invented and lambing is happening next to a celeriac field.

Think I need more fat as feel hungry although I seem to have eaten loads more than most people...

B scrambled eggs; kimchi; half avo; tea
L: ham; salad; pickled egg (Blush) few olives and an oil/cider vin dressing
Greek yog
D: 1/2 a steak in creamy sauce; asparagus; salad.

For some reason still hungry. If it doesn’t go away will eat bit of cheese.

nowlook · 14/04/2021 20:32

I see you've got your cheffy hat on today FusionChefGeoff. Lovely sounding meals!

For the tape, we should say that you've been doing this for 10(?) weeks now, lest anyone think you've had two periods since Monday Grin. Glad your symptoms have eased. Mine very much did too.

FusionChefGeoff · 14/04/2021 20:47

@nowlook yes that's a good point don't want anyone to start panicking GrinGrin. I am a BC hybrid at the moment having started half way though the last one!!!

And thank you for the cheffy comment I'm definitely getting into the swing of the new way of cooking and maximising batch cooking for things like the cauli cheese so it's easy in the week. Plus my fancy schmancy oils make it much easier!!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/04/2021 20:52

You're all sorted on the list now, @Andi2020!

@nowlook, hark at you giving Momsincharge grief for holidaying dropping crisp packets in your garden in the Peak District. You're off to Wales, so one in / one out. No probs.

(don't forget to throw your cup out of the car window before you return)

B: coffee, and in a bizarre twist of personality, about 1.5 litres of green tea with mint and lemon Confused
L: none - forgot - gobsmackingly complex training course overran (I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TALK ALGEBRA Angry )
D: utterly un-chefy mince/carrot/courgette/garlic/onion fried-then-baked-in-tinned-tomatoes hopeless effort. Not redeemed by coating with cheddar.

All in all, a hapless day - one mug smashed on floor, one ladle gloop flipped across kitchen (including ladle), one pint water spilled on carpet, 3 cubic meters black smoke wrong way down chimney, one thumb twisted in doorjamb. All good low carb activity.

cheeseisthebest · 14/04/2021 20:57

That sounds a stressful day! My work is also nuts and I struggle to switch off. End up spending all evening doing emails.
Love the idea of the cocoa, didn't realise that would be allowed!
Good food day today -
Breakfast - salmon, scrambled eggs and cold chicken. Wanted avocado but had run out.
Dinner- chicken cooked with pepper's, shallots, chorizo, tomatoes, paprika and oregano. Broccoli on the side.
Greek yoghurt with cream and cinnamon.
Had 1 creamy coffee, 2 teas and all the water.
I did have a few crabsticks earlier then realised they've got sugar in! Quite processed I guess anyway

cheeseisthebest · 14/04/2021 20:57

Breakfast was more a brunch and nor my first bootcamp so do fast occasionally.

nowlook · 14/04/2021 20:59

I offered her a fecking omelette @AthelstaneTheUnready Grin

I'm sure @Momsincharge is not a litterbug
(is that Mom from the Black Country/Brum or Mom from the US?)

Sorry about your day though Flowers The worst part was surely the algebra.

ListenLinda · 14/04/2021 21:06

Well here is a first, i was eating my chilli @ broccoli combo, had two forkfuls left and had to and did leave it! Before BC, I would of forced them down.
Greek yog, tuna & cheese salad, chilli & broccoli. No snacks between as didnt feel hungry. 3.5 litres of water.
So happy to be back in thw swing of things Sad

ListenLinda · 14/04/2021 21:07

That should of been a smiley face, stupid fingers

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/04/2021 21:08

Ah, yes, the emails. The count of unread ones goes up a bit everyday - I think I'm on about 1,500 unread at the moment.

My manager casually mentioned an interesting tactic - at the end of the day he just marks all his as 'read' to stop him worrying about it Confused Grin Confused

(don't try that Cheese)

On the plus side, my hair's starting to look a bit shiny.

That is good news! It's amazing how a sense of true fullness develops when eating this way. Although day 3 is probably a record Grin

Very odd to leave behind that I'm so full / but I must just have one more mouthful / but I'm so full / but maybe just a bit of pudding self-force-feeding that can happen on a carb-heavy diet.

colouringindoors · 14/04/2021 21:20

Really craving a g and t!!!

Doilooklikeatourist · 14/04/2021 21:22

@AthelstaneTheUnready I thought everything was improved by adding cheddar ?
@nowlook , I like in Wales , pop in
@BIWI son at home you say , would he like to meet my daughter ( 23 , arts graduate , Covid cut short gap year so back with us and bored to tears ) not really though , she’d kill me

ListenLinda · 14/04/2021 21:23

@AthelstaneTheUnready i know I was surprised myself haha maybe ive got back into fat adapted mode very quickly after last BC, or I had found the sweet spot of fat in my meals!
This WOE just agrees with me more than any other diet/WOE ever has, including bloody slimming world.
Could kick myself at how much money I gave them over the years and ended up fatter every time!

nowlook · 14/04/2021 21:28

@mistywillow17

Some great ideas here, I need to get a new notebook to write them down! Today's triumph was frozen sprouts chucked in the air fryer for 20 minutes with a dash of oil. I was just experimenting really (out of working from home boredom and can't-be-arsed-ness) and quite sceptical, but they came out tender and beautifully caramelised. I melted a good dob of butter through them and they were GORGEOUS. (We are big sprout fans in this house anyway, when we have a roast dinner my 5 year old instigates "sprout race!" every time to see who can eat theirs first! As he mainly exists on chicken dippers and chocolate cake, this is a bit of a triumph)
You must try Ragz' Dirty Fries if you've got an air fryer! They're on the recipe thread (possibly the vegetarian one, towards the end). Try them even if you haven't got an air fryer.
Momsincharge · 14/04/2021 21:31

@nowlook it’s American.

Of course we don’t litter!

Andi2020 · 14/04/2021 21:35

@AthelstaneTheUnready thanks for adding

nowlook · 14/04/2021 21:39

I'd love to @Doilooklikeatourist Grin Don't suppose you're anywhere near Haverfordwest? I'll treat you to a gin and tonic cuppa, given Wales will be open again by then. It would have to fit in with routine, of course (factory-milford haven tesco-factory-milford haven tesco)

devoncreamtea · 14/04/2021 21:51

BIWI · 14/04/2021 22:05

@Orcagirl

Breakfast - greek yog Lunch- tuna salad with coleslaw, mozzarella and olive oil Tea- chicken Alfredo

Feel like I pigged out on the chicken Alfredo but the cauli definitely bulked it out! It feels wrong to be eating something so cheesy and creamy 🤪🤪🤪 But I will trust the process! What’s the advice on portion sizes?

Thanks to those that have created this plan by the way . X

On portion sizes - eat enough to satisfy you!

A word of warning though. The average dinner plate these days is around 12 inches in diameter. A few years ago it was around 10 inches.

So think about how much you're putting on your plate!
