BIWI · 11/04/2021 20:54

Welcome everyone!

Here, as ever, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness created and lovingly managed by the wonderful @AthelstaneTheUnready

Hopefully you should find that you're already on the spreadsheet - but if not, just add your name to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that for you. And don't touch the blue cells or try to enter any other data or comments!

For those that are new, each week I'll start a new chat thread, on Monday, and we'll start off with recording our weight.

However

You don't have to use your weight to measure your progress - and you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to be. Instead, take your measurements each week (bust/upper arms/waist/hips/thighs), or find an item of clothing that's just too tight/small right now, and keep trying it on each week.

The rules of Bootcamp are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - but here's a quick summary of the rules for the first two weeks:

  1. Eat three meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you're eating vegetables and salad with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy, apart from butter which is unlimited
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

Make sure you have a really good read of the spreadsheet for the full detail of the rules. Also, check out the tabs at the bottom - there's a huge amount of information that will really help you, especially if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

There's also a thread here of FAQs which should be helpful.

Some thread etiquette

The thread will move really quickly - especially at the beginning.

But please take the time to read everyone's posts, rather than just plopping on with your own comments/thoughts/questions. It's very frustrating when someone comes on to the thread to ask a question that's been posed and answered already!

Don't lurk!

I know that not everyone is confident about posting - and also that there are a lot of posters who are regular Bootcampers, and who know other Bootcampers. Please don't think this is a cliquey thread. It couldn't be further from the truth!

Everyone's views and experiences are welcome and valid, so jump in and post.

Any questions, please just post. Or PM me. There's always someone here who can help - and if I or they can't, then we can always find someone who can!

Above all, very good luck to everyone.

I very much hope that by the time we come to the end of these ten weeks, that we really are (as a country) completely ready to leave Lockdown well behind.

Wishing everyone all the luck Flowers

Cauliflower surprised me today!
Have never much bothered with it but steamed it today to eat after my swim -it was just gorgeous steamed! (just left it in the electric steamer when I went out) Soft and very sweet!

Chunkymonkey123 · 14/04/2021 19:20

Thank you @TheGoodShipObvious and @StuntNun, good snack ideas. I need to be better prepared with easy options like that in the fridge.

Doilooklikeatourist · 14/04/2021 19:21

@nowlook , yes to both , the smoked fish was delicious , soft with delicate flavour , and yes , Tesco
Will buy it again

JimmyJabs · 14/04/2021 19:34

My rosewater question seems to have fallen down the thread, so I'll ask it again - do we think I'll be ok to stir a bit of rosewater into my yoghurt? I've looked online and it seems to have no nutritional value at all so I'm thinking it'll be alright.

I tried it with coffee stirred in this morning, which was ok but the coffee flavour was rather drowned out by the yoghurt tang.

I make a special trip to Iceland for my cauli rice as it's the only place that reliably stocks it here (my main shops alternate between Sainsbury's, Aldi and Waitrose). Great for the convenience factor of just having something in you can cook at no notice but as a PP said best with something saucy, no use as a side in it's own right really. Probably don't need to say this on a high fat bootcamp but don't steam it in the bag (🤢) you need to slit open and sauté in butter, ghee or coconut oil depending on what it's to go with. Makes good kedgeree too.

Really laughed earlier at the stern black coffee Random; perfect description.

Today in food:
B: two cold but perfectly boiled eggs with celery salt (Swim day so eaten mid morning at work)
L: Greek salad (feta, olives, spinach tomato cucumber oil) then Greek yogurt
D: pork chop, bit of leftover mashed swede, spring greens and leeks.

All my water/chamomile, one coffee and one tea with milk, just having a peppermint tea now while scowling in the direction of the cupboard storing my 90% Lindt

[quote Bestbees]@Ninkanink certainly there is a 'smoking behind the bike shed/ passing notes in class with innocent face vibe'.

Well, I certainly feel seen by that particular comment Grin

On a more BC-themed note, I am determined that my week working in Wales will be the most successful ever from a LC perspective. To that end, I am buying vacuum packs to take all my pre-cooked food along (apparently significantly extending the shelf life), before reheating in my terribly fancy lunchbox. Like Bear Grylls in a shift dress.

Also noting all the emergency supermarket offerings. Did you know that both Tesco and Morrisons do pre-cooked cheese omelettes? Omelettes, for the love of all things holy.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 14/04/2021 19:39

Much less tired today and no nausea so hoping the ‘lowcarb flu’ has passed.
Sleeping very fitful still with vivid dreams - is this also due to low carb?

I've had a look JimmyJabs and there's nothing in it! Truthfully, thought it was for cosmetic use or Turkish delight Confused

I’m actually on holiday in the Peak District. So not easy to follow super low carb, while picnicking with family, but keeping iit moderate and walking an awful lot.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 14/04/2021 19:41

Ps - thanks for the info re ‘bookmark’. In all these years never knew what that was for -could have saved hours trying to get back the point I last read a thread... Blush

Ninkanink · 14/04/2021 19:42

I think it’d be fine. I’d use it in @StuntNun’s mousse as well (I keep meaning to make that!), and in the hot chocolate mentioned earlier.

Ninkanink · 14/04/2021 19:42

@TeddingtonTrashbag some people do report fitful sleep/vivid dreams, especially to begin with.

I definitely had very vivid dreams when I stopped drinking (for the whole of Jan and Feb), so I wouldn't be surprised if it was to do with the lack of sugar.

Also had it (and the nausea) when pregnant...

50FootWave · 14/04/2021 19:44

Wow this thread moves fast - thank you to those who congratulated on the weight loss to date.

This WOE works if you follow it. No question!

Hope folk have had good days. I've struggled with 3l water today but did it, just. Halo

What have I said about holidaying in the Peak District?! Angry Grin

Pop in for an omelette if you like Wink

This was about the rose water.
Andi2020 · 14/04/2021 19:45

I can't access spreadsheet I have Google spreadsheets on my phone it says I need permission
Would love ideas of foods to eat.

Ninkanink · 14/04/2021 19:46

@Andi2020 check the recipe threads! Lots of great ideas.

nowlook · 14/04/2021 19:56

And try THIS LINK @Andi2020

Hughbert · 14/04/2021 19:56

Thank you Stuntnun for the info re PCOS, that will explain a lot! I shall do measurements, good idea.
BIWI I have read the vegetarian recipe thread and have lots of ideas. I am not doing well with enough fat, but I am trying...
Lunch - cheese salad with olive oil dressing
Dinner- mushroom stroganoff with spinach and leeks.
3 coffees, 2l water, moving onto mint tea now.

Moonswimmer · 14/04/2021 20:05

The bookmarking works! Thanks biwi!

B: two sausages and half a cucumber
L: avocado and chorizo salad
D: beef rendang that someone recommended unthread

3 coffees and almost enough water!

JimmyJabs · 14/04/2021 20:10

Thanks nowlook and Ninkanink. It was totally an impulse buy with no thought beyond "Oh, that might work in yoghurt maybe". I haven't tried it yet, might be rank, but I'll report back if it's ok.

Definitelymaybeee · 14/04/2021 20:12

Evening all. Feeling really privileged to have access to all of this knowledge, just wish I had something to offer! Been feeling totally wiped out today, which I didn't do last BC. I'm choosing to see that as a positive because I think I'm managing to follow the rules more closely this time.
Have to admit to one slip up yesterday when I forgot to take any food with me on a shopping trip with my daughters and ended up having a cappuccino for lunch (oops!), I completely forgot that I could send out a cry for help! At least I now know to head to M&S for sustenance.

Bestbees · 14/04/2021 20:18

@Hughbert for vegetarian fats you could use avo, coconut milk, jars of antipasti, olives, sesame oil, fried tofu. I find halloumi is good for something that I know is cheese but has such a different texture. We try to have a reasonable number of veggie meals a week, but can be a touch harder.

FusionChefGeoff · 14/04/2021 20:20

Oh my god -
Bookmarking!!?!???!!!!!

Mind. Blown.

Amazing invention making it sooooo much easier to keep up.

Having said that my brain is fried from a very intense work day so although I'm reading religiously I have no original thoughts left in my head to contribute Grin

I am on my 2nd period since starting and very pleased to report no sugar cravings or discernible PMT which we're getting steadily worse each month. Usual fatigue is a LOT better too and, although I've been genuinely hungry today (and not just bored!) I've had a great on plan day - just quite large portions!

B: half avo mashed with boiled egg and Mayo and chilli oil
L: salmon, asparagus and green bean salad with lemon and dill oil
Still hungry so hm cheese coleslaw
D: cauli cheese, baked swede, FLGV (courgette, cabbage, tender stem fried in basil oil with chilli and garlic)

Insane quantities of water (3L I think)
Double large tea pot of fresh lemon and ginger
Black coffee
Tea with unsweetened almond milk x 3
Herbal tea x 3

Early night for me after that day. See you in the morning!
