Welcome everyone!

Here, as ever, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness created and lovingly managed by the wonderful @AthelstaneTheUnready

Hopefully you should find that you're already on the spreadsheet - but if not, just add your name to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that for you. And don't touch the blue cells or try to enter any other data or comments!

For those that are new, each week I'll start a new chat thread, on Monday, and we'll start off with recording our weight.

However

You don't have to use your weight to measure your progress - and you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to be. Instead, take your measurements each week (bust/upper arms/waist/hips/thighs), or find an item of clothing that's just too tight/small right now, and keep trying it on each week.

The rules of Bootcamp are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - but here's a quick summary of the rules for the first two weeks:

  1. Eat three meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you're eating vegetables and salad with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy, apart from butter which is unlimited
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

Make sure you have a really good read of the spreadsheet for the full detail of the rules. Also, check out the tabs at the bottom - there's a huge amount of information that will really help you, especially if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

There's also a thread here of FAQs which should be helpful.

Some thread etiquette

The thread will move really quickly - especially at the beginning.

But please take the time to read everyone's posts, rather than just plopping on with your own comments/thoughts/questions. It's very frustrating when someone comes on to the thread to ask a question that's been posed and answered already!

Don't lurk!

I know that not everyone is confident about posting - and also that there are a lot of posters who are regular Bootcampers, and who know other Bootcampers. Please don't think this is a cliquey thread. It couldn't be further from the truth!

Everyone's views and experiences are welcome and valid, so jump in and post.

Any questions, please just post. Or PM me. There's always someone here who can help - and if I or they can't, then we can always find someone who can!

Above all, very good luck to everyone.

I very much hope that by the time we come to the end of these ten weeks, that we really are (as a country) completely ready to leave Lockdown well behind.

Wishing everyone all the luck Flowers

Gosh the thread moves fast. Had to be in the office today so fewer chances for a quick catch up! Loving the Cathy and Pam spat and the chicken Alfredo is on next week’s plan.

My M&S order arrived bringing trousers of truth - jeans a size smaller than the current pair. Inspired by the shorts pictures I have taken a photo and my bootcamp goal is to do them up Grin

nowlook · 13/04/2021 19:04

MrsKoala and FusionChefGeoff my little sister once famously ordered some products to make her hair grow faster.

She put Seek Help shampoo on the list.

mistywillow17 · 13/04/2021 19:07

Hi all, I'm taking a break from fairly continuous toilet trips to post. I found the info on why we need water/why I need to wee every 10 minutes really interesting, thank you.

I tried a new recipe today for a whole chicken done in the slow cooker - I used paprika, curry powder and turmeric with a bit of olive oil as a marinade, rubbed it over the chicken and cooked it on high for 5 hours - and it was just as tender and tasty as a supermarket rotisserie chicken, but without any pesky added sugars in the marinade. DH - who is not bootcamping - was so impressed he has requested we add it to the family recipe folder, so I'm feeling nicely smug.

Rats I've been downing water by the glass.

Knackered after stressful and draining day, after which I woukd typically pour myself a drink (I know). Fizzy water and lime is going to have to work extra hard tonight!

Option for my surgery on 8 June (8 weeks today) which gives me a big incentive (eeeeek).

VeryLittleOwl · 13/04/2021 19:18

Ooh, another one here who didn't realise you shouldn't glug water a pint at a time. My wee is always clear too, but at 3 litres a day I'm drinking the recommended amount for my weight.

Rayna37 · 13/04/2021 19:21

Really enjoying the thread! You can also tell its usefulness by how many screenshots I've been grabbing.

Thanks to a mention of green beans I just realised I'd forgotten to put mine on, saved in the nick of time.

"Land Training" RShard it's just so sad for serious swimmers like yours that these things even have name! Even a plodding breaststroker like myself has missed the pool but must be awful for the serious athletes. I know some friends kids who are county swimmers just over the border in Wales who still can't go!

B: 2 egg omelette with grated courgette, cheddar and cheshire.
Late morning snack of Emmental
L: mackerel in oil/creme fraiche and mustard with salad
D: cheeseburger pie and green beans

I first started making this on the October bootcamp after some skepticism and since then it's become a regular in the repertoire. Like prettybird I also add extra veg- a finely chopped broccoli stalk and green pepper tonight along with the mushrooms and shallots. Love it!

2 teas and a coffee all with whole milk and my water quota in chamomile tea and plain water.

TheHoover · 13/04/2021 19:27

Just done cauli mash (purée) your way @MrsKoala - blooming lovely! Sooo much nicer than boring old potato mash

LockdownLard · 13/04/2021 19:30

Hi All, I am on week 7 of the Blood Sugar Diet 800, and have been having two meals a day, combining it with intermittent fasting and only eating between 12 noon and 8pm. I mainly did this to get my blood sugars down, which has been a success. People are now starting to notice I have lost weight, and I have had to buy some work clothes a size down which feels really good, although quite a way to go to the healthy range.

Starting Weight: 259lbs
Waist: 126cm
BMI: 39.38

Week 6
Weight: 240lbs - total 19lb loss
Waist: 108cm - no change this week, total reduced 18cm
BMI: 36.49

My goal at present is to get to 189lb, 13.5 stone (started at 18.5 stone). I have downloaded a nifty little app called Happy Scale which tells me I am 27% towards my goal.

prettybird · 13/04/2021 19:32

As suspected, dh was nibbling at the cheeseburger pie. He was saying how nice it was cold - so of his own volition, hid it in the oven Grin

Am about to reheat it for tonight's supper. Mine will be served with plentiful shoogled sprouts while you can still get them in the shops Grin

Rshard · 13/04/2021 19:36

I might invest in a shewee teddington

Well remembered rayna! She’s glad to be back in the pool, it’s been tough. Hope the welsh swimmers are back soon.

[peers anxiously round the door]]

Hello lovely people, I'm a returner and sometime lurker Finally (sic) joining in. I've just caught up with the thread and taken notice not to lurk.

Waves to BIWI, Stuntnun, prettybird, @AthelstaneTheUnready** and everyone here really. Such a lovely thread already, thank you all very kindly.

I'm back on the waggon after using lockdown as an excuse to eat, well everything in sight. Started Monday and already feeling the better for it.

Weighing myself has often turned into an excuse for going off the rails so I shall use my waist measurement to track progress and then a certain pair of shorts when I get a bit closer to fitting into them.

Now that I have got going, I just don't remember why I ever let this wow slip.

BestIsWest · 13/04/2021 19:44

Ok day here.
B Boiled eggs mashed with butter and salt
L Tuna Mayo with lots of green salad r
D pork loin chops with a mountain of green veg
Plus Greek yoghurt and a small piece of cheese.
On my 3rd litre of water.

Been very good on the tea front - 2 mint teas, 1 coffee with cream and one tea with sugar free almond milk. Normally I have four cups of tea with milk by 9am.

BestIsWest · 13/04/2021 19:47

Can I ask about herb teas - I’m particularly fond of a licorice and peppermint one but I’m aware that it’s quite sweet. Is it allowed or should I avoid?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 13/04/2021 19:48

@FinallyHere!

I love a reformed lurker

It's allowed, but I'm sure there's something somewhere about not drinking too much liquorice tea - can make you extremely (hospital type) ill.

Will try and remember what it is.

FinallyHere · 13/04/2021 19:49

Apols it's a DM link - but first that came up.

Are you?! I'm also in the high 140s now and thought we were 2.5 ltrs.
ListenLinda · 13/04/2021 20:01

I’m going back to the office yippeeee!!
The kitchen and microwave is out of bounds so I need help from my fellow lovely bootcampers of ideas for lunches, that can be eaten cold, that isn’t always salad, please ? Grin

ListenLinda · 13/04/2021 20:09

@nowlook had the meeting just before finishing for the day.

Not clinically vulnerable no, I was anxious because it feels like a huge thing. We thought we were going home for three weeks and here we are 13 months later. I’m anxious as I don’t like being in limbo, I’m the kind of person who needs yes or no or to know either way. The Covid secure measures are fab and the area is deep cleaned daily.

Me & my team have been given special dispensation to go back the week of the 4th of May Grin but i probably wont be back until the thursday as DS is due to have his rescheduled operation on the 28th of this month and he can’t attend nursery until the catheter comes out a week later.

MrsKoala · 13/04/2021 20:18

Today has been

B- 2 fried duck eggs, 2 bacon rashers, mushrooms
L - lamb kofta and red cabbage slaw
S - slice of cheese
D - Hungarian Porkolt topped with a dollop of sour cream with roasted cavolo Nero and broccoli in olive oil.

The porkolt was very good. I had some leftover roast pork but not enough for a meal so I mixed it with a Hungarian sausage called Debreczner I got from the Lidl bargain bin.

fry off some shallots and garlic, add 1tsp each of caraway seeds, smoked paprika and hot paprika, add sliced sausage and cubed cooked pork (if using sliced raw pork belly then I’d brown it off before the onions and remove from the pan to add back now) to get tinged brown for a few mins. Add 1 chopped green pepper. Add 1 tbsp tom Purée stir round and add approx 1 pint of chicken stock and bubble away until almost all liquid gone and it’s a thicker sauce consistency. Stir thru some fresh chopped flat leaf parsley and serve with a dollop of soured cream and flgv.

nowlook · 13/04/2021 20:21

Oh that's good ListenLinda! From your original post, I was worried you were dreading it.

Now, obviously there's the thermos/ cheeseburger pie leftovers. BUT...
Do you drive to work?

This is £21.99. I've just ordered for trial purposes Wink

I sprinkled chopped cornichons over the top of my cheeseburger pie before baking it last time and it was scrummy 😋

Random789 · 13/04/2021 20:38

Thanks, @stuntnun for the dairy info, which was so helpful that I have cut and pasted it somewhere safe. And thank you @MarchXX for the remarks about coffee and cream. Actually, I've so far found it easy to leave out tea and coffee, except for one early morning cup. Perhaps actually eating proper meals reduces my psychological reliance on constant hot drinks. And of course i'm drinking more water too, which also helps.

I'm in the habit of ading a splash of apple cider vinegar to my water, partly because of the health claims made for it, but also because I love the taste -- very crisp and bright.

I planned to post what I have eaten today but I'm wary of rabbiting on into megaposts. I have this nagging feeling that I've eaten too much, just because I've had three square meals. But I'm pretty sure that is an illusion - the endless snacking that I usually resort too is probably more calorific.

I'm sure there are more people that I should thank for useful responses -- everyone is so helpful. I'm really grateful for every input I've had on the thread.

prettybird · 13/04/2021 20:40

I like peppermint & liquorice tea - and you don't need to worry about it tasting sweet as it doesn't have any sugar in it. When I have a box (at the moment I'm working through other herb teas as I had a plethora of boxes of different varieties) I'll drink 2 cups a day - but only using one tea bag as the 2nd cup re-uses the old tea bag Grin
