Morning all.

[[Here's the Spreadsheet as always

I hope everyone had a good week, and that any Mother's Day treats haven't messed things up too much Grin

So we enter our final two weeks. Still time to shift a couple of those pesky pounds - especially if you keep focused and stay strict. And a reminder, channelling my inner Shag, WATER, WATER, WATER!

Have changed the batteries on the scales and still can't get a consistent weight. Ranging between 10st 7.5lb, 10.4, and 9.5 (which is definitely wrong - think it's safe to say my scales don't work on carpet!)

Going to try and ignore the numbers for a while and just focus on exercise and eating well.

prettybird · 19/03/2021 08:26

That sounds a good approach Greebo Smile

Once you're back on a more even keel, going forward, find a spot where the weight is the same or nearly the same Wink each time you get on - doesn't matter if it's high or low, it's all relative. Use that spot for all future weigh-ins.

My current spot is in the kitchen, pushed up against the island unit and lined up against the edge of the unit. Once we get our bathroom done, I'll have to find a new spot in the bathroom, which will probably result in a new "base" weight. But at least I won't have to run through to the kitchenGrin, naked, carrying the scales.

nowlook · 19/03/2021 08:27

Sorry to hear you've had a crap week Jolly

I've got another attack of the can't be arsed's when it comes to work. Seems to happen once a decent invoice has been paid. Not hungry enough.

In other news, I need to find a pair of bedside lamps. No taller than 60cm. Preferably a bright olive green in there somewhere. Ideally a bit of chinoiserie thrown in for good measure. Translucent a plus.

I went on etsy and popped in my search criteria.
Etsy: Oh, we've load of lovely things for you!
Nowlook: Great! I really like the look of...
E: But just let me confirm your location first
NL: I'm in the UK
E: How bout this?

That Grin was supposed to be at the end of the sentence Wink

Mimosa1 · 19/03/2021 08:30

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal how old are your scales? Sounds like they may have packed in and/or the calibration bit (rather than the battery) has gone wrong - although I think you're completely right to not focus on the numbers for a while and I'm so pleased to hear you're feeling better.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/03/2021 08:55

They're maybe 18 months old?

RagzReturnsRebooted · 19/03/2021 08:59

@nowlook

For those asking about ice cream, I've just seen quite a few on the desserts recipe thread. It's lost its sticky, but there are some fantastic ideas on there.
I spent a very happy hour or two on there last night reading recipes then googling random ingredients and finding more recipes... I'm liking the sound of inulin now I've read about its prebiotic benefits and apparently they help sleep. Going to sneak some into the DCs!
StuntNun · 19/03/2021 09:06

Onelittlepiglet if you have underactive thyroid it's the sustained low carb that can affect your hormones (it lowers T4 to T3 cycling) so it's generally recommended to either keep your carbs slightly higher day to day or to have a higher carb meal once a week. If you're getting your thyroid hormones checked regularly then you'll be able to keep an eye on things. It can be more of a problem in people who are undiagnosed and then start to find they're cold and tired all the time.

Jollyholibobs if you're a vegetarian then it's fine to include pulses in your diet for protein. Have a look into it because some are lower carb than you might think.

It might be time to invest in new scales Greebo. Mine only work on a level hard surface so they're okay in the bathroom but don't read consistently in the bedroom where it's laminate flooring. I'm sure it's common for issues from childhood to cause a lifelong relationship with food. My mum was deprived as well, she said they used to have one chicken between ten of them so you got mostly rice with a tiny piece of chicken. She's very overweight now as a result of decades of overcompensating for her childhood.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 19/03/2021 09:13

Nice lamp, @nowlook - ordered a dozen, have you?

On the scales debate, the other option is to go to the other extreme and get an old-fashioned boingy set like mine. You know they're not going to be accurate, the numbers are so small you're not quite sure as you peer down what they say anyway, if you lean sideways a bit, the spring compensates...

... and the benefit is, that you develop quite a casual reaction to the number. If it's good, take it; if it's bad, it's your eyes/floor/spring/body tilt/you name it.

I'm quite data-driven as a person, and if I introduced all sorts of fat %ages, and decimals of lbs, into my checking, I'd not be in a happy place at all.

My parents went the other way - during the war they thoroughly absorbed the message that it was Not OK to have more than your Fair Share. Positive virtue to get by on the minimum. Eating 'too much' was morally disgusting.

They've got the hang of it by now, in terms of having a piece of cake with coffee, or a biscuit. But actual meals are still tiny.

StuntNun · 19/03/2021 09:50

Athelstane my grandparents were like that. I remember going to stay with them and dessert would be a Mars Bar sliced up between three of us! Shock

plumstone · 19/03/2021 10:00

Morning All - been completely MIA for ages - terrible ten days, put offers on on two flats, lost both, the first was by £10k - I can deal with that, the other by £1k which was more annoying - maybe I shouldn't ask what the final price was!!!

Anyway have since fallen into a weird depression about the whole thing and the shitty Offers Over concept that Scotland has for buying property - its sole destroying. Have eaten FLGV, meat, fish, just served everything with oat cakes - gone through about 2 boxes since last Wednesday - and a vat of wine, and gin which is now finished so, back on it today:

B - spinach omelette with mushrooms and cheese
L - Big mixed salad with Poached salmon
D - Steak, celeriac chips and roasted courgettes & broccoli

I will be cheery next week - I hate feeling like this - however I think I just needed to vent and be depressed to get over it - embrace the disappointment, then move on!!

ZiggZagg · 19/03/2021 10:27

Morning campers, sorry to everyone having a tough time Thanks

I'm back on plan and no carby cravings Grin

B was eggs and mushrooms on SLCR with lots of butter and a smidge of harissa
L will be egg mayo on lettuce wraps
D is steak and FLGV

Have a great day y'all Grin

NotwatchingSpooks · 19/03/2021 10:28

@plumstone Flowers hoping that the next ones to come along are even better.

I remember my dB buying in that type of environment many moons ago, it is indeed really tough.

Greebols hope today is easier for you.

nowlook all I can say is 🤩 to the cactus lamp, it is a statement piece

Have done my cycle, so am now on day 19 of the March challenge, weight stubbornly remains the same, but NSV even though I say it myself, I definitely look better for it.

BIWI · 19/03/2021 10:34

Well done for coming back, and being accountable though, @plumstone.

I always thought the house-buying process was supposed to be better in Scotland than England? Evidently not! When we moved into our house, back in 1988, I said after that we were never moving again as it had been so stressful!

OP posts:
prettybird · 19/03/2021 10:39

Bummer for you @plumstone Sad

When we got our current house, I believe we "won" by the "contents of a wallet". We bid something strange like an odd number of thousand (I'm not going to say how little we got half of a villa with a large garden in Pollokshields it would just upset you Wink - but it was 22 years ago Grin) plus £111 - just in case the person bidding against us put in the same number of £ thousands. (Iirc, we bid above the survey value but only by a couple of thousand - it was in the days before Home Reports).

Good luck with your next offer. Thanks

prettybird · 19/03/2021 10:47

BIWI - once the offer has been accepted, it usually goes through as the survey/hone report is done before offering - so no post offer negotiating and technically no gazumpimg/gazundering . The offer also includes a moving in date so in effect there are no chains. That can cause it's own problems, eg the need to use bridging or to sell before you buy or even rent for a short period.

Unfortunately elements of the English system seem to have crept in, and "Sold subject to concluded missives" is not always the 100% sure thing it used to be.

At least the Home Report system (a survey the seller has to do before they put the house on the market and make available to all potential buyers) means that buyers don't need to pay out for multiple surveys before they "win" a house. Although I'd still commission a more complete survey before making an offer fortunately not planning on moving Wink

plumstone · 19/03/2021 10:53

thanks everyone. Now we have Home Reports - which in the ones I have seen is around £20k over the Offers over price so :

Offers over £205k - flat needed gutting from the walls out, so it was cheap.
Home report Vaules at £225k - this is the amount you can get a mortgage on

West End of Glasgow requires up to an additional 10% over that.
I put in an offer of £232k. which then means I need 15% deposit of the HR value for the deposit, plus the 7K difference to take me to the price, and then because this is a second property an additional 4% of the price paid for what in Scotland is Additional Dwelling Tax - was brought in to prevent landlords buying up lots of flats in the buy to let craze.

Years ago when I was in London, for a variety of reasons, I bought a flat for my DF to live in, due to his age, its always stayed in my name, and I pay the mortgage on it. This means anything else I buy is a second home, and regardless of what I buy needs 4% paid on top of. I can deal with that, its the whole 10% over the Home report value that pisses me off.

KOKO!

LongtimelurkerL · 19/03/2021 11:04

Sorry to everyone having a stressful day - appreciate this thread for checking in though

Me today -
B - 2 x black coffee
L - A whole boursin cheese and celery Grin Blush
D - Garlic and chilli prawns (in butter) with guac and salad

nowlook · 19/03/2021 11:05

Flowers plumstone

I can't bear the thought of any kind of competitive auction for a house. I'm bad enough on ebay. If it's something I really want, I always put in an outlandish maximum bid (much more than the item would be worth) just to have peace of mind Grin

I'm with BIWI on this one. Never moving again...which is why I need the lamps, you see.

Although all of that sounds lovely, it's not actually much food, @LongtimelurkerL! Remember, this WOE isn't about deprivation. (And you should be eating more veg than that ... )

LongtimelurkerL · 19/03/2021 11:40

Yeah I know @BIWI what i'm finding tough is finding meals I can modify for low carb that my DD (5) will eat because i'm a single mother and don't want to create a load of waste! I'm eating to fullness - might add something else in this eve but not sure what?

Had a mound of leeks and asparagus last night - a whole packet of asparagus and a leek! Couldn't eat it all.

nowlook · 19/03/2021 11:43

I'm sure we can help you there Longtime!

What kind of thing do you normally do for DD?
At that age, mine suddenly transitioned to wanting everything beige Sad. And to think how smug I was that they'd eat absolutely anything when they were toddlers Grin

BIWI · 19/03/2021 12:14

You also need to make sure that you're getting enough protein - just veg on its own isn't enough!

What does DD like to eat? I'm sure we can help you Smile
