I rather suspect that a lot of us have been so far off the wagon this weekend that it's disappeared over the far horizon!

having to post on the spreadsheet may sober us all up, in more ways than one!

I hope any cheats were enjoyable. There's nothing worse than deciding to cheat and then not liking it.

But from now, it's time to buckle down and get back into the swing of things. If you did cheat, please don't complain that the scales aren't being kind to you. It's an inevitable consequence.

So let's focus on a really strict week, recognising that this is the end of our first half of Bootcamp.

Good luck to us all Flowers

Hello all.

I have been feeling rather crappy the past two days, worse this morning, my heart is pounding, especially when I stand up. I have read that this can be a side effect of ketosis early on.

I am drinking loads of water, and numerous cups of rooibos tea so I don't think fluids are a problem, or salt I'm having lots of that. I also take a magnesium supplement, so could this low potassium? I'm eating tons of green leafy veg and yogurt, do I maybe need a supplement. Could anyone recommend one I can order off Amazon to see if it helps.

I'm on day 6 of this and have been really strict carb wise so far, under 20grams a day.

Ninkanink · 16/02/2021 08:46

Sorry you’re feeling crappy! @StuntNun has posted a link to electrolytes supplement a few pages back.

ZiggZagg · 16/02/2021 08:48

@Sulusu sounds like you may need to up your carbs a bit, we don't count carbs on bootcamp but under 20 is very low and not really bootcamp iyswim? You could try Zero tablets on Amazon, they're quite good but I would try just upping your carbs to see if that has any effect Grin

CisMyArse · 16/02/2021 08:49

Sorry I can't help @Sulusu - I also felt terrible around the same time as you- keto-fluey. Hopefully someone more knowledgable than me will be around shortly.

I wanted to ask about water - I've been drinking it with a splash of lemons juice/slice of lemon or lime.

Would this affect weight loss?

I've also been told that cinnamon in water aids fat burning. Is there truth to this and would it affect ketosis?

Sulusu · 16/02/2021 08:51

@Ninkanink thx will have a hunt for those supplements posted.

MarmaladeTeepee · 16/02/2021 08:58

Well done on all those amazing NSVs very inspiring.

I was having a ponder about Lent (I'm not Catholic but work in a Catholic school and it's a really big deal amongst the staff) and I've decided to give up giving up. I've gained 4lb this week - I know it's all hormonal - bloody perimenopause - and I just need to KOKO but was feeling a bit despondent and a bit fuck it might as well have pancakes, but I've given myself a shake and I'm not going to give up this time. I'm really enjoying the food and not really missing anything so to give up would just be futile self-sabotage pulls up big girl pants with determined face

Ninkanink · 16/02/2021 09:03

@CisMyArse (Great name, btw!) lemon/lime in water is fine. Cucumber is also great for infusing, unless you hate cucumber! You can make cold tea infusions too.

Ninkanink · 16/02/2021 09:05

@MarmaladeTeepee that’s great and such an important psychological step to take! Hope you get your whoosh soon!

KOKO. Flowers to all!

Ninkanink · 16/02/2021 09:07

@Sulusu in the meantime have a cup of hot bovril/stock/bouillon. That should help.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling great, but this definitely sounds like carb flu.

The supplement I usually recommend is Zero by High5, but @StuntNun has one that she prefers. It might be in the last thread that it was referenced but it's a good example of why you need to read the whole thread!

Please don't count your carbs. You don't need to do that on Bootcamp, and we generally don't advocate that you stay as low as you have been as this is quite restrictive. You're also making it harder for yourself.

Slices of lemon and/or lime in water shouldn't affect anything. However, when you say 'a splash' it depends how many of those during the day - as it will all add up!

No idea about cinnamon. But that's pointless anyway - by reducing your carbs, your body will switch to burning fat quite naturally.

Don't be tempted by fads or 'wonder' things! Just focus on eating good, fresh, unprocessed food.

Thank you @Ninkanink

CisMyArse · 16/02/2021 09:24

Thank you @BIWI - will do.

Bestbees · 16/02/2021 09:25

@Sulusu second the bouillon drink it really helps.

I was starving by 9 so had lettuce, ham, cheese, butter and mayo in wraps. I am really working on eating when hungry, so will be interesting to see whether I need lunch, as we have dinner early at 5/6.

@MARMALADETEEPEE very sensible approach.

Ninkanink · 16/02/2021 09:26

Oh yes sorry! The link is on the last thread.

BIWI · 16/02/2021 09:26

A quick Google of cinnamon water brings up this

Note, first, the warning about raising blood sugar levels - something we don't want to be doing.

And note, also, that all the claims for its benefits are prefaced with 'may'!

Had some Bovril, will see how I feel today, thanks for the tips everyone.

BIWI · 16/02/2021 09:29

If it doesn't work, then I'd really recommend that you up your carbs today @Sulusu (which I think you should be anyway!).

2lbs down on last week; am hovering the same 3lbs up / down within a week and interesting to see the effect of what a bit of off plan does, which makes me a bit nervous when BC is over

My family tends to celebrate anything with lots of food and drink, and even in lockdown there’s been something - my birthday, dads birthday, valentines etc so something to think about there to make it sustainable and not miss out

venusandmars · 16/02/2021 09:32

I've got the last piece of swede and last quarter of a huge cabbage ready to make the swede, cabbage, cheese and butter bake. With some lovely slices of baked ham.

For Lent I'm giving up looking in dh's snack cupboard - that way I won't be tempted or envious Grin

@LittleMy77

Even when you reach your target weight, you have to be prepared for it to move up and down. It would be totally unrealistic to think you could stick only at one weight!

The important thing about maintenance is to recognise and allow this - so that you can celebrate things occasionally. That's about how you make it a true WOE rather than just a 'diet'.

For Lent I’m giving up Laziness and am going to start and finish 3 tasks/chores/jobs/goals every day.

I have no problem with ‘laziness’ morally - not a term I like because it has such negative and judgy connotations; I think life should be spent doing as much as possible of what you actually enjoy, which for me is chilling and just ‘being’, but I do need to live in an organised, clutter-free, clean and tidy space. So it’s a constant tension between the two extremes of doing nothing and doing everything (very much an all or nothing character, for better or for worse). I’d like to achieve a better balance.

We baked a sourdough rye bread yesterday using the baking kit I got for DH for his anniversary present. I’ll make him smørrebrød (Danish open-faced sandwiches) for lunch today, with smoked salmon, eggs and prawns, and he’ll have pancakes as an afternoon snack or possibly as pudding (because we don’t have milk or eggs atm so I need to go and do a quick shop this morning). I won’t feel deprived at all because i know I could have those things but I’m choosing not to because I don’t care that much and I’d really rather feel good and well in myself.

NotwatchingSpooks · 16/02/2021 10:06

Morning, dreadful nights sleep as a huge mirror fell off the wall in the middle of the night and smashed into tiny shards, all outside dd2s bedroom, so ended up having to hoover in middle of the night. Then I could not get back to sleep. So annoying as I was fast asleep before.

I really feel bloated this morning and am 2lbs up from end of week 2, I am really hoping that this could be water retention and that the whoosh will occur. I’m giving myself 1 more week and then if there is not a downward trajectory by then I am going to write everything down that I eat or drink.

I will have a look for a new recipe in one of my many cook books.

Today
B Greek yogurt
L soup
D roast chicken , flgv, almond pancakes

StuntNun · 16/02/2021 10:09

@Sulusu for potassium add a squeeze of lemon juice to your water plus a pinch of salt or Lo-Salt if you have any.
