Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - time to get rid of all the Valentine's treats!

I rather suspect that a lot of us have been so far off the wagon this weekend that it's disappeared over the far horizon!

having to post on the spreadsheet may sober us all up, in more ways than one!

I hope any cheats were enjoyable. There's nothing worse than deciding to cheat and then not liking it.

But from now, it's time to buckle down and get back into the swing of things. If you did cheat, please don't complain that the scales aren't being kind to you. It's an inevitable consequence.

So let's focus on a really strict week, recognising that this is the end of our first half of Bootcamp.

Good luck to us all Flowers

@ShagMeRiggins

Never put courgettes near water! They go soggy and tasteless on sight.

Instead, pan-fry them with sliced shallots in lots of butter and olive oil. I sometimes add some sliced red pepper as well, or occasionally some chilli. (Mind you, I put chilli or chilli flakes in almost everything!)

Pizza topped chicken tonight. The difference between mine & DH plates Grin

Lunch was a cheese omlette & veg. Then spent my lunch break moving my bedroom furniture around so DH can finish the last corner of painting before he goes to worl tomorrow. I’m aching all over tonight!

Stuntnun 5 pregnancies wow!!

cheeseisthebest · 15/02/2021 20:57

My mum used to boil courgettes! Yuk. I love them but not how she did them!

ShagMeRiggins · 15/02/2021 21:04

venusandmars I’m loving the swede recipe. You’ve all been great and I promise to learn to love my low carb swede.

WATER everyone!!! DRINK!!!

venusandmars · 15/02/2021 21:08

@ListenLinda no doubt about which plate looks tastiest! His looks anaemic and sad, yours looks vibrant, healthy, tasty.

Courgettes, I either spiralise for courgetti (flash fried), or grate and slow fry (as per tonight with peppers, pakchoi and duck). Or pat dry and have with eggs and shallot as a sort of frittata / rosti. Sometimes I make a sort of ratatouille thing but the chunks of courgette feel like a cross between slimy and uncooked.

ListenLinda · 15/02/2021 21:21

@venusandmars i did offer him some of the green loveliness, which he declined. Doesn’t know what he is missing!

DH always moans about veg and salad then sits drooling at my salads as they're usually covered in chorizo, olives and goats cheese!
I need to make pizza chicken.

Lyrata · 15/02/2021 21:35

I don’t know if anyone has seen the viral Tik Tok pasta - it’s basically oven roasted feta (a whole block) and tomatoes roasted until golden and delicious and then mixed with freshly cooked pasta. I sense it would be really good with courgetti - I think the feta would nicely coat the courgette. So I might try that as my recipe.

Also, I think people have shared the biscuit tea that Yorkshire do (www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/302275235?currentModal=amendExpired) but I found a hot cross bun tea today. Excitement abound.

@StuntNun five more than me!

nowlook · 15/02/2021 22:03

Fancy a bit of heat, so, in the spirit of adventure, I'm going to try to make a hake, celeriac and spinach curry. That's my new recipe of the week until tomorrow when I change my mind again

Meera Sodha curry recipe

venusandmars · 15/02/2021 22:06

@RagzReturnsRebooted yes, mostly for lunch dh chooses some kind of beige sandwich - pate, cheese, limp ham - with a sliver of cucumber or a drip of salad leaf. Maybe some crisps to got with it.

Meantime, I have yesterday's left-over veg: vibrant red pepper, leafy green spinach, some broccoli, spices all topped with a glistening fried egg.

dh looks on enviously. "Just left-overs from yesterday" I say...

1stMrsF · 15/02/2021 22:52

Up 0.6lbs and I'm OK with that - a week 4 pause followed by some weekend treats. Encouragement from you lot helped me get back on track today although I'm not doing very well with water and haven't for several days.
L - leftover sausages, braised cabbage and celeriac and leek mash (made for a roast chicken dinner yesterday, in lieu of roast potatoes for the low carbers, it was fab) with an egg fried in butter
D - meatballs cooked in spicy tomato and red pepper sauce, served with ts broccoli and topped with crumbled feta.

I'm totally up for the recipe challenge. I will enjoy some cookbook browsing tomorrow as I'm planning a half term last day due to the rain.

Re clothes what about wearing summer clothes with roll necks and warm tights under or similar? I'm not yet beyond just wearing a few things that fit, but they are fitting more comfortably.

Pandoraslastchance · 15/02/2021 23:29

Gained 1lb this week.

Struggling with the water intake.

ChristMyArse · 16/02/2021 00:36

BISCUIT TEA???

HOT CROSS BUN TEA???

WHAT ELSE AM I MISSING OUT ON????

I have a Sainsbury's shop due on Wednesday and I'm going to amend my order this very second! Thank you!

CaptainOmelette · 16/02/2021 05:37

Okay so I’m sure it’s written down somewhere but I can’t find it...does our “fluids” include hot drinks or not? In particular tea! I can get my 4litres drunk if I include all my tea (with unsweetened soya milk) but I’d pop if it’s 4litres on top. @BIWI would really appreciate your advice.
Today I have to go shopping, hate going as our supermarket is a) 20 miles away and b) a tiny Tesco Metro that is impossible to socially distant properly in, oh and c) has little choice. Ach well. Today’s food: L - poached eggs on portabello mushrooms D - boursin stuffed chicken breast wrapped with bacon, green beans.

*socially distance in

StuntNun · 16/02/2021 06:44

CaptainObvious all of your caffeine-free drinks and two of your caffeinated drinks count towards your water intake for the day.

Onelittlepiglet · 16/02/2021 06:46

@CaptainOmelette I think (and I may be wrong so apologies if I am!) that tea or coffee partially count towards water intake but only 1 or 2 cups. So anything after that doesn’t count towards it.

I’ve managed to lose most of the scales showed yesterday which is great! Feeling bloated and a bit rubbish but it’s TOTM so I’m not surprised. Fingers crossed I will lose the rest of it (and more!) next week.

Today will be v similar to yesterday but for dinner I’m having beef stew, green veg and roasted cauliflower.

I will look out my recipe books and see if I can find something exciting to cook and contribute!

CowGurl · 16/02/2021 07:45

After a bit of a Valentine's blip, I am back in my very familiar ping pong between 85 & 86kg. The way I can see this working long-term for me, is if I generally pretty strict (probably have another 2-3 stone to loose) but every 4-6 weeks have a purposeful (and very unmindful Grin) weekend off. We are rural and what we loved, pre-lockdown, was to head off to the big city once in a while and let our hair down a bit. Interested to see how long this blip takes to recover from. Was 85.1 on Sat morning, 86.9 on Monday morning and 86 this morning.

Great idea re:recipes BIWI I was beginning to feel quite 'meh!' about the meals that I normally cook, delicious though they are. Loving the ones posted so far.

This www.koreanbapsang.com/kimchi-jjigae-kimchi-stew/ is one that I will probably make next week. It's one of my favourite winter meals (though I generally prefer it without the tofu). We have some lovely Korean friends who gave us a ton load of kimchi for Christmas, so I am just waiting for that to sour ...

ZiggZagg · 16/02/2021 07:58

Good morning campers!

Managed to get 3lb of my 5lb gain off overnight so KOKO! Got some Zero tablets yesterday and the difference in my quality of sleep last night was amazing! No leg pains or arm cramps!

As an old SW (cough) pro, I'm really good at tweaking recipes for my own gain so will have a think about what I can contribute to @BIWI's challenge.

L today boiled eggs, mayo and salad
D Spicy beef with FLGV

AND WATER!!

VeryLittleOwl · 16/02/2021 08:05

Thanks, all - with our current temperatures in the Highlands (it's started to warm up a bit as of yesterday, but I still have wind speeds of 50mph today that I have to be out in) I'm living in jeans and many, many top layers, I guess I'm just sick of looking like a shapeless blob when I know underneath it all I'm not! Nearest supermarket that sells clothes is a 90-mile round trip away, but I'd completely forgotten about everything5pounds, so am off for a nosy there :)

Valentine's Day indiscretions have gone from the scales this morning.

Bestbees · 16/02/2021 08:12

Morning all.
In terms of tea I count herbal but not black tea to my count. I assume that's OK?

Woken with a sore throat so waiting to see how that pans out. Confused

Plan for today
B if I get hungry I will have ham and lettuce sandwich with butter.
L bacon and blue cheese salad with mayo
D sausage hash from the riverford recipe above.

Good luck avoiding pancakes everyone!

Bestbees · 16/02/2021 08:16

Ooh and thank you @CowGurlfor the recipe, that looks delicious and is going on my list of things to try!
