Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!

BIWI · 07/02/2021 21:30

So much chatting, I've had to start a new thread.

here's the Spreadsheet of Absolute Fabulousness

Remember, this week (like week 3) is notorious for seeing little or no weight gain, so please don't panic if the scales aren't moving for you - always assuming, of course, that you have been following the rules 100%!

Also, the Very Amazing @StuntNun has started a thread about fasting. Fasting isn't a regular part of Bootcamp, but it's a tool that you can use in your weight loss 'journey' (sorry for the cliché!)

have a look here, and think about if it's something you might want to incorporate into Bootcamp

I hope very much that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now; but as ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help.

ChristMyArse drink your minimum and don’t feel any need to drop the water. If you’re comfortable with it, go with it for now.

Hopeislost · 11/02/2021 23:35

@ChristMyArse I treat the water quantities as a minimum so I wouldn't drop it.

''I'd quite like Ragz' Dirty Fries to be my Bootcamp legacy''

In my mind they are legendary already!

BustleInYourHedgerow · 12/02/2021 01:19

Welcome @dreamqueen!

@kilojoules that's a great recipe to have, thanks for sharing! I'm also due my period this week. Feel headachy and hormoney. Crying at the drop of a hat. And eating a LOT OF CHEESE.

Ah @ninkanink I did. Thanks for replying. I added a big glass of wine. I didn't eat the carrot as I don't really like stewy carrots, prefer them raw or roasted. But wanted to add them for the children to eat.

Yes Ragz. Dry throat and headachy always when wearing PPE. And a cold sweat from wearing a gown uuugh.

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 12/02/2021 02:04

I still have to catch up but BIWI's low fat fromage fraise and Susulu's timing made me 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I bought a bag of avacados today from costco. Used 1 and omg it was perfect inside!!

Meals today
B. Fast
L. Leftover chicken, veg in nando's sauce
D. Leftover chicken, veg in nando's sauce with murdered avacado.

Snack: 3 baby bell

The photo was my dinner. Is that too much avacado? I don't normally eat much so not sure what counts as a proportion.

Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!
MrsOmelette · 12/02/2021 05:23

@Justcallmecaptainobvious roast pheasant wrapped in bacon, with a redcurrant sauce is very nice and that sauce would be easy to make LC.
Today’s food: L - cauliflower cheese, D - Shepard’s Pie

CaptainOmelette · 12/02/2021 06:23

@ShagMeRiggins

Your wish is my command. Sing away! 😁

LostaraYil · 12/02/2021 07:09

Wow, the valentine's meal plans look/sound amazing, especially ShagMe's pic. We're planning to have curry, which is my favourite, and I will make the chocolate mousse for dessert.

I've never used an air fryer but I have one sitting in a cupboard that was given to me ages ago. Can anyone give me basic instructions for how to make fries in it for dirty fries? Celeriac, obviously!
Today is going to be fat head pizza for lunch and dinner, with salad.
Roll on half term!

RagzReturnsRebooted · 12/02/2021 07:24

@LostaraYil I would preheat it while you prep your fries (see recipe thread) and then I had mine set at 180 I think and did 10 minutes, turned them/tossed them (I did one layer as it was one portion) and put then back in until they were nicely browning on the edges.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 12/02/2021 07:27

I haven't had my air fryer long, I bought it for Christmas hoping we could get rid of the deep fryer, but haven't managed to get potato chips to taste that good in yet so DH is clinging on the the deep fryer and we now have both in our tiny kitchen! It's actually really handy for the DCs to make quick lunches or reheat stuff. Great for crispy bacon, chorizo, chicken skin...
I do my crispy kale in it, takes less than 5 mins.

Bestbees · 12/02/2021 07:40

So much yummy food here!

I managed not to snack in the evening yesterday which is great, though needed an afternoon one. Shows me veg curry, even with plenty of oil, does not get me through. I did have a gin and sparkling water yesterday, prob stopped the snacking but not sure its better!

NSV my period started and I had had no symptoms. I had been a bit grumpy I guess but put that down to lockdown. No soreness or bloating at all, at least not that I could tell. However 1lb up on the scales again. I am considering dairy free lent... But its a long time! Traditionally in lent you can have it on a Sunday so it is an option. Would miss milk in tea but could do almond milk I guess.

Plan to for today
B nothing unless I get hungry, have packed a boiled egg
L mackerel mayo salad with oil
D burger, blue cheese, mushrooms and salad. Greek yog, maybe with a few berries (25g) Probably a gin and sparkling water.

StuntNun · 12/02/2021 07:55

Ragz I have both an air fryer and a deep fat fryer as well. The DCs like chips too much and the air fryer ones are nowhere near as good as proper chips no matter what anyone tells you. We also use it for fish fingers and homemade KFC for the kids, and DS1's famous chicken-fried-steak.

Yesterday's food:
B: egg in a cup (two boiled eggs mashed with butter), a cheese muffin, bone broth.
L: bacon, eggs and mushrooms fried in butter. I managed to get some of the green eggs shared upthread ages ago and they were very tasty with lovely golden yolks.
D: three roasted chicken thighs with courgette, feta and mint salad, kefir.

@ShagMeRiggins Ha! Love that Facebook post!

Trying to catch up the thread. Dirty fries sound amazing! May try a version at some point.

We are not really doing a special valentines meal either - we’ll probably do this recipe with chicken as it tastes amazing, but it might be useful for anyone with pheasant to cook! We just use chicken breast and adapt cooking times etc. Plus we don’t add the honey.... it’s so buttery and delicious!
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2010/dec/11/game-recipes-hugh-fearnley-whittingstall

I think if we get takeaway I might splash out on duck and not have the pancakes or sauce, but make some green veg to go with it. Might be safer than the chicken red curry if it has palm sugar in it.

Today:
B - Greek yoghurt
L - halloumi and avocado salad with lots of oil
D - steak and a pile of roasted cauliflower and buttery green veg.

LostaraYil · 12/02/2021 08:33

Thank you Ragz for the air fryer tips! I was going to get rid of it but I might get some use out of it after all!
It should have been Ragz' Dirty Fries of course!! Looking forward to trying them. Grin

prettybird · 12/02/2021 08:40

The roast pheasant dish I make at Christmas is Boot Camp friendly, with the possible exception of the few cranberries that are put into the jus/gravy at the end. I'll look out the recipe and post it on the appropriate recipe thread.

Ninkanink · 12/02/2021 08:41

@Onelittlepiglet crispy duck tastes lovely wrapped in little gem or romaine lettuce. It’s actually nicer with a sprinkle of salt and no hoisin sauce.

Oo thanks will try that! I have some little gem lettuces.

MaudesMum · 12/02/2021 08:53

No valentine's meal here, due to being a sad single, but I am going to see my "bubble" tomorrow for the first time since New Years Eve. A lamb tagine is being cooked, which shouldn't be too bad, I don't think, but at the moment I'm prepared to trade some weight gain for some human contact.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 12/02/2021 08:56

Treat of roast beef for us on Sunday. Usually avoid for it's high carbon footprint but oh likes it. Tories and tatos for him I will stick with the veg.

I've has a mini woosh this week so 2 lb down since Monday.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/02/2021 09:09

Tories? A balanced diet includes some labour, libdem, and greens with your tatos, surely?

Pleaseandthankyou · 12/02/2021 09:10

I am mainly following boot camp light with a bit of deviation at weekends. My goal is not to put any weight on. Any loss is a bonus. One pound off this morning. Bmi now in the 25s and the lowest weight in about 4 years. For those in doubt or stuck just give it time. I have a planned day of sheer indulgence tomorrow so we shall see what happens.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/02/2021 09:11

Had a sort of Chicken With Freddy last night - courgettes, chicken bits, olives, broccoli, bit of tomato sauce, loads of cheese, baked in the oven.

Have blown up like a balloon this morning, so wondering which bit of that is not digesting properly. Probably the effing cheese, isn't it. Sad

Ninkanink · 12/02/2021 09:17

@RagzReturnsRebooted thank you! I do like having a few pieces of Japanese tableware to set the table nicely.

Lyrata · 12/02/2021 09:20

I’m making tonkotsu ramen (sans noodles) for myself and my ex-partner while we wait to sell our flat. So I think I probably take the cup for unromantic Valentine’s Days.

I’m going to fast today out of guilt about that bloody brunost.
