Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!

BIWI · 07/02/2021 21:30

So much chatting, I've had to start a new thread.

here's the Spreadsheet of Absolute Fabulousness

Remember, this week (like week 3) is notorious for seeing little or no weight gain, so please don't panic if the scales aren't moving for you - always assuming, of course, that you have been following the rules 100%!

Also, the Very Amazing @StuntNun has started a thread about fasting. Fasting isn't a regular part of Bootcamp, but it's a tool that you can use in your weight loss 'journey' (sorry for the cliché!)

have a look here, and think about if it's something you might want to incorporate into Bootcamp

I hope very much that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now; but as ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help.

Love this thread! Has been a busy week so not had the chance to keep up in real time but you all made me laugh yesterday.

I'm in week 5 and have been feeling a bit disheartened because I've been fluctuating up and down between 85 & 86 kg for a couple of weeks now. Was hoping for a bit of a loss before valentines day as we have posh meal coming and I'm going to chuck myself face first into that so fully expecting to be working that off for a while.

However, I distracted myself by going up to the attic and trying on some clothes from my suitcase of shame. And they fit! Whoop! Also it turns out that if you wear a size 16 top when you actually are a 16, rather than an 18, it looks a hell of a lot better. I have a whole new wardrobe!

So focusing on the stone that I have lost rather than that stubborn kilo. Grin

I haven't weighed less than this for over a decade so telling myself that my body is adjusting to its new reality.

CowGurl · 11/02/2021 14:50

No where to wear it ... but a whole new wardrobe none the less!

nowlook · 11/02/2021 14:57

I'm a rampant ebay buyer @Oneborneverydecade. Spotted this and bought it on the spot as it looks Bergere-ish and will be ace in the new extension that hasn't started yet once reupholstered. I don't want to spend a fortune on furniture until the kids have fucked off Grin

@Oneborneverydecade sadly I’ve had to boycott both Waitrose and M&S, which is a shame as I really liked the food hall in the latter. We used to get the meal deal for valentine’s, always good value considering you get a bottle of wine as well.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do - our anniversary is on the 20th so I’m probably going to make us a nice meal to celebrate that instead. Was thinking maybe a takeaway but the credit card hasn’t rolled over yet so ideally we won’t put anything on it until it’s cleared. I’ve not quite got the level of mojo required to cook us something special, I don’t think, so ordinarily I’d probably just do something quick and easy like linguine with seafood but I obviously can’t have that now. I just don’t feel like cooking. Hmmm.

@ListenLinda if you’re hoping for a whoosh why not skip the creamy sauce - the steak will still be delicious without it! Garlic butter is all you need...

We’re going to have t bones for our anniversary and I can’t wait! I’ll make a Chimichurri to go with it, and some patatas bravas for DH, maybe some calamari and aioli too, in memory of our favourite Spanish steak house where we used to go when we were dating.

Ninkanink · 11/02/2021 15:03

@CowGurl whoop whoop for clothes that fit! And you’re right it always does look so much better when things aren’t straining anywhere...

KOKO! You’ve already made huge progress and the weight will fall off soon enough - remember those fat cells filling up with water and then melting away! Lots of water, lots of veg, lots of fat, and make mindful choices when you have your special meal. You’re right as well - it does take the body some time to navigate through ‘set points’ or whatever you want to call it, but it will happen.

Sulusu · 11/02/2021 15:05

I was on auto pilot earlier and started drizzling honey into my greek yogurt before I remembered. Only about half a teaspoon went in thankfully so I'm eating it anyway, as I'm bit low on alternatives until my shop arrives tomorrow.

CowGurl · 11/02/2021 15:16

Thanks @Ninkanink. Posh meal is Indian so most of it will be fine. Will avoid rice & naan. There is a pud, but it’s dark chocolate so shouldn’t be too bad. Am going to have some wine though! Having been doing full boot camp up until to justify (to myself) a couple of glasses.

Ninkanink · 11/02/2021 15:20

Oh that will be fantastic, I love a posh curry!

(Don’t tell @BIWI but poppadoms are relatively low in carbs so if you’re really hankering for something crispy to have with your meal then one won’t hurt)

Hopeislost · 11/02/2021 15:29

@Oneborneverydecade Yes please to the meal deals. I posted about the M&S one earlier in the week when I saw their menu. The Waitrose one looks good too, rack of lamb sounds yum but might have breadcrumbs etc. What did you get?

1stMrsF · 11/02/2021 15:50

Oh dear, Valentine's is fast approaching and I haven't done anything about it...In fact DH and I are having our special meal on Saturday as that's when we can get rid of the children for the evening, so need to pull my finger out. Ocado was selling their own meal deal (rather than the M&S one as expected) which was very disappointing (and carby), so I've still got nothing and if I want to order from the farm shop, I'll need to do it before noon tomorrow!
Limping through to half term here, I can tell we are nearly there as I'm finding everyone at work (school) irritating and the DC are melting down with more frequency... Still running around doing everything that DH does as well as what I do, so at 8am this morning I had already made a cauliflower cheese for the DC lunch!
L - I had leftover roasted veg & feta from last nights dinner with half an avocado and a hard boiled egg, hm salad dressing and some mayo
D - Lamb sausages from a farmer friend, with braised cabbage

prettybird · 11/02/2021 15:54

I'm going to walk down to our local fish shop on Saturday morning and get some scallops, king prawns and possibly some Dover sole.

I'll make some aioli to have with the tiger prawns. Haven't decided the rest.

prettybird · 11/02/2021 15:54

....that's for Valentine's Day. Smile

Lyrata · 11/02/2021 16:05

That sounds really nice @prettybird! I love tiger prawns.

And that’s a great victory @CowGurl! The proof is in clothes, not in what scales say.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 11/02/2021 16:30

Oneborn that is crazy to issue reports gow cruel. Our school has been very supportive we are so lucky.

ShagMeRiggins · 11/02/2021 17:07

Our Valentine’s Day meal arrived today. It will be eaten Saturday.

Chateaubriand, purple sprouting broccoli, beef croquettes (no idea what that means), and a beautiful bottle of Côtes de Rhone.

There’s also a dessert but I haven’t actually looked at what it is because I don’t care.

Will have a look at carb information if it’s provided, and make good choices based upon that. But hey—for £80 all in, that’s not bad. You could easily do £40pp at a Premier Inn restaurant or local gastropub.

MrShagMe done good I think.

My new Francoise Bernard book arrived today @prettybird All 800 pages of it and not a single photo Shock

I have five pages on sole Grin and like the look of this one. I'm obsessed with the "French Delia". Most of it is so wonderfully simple.

Forgot to mention it’s Surf & Turf, so some pretty prawns on top. Yum.

Will probably beat the pants off the meatloaf, salad, and celeriac chips I’m making for supper tonight.

Ps to StuntNun, thanks for taking the time to explain the alcohol sugars (sugar alcohol?) to me. It was a bit upthread but it’s given me something to think about.

I’m not worried about losing the sweet cravings, that’s never been my thing though I understand it is for so many.

Originally I switched to it years ago having read about the benefits to tooth health, especially gums. I felt the children could do with far less sugar and more pro-tooth things. But your information about insulin etc and potential issues was very useful.

Pps—no diarrhoea for me by the way, but I only ever use a single spoonful in one tea in the morning. That’s it.

WATER!!!

Oneborneverydecade · 11/02/2021 17:47

@Hopeislost apologies I must have missed your earlier post. Okay here goes:

Heston's chicken liver parfait 3.2g per serving (will serve with low carb bread)
Rainbow Side Salad
Garlic King prawns or tapas also lc

Honey & garlic pork shoulder 3.8g per 3rd(?!) with
Spinach Mornay 5.8g per serving
Plus some other veg

Profiteroles bought for DC
Possibly lc chocolate mousse for me

Beer for DH (I don't drink wine Shock)

I thought there were lots of lc main options but very few side options. I recognise it's not brilliant but it is an occasional treat

Any ideas what you'll go for?

MarmaladeTeepee · 11/02/2021 17:55

We always have a roast on Sundays so I'm going to attempt a romantic meal on Saturday even though we're sick of the sight of each other. I'm thinking surf n turf with some of Ragz's dirty fries on the side. No dessert as I have a massive sweet tooth and I know it'll just kick off all the cravings. I'm more excited about trying the fries than anything else, have a feeling they'll be the highlight of my week!

Oneborneverydecade · 11/02/2021 17:56

Thank you for the link @Bestbees

I had to Google Bergere @nowlook I really like the sofa and I'm in agreement about not spending whilst the DC risk ruining it

Great NSV @CowGurl

Everyones celebration meals sound delicious. @1stMrsF I'm jealous that you're able to get rid of your kids

BIWI · 11/02/2021 18:18

We'll be sharing our 'romantic' meal with DS1 Grin

We're having roast beef

As it's a special meal I'm also going to do roast potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding. and some other veg yet to be decided. I have some beef stock to make a red wine jus too.

There won't be pudding, although there will be cheese and very nice red wine (and some fizz to start with)

Dailyhandtowelwash · 11/02/2021 18:42

Ha! As I get to post immediately after BIWI's self-flagellation I will admit that our Valentine's meal is a meal from a local caterer who make my most favourite potato dishes in the world and I intend to have some. We are having (purchased by lovely DH) scallops, very posh Label Anglais spit-roast chicken with pommes boulangere and 'green veg', followed possibly by a dark chocolate tart - I am going to assess the darkness of it when I see it, and will leave the pastry.

My massive commiserations to those of you struggling with home schooling. Our schools remain open and it is saving my sanity. I would probably have left home by now if not (or they would). And so good to see some people seeing how the weight loss is benefiting them.

My period arrived today after almost seven weeks! I am waiting for half a stone to completely disappear this weekend as a result. ;-)

This week at work has been utterly insane with no time for lunches or even retrieving water when I run out. I'm not hungry though thankfully so don't mind the lunches - just don't like getting behind on water.

Dinner tonight is chili made with lovely fatty pork shoulder rather than mince, and FLGV. Also will have another Hotel Chocolat baton. Amazing how sweet 85% chocolate tastes at the moment.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 11/02/2021 18:51

Food today :

L: avocado, Scrambled eggs and cheese
D: Lamb stew with feta, large salad with cucumber and leaves on the side, with oily dressing.

Drank around 2l of water so far, will catc up later. Ialways drink a lot of water on nights anyway and wearing PPE makes me really thirsty.

Dreamqueen · 11/02/2021 19:15

Thank you for the welcome.
