Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

BIWI · 31/01/2021 11:40

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

Really bad news day here. Ending up far too anxious to eat, I’m going to simply concentrate on fluids and eat tomorrow. Hopefully.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 01/02/2021 16:13

@MrsOmelette and @Ninkanink I’m sorry you’re both having bad days. I hope things improve for both of you.

oscarandelliesdad · 01/02/2021 16:27

Flowers for you two @Ninkanink and @mrsomelette. Sorry you are both having rotten days x

Lyrata · 01/02/2021 16:33

Sorry @MrsOmelette - I hope that things look up soon.

Bestbees · 01/02/2021 16:55

Venus and HopeIsLost thank you for the potato advice.

For everyone struggling with STS or gaining I find it helps to list the other benefits of this WOE other than weightloss. I know this is primarily a weightloss thread but looking at the bigger picture can be a real help. Mine (0.2lb gain this week) are:

  • No night sweats (perimenopausal)
  • Clearer skin and face less puffy
  • No binge cravings
  • My coat feels looser
  • Slightly controversial and I'm not sure 100% scientifically proven but I've heard that sugar loves cancer. I lost my dad to cancer when he was really young and I'm so paranoid that I'll go the same way anything that stands a chance of fighting it is right up my street.
Pandoraslastchance · 01/02/2021 17:20

1lb on for me this week.

Today Lunch was lamb meat balls which was 11gm of carbs
Tea is salmon and salad with olive oil dressing.

I'm not drinking enough water I know that.

Oneborneverydecade · 01/02/2021 17:30

I can't remember who was discussing it but I bought some Kimchi in M&S today. 4g carbs per 400g tub. Yum

I also bought some peanut butter for my DH. I was shocked that the cheapest one was 90% nuts plus palm oil and sugar. I thought palm oil was a big no no but admit to being clueless

I thought I might start a 0 to 5k this month but it's still so so cold. Maybe next week?!

Pandoraslastchance · 01/02/2021 17:38

I've gotta be honest. I struggle with portion sizes. I could eat a whole bag of salad and 2 pork chops in a meal. I know portion sizes don't really matter at the moment but eventually the closer (ha fucking ha) I get to goal it will matter right?

BIWI · 01/02/2021 17:39

@pelosi

Peckish is still hungry though! So yes, up your fat. This is what I'd suggest, looking at your menu:

B: 2 eggs, either scrambled or omelette, with a handful of spinach or mushrooms cooked in butter

I presume you scrambled the eggs or fried the omelette in butter? You could also add a handful of grated cheese.

L: Cauliflower, spinach and tomato curry OR tuna salad OR chicken stir fry

With the curry, again start it all off by frying everything in oil; you could also add butter to the finished curry, or some cream or full fat yoghurt.

With the salad, a good sloosh of oily dressing (home-made is preferable) and/or mayonnaise - just be careful with mayonnaise as the carb counts do vary. Hopefully you fried the tuna as well? Or was it tinned? If tinned, choose one that's tinned in oil rather than water/brine.

Stir-fries typically don't use much fat, so you need to make sure you do add plenty! Fry with a flavourless oil, but when you serve it, drizzle well with some sesame oil, which will add flavour as well as fat. I'd also make sure that you use chicken thighs rather than chicken breast, as it's fattier

D: Courgetti with bolognese OR steak and fine beans OR lamb chops with cavolo nero

Again, frying in oil/butter, and dressing your veg with butter. Eat all the fat on your lamb chops!

@WellityWellityWellity

Meals here...(and hoping I have got it right)!

B: fried eggs, with spinach cooked in butter, parma ham and 5 x cherry tomatoes
L: pan fried chicken breast (skinless unfortunately, as couldn't get anything else yesterday), brussel sprouts steamed and buttered
D: bunless cheeseburger, gherkins, (will check label to see if I'm allowed), avocado and rocket with some sort of vinaigrette?
Drinks: tea and coffee with cream and, (I have been listening!), lots of water

All looks good to me! The only thing I'd change is the chicken - chicken thighs are a better choice than breast, as they are fattier.

Gherkins vary enormously, so do check the label.

@Pandoraslastchance in the words of George Michael you gotta have faith. It may seem impossible but if you stick with you can reach your goal. Until then eat a bag of salad and 2 pork chops if that's what you want

I've spent so many years being told that you can't eat yummy things and lose weight. I'm a savoury person, I'd rather have 2 plates of dinner than a pudding Blush

That doesn't sound a lot - and is a perfectly good low carb meal!

You will find, I promise, that your appetite reduces as you become fat-adapted.

Thanks BIWI!

ZiggZagg · 01/02/2021 17:59

Well DH has "surprised" me with an Indian- a chicken Jalfrezi extra hot with all the trimmings Sad

Would I be ok to just eat the curry with cauliflower rice?

Obviously I'll make myself something else if not and don't have to worry about his dinner tomorrow Wink

ZiggZagg · 01/02/2021 17:59

I've only had cheese salad on slcr for lunch if that makes a difference?!

flossiegrippiter · 01/02/2021 18:03

Hi @BIWI this is my first boot camp and loving it so far, I just wondered your history with it as I saw you said you'd been running it since 2012.
Were you originally overweight and used the method and do you constantly eat in this way or use it to get back on track etc?

StuntNun · 01/02/2021 18:05

Yes that sounds great. Maybe a bit of flour in the sauce but it should be fine as a one off emergency.

ZiggZagg · 01/02/2021 18:07

Oh thank you!!
I'm starving and was so disappointed looking at it, looking at me! May just have with FL salad instead of cauliflower rice!!

Grin
Ninkanink · 01/02/2021 18:07

I’d definitely go ahead and have the curry with cauliflower rice (or other veg) but I’d go very, very easy on the sauce as it will be quite carby.

Thanks for the good vibes, all! Feeling a bit better now.

@MrsOmelette, I’m sorry you had bad news Sad I hope things will look up for you soon.

MaudesMum · 01/02/2021 18:11

1 lb down, which for me is fine. Slow and steady! I'll be sticking to bootcamp in the week, and light at the weekends. I made two batches of soup at the weekend - one celery, and one spicey swede with a slight hint of carrot (I know I shouldn't have, but it was left over) - they're all in the freezer and I plan to alternate them this week for quick warm lunches.

Jollyholibobs · 01/02/2021 18:21

@MrsOmelette sorry you’ve had bad news. Flowers

Hi *@BIWI* this is my first boot camp and loving it so far, I just wondered your history with it as I saw you said you'd been running it since 2012. Were you originally overweight and used the method and do you constantly eat in this way or use it to get back on track etc?
I've been low carbing (mostly!) since around 2001/2 (can't remember when I first discovered it.

I was on a series of long-running low carb threads on MN, but realised that I wasn't really committing myself to it, with the inevitable result that my weight was going up rather than down! So I decided to create something that would be more structured and strict - and posted asking if anyone wanted to join in with me. I though maybe the people from the thread or a few others, might join me - but had 80 people sign up!

I had no idea what I'd started! Grin

I do mostly eat low carb, but do allow myself 'time off' - on holiday, or at Christmas or if I'm going out for a special meal. On a day-to-day basis, things like pasta, rice, potatoes and bread simply don't feature in my diet.

It's important to say, though, that what keeps me mostly low carbing is not just the weight, but the broader health benefits. I genuinely believe this to be the healthiest way to eat.
