Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

BIWI · 31/01/2021 11:40

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

Should add- I’m not stopping on Valentine’s Day- just decided I’d be allowed a treat/some alcohol then!

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 01/02/2021 12:26

That's interesting re the cancer. I have chronic blood cancer, and was drawn to this WOE partly because of the role refined sugar plays in inflammation.

Will have a read!

prettybird · 01/02/2021 12:28

I'm going to make some chocolate coated strawberries for Valentine's Day Smile

pelosi · 01/02/2021 12:32

Have you been reading any of my posts?!!!

Weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or no weight loss - sometimes you may even see a gain.

And I said this in my OP of this thread.

So the fact that you've lost even a small amount is good

I have been reading I promise! I thought the weigh in was for the end of week 2!

plumstone · 01/02/2021 12:47

1lb on here - not suprised: week 3, glass of wine on Friday, TOTM - all in all its a miracle its only one!!!

Weekend was good food wise - intro'd DF to Cheeseburger pie, seemed non plussed about it, however I've just been to the fridge for lunch (was planning leftovers of it with salad) there is a small slice left!!!!! We had a quarter each last night for dinner!!!! When questioned he says "oh yes its quite nice reheated for breakfast - and as there is not enough for dinner tonight, I've got more mince out the freezer for you"!!!!!!!

ITs fine, breath, had smoked salmon, small slice of aforementioned pie, celery, and some spinach, eaten on the hoof, as work is a bit stressy ATM.

@AthelstaneTheUnready please can you add my 1lb to the spreadsheet please.

have a great day everyone.

Comparison really is the thief of joy. There's an AIBU atm from a poster who has lost 4st in 4 months following low carb and if. She's gone from an 18 to a 8/10. I've lost 4st and I'm still wearing the same skinnyjeans! I think I'm a size 14 at the least.
(the poor woman needs to ditch her DH)

ouchmyfeet · 01/02/2021 12:50

That's so true @Oneborneverydecade . I'm trying to focus on me and not being jealous of those of you who are close to their targets.

Pleased with a 4lb loss this week, hoping I can keep it up at an average of about 3lbs per week, which should be achievable given my high starting point. Next goal is getting below 300lbs, hopefully next week.

StuntNun · 01/02/2021 12:51

Lyrata 50-60g of carbs is low carb so you will be burning fat. A standard UK diet has around 300g of carbs. Some people can tolerate a higher carb intake than others. If you're losing weight then there's no need to make any changes. If you're worried then reconsider your portion size. A courgette is low carb so a whole courgette is fine. Onions and tomatoes are higher carb so a smaller portion might be better. Mushrooms are absolutely great as they're virtually carb free and you can add lots of lovely fat in the form of butter and/or cream to them.

Omg yes! Her husband sounds awful! She looks amazing. Hope she dumps him.
Primitivo · 01/02/2021 13:06

Morning all, STS here, but week 3, so to be expected, trying to be grown up about this now. I've followed most principles for foods I've eaten, but need to tighten up when I'm eating them. Too much foraging, not enough planning for proper meals. I'm going to make a concerted effort to eat properly at meal times and not in between. So, today might be...
B: 2 x cups of tea
L: courgetti w bolognese + lotsa Parmesan
D: chicken soup + yog 

"Where's the veg?

And how much water?"

Hi @BIWI ! Ended up having chicken noodle soup with kids for lunch, swapped out their noodles and had shredded cabbage instead. Also edamame 3.9g (hope that's ok?) put some sesame oil on, but not enough fats still, feeling hungry, so might have an egg and butter chaser!

Dinner will be courgetti, bolognese sauce (w aubergine and courgette in it) and large green salad. Feels like good amount of veg

Hitting 2.5-3 L of water a day, thanks to gyration app (HAHA, should say hydration app!) on phone and watch. Total game changer.

Afternoon all!

I bring you vanilla news!

The Taylor & Colledge fancy extract recipe has been reformulated; it is now sugar-free; retailers are now in the process of updating websites. Glug it if you like! Grin

Hopefully, your contact says the same @BIWI

BIWI · 01/02/2021 13:31

Sorry @pelosi Blush

Getting carried away by so many threads - feels like we must be in week 4 by now!

What have you been eating/drinking over the last few days?

She wasn't really low carbing - she was more calorie counting. Sounds like she was doing something more like the Fast800 diet - 800 calories a day, and lower carb foods. Along with a lot of exercise!

I'd forgotten all about the vanilla! Haven't heard back from my contact yet (although perhaps not surprising - he's a bit fickle and now I'm not working for him he probably just junked my email)

Thanks StuntNun! I just revisited the carb counter and onion is much worse than the others. I might cut down on that or switch it to fennel, which I like just as much and gives that slightly piquant taste.

Mushrooms I adore! But I like them fried rather than roasted so they never end up in the mix! Buttered fried mushrooms are one of the best foods in existence.

@nowlook well done! I’m so pleased to hear that. Thanks for taking the time to chase them down. Hopefully more things will cut their sugar out!

1WayOrAnother2 · 01/02/2021 14:42

Whole chicken roasting in slow cooker (for 6 hours on low) again today. To be served with buttery cabbage and whipped cauli/cream mash.

What worked last week:
Softened butter inside the skin on the breast - with some sage leaves
Olive oil on outside of breast skin - with sea-salt
Slices of chorizo on top (to brown the colour and add taste)

Whole shallots and sage leaves and melted butter in body cavity.
(No time for stuffing today)

Standing of a trivit of root veg (for family) and shallots and garlic.
1/2 mini bottle wine in the base

I will put the carcass and more veg and the giblets back in the slow cooker tonight to make a wonderful broth for tomorrow.

The dogs will be nervy about intruders tonight :)

Sorry *@pelosi* Blush

Getting carried away by so many threads - feels like we must be in week 4 by now!

What have you been eating/drinking over the last few days?

No worries!

B: 2 eggs, either scrambled or omelette, with a handful of spinach or mushrooms cooked in butter
L: Cauliflower, spinach and tomato curry OR tuna salad OR chicken stir fry
D: Courgetti with bolognese OR steak and fine beans OR lamb chops with cavolo nero

Snacks: Brie cheese, olives, cucumbers, home made coleslaw, Greek yoghurt (10%)

BIWI · 01/02/2021 15:42

@nowlook

I've also had confirmation from my ex-client! It no longer has sugar, so their marketing team is contacting the retailers to get the website info changed.

@pelosi your meals look fine - but your protein choices seem to be lean, so you do need to make sure that there's plenty of fat in the dishes. And also, by this stage, you shouldn't be feeling the need to snack. Are you snacking because you're hungry? Or out of habit? If the former, then definitely a sign you aren't eating enough fat.

OP posts:
pelosi · 01/02/2021 15:45

Thanks BIWI

I’m snacking because I’m peckish rather than hungry.

What is a good way to get some fat in my dishes? I’ll cook with butter from now on.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 01/02/2021 15:50

Meals today here:

Lunch: scrambled eggs with a giant Portobello mushroom cooked in a shedload of butter with wilted spinach and two rashers of bacon

Dinner: pork, taleggio and broccoli lasagne made with leeks

One creamy coffee

Sooooo much water. I do have nice satisfying wees at the moment!

@Ninkanink I did try the coffee with butter and cocoa yesterday. It remains a no I'm afraid!

Bestbees · 01/02/2021 15:59

Thanks for all the guidance, I lost my earlier thank you message! I am hungry now again so will def up the fat again. Will eat a boiled egg and mayo to keep me goingtil dinner.

My chant shall be fat, fat, fat!

WellityWellityWellity · 01/02/2021 16:00

Meals here...(and hoping I have got it right)!

B: fried eggs, with spinach cooked in butter, parma ham and 5 x cherry tomatoes
L: pan fried chicken breast (skinless unfortunately, as couldn't get anything else yesterday), brussel sprouts steamed and buttered
D: bunless cheeseburger, gherkins, (will check label to see if I'm allowed), avocado and rocket with some sort of vinaigrette?
Drinks: tea and coffee with cream and, (I have been listening!), lots of water

Ninkanink · 01/02/2021 16:03

@Dailyhandtowelwash Grin I really didn’t mean to strong arm you into trying it again! Ah well, at least now we both know for sure... Wink

I’m feeling grumpy, antsy, frustrated and annoyed this afternoon. Off the wagon I’d be looking to eat those feelings away with lots of bread and butter or cheese. But I’m going to have a bath instead and just wait for the feelings to wash over me and be gone again.
