Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

Maybe I need some of that seriously strong cheddar and not just mature...

BIWI · 04/02/2021 10:28

Very jealous that you've got a celeriac @MilesJuppIsMyBitch!

I'm arguing with myself about going to the supermarket today, just to see if I can find one! Keep telling myself that one celeriac does not make 'essential shopping' but then on the other hand, surely it is?!

@Ratherchillyinhere I wonder, if you thought it was too eggy, if 2 eggs would work better for you? Or maybe you used large eggs? The recipe doesn't specify egg size, but I usually buy/use medium eggs, so that might also make a difference.

@BIWI There's no label on the sliced Angry
But here's the seed bloomer.

I haven’t read the nasty AIBU thread but I might do so this morning and might find myself posting with righteous indignation on your behalf!

Come to think of it, I’ve got a lot to do today and sometimes I find that being angry really galvanises me! Grin

Ninkanink · 04/02/2021 10:35

@BIWI don’t know if you’re near to a Morrison’s but ours had loads of celeriac last time I went in a few days ago. I guess it could be a regional thing, though.

BIWI · 04/02/2021 10:35

I love plastic cheese. Actually I love all cheese, and I know that plastic cheese is the work of the devil, but there's something about that taste that I really like.

I make my own version of a McMuffin with this!

  • two rashers of smoked back bacon, with the 'tails' cut off, so that you can stack the four pieces on top of each other
  • a fried egg, fried in a metal ring so it stays round
  • while it's finishing cooking, add said plastic cheese on the top
  • serve with a dollop of American mustard and some sugar-free ketchup on top

With some low carb bread, or in one of the Seriously Low Carb rolls this would be even better!

And there is a full nutritional deck on the website for the other one here:

Per 100g as you suspected.

BIWI · 04/02/2021 10:36

We have got a Morrisons here, so I might try that. We're also having duck tonight, so a celeriac would, surely, be an essential companion?

Please could I have the link to the low carb bread?

Ninkanink · 04/02/2021 10:37

Definitely essential!

BIWI · 04/02/2021 10:37

Thanks @nowlook - I had found that page, just didn't scroll down far enough to see the nutritional info! (One of my bugbears about websites is the need for scrolling. All the info should be enclosed on one screen, surely?!)

Seriously Low Carb bread

I love this - it's expensive, especially when you add the postage, but it's just like real bread. It's great to be able to just bung a sandwich together at lunchtime. It's high protein so it's also filling.

Ninkanink · 04/02/2021 10:41

Thank you! Yes I’m sure the price is worth it. Sometimes you really do just need a bit of bread.

nowlook · 04/02/2021 10:42

That's weird- pic is showing on the app but not on the desktop Confused

I will of course update later with reviews. In the meantime, the recipes yield nothing new for BCers apart from (perhaps?) this "tuna-melt":

Put a tin of tuna, 1 egg, 1 tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar, 1/4 tsp of Bicarb in a 10cm/10cm microwavable container. Mix thoroughly with fork or hand blender. Microwave for 3 mins. Tip out, top with sliced cheese and spring onions and grill until cheese melts.

The bicarb makes that interesting for me. I've only ever used it in cakes and honeycomb Grin

Ninkanink · 04/02/2021 10:45

Does anyone know if the low carb bread freezes well?

nowlook · 04/02/2021 10:46

Yes, Nink. Fortunately!

Ninkanink · 04/02/2021 10:50

Perfect!👍👍

BIWI · 04/02/2021 10:55

The Seriously Low Carb bread comes with an instruction to store it in the freezer.

Oh that’s brilliant, I think I’ll go ahead then!

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 04/02/2021 11:05

I splashed out on a Riverford box BIWI. I'm spending so much less on milk that I can afford it! I am a milk monster.

Ninkanink · 04/02/2021 11:08

We get our veg from Riverford. Always found them brilliant.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 04/02/2021 11:11

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch I too did 5:2 (the fasting part) for quite a while but stopped losing after a month or two as I was just using it as an excuse to eat really badly on the other days! If you do it properly, you do a nice Mediterranean diet... I still do fasting on and off as my body finds it easy to adjust to, often I don't have breakfast and don't eat late so I do short fasts without thinking about it.

@BIWI I did have 3 celeriacs yesterday Blush, but I cooked one last night.

ListenLinda · 04/02/2021 11:22

Morning all. Had some absolutely shite news this morning, feeling very down in the dumps today.

To combat DH is making his famous burgers tonight. What can I use instead of a burger bun, oh wise people of Bootcamp?
Might just have it totally without tbh honest with fried onions and cheese.

Almahart · 04/02/2021 11:32

@Lyrata I so identify with the sadness at finishing a project!

I absolutely love knitting but at a period of great stress a few years ago I developed RSI and so now can only knit in very tiny bursts. I do the odd pair of fingerless gloves or hats for friends but I really miss a big project
