Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

BIWI · 31/01/2021 11:40

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

Oh and to put it into perspective I used to get so "hangry" that my DH was known to shove a biscuit into my mouth - before we discovered Bootcamp that is. Now I'm 49 hours into a fast and feeling fine, not hungry and ready to break my fast tomorrow at lunch.

Any none or low calorie drinks such as herbal tea are okay during intermittent fasting. It's only for extended fasts over 24 hours that it's best to have no calories at all. That said, the fasting guru Dr Jason Fung allows bone broth or creamy coffee or bulletproof coffee during extended fasts because he thinks it's better to have one of those and maintain the fast than to have to break it early and eat. They're like training wheels for a bike... eventually you won't need them any more.

Hi everyone
Did join from day 1 but was taken out by Coronavirus.
I'm just a day behind @CatVsChristmasTree so will be interesting to track our progress together.

Planned meals for tomorrow are:
B: Greek yoghurt and cream
L: cheesy omelette
D: Lamb meatballs, green veg and low carb wrap

Will update the spreadsheet tomorrow

Thanks you @BIWI for all your advice and commitment to this cause.

Definitelymaybeee · 02/02/2021 20:31

Evening all. I've decided to commit to posting my food every evening because I keep finding myself lurking!

Breakfast (more like brunch as didn't feel hungry until 10.30) - Greek yoghurt, cream and a teaspoon of almond butter
Lunch - mushroom soup with added coconut oil
Dinner - courgetti cooked in butter with quorn mince bolognese and lots of grated parmesan (I know it's not ideal but as a veggie I'm having quorn once or twice a week)
1 x builders tea, 3 x herbal tea, 4 pints of water

Now I'm off to find a pair of earrings!

prettybird · 02/02/2021 20:38

I made cheeseburger pie last night and we had it again tonight (I had it with shoogled sprouts both nights). Enough left for two small portions to go in the freezer.

I made a mistake which I'd instinctively half rectified: had a kilo of mince (to which I'd added a mush of finely food processed mushrooms, shallots, leeks and carrots) but I didn't double up the cheese topping Blush Fortunately I didn't think it looked enough and had increased it by a third (ie an extra egg, cheese etc) and I'd already added extra Worcestershire sauce to the mince). It was only after I'd put it in the oven that I realised the recipe was for 500g mince Grin

flossiegrippiter · 02/02/2021 20:38

I keep reading it on here..what is cheeseburger pie?

BIWI · 02/02/2021 20:40

The recipe has been posted several time, @flossiegrippiter!

Hang on and I'll find it again ...

Re training on fasting: I do 16:8 every week day (roughly 8pm or later through to noon or later) and on 4 of those days I do the Shred or Ripped (and, when I'm in running mode, go for a run I'm not running at the moment Wink) DVDs in the morning, ie towards the end of the fast. I always feel like I have plenty of energy Grin

Last week I even did Level 3 of the Shred in the morning of the end of a 36 hour fast! Shock To be fair, that day was the middle of day of doing the DVD 3 days in a row (at my age, I've read that it's actually better for me to have recovery days), so I was using smaller weights and deliberately didn't force myself. I still felt good doing it though. Smile

I could have continued the fast for longer but I'm following Stuntnun's advice and building it up. I'd already semi-planned to do an extended fast roughly once a month so I'm glad to read that that is a good idea Grin

I keep earrings in my ears every day Wink

Could someone also tell me the meaning of KOKO?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 02/02/2021 20:52

Mmmmm, asparagus... my best is steamed asparagus, 2 or 3 stalks wrapped in a slice of ham, x 4, lined up in a dish, covered in bearnaise sauce and baked for 10/15 mins or so. I'd probably butter the ham these days before rolling the asparagus up in it.

I say 'probably' since asparagus is not going to make it to the village shop. However... I finally put some crowns in last year, so it will be asparagus heaven at mine next year!

AWryGiraffe · 02/02/2021 20:52

I've put on a couple of pounds overnight - think bloating from my period so I'm choosing to ignore it and KOKO. I've lost 16lbs, albeit slowly, since doing low carb and I will get there!

Doing accidental intermittent fasting as I never feel hungry/have time for breakfast and we eat when the toddler eats so all done by 5.30/6pm - so most days we eat between 12-6.

Lunch was raw spinach and cucumber, with fried mushrooms, half an avocado, a handful of feta and some Mayo. Dinner was half an aubergine fried with garlic and chilli, asparagus, pak Choi and flat mushrooms baked with cheese. Yum! (No quorn today Biwi.)

Tomorrow I'm going to attempt celeriac and leek mash! I've never tried it and OH is dubious so I hope it's nice.

LostaraYil · 02/02/2021 20:57

My first go at making cheeseburger pie today and it was delicious! I think it will be even better cold, will have it for lunch tomorrow. Very filling. I did have lots of pak choi with it.
Lunch was an omelette with shallots and tomatoes. No snacks today apart from creamy coffee, so I'm feeling back on track after a few dodgy days.
@kilojules I get keto insomnia and it really sucks. This time round I've been having magnesium and 5htp supplements before bed most evenings and the insomnia hasn't hit me yet so maybe it's working.

@BIWI

Welcome back *@CatVsChristmasTree*!

(And no, lots of black coffee doesn't count towards your water)

Drat. I had a feeling you were going to say that! I shall not question it, though. I must change my name back, it was only changed for Christmas.
prettybird · 02/02/2021 21:03

KOKO means "Keep on Keeping On" Smile

I bought this almond flour a while ago - but I'm sure I didn't pay that much Confused I've only used it occasionally when I think that the extra fine-ness is required. Most of the time - like Nigella's flourless chocolate cakes - I just use ground almonds, that I buy at the local Asian supermarket.

Your meals always look beautiful @Lyrata! It's good to see the cheeseburger pie in the flesh @BIWI.

For those of us who have limited culinary potential/limited time/three different meals to prepare for various members of the house, I had the cod recommended by @pinkpinkeverywhere up thread for lunch and it was delicious. For supper, I went with the easiest possible item from the chicken recipe thread: 1 tbs spoon mayo; 1 tbs grated parmesan; pinch of garlic powder; s&p. Mix together and put on a chicken breast. Bake until cooked. Served with buttery, salty cabbage. 2 mins prep and was in the oven at the same time and for the same time as the nuggets Wink

cheeseisthebest · 02/02/2021 21:06

Keep on keeping on! I think?

I know it's been posted before but how do you do shoogled sprouts? I will save it this time!

anewdispensation · 02/02/2021 21:16

I am really enjoying this and even though I am not weighing weekly duet to tendency to fixate on the scales, my clothes are noticeably getting loser and my face has lost the bloat which is great.

@BIWI thanks for the seriously low carb bread roll and loaf recommendation. I prefer it to normal bread as I am not a huge bread eater and I honestly can't believe this is low carb bread... it is so lush.. even the kids love it.

Is anyone else exercising and finding that working out is making them more hungry? This is the 1st time I am combining this WOE with working out and I find I get hungry after my workout even after eating my fats and proteins and drank my 3.5L of water... how do I combat this and why do you reckon this is happening... I don't want to jeopardise my progress and I am mainly working out for the mental health benefits..

Thanks @BIWI I've added this to my newly discovered app (trying out the free version but I'm liking it so much I think I'm actually going to pay the £7.99 for the full version) Recipe Keeper. It occurred to me earlier (after seeing the excellent Butter Chicken recipe posted) that I really need a way to save recipes I see online, rather than hoping I will remember. Assuming there must be an app for that, I found an article reviewing many of them and picked one to try out. You can add by page link and it will import the recipe and autofill all the sections for you, you can do the same with a photo or screenshot (which I just did) and when you've told it which parts of the image are ingredients, directions etc it formats it all for you. You can sort recipes by category, it's very user friendly - I think I'm in love with this app!

Others are available and I'll link the article here in case anyone is interested www.groovypost.com/howto/9-best-online-recipe-organizers-to-replace-your-cookbooks/ as there are many to choose from and some are free. I feel the price is worth it for this one as I'd pay more than that for a book.

Oh, I changed my name as the cats are no longer attacking the Christmas tree.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/02/2021 21:49

Evening! I've got a bit lost with all the chat, but have read all of it. I hope poorly people are feeling better, and Thanks to those who've had bad news.

I went though the keto products thread earlier, and have ordered some lo-dough and some keto-friendly flour. I really miss baked good with lots of butter for weekend breakfasts, so that's what they're for, really. Will report back!

B: yog & cream, creamy coffee, builders tea
L: two fried eggs, FL salad, red pepper, handful of blueberries and cream
D: two lamb chops, seasoned, seared in the pan then popped in the oven for a bit, with roasted shallots, courgette and mushrooms. (Then a lump of cheese, as I was still peckish).

Mixitupalot · 02/02/2021 21:58

Evening all, it’s taken me ages to catch up on the thread.
Well done on the losses and koko for everyone else, we can do it!

I’ve stayed the same weight this week, I think I have been eating too much cheese. I had a lot of cheese everyday for lunch last week along with my salads so this week I’ve cut it out.

I’ve been so lazy this bootcamp, I’ve literally not moved off the sofa. Last time I was walking 15/20k a day & running. Cannot be arsed, Anyone else the same?

nowlook · 02/02/2021 22:09

Oh yes @Mixitupalot. Sign of the times.

Was browsing eBay for a corner sofa. Saw this listing and thought it might cheer some of you up. I mean, what is wrong with these people? Grin

RagzReturnsRebooted · 02/02/2021 22:11

@Mixitupalot I too am being a lazy layabout (when not working). I don't think I have actually been for a walk in weeks. NdN and I have promised to walk together, after we tried C25k again but she found the cold air set off her asthma so we will just walk for now. Just keep putting it off. I'm working a lot more hours than usual and just feel really tired, but hoping this WOE will re-energise me soon! It isn't just me, the whole family are becoming very housebound and lazy and also not getting up until late (I leave too early to wake them) and I really need to kick us all into action.

Mixitupalot · 02/02/2021 22:28

@nowlook omg that hilarious 😂 😂

@RagzReturnsRebooted I don’t know if it’s because my hours at work are cut down to one day a week the rest of the time I literally do nothing. Before I was working/running/walking/housework etc etc and never stopped. Maybe I am in hibernation.

It’s tough trying to balance all of those things, just be kind to yourself. Yes my kids are the same although I do have teenagers so never leaving their bed seems normal enough atm.
