Low-carb bootcamp

Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - the lucky 7

BIWI · 23/11/2020 08:58

... no idea why 7 is supposed to be lucky, but let's hope it is for us!

Here's the Spreadsheet

If you haven't visited the spreadsheet for a while, or really had a good look at it, can I suggest that you have a good browse of it now? There's lots of really useful information there.

Why do I suggest that? Because it's easy to get complacent or to lose enthusiasm this far into Bootcamp - but yet we still have 4 weeks to go, so it's important to hold your resolve.

Hopefully the scales (or your tape measure/favourite item of clothing) have been kind to you this week - but if not, have a think about why. Have you allowed carb creep? Have you been cheating? Have you slipped on the fat/water front?

Anyway, hopefully all is good, and here's to another positive week

Despite the fact that I am always in the supermarket, I never seem to have any suitable food in my house. Am thinking it's time my kids and dh moved out Grin
I swear I had 12 eggs yesterday and now have none!
With that in mind I had a steak burger from the butcher's with 2 gherkins and mushrooms fried in butter for breakfast, with a tablespoon of hollandaise. That will do me until dinner, which is likely to be chicken and veg of some kind.

I did dig out my old Callenetics dvd and did that this morning. Has anyone tried it? It's very slow precise muscle movements, which don't put any strain on joints or back. It's very boring and much harder than it looks but it really does work for toning up muscles without adding bulk. Now that I have managed to shift a bit of weight, I'm thinking it's time I got a bit fitter. Went for a walk uphill with D's yesterday and my calves are still burning, do the time has come I think.
If nothing else, watching me exercise has amused the cat Smile

@plumstone

I have no idea what is wrong - I am 12.3 stilll - this is so disheartening!!!

Do I give IF a whirl - start eating less, LCHF veggie? I am at my witts end!!! I can't drink any more water 4litres a day, lots of veg, lots of fat, little processed meat - please can someone assist as I have had to re-jig my goal from 11st. to 11.7 by Christmas - very disheartening!!!

thanks, i'm just feeling low!!

You know the routine!

List out for me everything you've been eating and drinking over the last 3-4 days, and we'll see what we can spot.

Hi Biwi am a short arse - 5 1 or so. I look and feel my best when I am about 8st 3lbs so that’s about another 7 pounds or so (struggling to get below 8st 10). Maybe I need to do more exercise but 3 kids with bubbles down so very home based currently!

Hi everyone, jumping back in (having seen Laska2Meryls is doing the same Smile). Hope that’s ok. My DH took over the cooking and I have been eating carbs with every meal. I had an accident on 10th November (fell down a step in the garden which was covered in leaves and hurt my wrist and shoulder). Obviously DH did not force me to eat all the carbs but I was in a lot of pain initially and then I just went for it.

So, I weighed and am now heavier than my starting weight. My wedding band is too tight which has never happened before.

B Coffee
L 2 scrambled eggs in butter
D Big pork chop (350 gr), roasted courgettes and celeriac

@Totalshambles I'm similar in that I've onlh lost a total of 1.2kg this BC and most of that was in the first 2 weeks but it's only been one and a half months. 1-2kg a month is normal rate of weight loss, i reckon. Wiser posters than I will be a ling help with food reccs, etc. I'm sure. I wish it would go faster too!

Back to my lowest weight this bootcamp (last seen a month ago) and just 1/4 of a stone to go! Nice but simple day of food yesterday got me to that reward:
B: 2 scrambled eggs with butter and 1/2 avocado
L: 2 boiled eggs, spinach, tomato cucumber and hm coleslaw (literally just red cabbage and a bit of carrot in mayo). Yogurt and bit of hm coconut granola for pud.
D: salmon, broccoli, kale with extra butter. Square of 90% Lindt

Really absurdly excited to try roasting cauliflower tonight. I was going to make cauli cheese but I know all that dairy stalls me and realised I've got loads of spices I can add, so should be good. I've got a massive fresh cauli today but does anyone roast frozen florets? Is it good?

Mimosa1 arghh so annoying! It’s also pretty demoralising that this is essentially maintenance as was hoping that when I had reached goal I could introduce a slightly higher carb content but clearly not...

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously I’ve bitten the bullet and started exercising again this week too, and keep waking up at 6am with aching hips. I’m doing a 30 day yoga-for-weight-loss challenge that I found on Amazon video. I’m enjoying it mind you (am only on day 3 though!).

So this week i decided to really try and rein in my portion sizes and have less cream and cheese, it seems to be working! 1.4kg down from monday!

Well done to you all doing degrees, especially later in life and around kids, it's not easy. I've just gone back to uni, it's sponsored by work so I get time to do it in work but it's still a shock to the system!

@rayna roasting any veg seems to improve it immeasurably, how did I not know this before? Roasted sprouts are a revelation!

@burninggubbins I love yoga with Adriene, do you know them? She's so nice! I'm doing her 30day home challenge at the moment, though I have days off so it takes me longer than 30days!

She releases a new 30day challenge each January and I love it, thinking of everyone round the world doing the same yoga on the same day!

BurningGubbins, I will take a look at Amazon video - I didn't think to look there, so thanks for the tip. Callenetics is very boring so I need something to mix it up because I don't think I could do my dvd more than twice a week.

lemonsea I commiserate.. one of the reasons I wasn't really committing has been dental problems.. Although the resulting antibiotics forced me off the wine for a week and that has given me the impetus to get back to it.. but they also made me feel sick so I had used that as an excuse for potato eating !! Offending tooth will be coming out this week hopefully.. but it is difficult to keep up a regime if one is in pain..
But here we are and its a few weeks to Christmas. Still time to make a good difference , eh ? 👍..

Rayna I cook frozen cauliflower in my air fryer with spices and it comes out lovely, all blackened around the edges. I'm sure roasting it in olive oil and spices would produce a similar result.

@plumstone I came across this article and I thought I'd try giving up caffeine to see if this made a difference to me, and it did! So maybe the coffee is causing your insulin to spike and stalling your weight loss as your food diary looks like something to aspire to to me :)

Report
plumstone · 25/11/2020 13:48

Thanks @CeibaTree that's really interesting - I used to drink 8-10 coffees a day, having my last one while in bed reading a book - never had problems sleeping and assumed - possibly incorrectly - that this meant I was immune to the caffeine.

Will conduct a quick test and stop drinking it between now and monday and see what the scales say. Shame I really love coffee, and as i don't have a sweet tooth it was my daily vice - ah well - to paraphrase Kate moss, Coffee won't taste as good as wearing levis feels! Grin

I am assuming that this will also apply to tea - shame as I have a love of Lady Grey tea - oh well - camomile here I come!!

Fellow Yoga with Adriene fan here Superspecs andburninggubbins!

I started the first 30 days programme in March as we went into lockdown and I've worked all the way through that, yoga camp, revolution, true, dedicate and I'm on track to finish Home before the end of this year ready to join in with a new one along with everyone else in January. Might have a look at some of her Yoga for Weight loss ones if I have a couple of weeks spare at the end as I recall the ones I tried were pretty good.

I need to get back on yoga with Adrienne. I was doing it during my 2 year olds nap but naps have been ... fraught lately. And no nap at all today. And I never feel like it on working days. But it did help my painful hip and knee. Also must book physio.

Today has been scrambled eggs and half an avo for lunch, and dinner will be butter chicken for meat eaters and butter paneer for me, with veg and cauliflower rice. Waiting for the whoosh.

The yoga thing I’ve been following on Amazon is with Julia Marie, whoever she is. She takes it slowly and concentrates more on doing a few poses with the correct technique rather than constantly whipping through, which suits me.
I’ve heard of Yoga with Adriene before and always meant to give it a go, but never got round to it. I guess I am just in the right frame of mind at the moment. Perhaps I’ll try her new 30 day programme along with January bootcamp! That’s amazing that you’ve caught up with all of them Rayna37!

Laska2Meryls tooth pain is the worst. Poor you. I am in my early 50s and had great teeth until my late 40s and suddenly I needed 2 crowns due to teeth crumbling when eating a hard sweet/crunching an apple. Bit paranoid about my teeth now! Hope your dentist helps you soon.

I have started C25K again, doing it outside in a field as the fresh air gives me a boost. 4 weeks to Christmas. Still time to get rid of some blubber.

plumstone you might want to cut your caffeine gradually if you usually have a lot. Caffeine withdrawal headaches can make carb flu seem like a breeze...

Is it too much dairy????

Thanks

It's possible that it's too much dairy as you are having it every day and often at more than one meal. Why not try cutting it out for a few days and see what happens?

The other thing you could try is fasting - the easiest way to do that would be to drop breakfast (or lunch if that's easier).

You also haven't said how much water you're drinking - you should be drinking at least 3 litres a day - are you managing that?

@BIWI 4 litres every day - 1 x 2litre bottle between 9 and 1pm and the 2nd 2 litre bottle between 1pm and 7pm - i thought that would be enough?????
