Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - the lucky 7

BIWI · 23/11/2020 08:58

... no idea why 7 is supposed to be lucky, but let's hope it is for us!

Here's the Spreadsheet

If you haven't visited the spreadsheet for a while, or really had a good look at it, can I suggest that you have a good browse of it now? There's lots of really useful information there.

Why do I suggest that? Because it's easy to get complacent or to lose enthusiasm this far into Bootcamp - but yet we still have 4 weeks to go, so it's important to hold your resolve.

Hopefully the scales (or your tape measure/favourite item of clothing) have been kind to you this week - but if not, have a think about why. Have you allowed carb creep? Have you been cheating? Have you slipped on the fat/water front?

Anyway, hopefully all is good, and here's to another positive week

I appreciate all the advice for others who feel like they've stalled. I'm guilty of carb creep but might also try limiting dairy and caffeine

Part of my motivation for losing weight was concern over my DC (and particularly DD) picking up on my negative attitude to my own body. I feel a bit hypocritical believing in body positivity but knowing that I could only be positive at a lower weight. I do recognise my attitude is the result of my Mum's frequent dieting. I'm on my way to being happy with my weight but I'm slightly worried I'll find something else to criticise about my appearance.
Apologies for the waffle, I just wondered how others feel

Evening all,

I had a really busy day so ended up having 3 slices of seriously low carb toast with loads of butter for lunch,

For dinner, I had chicken thighs with bandos sauce on a bed of roasted veg- Aubergine, courgette, shallots, mushrooms and garlic. It was delicious!

I've had a bowl of ff Greek yoghurt with a tbs of almond butter.

AND ALL THE WATER!!

shag you will be delighted to know I have ordered a beautiful brown belt that is arriving tomorrow so will be all glam in my burnt orange dress for work on Friday and a long autumn walk afterwards Grinfeeling so confident about this!

First time poster on this thread and hoping you experienced lot can help me.

Been doing 16:8 fasting since may - lost 4 lbs then it stuck so added in doing lo- carb 3 weeks ago (I’m a sucker for rice and bread so I’ve cut it out completely, replaced rice with cauliflower and bread with chicken and veg stir fries). Have no more than 1400 cal a day.

I’ve lost another couple of pounds and that’s it!

I see all these posts where everyone says oh it’s falling off me but I’m just not getting it.

I’ve just turned 40 and I wfh with two small children and only get to exercise a couple of times a week otherwise I’m fairly sedentary.

Just really thought I’d be shifting more by now.

Should I just give up?

BurningGubbins and other yoga fans, I can heartily recommend Zoe and Yoga Burn on YouTube. She did a lockdown challenge which is really fabulous, her explanation and non impact, calorie burning exercise had really had an impact on my body, and I only do it twice a week, the other days I just walk the dog.
The holds really do burn, and you can feel your body burning energy all day.

@Coriandersucks - have you read The Rules? They're on one of the tabs on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness- or if you look back in this topic and find the Week 1 thread, they will be in the OP.

In particular, are you drinking enough water? Depends on your weight, but most of us need to drink at least 3litres a day Shock

Are you including enough fat?

You mention a restricted number of calories. This WoE (Way of Eating) is not about calorie counting nor depriving yourself as long as you follow the Rules - drink the water, have the fat, eat a FLGV (Fuck Load of Green Veg - suitable veg are in the Spreadsheet) and only eating when hungry Smile Following the Rules means you'll find your appetite is naturally suppressed and that once you are ketogenically adapted, you'll get your energy from your own body as it magically converts the fat (that's how I visualise it Wink).

Well done for getting as far as you have. The next step is a leap of faith but it does work. But it doesn't work if you do it by half measures.

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously

Despite the fact that I am always in the supermarket, I never seem to have any suitable food in my house. Am thinking it's time my kids and dh moved out Grin
I swear I had 12 eggs yesterday and now have none!
With that in mind I had a steak burger from the butcher's with 2 gherkins and mushrooms fried in butter for breakfast, with a tablespoon of hollandaise. That will do me until dinner, which is likely to be chicken and veg of some kind.

I did dig out my old Callenetics dvd and did that this morning. Has anyone tried it? It's very slow precise muscle movements, which don't put any strain on joints or back. It's very boring and much harder than it looks but it really does work for toning up muscles without adding bulk. Now that I have managed to shift a bit of weight, I'm thinking it's time I got a bit fitter. Went for a walk uphill with D's yesterday and my calves are still burning, do the time has come I think.
If nothing else, watching me exercise has amused the cat Smile

Damn. I could have written that post.

And a big YES to Callanetics. It’s old school, but it is wonderfully difficult and incredibly effective. I’m feeling inspired.

Thanks Ifeelmuchlessfat! Will definitely check her out. One benefit of wfh is being able to sneak a bit of exercise in without it being the performance it is at the office of booking a class, getting changed, showering... but now I have no excuse either...

At last 1/2 lb off 😀🙏
I’ve tried to move more and have also been more mindful of nuts etc. It would be great to get a couple more pounds off this side of Christmas, my goal is to get to a BMI of 25.

Another vote for callanetics here, does amazing things to lift your arse and flatten your stomach.

A big hoorah from me today, as I finally had scans of my arm done yesterday, and although it's still buggered it's not actually torn. Which means I can start pushing it a bit more instead of being so careful in case I damage it further. But... the full-length mirror in hospital lighting, in a state of undress experience... was very very very very very sad-making.

So, time to start jigging about a bit more, and back to WOE basics!

@Coriandersucks unless you’re very small and thin already then, in the nicest way, it’s next to impossible for you to have actually eaten

How near your goal weight are you Coriander? Losing two pounds in three weeks seems like a good rate of weight loss to me. How low carb are you eating? Are you following the Bootcamp rules?

Welcome @Coriandersucks!

Without knowing what you're eating, it is hard to tell - so can you give me an idea of your meals over the last 3-4 days? You've been cutting out the obvious things, but there could be other ways that your meals are high in carbs.

Also, as @prettybird says, we don't count calories on Bootcamp, so - if you're thinking of joining us! - no need to worry about those, just focus on the carbs,

The other key thing is fat. Low carb is a high fat way of eating. If you're restricting your calories, I'm guessing that you're also trying to do this as a low fat diet - which won't work.

On top of that is the water - it's important that you drink at least 2-3 litres a day - more depending on your weight. If you check out the rules, rule 6 will show you how much you should be drinking.

Don't worry about not being able to exercise. Weight loss is 80-95% about diet and only 5-20% about exercise.

But don't give up! As weight loss (which will come), eating a lower carbohydrate diet is a much healthier way to eat. There are many benefits in some ways more important than you weight, as lots of Bootcampers (current and previous) will attest.

I'm going to have a little break from posting for the next week or so, DP's best friend passed away unexpectedly this morning so I'm going to focus on supporting him. He is distraught, his DF was more like a brother 😭
I haven't weighed this week, I've felt rotten, I'm getting over an awful sinus cold my toddlers felt they needed to share with me and AF decided now was the perfect time to visit! I have been good with my food, although a few days I haven't had as much water as I should so I'm being mindful of that. KOKO everyone Smile

On another note before I go, I had a telephone consultation with my consultant at the Lipid clinic which oversees my genetically high cholesterol.

He was very interested that I'd taken up low carb and was impressed that my cholesterol went from 10.4 to 4.2 (if I remember correctly) and that it stayed low after a month following low carb/ high fat.

He said studies show cholesterol in someone where it's genetically high can go either way - very low or very very high. So he wants me to repeat my cholesterol test, including a cholesterol marker linked to strokes (since I've had a stroke) to make sure it remains low and hasnt started to shoot up.

But overall so far he is pleased low carb is working for me Grin

Taking a break from zoom meetings and other crap to cook the IPD moussaka. Then it will have time in the fridge before I reheat it for dinner (always tastes better if it's not eaten right away - maybe it's just the anticipation)

B - boiled egg, coffee with cream
L - avocado, salad plus 'testing' the fried aubergines that don't make it into the moussaka
D - moussaka, asparagus, oven roasted crispy kale
