Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!

BIWI · 03/08/2020 07:19

Morning all

Very much looking forward to finding out how everyone has done so here's the Spreadsheet for its last outing

I had hoped, when I started this Bootcamp, that we would have left lockdown properly by now, rather than being in this weird kind of limbo that we find ourselves in. But hopefully it has achieved its objective, of getting us all a bit more focused and healthy, rather than just eating and drinking ourselves to death before the virus could do that!

We will, of course, carry on - I'll keep the thread going and when it's finished, we'll start another one. Just because the ten weeks is up doesn't mean that the diet has ended Grin

Here's to a good result on the scales this morning Flowers

Thanks @Mimosa1 I'll keep it in mind. The trouble with tiny slices is you always want 4 ay

@StuntNun that gives me hope. I'm so far from sub 20% bfp is a distant dream but still there

I realised yesterday that when I lost 2.5st 10 years ago (my last big loss) my starting weight was less than I am now Shock And I've already lost almost 2.5st!

Also my DH has bought me some potted shrimp, and suggestions on what to do with it as hot buttered toast is off the menu?

@Takingontheworld looking forward to hearing your results x

Takingontheworld · 27/09/2020 10:40

Obviously i am weak, and couldn't stay off the scales any longer 🤣

I've been averaging 8-900ckal, 18/19 hour fasts and less than 30g carbs max (sometimes way less) for 4/5 days (todays day 5)

And I'm now 13st 4, so roughly 4lbs lost.

We go on holiday Wednesday so feeling stressed about that now. Although there is a high chance we aren't going in which case i can keep my food easier, so may continue a little longer than planned as I'd like to get into those 12s.

I find myself half hoping we don't go on holiday so i can keep control. That's quite sad isn't it.

I think I'm always a bit on edge. I truly believe I'm going to go all the way and lose the weight this time, and i totally owe that to this thread. But I've failed so many times, albeit much much earlier in attempts, my brain likes to tell me it'll never happen

StuntNun · 27/09/2020 13:21

Taking you're being too hard on yourself. You're doing really well and you've already achieved a great weight loss. The 8-900 calories you're eating now is very low and isn't the best way to lose weight. Think of it as a short sharp shock for your system and then you're going to eat normally while you're on holiday. Try to stick to low carb as much as you can while you're away - don't use it as an excuse to eat poorly. It is quite possible to stay in control while you're on holiday. I'm a scales addict as well so I know how eager you can be to weigh yourself but remember that your weight is a really poor way to assess your fat loss. Your weight will drift up and down from day to day no matter how strict you are, it's just the way our bodies work. You'll see that 12 on the scales soon enough and, more importantly, your clothes will feel loser and you'll be happier with your figure. You are going to go all the way and lose the weight this time because you've got out supportive community to back you up. Honestly you're your own worst enemy at the moment! Trust in the system. There's a reason BIWI has been running these Bootcamps for ten years or more... it's because they work and that's why there's a demand for them. I lost weight myself on Bootcamp back in 2013 and if I had known then what I knew by the end I would have had a much easier time of it. Instead I, like you, tormented myself with every weigh in and it ultimately made it harder to stay on track. Bootcamp works, it is working for you, and you will achieve your weight loss goals.

Takingontheworld · 27/09/2020 13:41

Wow ten years!? You guys must be absolutely sick of people like me 🤣 I swear I'm not the moaning Minnie I appear here!

Oh yes, please know I'm fully aware what I'm currently doing isn't ideal... infact husband said to me yesterday " isn't what you're doing exactly what you've always said no one should be doing" Blush

Until now, I've only ever been on one diet, lost everything i needed to and that was that. Post kids i tried and failed many times to recreate, but always the same plan. I say this to explain that I'm not a serial dieter trying all sorts of nonsense, so I even surprise myself right now and honestly I think the only reason its tolerable /easy is because I've been here for the past 3 months so whilst its eating less I'm just eating less of the same stuff if that makes sense.

I have absolutely zero intention to continue being so strict, and whilst i appreciate finally shifting some lbs again as I've been mostly stagnant for around 6 weeks now, but mostly I'm doing it to focus my mind as I'd become a bit meh and samey with it all.

I think I shall continue until Wednesday as planned. Then bring my ckals back up but focus heavy on my veg and see what happens. Should i introduce slowly or am i ok to skip back to this woe?

BIWI · 27/09/2020 15:30

Not quite ten years - it's 8 - but it doesn't make any difference! You have just as much right to post, vent, moan, share here as anyone else ever has.

If it were me, I'd continue with what you're doing now until you go on holiday. Then relax on holiday (albeit sticking to low carb, as much as you can, as @StuntNun says!), and then when you get back, revert to 'normal' Bootcamp low carbing.

Ran my fastest 10K since 2018 today. Hate to think that it might be powered by 5 x chocolate biscuits 🤦🏻‍♀️

Im back from campervan holiday and surprisingly lost weight, am really surprised because I had wine every evening and ate some carbs a couple's of evenings (rice and pitta bread 🙄).. But I did stick to the two meals a day eating window regime that I began at the start of the in the last bootcamp and which really seems to work for me .. Anyway, I know that I certainly cannot get away with eating carbs and quaffing wine too much.. So its back on the strict wagon this week in prep for the next BC.. I have at least 10lbs more to go ..

Mimosa1 · 28/09/2020 09:10

That's great, @Laska2Meryls. Can I ask what your eating window is? Do you just skip breakfast?

1.5kg down this week after staying the same last week, so I'm very pleased. I'm tantalisingly close to the top end of a "normal" BMI. Just another kg or so to go!

NoraEphronsneck · 28/09/2020 09:29

Morning all,

I've been fluctuating for the last month between 14st and 14st 2lbs which is annoying, but at least I'm maintaining.

My NSV though is that when I first started to lose weight I went from a size 18 to size 16 trousers, and now the size 16 are too big and I think I could comfortably get into a 14. These are exactly the same style/make of trousers (linen, from Next) so I'm pleased with that.

I have let some carbs in (and some ice-cream) over the past fortnight/three weeks so can't wait for bootcamp to start again so I can double-down on my efforts again.

Laska2Meryls · 28/09/2020 09:38

Mimosa I have found 11 to 7 works well for me ..I tend to have black coffee about now then cheese and ham omlette in late morning ( or something similar but I am happy to eat roughly the same breakfast every day) and then dinner about 6.15/ 6.30..

..
Its not BC rules though.. as there are no restrictions on timings.. it just seems to work well for me.. I dont count calories ..

Laska2Meryls · 28/09/2020 09:52

I actually look pretty skinny at top end of normal BMI. It doesn't seem to work that well for people with my frame .( Inverted triangle)..

Why isn't this BC rules? You only need to eat three meals a day for the very first couple of weeks, so what you're doing is absolutely fine.

Well done for continuing to lose despite the wine and carbs!

Laska2Meryls · 28/09/2020 11:27

Thanks BIWI,. I was being cautious about BC rules.. but yes thats what I have done all through this .
Yup the carbs in this instance didnt affect me.. so fortunate.. but I know that if I hit the bread esp ( or too much wine) it all goes out of the window !!

NigellaAwesome · 28/09/2020 11:28

Hi everyone, I haven't been around much as bloody work life has been getting in the way.

I hope to catch up on the thread and get into the way of this again. Are we doing a boot camp proper before Christmas?

Hopeislost · 28/09/2020 11:56

I didn't lose this week and I'm blaming the empty jar of almond butter in the recycling bin! I think I'm going to keep track of what I eat this week in an attempt to eat a bit more mindfully. Last week was v stressful workwise and even though I ate low carb, I was eating for reasons other than hunger.

BIWI · 28/09/2020 13:14

Hi Nigella!

Yes, the next one will start mid-October. I'm going to post a sign-up thread in the next day or so.

Whoop whoop

BrassicaBabe · 28/09/2020 19:31

Is anyone else starting to feel another lockdown slump hitting them? Of course I'm chuffed that the kids are back at school. I'm very lucky that my job is unaffected and continue to work from home. And I'm a generally unsociable introvert Grin But... hate winter and the dark nights, there's nothing but work and dull routine stretching out in front of me. Nothing to look forward to except to keep your head down until April?!

Takingontheworld · 28/09/2020 19:53

Yes I'm feeling it creep on. I feel like I'm pretending to be chipper for the kids but I've been in tears all day. Its really caught up on me I think. Inlaws have pulled back as they're scared again and I'm feeling the weight of uncertainty with my work. But mostly its facing the winter in lockdown/ surrounded by low level fear again. It was so much more tolerable in summer but there's something so gloomy about the impending months. I'd quite like to just hibernate now really. My kids seem to be crumbling suddenly and i think its the return to normal but faced with it not being over yet that is deeply unsettling them.

Blah. Today I've eased my ckals up and eaten later with husband today. Not intentional but we needed time together so is what it is. Had 2 egg spinach and cheese omlette with salad for lunch, then steak with salad and peppercorn sauce for tea. Extra calories crept in on the pecan butter cos i couldn't resist 🙄 was still 186 on scales this AM so 4lb loss holding steady.

Gave away my 18-20 clothes today 😲

Mimosa1 · 29/09/2020 07:55

Yes @BrassicaBabe and @Takingontheworld I know exactly what you mean. I'm feeling a bit flat and trying hard to be jolly for the children. We moved to the suburbs over the summer and DD started a new school. It's hard to encourage new friendships for her with the rule of 6 and no chatting to other parents at school and while the extra space is glorious compared to our tiny old flat and I know how lucky we are, I've frankly found it hard to meet people here too. I'm an extrovert and I'd have thrown at least a dinner party or something since moving under normal circumstances! Again, I know how lucky we are so it feels awful to moan when some people have it much worse.

BUT I'm determined not to put on the quarantine 15 like I did last time so I shall be signing up to the October bootcamp. I'm hugely grateful to @BIWI , @StuntNun and others for running it.

Mimosa1 · 29/09/2020 07:57

I meant to say as well Congratulations @Takingontheworld for passing on your size 18/20 clothes! That must have felt great. Do you have smaller clothes or is this an excuse for a shopping spree / charity shop trawl? I do love a good charity shop find!Grin

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 29/09/2020 08:38

@Mimosa1 @Takingontheworld @BrassicaBabe I hear you. Looming lockdown lows. Sorry you're struggling too.

I keep seeing 'your memories on FB' of all the lovely autumn stuff we have on normally. And I'm sick to death of qualifying every statement and promise to DD with 'if the rules don't change'. Half term weekend away looks unlikely, Halloween party off, trick or treating off, bonfire night off, DD2 birthday party off. I still haven't seen my mum since February (care home in lockdown) Grrrr.

But it could all be so much worse and for many people I know it is. So best to just keep smiling.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 29/09/2020 08:53

And more relevant to this thread the last 3-5 lbs are taking forever to budge. Basically STS since return from holiday at the end of August.
