Low Carb Bootcamp Léger! Notre quatre semaine est ici!

BIWI · 15/06/2020 07:33

It's Monday! So soon! Wink

Morning all.

Ici, c'est le début de notre quatre semaine du Bootcamp. C'est léger est pas ordinaire.

... which means we can relax things slightly.

Some fruit is allowed in moderation - mainly berries. Nuts and seeds in moderation, and alcohol very much in moderation.

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you need to, check the rules for Bootcamp Light on the tabs there.

If you're happy on 'ordinary' Bootcamp, then by all means continue. If you were finding intermittent fasting was helping you, then you could also consider trying to extend the length of time you've been fasting - so if you were managing 12:12, try working up to 16:8. If you were managing 16:8, see how much long you can extend that for. Just don't let it go so long that you get too hungry and are tempted to cheat.

Alternatively, you could do a hybrid, so strict Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

We only have two weeks left of this Bootcamp, so let's get/keep focused, and see what we can do!

@Takingontheworld: I am going to cut dairy for a few days on BIWI's advice. Maybe I am one of those people for whom it stalls weight loss. Which is a shame as I LOVE cheese in all its guises and cream.
Butter in coffee is actually quite nice, so I will do that.

Well done @Puppermint, that is fab!

NigellaAwesome · 18/06/2020 08:57

@kakiqueen you could also try coconut oil in your coffee which is also good, and would completely cut dairy for a few days to see if it makes a difference?

BrassicaBabe · 18/06/2020 08:59

I've leaned that I can log an extra 0.5lb of loss is I weigh again after second wee at 8 vs the one at 630 GrinGrin

0.6lb to go until I see a nine!!

Eggbound · 18/06/2020 09:38

Wow, @BrassicaBabe - a nine. Exciting! I haven't seen one of those since pregnancy sickness.

I'm feeling a bit discouraged this morning. (1) I had terrible diarrhoea yesterday afternoon/evening - could it be related to how I'm eating? (2) My face, which is prone to light acne, has become spottier. (3) I'm disheartened, reading about @kakiqueen's experience, that dairy can have a stalling effect - I love it, and rely on it (along with fish and eggs) for fat and protein and general yumminess, as I hate lamb and beef and only eat a little bacon and chicken.

Can low-carbing give you the runs? I have been supplementing magnesium to help replace electrolytes, which I know can have a laxative effect, although it hasn't done with me in the past. And I thought keto is supposed to help clear skin, not make it worse - unless that's a delayed effect?

BIWI · 18/06/2020 09:54

@greengoose21b

Well I'm pretty much stuck at the same weight for 2 weeks now, which is really annoying.

I'm getting next to no exercise mind you. I work at home and it's been relentless, so most of the steps on my Fitbit are made levelling my fluids! I go between my desk and the kitchen tap to fill up, then my desk and the toilet to empty out.

Yesterday night I licked a spoon without thinking. A chocolate sauce spoon. My god it was sweet.

Have you not read my posts about weeks 3 & 4?

You started low carbing on Monday 15, and today is Thursday 18 June. So you're only on day 4. You are very likely experiencing the effects of transitioning into the low carb diet, which will be a temporary thing.

No idea how much magnesium you're taking, but it's very likely that this is causing the diarrhoea, so I'd stop this for a day or so.

I'm disheartened, reading about @kakiqueen's experience, that dairy can have a stalling effect - I love it, and rely on it (along with fish and eggs) for fat and protein and general yumminess, as I hate lamb and beef and only eat a little bacon and chicken

Not everyone finds this is the case, and it may not be so for you.

One of the things that becomes apparent on every Bootcamp is how different we all are in terms of the things that impede or assist our weight loss, and dairy is definitely one of those.

You don't have to eat lamb, beef, chicken or bacon to get your fat though - if dairy does prove to be a problem. Butter isn't included in dairy, so you can use that liberally, along with olive oil, coconut oil, avocado (and avocado oil), and mayonnaise - although watch the carbs in the latter.

Just relax a bit, and give the plan a bit of time! With all the water you're drinking (you are, aren't you?) this can only help you overall as well as your skin.

BIWI · 18/06/2020 10:08

@Takingontheworld

I am eating a lot of dairy too.

Day 30 inthebigbrotherhouse and no shift on the scales. Blah.

But this isn't true, is it?

You lost 10lbs in the first 10 days, which you reported on 4 June. So you haven't lost anything in the last two weeks.

So I say again:

Have you not been reading my posts about weeks 3 & 4?

You may be impatient, but don't forget that you've already lost the best part of a stone! Just think about all the other posters here who haven't lost anywhere near that.

Yes, this isn't a competition - but you are doing really, really well!

Just step back and be pleased about what you've achieved. Keep following the rules - all of them! - and things will get going again.

In the meantime, you could always post your meals for us, for the last few days (at least 3 days please) and we'll see if there's anything we can identify that you might be able to tweak.

Thanks, @BIWI. Yes, I'm only on day 4 - early days.

I held off with the magnesium last night, and may take just half a dose tonight and see what happens.

I'm drinking lots, yes - aiming for 3 litres of water a day plus a little creamy coffee in the morning.

I'm going to stick with cheeses and cream for now, unless an issue with dairy becomes obvious.

And I have lost a few pounds this week already, so that's encouraging.

Thanks again.

kakiqueen · 18/06/2020 10:11

Thank you @NigellaAwesome.
I have a jar of coconut oil and will stir some in when I make my coffee.
Which is any minute now :)

Laska2Meryls · 18/06/2020 10:12

Poo half a pound up ! Its stuck 2 days now .. ah well week 4 blues . .. I am not daunted
Ive really upped the exercise this week hill walking , swimming in the sea ( not too cold), I may even get the bike out yet!
But yes berries for last two days, ill cut them out again

BIWI · 18/06/2020 10:14

@Eggbound

I'm drinking lots, yes - aiming for 3 litres of water a day

Aiming for ... Grin

I don't know how much you need to drink, because you haven't entered your weight on the spreadsheet, but just to say it's really important to get that amount of water (if that's your goal), and even more important if you've been suffering from diarrhoea.

The other thing that occurred to me - you've been taking magnesium because of your concern about electrolytes, which is fine. But what about sodium? Are you using salt in your cooking and on your food? That's especially important when you're drinking lots of water on a low carb diet.

OP posts:
Eggbound · 18/06/2020 10:26

Ha, @BIWI Grin - yes, aiming for, and probably nearly managing. I have a 750ml water bottle and am filling it three to four times a day, so I'm getting 2.25-3 litres, plus the coffee. So today, I will fill it four times.

I tried entering my weight on the spreadsheet but it wouldn't let me enter my name at the bottom of all the others - is that how you do it? My starting weight Monday was 12st 7.8lb (so I think 3 litres of water is about right?). Today it's 12st 5.2lb. I'd like to get to 10st 7lb (10st would be even better but I'd take 10st 7lb).

As for salt, I've always been liberal with adding it to food and have been upping it even more.

I'll try the spreadsheet again.

Eggbound · 18/06/2020 10:28

BIWI · 18/06/2020 10:32

WEEKS 3 & 4 - OR IS IT CHEATING RELAXING?

Every Bootcamp we see the same phenomenon - in weeks 3 and 4 (sometimes even 5, I have to say) weight loss can stop and even reverse.

This is also the point at which we move out of strict Bootcamp.

The reason Bootcamp only lasts for a fortnight is two-fold:

  • we were being strict initially to switch our bodies into fat-burning mode, and this should have taken place after two weeks
  • being realistic, it's quite strict and relaxing things slightly can make it easier to follow the plan. Even in week 1, we've seen people start to cheat!

However, the combination of this particular phenomenon, along with the relaxation of Bootcamp rules does seem to cause issues for some of us.

I'm not saying that we're all cheating Grin but there is a lot of 'relaxation' creeping in.

I'd remind you all that Bootcamp Light allows some fruit, nuts and seeds and some alcohol in moderation.

This WOE is an unforgiving one, and cheating has a real impact. It's not like a low calorie diet where one 'bad' day can be compensated for with a 'good' day.

To see the impact of all of this, go and run your eyes down the weekly weight loss column on the spreadsheet - and look at all those numbers with a minus sign beside them. Those are the weight gains.

So be careful, be cautious and think carefully about what you're eating. And be honest with yourself! Are you really following the rules as well as you were in the first few days? Have things been creeping in that shouldn't be?

We're half way through week 4 and only have one more week to go although I have noticed that the spreadsheet goes up to 20 July! so time to re-group and get focused.

Ive weighed in this morning after almost 2 weeks of no movement i am down 1lb so this is the boost i needed to KOKO. However i will add that on the advice from @BIWI i cut out all dairy yesterday! Ihave a feeling this might have helped. So to anyone (@Takingontheworld) who loves the dairy that might be the way to go to test the waters.

So i cut out;
Dash of milk in my teas at 12 & 8 o'clock
2 babybells as a snack at 4pm
The mountain of cheese on the cauliflower for dinner

Maybe that's made the difference to get things started again... fingers crossed. Ill be cutting dairy until Monday to see how things go.

BIWI · 18/06/2020 11:07

Yay! Well done.

J'arrive!

You're on, @eggbound

Badly timed to follow BIWI's stick waving, but as it's my birthday today I am having my weekend couple of glasses of wine today.

Fully accept this will see no movement - and probably a gain - on the scales on Monday. But I have been otherwise perfect and am willing to make the trade-off this week. Tomorrow will be back to 100% virtuosity.

Eggbound · 18/06/2020 11:19

Thank you, @AthelstaneTheUnready. I'm officially doing this then. Shock Extra thanks for sorting this on your birthday - happy birthday! Flowers

Biwi
As you’re in charge I’ll ask you - is it ok to post a couple of pictures to show the effect your 3.5 weeks of bootcamp (and going AF) has had on my stomach?

Not sure what the etiquette is, but I’m so pleased. Weight loss has definitely slowed, and I know from the past it will stop for a while completely soon, but even if nothing else it’s had an effect already.

After the slow down of week 3 and 4 do you often see a bit more movement in the scales department? I would love to see something next week to make me feel good about myself!

I’ve cheated very few and far between, had two glasses of red every Saturday night and since boot camp light haven’t really changed my diet - one day I had one small handful of cashews and another day I had a small slice of that famous cantaloupe melon just because it was there. Very small though. No berries so far.

Do you think those of us who don’t eat meat find it harder? I do eat fish but without meat dairy is probably more used.

I took am hovering very close to seeing a 9 on the scales but have been like that for two weeks now! My scales are in kilos but i convert them to stone and to lbs too when I weigh in.

Haven’t broken the fast yet today, just don’t feel hungry! I did have a cup of tea with milk at just before 8pm last night so I’m going to call that the end of my eating window and wait until lunchtime to eat anything. Not sure what to have yet, pretty low on nice food here and need to do a shop.
