Low Carb Bootcamp Ordinaire - Week 3

BIWI · 08/06/2020 07:15

Morning all!

The start of a brand new week. Hopefully it will be a better week - emotionally/psychologically - for us all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your progress.

Hopefully we've all had a good couple of weeks, food and weight wise.

Be warned that we're now in week 3. Many, many, many low carbers (not just Bootcampers) find that the weight loss can slow or stop in this week (and also week 4)

If this happens to you DON'T PANIC! If you've been losing so far, then you know it works. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on) and things will get going again soon.

Good luck to us all [ flowers]

I'm so sorry for anyone that is struggling, it's a hard time so just high five for being here!

Upthread someone mentioned there was a website showing the variety of what different people look like at different weights - is this the one you were thinking of?www.mybodygallery.com/

To those who sabotage once reaching a point, I've got the same issue and I've had my husband hide the scales so I'll have no idea how well I'm doing until bootcamp is over. I know that I need to not be hung up on numbers as frankly I've got a fair amount to shift so the real test is actually fitting back into clothes. I'm going forward on faith. No cheating, and I will lose. I'm still measuring, as for some reason that doesn't have the same sabotage trigger effect on me. Thankfully I'm still shrinking!!

Takingontheworld · 09/06/2020 13:28

Bumped into a friend this morning who went on and on about how her sister has lost loads of weight in lockdown and is getting super fit etc.

Reminded me of how after my last corp AGM I swore I'd be slim by next time and they wouldn't recognise me. I think i lasted 4 weeks after thay before relapsing again. It's likely to be cancelled this year so hoping i still have it in me.

I really want that "wow you look great" moment.

Feels a long way off yet but need to keep going if i ever stand a chance right?

Sauvignonismysaviour · 09/06/2020 13:35

Weight has stayed the same this week … I feel dreadfully bloated though. I'm drinking all the water; black coffee; loads of leafy green veg. Maybe my body is just adjusting from having bran cereal for breakfast? Not sure!

NSV though, I can see the cellulite clearing on my thighs.

BIWI · 09/06/2020 13:55

Well there's one surefire way to guarantee that it won't happen!

I really want that "wow you look great" moment.

I got that last boot camp from a very fit friend of DH's. I told him why and he proceeded to tell me I shouldn't LC for long periods of time.

Ninkanink · 09/06/2020 14:01

Looking at things from a longer term perspective and more specifically in terms of health and wellbeing rather than ‘must get to X point on the scales/X size’ is very important too. If you approach dietary changes with too much linearity (‘this is a purely a process of getting from here to there’) you are already setting yourself up to fail. You will stop bothering at some point, whatever the catalyst might be.There is no end to this way of eating, it’s just a journey you’re on forever, which naturally will ebb and flow, and that’s perfectly okay.

For a change in eating habits to work well and to be more than a temporary aberration it absolutely has to be about much more than just weight or body shape, clothing size or whatever your particular X is.

SparklesAllOver · 09/06/2020 14:12

I'm sure I would lose lbs immediately if I wasn't so constipated, haven't pooed for 3 days despite sticking to lchf, eating loads of green leaves, drinking loads of water. Trying peppermint and licorice tea, hoping that I have a movement soon, I feel like I could burst!

Freetodowhatiwant · 09/06/2020 14:13

Is there a glossary for boot camp? I’m wondering what Onederland is and also have seen people write something along the lines of FLVG or similar...? I have guessed KOKO means keep on keeping on.

Feeling very bloated and premenstrual here so not anticipating a big loss this week. Also emotional but not yet broken the WOE despite living in a rather difficult and sad situation. Came to my parents garden today and they made me a big salad! Great to have food made for me as like others I’m sooo fed up of cooking.

BIWI · 09/06/2020 14:20

FLGV = fuck load of green veg

(Not sure about Onderland)

KOKO = keep on keeping on

If you're feeling bloated then the answer is to drink even more water. I know that sounds counterintuitive, but it should help you.

Sorry you're having a difficult time, but well done for keeping on track!

A word about constipation

If you are concerned that you're not going to the loo as frequently, that isn't constipation.

Constipation is when you have trouble/pain when you go.

It's very common for people to go less frequently, certainly in the early days.

If you're suffering, then up both fats and water. Try a strong coffee, some extra high strength Vitamin C tablets, and up your exercise.

If you're really in dire straits, you could always consider some sugar-free Gummi Bears

This is normally a wobble point for me, where self sabotage has kicked in. I feel I'm ahead of the game with that mentally at the moment and am working hard at keeping things that way.

gruntley your “Onederland” reference reminded me I was exactly where you were. Hopped back and forth for quite some time. I’m now in the 170s so clearly broke through that headfuck barrier, and pleased to hear you’re feeling good about it. You can absolutely do this.

notjisyexploring it’s amazing you’re doing this scales-free. As BIWI has changed things up a bit during “these uncertain times” Hmm I’ve been wondering what other interesting changes Bootcamp could explore. For example, what about a bootcamp where the weigh-in becomes a measure-in? So yes, Wright is recorded on Day 1 and Final Day, but the updates are given in measurements (again, could be started simply at 100 for those who don’t wish to share), and possibly more motivational to see it in centimetres rather than inches.

I wonder if that would give us a different perspective about rate of loss and achievement, as so many are brainwashed into seeing only the number on a scale.

Takingontheworld your AGM experience reminded me. I always set long-term goals about being in great shape “by this wedding, 10 months away” or by “this reunion in two years” or by “this big birthday in six months.”

I found that those motivations weren’t sustainable. I found that the beat motivations needed to include short-term goals rather than long-term.

So now it’s, “today I will drink all the water;” “today I will walk for 40 minutes;” this week I will be alcohol-free;” “by the end of bootcamp I will zip these shorts.”

That’s how you get the smoking hot responses at the next AGM. Wine

SparklesAllOver others will suggest various remedies, but after 3-5 days I bring in the trusted big guns. Maybe not for everyone. They work incredibly well.

I weighed in this morning, 1.75lb down. I'm starting to cut down on bf and worried that it's going to cause a gain.

I also have no idea what to set as a target. I got down to my lowest ever weight for my wedding in a v unhealthy and unsustainable way, and also feel that my body shape has changed since having a baby

ShagMeRiggins · 09/06/2020 14:39

“Onederland”—as far as I know—is a term used on The Biggest Loser when contestants leave the weights of 200+ and move into the 100+ category.

prettybird · 09/06/2020 14:40

Maybe think in terms of a threshold, either or both Wink in terms of a stone or half stone "barrier" which you want to get below, or 5kg markers if you weigh in kg. Or to get to the level below in BMI, if you're above the "normal" range.

Alternatively, if you have an item of clothing that's a bit tight, to get into it comfortably. Take photos to see the progress (including if you can't currently do it up Wink)

Or a belt that you can watch the belt holes change.

Think what would motivate you and do it for you Thanks You're worth it Thanks

ShagMeRiggins · 09/06/2020 14:52

I'm starting to cut down on bf and worried that it's going to cause a gain.

Stop worrying. Keep eating well and see what happens. Worrying about the future is useless. Planning for it sometimes works (not always, ha ha thanks God/Nature), but worrying never changes anything. It increases your cortisol levels which is not good for weight loss.

If you’ve minuses of a long-term target, give yourself a short-term target and see what happens. One pound a week. See if you can achieve that while eating healthily with us.

If you must have a goal weight (most of us do), choose something realistic.

I used to want to be 115 lbs. I’m 5’4”. I don’t want to be 115 lbs anymore. I’d be very happy—and fabulous—at 135-145 but because I’ve had multiple births and am menopausal, 145-150 will do just fine.

So, set a realistic happy goal in which you can move freely, be comfortable in your own skin, and be in a healthy range.

SparklesAllOver · 09/06/2020 14:54

ShagMeRiggins, thank you, I am on my second peppermint and licorice tea and drinking lots water, I hope I won't need those but will bear it in mind.
BIWI, loved the gummi bear story - I had a similar experience after eating two packs of Cool Mints - they are evil.

Sauvignonismysaviour · 09/06/2020 15:32

Relieved I'm not the only bloated one aboard the good ship bootcamp! Black coffee, more water, garlic kale for dinner - anything to avoid a suppository!

Short term targets is something that really resonates with me. "One day at a time" (which I believe is what they say in AA). Today I know I've had all my water and then some. I've had a really delicious lunch and dinner and in no way feel deprived. I slept really well last night thanks to this way of eating. My jeans feel a little looser and my skin's looking better. And today, I don't feel the need to comfort eat (or drink - which is a bigger issue for me).

We can do this!

prettybird · 09/06/2020 15:36

ShagMeRiggins - I'm now proudly wearing my smaller plaited belt even though it can barely get into its own belt loop Blush as my other plaited belt is now definitely too long and just irritates me flopping out the belt carriers Smile

And of course, I can't possibly wear jeans without the finishing touch of a belt Grin

1WildTeaParty · 09/06/2020 15:41

Thanks for warning on the curse of the gummy Bear BIWI !

Ninkanink · 09/06/2020 15:46

Make sure you’re eating as wide a range of roughage as possible. I eat huge raw salads (pretty much anything fresh I can find goes in - any combination of radishes, cucumber, tomatoes, carrot, celeriac, peppers, celery, fennel, cabbage, parsnip, mushrooms, mange tout, courgette, gherkins, etc etc, all finely chopped/sliced/grated and thrown into a bowl with some leaves). Never had any issues with being bunged up. A little pile of leaves here and there might not be enough to keep things moving along...

Be very aware, though, that as BIWI said, many people find they don’t need to poo very often whilst eating this way. There is absolutely no need to be going every day or twice a day or whatever people are used to when their diet is made up of lots of carbs creating their huge amount of gunge for the body to deal with.

Razzlefrazzle · 09/06/2020 16:42

I've seriously fallen off the wagon today. It is my birthday and my husband baked me a gorgeous lemon drizzle cake so what could I do! Suspect this evening will involve gin but I have asked him to cook a low carb meal (he's surpassed himself this year ) @BIWI should I go back to week one for a few days to compensate?

No need to do that - but do make sure that you are super strict. Eat more fat, drink more water and do more exercise.

Ive had a more relaxed day to day and eaten more as I think i have been eating too little , and that's why I have been feeling so weird. I als have upped the salt and am certainly feeling better now..
So buttery scrambled eggs and ham for breakfast , a bit of left over chilli (sans beans ) for 'snack lunch'
and Ive just had Ottolenghi turkey and courgette meatballs with a fewfrench beans (not the lowest carb but really nice ) and a load of salad with olive oil and lemon .. I made a sauce of roast red pepper( yes, again not that low ) sour cream, sumac , chilli and garlic to go with the turkey and had a bit of that also .

Was yummy....
