Low Carb Bootcamp Ordinaire - Week 3

BIWI · 08/06/2020 07:15

Morning all!

The start of a brand new week. Hopefully it will be a better week - emotionally/psychologically - for us all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your progress.

Hopefully we've all had a good couple of weeks, food and weight wise.

Be warned that we're now in week 3. Many, many, many low carbers (not just Bootcampers) find that the weight loss can slow or stop in this week (and also week 4)

If this happens to you DON'T PANIC! If you've been losing so far, then you know it works. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on) and things will get going again soon.

Good luck to us all [ flowers]

All I can focus on is the champagne 😂 mmmmmm looks lovely

Ifeelfat · 12/06/2020 21:43

Wow that does look fab... what a great idea. We used to have pizza on Fridays but live close to a fishing harbour so I’m sure one of the restaurants will be doing something like this... will investigate.
Surely you need white wine with it tho?

venusandmars · 12/06/2020 21:49

Actually, soda water with angostura bitters are probably a better accompaniment than wine or champagne. Honestly.

Ninkanink · 12/06/2020 21:54

When I’m not bootcamping I’m partial to a tall tonic with angostura bitters and sliced lemon or lime. Just as nice as a gin and tonic, albeit in a different way. It’s my drink of choice when I don’t want to drink alcohol.

Takingontheworld · 12/06/2020 22:08

Managed to make it through day 1 of work trip and stay on track- i haven't tracked on mfp as i was so bloody exhausted after the drive here but i insisted i cooked... made my tikka chicken in coconut oil with red&white cabbage with mayo salt and lime and loads of garlic kale- everyone raved about it!

Then when they broke out the crisps etc i did a big dollop of mascarpone, 5 raspberries and 2 squares on 90% lindt. It looked so indulgent no one tried to tempt me with anything else and i have resisted.

I have however had a glass of rose. So fail on that front but overall after another (expected as i understand weeks 3-4 is a pain) sts on the scales this morning i was a bit worried I'd be weak and fall spectacularly off the wagon.

2 more days to get through. I purposefully have come armed with shit loads of nice greens, meat/fish and cheese in the hopes no one will mention a takeaway again...

Freetodowhatiwant · 12/06/2020 22:13

So are we on boot camp light on Monday? I’m quite excited about what changes there might be if so. It would certainly be nice to have a bit of fruit. I’m not a massive fruit eater but a little bit would make a nice change from all the savoury stuff.

Good! I thought we'd all agreed that you would stop tracking on MFP?!

Morning all!

All my metrics are going haywire. The scales have had me up 3lbs again most of the week, I've regained a lost inch on my bust, but lost another entire inch from my waist. Heading for the extreme Gina Lollobrigida curves.

There is clearly some effective internal reorganisation going on here Grin

Almost back to Monday's weight this morning, but I feel so much lighter than then. I can feel my arse bones (sorry, probably not the technical term) when I sit down; the squidge on the back of my neck has gone; my wrists and hands look different, and my fat jeans are now undeniably looser around the thigh.

I clearly needed this reminder that the type of food you eat can affect the body's shape, not just its weight. I'm still slightly heavier than Monday, but I look a lot better!

That's with 100% adherence to the food rules, and about 2% effort on the exercise (desk job here).

devoncreamtea · 13/06/2020 07:13

Amazing dinners again last night! I am just having meat, salad, asparagus and broccoli most dinners - but I am really enjoying it. My favourite meat atm is chicken thigh with salty crispy skin - yum!
I had an NSV yesterday. I tried on a few of my dresses and they definitely fit better - one I haven’t been able to zip up zipped and although I wouldn’t wear it out quite yet as it pulls a bit across the chest - I was pleased!!
My testing jeans do up now too (albeit with a serious muffin top!!!) so right direction.
No weight loss yet this week. I’m hovering at 160/1 and really want to see the 150’s. I am going to try harder to get to bed early (and get the water in !)
B scrambled egg avo mushrooms
L ?! I tend to not be hungry
D pork steak swede mash flgv gravy
(Roasties for kids too)

devoncreamtea · 13/06/2020 07:18

@AthelstaneTheUnready lol at you turning into Jessica Rabbit!!! It’s the flgv.
I wish my thighs wouldn’t rub on eachother - so hope my body takes a bit off there and puts it on my boobs - or height actually 🤣 how is this arranged..??.!!!!!

Ragwort · 13/06/2020 07:42

I'm just trying to avoid weighing too much as I may get disheartened, but I know I must be losing weight as I am getting into smaller sizes (I have a wardrobe varying from 12 - 20 Grin). It would be unrealistic for me to get back into a 12 but 14 would be very nice and achievable. I was comfortably wearing 16s again this week.

Last night I had one of my favourite meals, chilli (no beans), homemade guacamole, sour cream, grated cheese plus salad. Lovely.

No alcohol for three weeks (*I did indulge one day, didn't dare admit it in here but really suffered from it so I hope I have learned my lesson).

Today chipolatas, eggs, mushrooms for brunch. Chicken wrapped in Parma ham with some sort of cheese stuffing & spinach for dinner.

Still keeping to IF which I am enjoying, I return from furlough next week so may be more challenging to stick to it as my workplace has no fridge, microwave etc so am limited as to what I can take to eat at work, but a big salad plus pot of mayo in a cool bag would work.

Ragwort · 13/06/2020 07:45

Forgot to mention that my order of Cheesies arrived, really delicious for those of us that like a crunchy snack, had them with a glass of soda water with ice & fresh lime whilst doing our weekly Zoom quiz and felt quite indulgent!

OneFootintheRave · 13/06/2020 08:00

Morning All. Thanks for the angostura idea, I'll be ordering some of that.

I'm really enjoying endives atm, either finely chopped in salads or roasted on the grill/bbq. Padrón peppers and spinach feature heavily too. A salad with a rich dressing such as blue cheese is a joy and with meat or fish on the side, I don't feel I am missing anything.

devoncreamtea · 13/06/2020 08:05

@OneFootintheRave do you make your own blue cheese dressing?

Laska2Meryls · 13/06/2020 08:33

Home made lamb and aubergine curry and spicy cabbage was fab last night , bur I confess to a teaspoon of Mango chutney and one of lime pickle ( it just didnt seem like curry nite without)
So same weight as all week, Today so far lots of water and black tea, coffee in a bit , hanging out for buttery eggs at 12 !
It would be great to lose a pound even this week..

Elpheba · 13/06/2020 08:43

Breakfast of champions here! Then Lupper is chicken & bacon stuffed peppers.
Trying to mitigate the fact that I know I’ll eat DS’s birthday cake on Monday!

Yes sorry, my point was that I'd allowed myself to be too tired to do it instead of matchsticking my eyes open ans meticulously recalling everything I ate to track it x

You do know Angostura bitters are 44.7% alcohol by volume though? Buy of course you only use a drop or too, just saying in case you definitely do not drink alcohol for any reason.. I have seedlip which I have with zero tonic and have also bought Aecorn to try ( but not yet , atm im doing fine with water ice and lime
prettybird · 13/06/2020 08:57

I love tonic with a couple of drops of angostura bitters: my mum used to call it a "rock shandy", so that's what we call it Smile

I might try it with soda water rather than diet (or "light") tonic water Halo

Hopeislost · 13/06/2020 10:00

I hit a bit of a low last night with a screaming baby and husband on shift and ended up eating half a jar of peanut butter. I'm kicking myself as I was doing so well and I wasn't hungry! The scales are 2lbs up this morning. I'm going to drink all the water today and will do a workout during nap time.

Plan for today:
B - 2 boiled eggs and a coffee
L - ham and halloumi salad
D - taco lettuce wraps with guacamole and sour cream

Rshard · 13/06/2020 10:04

Nice one venus on clearing those tasks, it’s a great feeling.

Felt rubbish last night so took myself off to bed at 9 and did not wake (apart from the obligatory wee) until 8 this morning. Busy week at ‘work’ clearly took it out of me but did manage to nail down a new subject for my dissertation so a good week.

Interesting talk about angostura bitters, remember my mil having a bottle of that after a holiday in Cyprus and having some kind of cocktail? Would it also work in sparkling water?

Hope everyone is having a good day, the sun is trying to come out here

Freetodowhatiwant · 13/06/2020 10:37

I remember my parents always having a bottle of Angostura in the house as a child and I think my husband has one somewhere but I don’t really remember adding it to something. I will have to look up suggestions to use it!

I’ve been hovering so close to going down under ten stone all week. For some reason when I weigh myself in kilos it always feels like the scales are going down quicker as I can count the grams! This morning I am 10.023 stone but I’ve been as low as that already this week and went up a couple of days! How tantalisingly close 9 stone something is. I’m not overweight for the healthy range at the moment but bigger than I want to be and I would really love this to be the last time I go over 10 stone. I’ve been as high as almost 12 when my thyroid first kicked in and was diagnosed for a while but have managed to stay 9-10.7 generally since then (children and very heavy weight due to breastfeeding aside.

I think we are going to go down to the seaside today so I will have some fish but no chips of course and maybe take some mayo and salad with me.

Linnet · 13/06/2020 10:50

I make long vodkas which has angostura bitters in it. They are lovely.

blueglassandfreesias · 13/06/2020 11:45

Hi all,
Can I join now?
I did the October and Jan LCBC and lost loads of weight but started having pains where my gall bladder used to be, very gurgly intestines and acid reflux during lockdown. I tried to go back to carbs but to be honest didn’t feel much better all bloated and cravey so I’ve reflected and think that I was just short circuiting to the LCHF things I liked (creamy coffee, dark chocolate, meat etc) and slightly neglecting the ratio of green veg and the predominance of veg. I kind of got into a rut where food was boring me and the breakfast option of eggs etc was just making me want to skip it.

On balance, the LCHF way of eating makes me feel much better emotionally and physically. I just think the ghosts of past disordered eating has managed to creep in without me realising.

So in the name of self care, I’m re-joining but will come on here each day to say what I’ve had for accountability.

Thanks.
Smile

Morning all good to hear everyone is koko with the woe - really need to do my measurements for the nsvs.
Just got back from a ramble in the woods for 2 hours, but don’t feel hungry yet!

Lunch - leftover bits (lamb kofta, some smoked salmon, cheese) with eggs and salad (we call it fridge mezze!)
Dinner - have some chicken thighs so may do them on the griddle or a slow cooked coconut chicken curry with some green veg!

Warmer here today so will spend some time in the garden soaking up the vitamin d! Have a good day everyone!
