Evening campers!

Setting this up now, as I had a bad night last night so I'm sloping off to bed early

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Seriously - if you haven't had a look, explore all the different resources on the tabs

Plus there are some reports that if you have a high level of ketones in your system your body won't make any more and will stop using up fat.

Interesting. I'm not sure I can physically drink anymore but I was very surprised at how strong those pee sticks were at late afternoon having chugged and chugged as normal, esp after I think BIWI said the ketones should be undetectable if drinking enough.

I think I might need to go dairy free for a couple days, my breath/mouth feels weird. Husband not here to breathe on and check if I've got bad breath but getting paranoid and I know my son is a dairy fiend and i can always tell he is having too much when his breath smells.

Going to try and set aside some time to read back over the old thread as suggested.

Ninkanink · 05/06/2020 10:16

@Takingontheworld best to re read this thread not the last one as this one is bootcamp proper. The previous one might just confuse you as it’s not what we’re doing now.

The spreadsheet of fabulousness is a great resource with lots of info.

Puppermint · 05/06/2020 10:29

@BIWI and @venusandmars thank you for the water info - will get DH to read it later and hopefully he'll take it on board yes I am married to a man child

Randomfatty · 05/06/2020 10:39

morning - its so miserable here - almost tempted to put the fire on!
L - chorizo, mushroom, chive and cheese omelette with a salad
D - baked spicy chicken thighs with a feta and kale salad

Usual snack of yoghurt if needed but finding I'm ok without it the last couple of days. Feel achy as I did a weights session and some yoga yesterday - think I'll have a rest today and get out for a long walk tomorrow.

Its great to see how everyone is doing, and I like planning my meals and adding them as it helps me from being tempted by off-limit snacks.

Don't actually feel hungry this morning, which is good normally these few hours until lunch are a killer - maybe my body is learning to like IF!

Have a great day! Smile Smile

Thanks for the burrito bowl suggestions, I have some green peppers to use up so that’s perfect use of them.

Sounds like it will be money well spent mrsk, a friend of mine had her wonky teeth fixed as an adult. She’d always hated them and spending a couple of grand on them was a treat to herself after a dreadful marriage and divorce. She was like a different person, she absolutely blossomed with the extra confidence. I reckon the effect will be the same for you.

ShagMeRiggins · 05/06/2020 10:58

Nigella your coriander & Lomé dressing post came on the heels of all the y’all about evening skin tone.

Had to double check you weren’t putting that concoction on your face and was wondering how in the world you’d keep it from sliding off after application! Grin

BIWI · 05/06/2020 11:07

@Takingontheworld

"I think I might need to go dairy free for a couple days, my breath/mouth feels weird"

That's a sign that you're in ketosis! It shouldn't last long. Drink more water and it will pass

@NigellaAwesome I've scrollled up and down the thread and back again and I cannot find the lime/coriander dressing. When was it posed please?

Ninkanink · 05/06/2020 11:30

gruntley123 · 05/06/2020 11:49

Grey and cold here today, almost tempted to put the heating on.

Just sauteed a leek and some mushrooms in a knob of lovely President butter, liberal sprinkling of s&p then finished off with some cream and grated cheddar. Utterly lovely.

Takingontheworld · 05/06/2020 11:59

I love leeks but MFP tells me they are super duper carby?

Ninkanink · 05/06/2020 12:03

They are on the high side, yes.

So I have them once in a while whilst on bootcamp. Maybe once a week. I am of the view that as wide a range of vegetables as possible is the healthiest way to approach a low carb way of life, so it’s all about moderation - keep it under control with the higher carb content veg but I’ll have them from time to time.

venusandmars · 05/06/2020 12:09

Our early morning walk today took us past the local fishmongers just as they were unloading some langoustines. Big bag of the wriggling creatures. Now cooked and ready for lashings of mayonnaise at lunchtime.

D - sole with a topping of mayonnaise, lime zest, chopped coriander, and capers. Grated cheese sprinkled over and grilled. Deeelicious! served with buttery courgettes and spinach.

Got extra sole to have for brunch tomorrow too, with a big of crispy bacon and scrambled eggs...

AthelstaneTheUnready · 05/06/2020 12:37

eh? Sainsbu says leeks are 2.8g per 100?
Texco says 2.9.

Are you sure you're not looking at US figures?

They'd better be low, I eat masses of them. Never hurt me

Ninkanink · 05/06/2020 12:57

Oh I thought they were considerably higher than that. I might be thinking of ordinary onions...

prettybird · 05/06/2020 13:04

Shallots are better than ordinary onions Smile

Rshard · 05/06/2020 13:06

I like concoctions like that gruntley, I sometimes do one with shredded brussels and bacon in.

Your meals today sounds divine venus!

Takingontheworld · 05/06/2020 13:26

Ooo good news about shallots.. i love onions!

Maybe I'm wrong... i like leeks alot but when I first looked I was getting mixed messages. Mfp rates them high carb but online there was info about somehow when cooked in high fat the carb content is lower? I wasn't sure so ended up avoiding!

Just had a bloomin lush lunch- 3 egg omelette with tenderstem broccoli, sunsoaked tomatoes and cheddar!

I feel a bit weak and shaky AFTER breaking my fast. Is that weird? I’ve had courgettes fried in butter with a fried egg, some grated cheese and a dollop of sour cream.

Oh I think I’ve just realised. I had my first cup of tea with milk (I am allowing myself two milk one a day) but before that I had two black coffees for breakfast. It’s probably the caffeine.

Ninkanink · 05/06/2020 13:34

Today’s lunch was very tasty. There are a couple of pork chipolatas in there as well. 👍

@Takingontheworld, MFP can be a bloody minefield, since it's heavily US-biased in it's counts. US carb count includes the indigestible fibre (or something...), whereas UK carb counts only count the stuff that actually gets digested and converted into 'sugar'.

You can't tell from the MFP entries which is which, so always useful to do a quick check on sainsbo/tesco first, and then pick the MFP entry for, e.g. 'loose leeks' that has a similar carb count.

@Freetodowhatiwant, probably caffeine! I find I'm much more sensitive to it when I'm in the low carb zone.

1Wildheartsease · 05/06/2020 13:44

MFP carb counts are not very reliable. Our supermarket ones are closer to bootcamp.

People are free to put their own values in on MFP and even the accurate ones are likely to be based on American counts that are done differently to ours.

(I love the fact that we don't need to count but if you were using the figures, I think that you have to stick to UK counts or American counts but not mix them.)

AthelstaneTheUnready · 05/06/2020 13:46

oh, and this: online there was info about somehow when cooked in high fat the carb content is lower?

... is somewhat garbled science. What happens if you eat fat with carbs, is that your insulin reaction to the carb can be slowed down. So the immediate carb 'effect' is lower. But it's the same amount of carbs.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 05/06/2020 13:47

oh man, @Ninkanink, that looks fab, with sprinkled greenery and everything.

Takingontheworld · 05/06/2020 13:49

Honestly I'm not sure I'm ever gonna get this right 😂

I'm only really counting right now while I get the hang of it all. Really hoping sometime in future it'll all be second nature!
