Good evening!

Trying to get ahead of everything, as I know tomorrow will be a real rush with people signing up, etc.

Here's the spreadsheet with many thanks to the ever lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready for her sterling efforts

@ShagMeRiggins

BIWI if I’ve learned anything about you in these boards it’s that you care deeply about people’s health, both physical and mental, and don’t want to do anything but improve it. Yah yah you wield the big stick blah blah (but as near as I can tell that’s only re-iterating the rules of bootcamp and asking posters if they’ve read them, so hardly a flogging). No one wants you to feel bad or guilty about the OPTIONAL calorie counting, so don’t even think about it.

I’m not calorie counting and I’m not carb counting either. I basically have joined doing Bootcampus Ordinarius (love it) because I don’t feel I need a short sharp shock—having gained 2lbs in two months of lockdown is fine by me, a good poo will sort me out Grin—but you responded to a vast number of posters who really want and need it and designed something deliberately extreme.

No one is asking for it to go away. Those who want to will see it through, those who are affected are either discussing it or—I suspect—staying away for a bit.

That’s fine. We are all adults and each need to work out our own triggers, bodies, and ways to move toward success.

Meanwhile, one thing that reading the calorie counting stuff has made me realise is a) I’m glad I’ve never done it other a brief stint with Weight Watchers in my teens, and b) it is helping a lot of posters tune in to their own bodies and understand need vs want vs habit vs boredom etc.

To quote Martha Stewart, it’s a good thing.

I meant to say - thank you @ShagMeRiggins Flowers

For reference, years and years ago in my early 20s I dieted down from a size 20 to a size 8 and getting up to 1200 calories per day was not a problem at all Grin the problem was not going over!! That wasn't low carb though. I'm not sure I'm doing this right so I would be very grateful for any advice.

Puppermint · 28/05/2020 09:06

unless you're weighing somewhere like Boots

Grin
TheOriginalMrsMoss · 28/05/2020 09:10

Can I be added to the spreadsheet please? I started on Saturday at 238lbs (I'm trying not to think about that too much ATM) and I'm already down 4 lbs.

I'm using IF and I've been startled by the fact that I've not felt hungry at all. I had bad headaches for the first 3 days in the afternoon but carried on because I could really feel the difference.

Initially, I've had a short eating window because I just didn't feel like eating. I need to get my head round good sources of fat because ATM it's mainly butter and coffee and cream once during my eating window.

I'm really looking forward to regaining my once fit body again. This feels doable.

BIWI · 28/05/2020 09:11

@Numbsmet what was the carb count of that meal?

It sounds to me like you're not eating enough veg - piling your plate with a huge amount of salad to get to the calorie count means a lot of salad!

Remember, low carbing is a high fat way of eating - harder within a daily calorie allowance, but that will certainly have helped you to reach 1000 calories whilst also being a more satisfying meal.

But we're not eating to 'reach a target'!

Your meals should be high in fat, medium in protein and low in carbs.

Did you salad have a dressing on it? Ketchup and salad cream are both high in sugar, (possibly your marinade too) so you will have been getting a lot of carbs from those, whereas carbs should mainly be coming from vegetables/salad.

(Oh and - sorry - hummous isn't really allowed on Bootcamp, as it's made from chickpeas)

I'm sorry you're not feeling great - if it is carb flu, it will pass shortly. Follow the advice thread about dealing with it.

Welcome!

Butter and cream are both perfect! Just keep a watch out though - some people find dairy (which doesn't include butter) can impact their weight)

Other good sources:

  • full fat natural yoghurt (Greek tends to be the lowest in carbs)
  • olive/coconut/avocado oil
  • avocado
  • cheese

I love salmon with my eggs too laksma, makes a big difference

unless you weigh in at boots 😂

NumbsMet · 28/05/2020 09:24

@BIWI thank you so much. I had no idea chickpeas were on the no-no list 😭 I was thinking of making a chickpea salad. But no love lost! I might have to start looking at eating cheese or something as part of this. MFP has been so useful, and although I didn't go over the daily allotted carbs (I did log ketchup and salad cream) I can see how adding ketchup etc wouldn't be helpful, so I will cut those out. The harissa paste I was careful to check before deciding to cook with it Smile. I can see I'm having teething problems here. I have been drinking sparkling water also as that's always my go to when I feel sick. I really appreciate your guidance, thank you.

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 28/05/2020 09:25

Thanks BIWI - I have some of those but I think I'm going to buy some avocado and coconut oil for cooking. I'm really enjoying my evening meals at the moment and looking forward to eating something delicious in the evening makes the IF part of the day really easy.

Judging by my current shape I am very insulin resistant so just drinking water and tea with unsweetened almond milk during the IF part of the day has removed my appetite entirely. It's been a revelation!

NumbsMet · 28/05/2020 09:25

Carb count of the second meal was 32 in total, sorry I forgot to mention that.

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 28/05/2020 09:29

Aww Devon :( that's crap that you've had a bad night too Flowers will you push through or are you the kind of person who can nap in the day without it buggering up the next nights sleep?

Btw, is anyone else here shielding?

venusandmars · 28/05/2020 09:36

Dinner was finished at 7.15pm yesterday, and I'm out today until nearly 12, so 16/8 done. I find it so much easier if I am busy in the morning, I don't even think about whether I'm hungry, my challenge is on the days when I'm at home, and my mouth is bored.

Food today:
Creamy coffee at 12
L - egg mayonnaise with salad
D - Rendang beef and cauliflower rice

Meets the strict bootcamp targets, as long as I watch my portions...

Not so much to drink this morning (only about half a litre of herbal teas because I don't have ready access to a toilet) but lots of water once I get back from my meeting.

Freetodowhatiwant · 28/05/2020 09:36

Thanks @biwi that’s really useful about the weighing. I too weigh myself every day as I find it helps me stay on track. I definitely always strip off - I would probably do it in Boots too. Brings back memories of weighing myself in Boots when I was in my early 20s! Not sure they even have scales any more. I do remember being weighed before going on a small plane once, luckily I was at my most skinniest so was quite happy to get on the check in scales!

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 28/05/2020 09:41

I weigh every other day - ish. Usually record my weekly weight as that on a Monday though, additional weighing is just to keep myself on track and so I know if Monday's weight is a massive anomaly.

Today, I'm 8.4lbs down on my pre-egg fast weight 🎉

BIWI · 28/05/2020 09:41

Oh goodness yes! I remember getting on a small plane and being shocked that I had to be weighed along with my luggage Grin

devoncreamtea · 28/05/2020 09:44

@BeyondDreams Thank you 😊
I have a migraine now (shouldn’t be on phone really but distracting from the yuck feeling) - DH is here so will just stay still until I can see properly again!
I’m not shielded - but my good friend is. She started before official lockdown so has been in for 12 weeks now! She is finding it hard going now, after initially coping brilliantly. How are you finding it?

Laska2Meryls · 28/05/2020 09:50

@BIWI

Oh goodness yes! I remember getting on a small plane and being shocked that I had to be weighed along with my luggage Grin
We have recently bought a Campervan ( its still at the dealership because of lockdown grrr) but you have to consider payload when touring. So the more I lose the more clothes I can take !!Grin
AthelstaneTheUnready · 28/05/2020 10:35

You're on, @TheOriginalMrsMoss!

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 28/05/2020 10:41

How exciting! I'm looking forward to weighing in on Sunday. I didn't take my measurements last Sunday but I'm going to do them today. I know I've lost inches already because my 'trousers of truth' aren't stretched to the max Grin

Freetodowhatiwant · 28/05/2020 10:42

Getting weighed in public to board a plane/to be able to take more clothes in your camper van are both definite incentives!

I’ve actually booked flights for a European country - it’s where I grew up and I am usually there part of the year and have a house and can quarantine if necessary. BUT it does mean bikinis might need to be worn so I really hope to ditch a few kilos by the time I get to go IF I get to go of course.

Patapouf · 28/05/2020 10:53

I'm finding i'm majorly clock watching towards the end of 16:8, i'm ravenous this morning despite having fat-heavy dinner last night at 6:30. i'm just about to have 'lunch' now and will have to have dinner a little early to keep it in the window. I managed 17ish hours yesterday without even thinking about the food so I don't know what's going on.
how can we know how much we are burning during the fast?

yesterday-
L: chicken skewers with garlicky mayo (hm) and a bit of lettuce for greenery
D: Salmon, cauli cheese and FLG(buttered)V

lunch today is yesterday's dinner leftovers. Dinner will be a nice big chicken salad with avocado.

BIWI · 28/05/2020 10:57

@Patapouf

how can we know how much we are burning during the fast?

I'm not sure there's any way of knowing how much - I guess you'll just have to monitor it by the scales/clothes/inches!

Morning all
Sorry those who had a bad nights sleep. I weigh daily and appear to have lost 4lbs, which is great as I have stopped snoring 🙏😀 annoyingly if I snore I wake myself up. Laughed at stripping in boots and have also been weighed for a plane, it is a bizarre moment.
I am doing a 30 min hitt session everyday on my exercise bike, it is hard but I think that is really helping with my lockdown mood. Have also been doing a lot of hovering as our house is on the market, was sold pre lockdown but buyers pulled out.
Today
B Greek yogurt
L egg mayonnaise, avocado and salad
D burger (naked) salad etc

We are currently not shielding but being very protective of our daughter who is in a very vulnerable group, so no shops but we (but not our daughter) have been out for exercise etc, that has been bearable for us, a huge Flowers for those who are shielding

Randomfatty · 28/05/2020 11:24

morning Smile thought I'd check in and glad that other have had some loo issues - either I am going loads or yesterday nothing until this morning! Confused. the dreaded insomnia is back - had an awful night last night - was knackered and was in bed for 9.30 but every time I dropped off - I woke up Sad. So not in a good mood today!
Will be fasting until 12.30 so not long left!
L - courgette, ham and cheese omelette with a green salad
D - homemade herby lamb burgers with a salad
snack of greek yoghurt if needed or may have as a dressing on my salad
Weights circuit later as well and if I have any energy left I'll be going for a walk!
Hope everyone has a good day! Smile

PseudoBadger · 28/05/2020 11:41

Great morning so far - lovely 2 hour dog walk (the DC’s furthest ever!) and then back to break fast with creamy coffee, 2 boiled eggs and an avocado.
