Jan '20 - Week 6 Low Carb Bootcamp - Stay on track!

StuntNun · 17/02/2020 06:14

We're in to week 6 and there's still plenty of time for the scales to drop before the end of Bootcamp. Remind yourself of the ten rules and add your weigh-in to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. How was last week for you?

My clothes are looser but I've stayed the same again. Finding it frustrating, even though I understand how it can be, mainly as I have loads of weight to lose and have just brought my wedding forward to October so am really feeling the pressure to start dropping weight.

ShagMeRiggins · 17/02/2020 14:06

whitershadeofpale are you sticking to plan? Are you enjoying your food? Is there anything about this way of eating that causes frustration for you? Have you posted your menus for us to help (sorry, I can’t keep track of user names and all the menus I’ve seen Grin)?

Regarding the wedding and pressure to lose, I’m going to suggest you say fuck it to that. Pressure causes stress which raises cortisol which inhibits weight loss. I don’t know what motivates you but when I feel pressured—especially by others—I get a great big “you can’t tell me what to do” toddler tantrum on and dig my heels in. I’m better about that now, especially when, annoyingly, the other person is right.

So my question is this: who’s putting this pressure on you to lose weight for the wedding? Society? Family? Your betrothed? You?

I know it’s important to look and feel good on the day, but you have found someone who loves you for who you are, not for what size you wear on your wedding day. That is an NSV right there.

Be kind to yourself.

RobinHobb · 17/02/2020 14:38

Also a carby twat! Love this.
Can't lose motivation 4 weeks from end: going to lose these last 3kg!
Haven't managed enough water today though; must get on that.

whitershadeofpale · 17/02/2020 14:46

@ShagMeRiggins I am sticking to plan, but admit to possibly having too many tomatoes from time to time and not drinking enough water everyday. I haven't posted menus no, but can.

Today I've had a bpc at breakfast, a salad with avocado, poached salmon and lots of spinach and olive oil and lemon juice for lunch. Dinner will be chilli over fried cabbage (in butter). I've drank loads of water (about 3ltrs so far today). I'll probably have one tea with a splash of milk later and possibly a black coffee this afternoon.

The pressure is from me. My DF doesn't give a shit about my weight (although he is bootcamping too and losing), my DM can be bitchy but ultimately it's me. I hate looking at pictures of myself lately as they show someone so different to how I think of myself. I don't want to look at my wedding pictures and feel that way and I don't want to be limited to plus-size dresses when I go shopping. I know it will make me feel shit and take a little bit of the shine off my day if I feel like I've failed to lose weight.

Almahart · 17/02/2020 15:09

Down 1ib which I’m fine with

Bf of mushroom and scrambled eggs, Lunch at Nando’s with dc - chicken livers and broccoli. Was delicious

ShagMeRiggins · 17/02/2020 15:12

Can't lose motivation 4 weeks from end: going to lose these last 3kg!

No, RobinHobb, you can’t!Grin The last month in my experience is when things can really hit their stride. It will be such an amazing feeling when those 3kg come off.

I remember when I started this and lost a stone I was feeling amazing but very few noticed. The second stone is when everybody notices and the dress sizes drop firmly lower .

It is worth upping your game for our last month, y’all...

1Wildheartsease · 17/02/2020 15:45

Up a lb this morning but hopefully just a blip -due to polite dinner with relatives last night. (It is hard to know exactly what was carby but I felt very full later so something was!)

It has been a good week otherwise - both for exercise and eating to plan. I think that the trend will be down this month... even if not by much (The last 10 lb are the steepest.)

Onwards! :)

ShagMeRiggins · 17/02/2020 16:06

whitershade how tall are you and what’s your figure like, general description—Apple, Pear, Natural Hourglass or was Hourglass but now Apple?

Where do you carry your weight—back, front, boobs, ankles...?

You’re not obliged to answer these by the way, it’s deeply personal. I’m trying to get a vision of you in my head because I think there are ways you can feel better about yourself right now and the minute we feel better about ourselves we start realising that we are all BIWI, who, for those of you that don’t know, stands for Because I’m Worth It.

We are ALL worth it.

The minute we realise we are worth it, the easier it is to regularly take care of ourselves through diet/way of eating, activity/movement/exercise, and whichever level of style, makeup, and overall care we feel (even the cliché of lighting candles whilst bathing). It is also easier to regularly take care of ourselves/seek help for mental and soulful needs.

Montybojangles · 17/02/2020 16:27

Finally! after 4 weeks of staying the same Blush i've finally lost a little over 1 whole lb. At least I never put any on since starting I guess..... Grin

whitershadeofpale · 17/02/2020 16:28

@ShagMe Riggins I'm 5ft 3, natural hourglass. Huge boobs, small waist, big hips.

I have lovely hair, my skin looks the best it ever has and I have a lovely smile. I am worth it, but it's because of that that I want to lose weight. I've done myself a disservice over the years, my body deserves better than how I've treated it.

My wedding won't be ruined if I don't hit goal (I don't even have a goal atm) but I won't feel as happy about myself as I could have done. I also want to TTC as soon as we're married so now really is the time to get in shape.

I'm ready to put in the work- because I am worth it, but I think it's natural to feel slightly dejected when you're doing it right and it's a bit slower than you'd like (but I will KOKO and I know it will shift!)

Rshard · 17/02/2020 17:08

That’s the spirit whitershade! Fab advice from shagme.

ShagMeRiggins · 17/02/2020 17:23

Yay bojangles! Yes, it is great remembering you’ve not gained weight. Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 17/02/2020 17:42

whitershade going quickly back to the food you posted—

It really would be worth one of the real Bootcamp leaders to analyse your meals over a three day period, but it looks like you’re doing so well!

The first obvious thing is WATER, because you say you don’t always hit that target. Make it your first goal (other than continuing to stick to Bootcamp way of eating, obviously).

Second thing is—again, from you—maybe fewer tomatoes. They’re not the enemy but they are Amber, which I know you know. As is the cabbage you’re having tonight with your chilli (yum). Maybe peeled courgettes next time?

So instead of thinking “no tomato, no cabbage,” have a look at the Green zone and think of how you’d like to incorporate those more often. No one is saying to stop eating from the Amber vegetables. Just put an adventurous and positive spin on the Green zone.

Maybe try cream instead of milk in tea. Or perhaps Almond milk instead of milk. I’m not a carb counter but I do try to embrace lowest carb items when they suit my palette. For example, I use cream in coffee because I love it, but Almond milk in tea whenever possible because I don’t like cream there. A subtle, almost negligible, difference.

Keeps me happy with how I’m eating, so experiment and do the same.

More later re height/body shape post you made. Unless you’re thoroughly sick of my pontifications, in which case I will STFU. Grin

Rayna37 · 17/02/2020 19:22

First day on the road started well at Leon. Lunch was prawns and calamari from M&S plus a little portion of Brie for fat. Just eaten a decent ribeye with hollandaise, mushrooms and tomato, green veg and a portion of salad too. Loads of water and chamomile and just one coffee with cream, first thing.
Undisturbed toddler-free leisurely bath to be followed by some yoga or possibly just bed and book. Night all!

Almahart · 17/02/2020 20:00

Sounds lovely @Rayna37. It’s so much easier to eat out and about now than it was when I first did BC in 2013.

Dinner was steak and salad with avocado and lots of lovely oily dressing. I am really enjoying this boot camp, thank you all Flowers

BIWI · 17/02/2020 20:09

@whitershadeofpale I'm sorry you're feeling frustrated but ...

My clothes are looser but I've stayed the same again.

So it's working! Just remember that the scales don't always tell us what's really going on - if your clothes are loose, then that's the best indication that you're losing weight.

And ...

you have already lost 12lbs!

In only 6 weeks that's really good going especially as you admit you're not following the rules as strictly as you could be!

WATER, WATER, WATER!

It really is important.

And @ShagMeRiggins' advice about focusing on the green veg is absolutely spot on.

Make sure you're keeping your fats high as well.

If it would help, why not post another couple of days' worth of meals and let's see if there's anything else we can spot?

NoOneCaresInRealLife · 17/02/2020 20:44

Hi all, I've been missing from the thread for a few weeks as had to go to UK for a funeral, Storm Ciara and then storm Dennis and ferry travel are not a good mixSad but stayed on track except for the return journey- had 2 pieces of shortbread and 2 cappuccino and boy did I feel ill.
On a plus side I've had consistent weight loss every week, yeah!
Please can you record my details on the spreadsheet 195lbs.
Thank you.

Doilooklikeatourist · 17/02/2020 21:25

I haven’t t weighed in today , as we had friends to stay over the weekend, we didn’t actually leave the house on Saturday as the weather was atrocious, the village was flooded ( no houses luckily , just road ) so had lots of chatting , catching up , wine ( and no steps )

Back to normal today ( thank goodness ) then there’s another issue , as it’s MILs birthday this week and we’re off out to a family dinner , I’ve not looked at the menu yet , but I’m not hopeful

Mimosa1 · 17/02/2020 22:04

Found you! I've been MIA from the thread due to work travel, and put on 2kg this week. It worries me because I can't seem to maintain - I'm either making or gaining weight. Still, I know where I made mistakes and I'm back to weighing daily as I'm very much a no news is bad news person. I'm back on track and as a PP said, there's still loads to be done in a month. Thanks again for running this, Biwi, StuntNun, Athstane and others. Onwards.

venusandmars · 17/02/2020 22:19

The good news is that at this point there are still FIVE more weeks of bootcamp. We're only at the start of week six. Koko...

My anticipated snack tea turned into a meal at Carluccios - chicken wrapped in proscuitto with mushroom and cream sauce, with broccoli. They swapped the rosemary and garlic potatoes for a HEAP of spinach.

DiscontentedWoman · 18/02/2020 00:38

I need to get on the laptop to add my weight. +2lb but tbh I'm not worried as I'm a bit bunged up HmmGrin plus totm imminent. Koko. Half term madness here, but I keep popping by in the quieter moments to catch up

Rayna37 · 18/02/2020 06:05

VenusandMars wow it honestly hadn't occurred to me we're only half way through bootcamp! So many people have come so far in 5 weeks and we've another five to consolidate the behaviours and carry on losing!
Onwards and Downwards!

Going to put my neck on the line and say this bootcamp I WILL get to target it's do close now and possibly beyond as I've more than 3lbs of wobble on my belly and try to cement the changes to maintain there and not keep regaining half a stone.

Almahart · 18/02/2020 06:42

I’m so pleased we’re only half way through. Am about to get into the weight I want to lose, rather than shifting the Christmas weight input on.

Elpheba · 18/02/2020 07:56

Did weigh yesterday morning but forgot to enter it into spreadsheet. But I’m another 2lb down so I’m pleased. Massive NSV is I’m in an old pair of jeans with a button! Forgot how uncomfy buttons are but they look good- let’s see how they feel by the end of the day though Blush
Had a work night out last night and I can see why we get told to drink with caution. I had two gins on a fairly empty stomach, at which point I then lost me resistance to the cake... BUT I’d ordered ahead so my actual meal was fairly low carb friendly (apart from there seemed more potato in the cauliflower croquettes than I would have imagined) so it could have been worse.
But determined to stay strict and not let one dodgy meal put me off track. We’re away with friends thurs-mon so it might be hard to stick to 100% BC so I’ll be hoping to STS between now and next week 🤞🏻
I’ve definitely let water slip in the last few days and I can tell as I feel constantly thirsty! So drink drink drink people!

absopugginglutely · 18/02/2020 07:57

Thanks Stuntnun.
I went to my mother in law’s this weekend and just ate whatever I was given because I didn’t want to be a pain.
I’m back on it today but it’s going to be a hard couple of saga getting adapted again but I’m glad to have the reminder of how utterly awful sugar/carbs make me feel.
I have the ghosts of ancient eating disorders lurking in the back of my psyche so I’m not going to weigh myself nor am I going to shame myself for going off piste this weekend and I’m exotically not going to miss meals or try to reduce calories, I’m simply going to follow the ten rules and gently get back on the wagon!
