Jan '20 - Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Ready for Bootcamp Light?

StuntNun · 27/01/2020 05:57

Welcome to the third week of Low Carb Bootcamp. As always, log your weigh-in on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. If you're happy with Bootcamp then you can choose to stick with it. Or if you want to relax a little and incorporate some fruit, nuts/seeds and dark chocolate then check out the Bootcamp Light rule changes on this thread and in the next post. Or you can do a hybrid: Bootcamp during the week, and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

It's really common for weight loss to stop briefly around weeks 3-5, some people even gain a little weight. Google "week 3 stall" and you will see post after post from people on Atkins, Fast800, keto, after bariatric surgery all asking why they haven't lost weight this week. The simple answer is that you are losing fat but retaining water. The stall will last a week or two and then your weight loss will resume its bumpy path downwards.

I've attached a typical weight loss graph which shows a brief stall at week 4. As you can see, weight loss is not linear; it varies from week to week but the overall trend (shown by the black line) is ever downwards hence our saying that "the trend is your friend." If you follow the rules you can expect an average weight loss of 0.5 to 2lb per week.

Thank you @AthelstaneTheUnready Smile
Please can I start with 166lb?

Mimosa1 · 29/01/2020 19:54

Food for today:

1st breakfast - tea w milk and 1 slice of dairylea

2nd breakfast - chorizo and scrambled eggs with 1 cup rooibos and cinnamon tea

11s - 1 tea w milk

Lunch - 2 slices of buttered LC bread (3.8g carbs each) toasted and made into open sandwiches, 1 with cream cheese, cherry toms, olive oil and lashings of pepper and the other with rocket, tuna mayo with a tiny bit of sweetcorn and salt

Snack - 1 Diet Coke

Dinner - 200g of ribeye with FLGV, olives to start and a small taste of DH's fries

Snack - decaf milky tea

Looking back it's a lot of food but I walked miles today with DH and I was hungry. We've found a place that we love and can afford but wandering round the area were not sure so it may be back to the drawing board but at least it's good for getting my steps in ...

It's great that there's so much lovely food to be had on this woe. It's hard for me to trust that eating this much will result in weight loss but I'll see at the end of the week, and adjust portions/amount of milky drinks I drink. This is way less than usual though.

Thanks to everyone who posts, I get so much out of reading what others are up to on BC.

Today's yummy food

Creamy coffee
Lunch: fried mushrooms with bit of Parmesan and dribble of cream, 2 eggs
Snack: tatziki & celery
Dinner: bratwurst Lc sausage, crispy kale, homemade coleslaw, lettuce/Tom/Cuc/avocado salad

Lots of herbal tea.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 29/01/2020 20:07

No problem, leo, hope you enjoy the ride! Grin

Food today:

B: x2 creamy coffees
L: roast chicken bits, spinach, black olives, all mixed in mayo
D: roast beef, broccoli and spinach in butter

I have a bumpy spot - a HUGE bumpy spot - on my chin. I am hoping this is some sort of fat-cell-releasing-hormones marker that I am in fact burning more fat. Because if it's just a HUGE spot for spot's sake I will be very annoyed.

Lionsleepstonight · 29/01/2020 21:07

Well i kind of messed up today as was in a workshop and ate alot of jelly babies. Im not even sure i enjoyed them!!!
At least i had a bacon and cheese salad for lunch. I was travelling over dinner time so grabbed a Leon chicken satay and swapped the rice for salad.
Not my best day, however old me would have ate far more goodies, high carb lunch and another carby takeaway dinner with flapjacks and coffee while travelling.
At least tomorrow I can have a high fat cooked breakfast and pop to m and s to pick up the prawns and pork bits a pp mentioned earlier on a thread.

CheddarGorgeous · 29/01/2020 21:11

Slight hijack to tell you all you must see Little Women. It's beautiful.

Bring tissues. Don't wear mascara.

prettybird · 29/01/2020 21:50

Still stuck at the rugby club with dh closeted away in a post-meeting meeting Hmm

We were going to have a turkey stir fry in which I was going to use a FLGV to make up for the fact that I haven't had any veg yet today.....Blush

Methinks that if I have anything when we eventually get home, it will be an omelette Wink

Harveywoo · 29/01/2020 22:36

B: yoghurt with 3 strawberries and flax seed
L: disaster!! Long meeting, my LC chicken salad separated from me by two floors of the office. Thoughtful senior colleagues had ordered in a working lunch in advance, being particularly proud they’d remembered I’m gluten free. Big-arsed tuna mayo roll with greek side salad presented, then they watched me with it like proud grandparents. Had no choice but to carve half of the roll off and chew making mmmm noises. Managed to mime fullness and pass the other half to someone (and polish off the salad) but oh dear!
Then spent most of the afternoon hungry, bloody carbs!
Snack a few walnuts and a half apple
D: good sausages, buttery celariac mash, avacado

Harveywoo · 29/01/2020 22:40

Please cheer me up with tales of your past food fails when cornered, feeling a bit pathetic after that....

ShagMeRiggins · 29/01/2020 22:48

Cheddar I’m desperate to see Little Women with my daughter. I feel it must be worthy of an actual cinema trip.

prettybird I feel your Hmm with post-meeting meetings.

I’ve had a positive day after two days of Hormoaners’ nonsense re school and chores (otherwise known as life, and just getting ON with it).

My bigggest bugbear this week is I’m soooo bloated. Where the hell does that come from? I’m menopausal so not TOTM, have been drinking all the water, etc.

I’m convinced it’s an Emotional Bloat/Stress Bloat.

The more I learn, the more I firmly believe that Body, Heart, and Mind are linked in ways we simply don’t yet fully understand.

Maybe I’ll become a Buddhist. I’ve never seen a fat Buddhist. Except for Buddha, of course.

prettybird · 29/01/2020 22:55

Supplemental Meeting finally finished at 10.20 Shock To be fair, it was a serious issue that we've been trying to resolve for two years a long time and if the person who said he was going to deal with it had grasped the nettle, it would have never escalated the way it has done Angry

I've had a slice of Emmental and 2 slices of pastrami Blush Will do better tomorrow! Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 29/01/2020 22:57

Harvey don’t feel pathetic. Not only did you face adversity, you also made me laugh with your MIME.

Honestly, MIMING FOOD? Grin

I have plenty of Food Fails I could share, but most of mine were private rather than cornered. For whatever reason (#emotionaleating?) I seem to be very good about foregoing when I’m in public. Not in a showy way. I just don’t succumb.

Having said that, it’s really difficult when people do something lovely for you (gluten free) but don’t get it, exactly right.

Have you mentioned you’re low-carbing?

Harveywoo · 29/01/2020 23:56

Aww thanks for your support @shagmeriggins ! I must have looked ludicrous, lots of leaning back in my chair rubbing my (not at all full) tum and pulling exaggerated satisfied faces. What was I thinking Blush? I did mentionI was low carbing to two colleagues who kept trying to share chocolates with me but had such a fuss from them about whether it was a sensible or healthy thing to do (while they continued to snuffle up said chocolates Hmm) that I haven’t bothered to mention it more widely at work. I’m noticeably absent for the daily (toast fruit cereal) staff brekkies mind you.

venusandmars · 30/01/2020 00:01

prettybird a balanced diet is balanced over the longer term, not necessarily in every meal or every day. Don't worry about the lack of veg today and make up for it over the next week / month.

harveywoo I had a day when my 90 year old MIL was feeling up to cooking lunch for our visit (usually I do it all and take it with me). She'd made a pasta bake and sticky toffee pudding!! What could I do?

prettybird · 30/01/2020 00:06

I know venus - I was just making a point to dh Wink

ShagMeRiggins · 30/01/2020 00:25

See, that never happens with me. No one ever challenges me about this way of eating unless it’s to ask for information about LCHF. one person has, in the last, asked about it when I’ve had the occasional sandwich, but more in the vein of “I don’t understand low carb if you’re eating bread” kind of way.

I’ve deflected and said I’m doing it my own way, which is true, and the results of my long-term way of eating speak for themselves.

It’s possible my RBF is Poster Girl material. Hmm

Having ranted all that, I do understand your choices. Not to worry. KOKO

PinkSubscriber · 30/01/2020 06:44

Morning! Woke up 1 lb up this morning, however, TMI, I don’t think I’ve been to the loo for ages.🤢 I’ve been taking senna tablets the last 2 days and still nothing. I can’t believe it after all the water, much more veg than I normally eat. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Sorry to put you off your breakfast.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 30/01/2020 06:45

Turns out my mum ate all my eggs last night whilst babysitting and left me nothing for breakfast! Shock

I wouldn't mind so much but she told me when I got in that she "really hadn't enjoyed them" as she "doesn't much like them" and "couldn't manage on that funny diet " of mine. So why eat them?? There were literally dozens of others things she could've had. Confused

Tenementfunster · 30/01/2020 07:20

I lost 3 this week. I will update later

CheddarGorgeous · 30/01/2020 07:33

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal grrr DH does that occasionally and I properly blow up.

Today

B - sausage, spinach, feta, tomatoes
L - mixed salad with ham and mozzarella
D - salmon fillet with FLGV

Working from home today so avoiding the carb traps at the office. And should be able to get out for a swim at lunchtime.

HouseTornado · 30/01/2020 07:49

Morning, been away for a couple of days, and asides from not getting enough water or FGLV, didn't waiver once.

Home now, so will make up for the lack of water, and keep my fingers crossed for a Monday whoosh.

Today's food:

B: Scrambled eggs & butter
L: FGLV and chicken
D: Don't know yet - need to shop!

Have a great Thursday everyone.

MrsBertBibby · 30/01/2020 08:02

Ah Greebo, I feel your pain. My mother had a stupendous knack of ensuring no favour was conferred without an equal and opposite setback. It was her superpower.

Doilooklikeatourist · 30/01/2020 08:17

@PinkSubscriber, You’ll find not going to the loo is a common side effect
It was explained to me ( on my first Bootcamp ) that it’s quite normal , basically you’re not filling up with bread , pasta , potatoes etc so there’s not so much to get rid of
Try adding even more leafy veg and water ( I know , you’ll feel like you’re sloshing when you’re walking ) and hopefully something will start moving 💩

Notwatchingtvtoday · 30/01/2020 08:43

Morning and thanks for the laugh shag
Maybe I’ll become a Buddhist. I’ve never seen a fat Buddhist. Except for Buddha, of course.

Nice day planned, thinking of moving so need to tidy up our front garden and this will probably involve some plant purchasing.

Have to walk dog first though and that means only one coffee, in case I need a wee when out 😀
Anyone using laxatives be careful, as when they work, it can be very quick 💩 good for us all to laugh at but slightly tricky for the person caught out. Stuntnun had a good remedy I think.

Today
B total Greek yogurt, coffee with tsp cream
L eggs and avocado
D IPD chicken type of stew with FLGV

Water 3L and another coffee

truelove · 30/01/2020 09:13

The scales confirmed what I suspected this morning - I need to stick to BC rules. Have had a few raspberries and blueberries with FF Greek yogurt this week and a couple of squares of Montezuma 100% dark choc. Last night I also had an apple and two of DD's oven chips Result? +1.5lbs on this morning. Sticking to eggs and cheese for a few days which normally gets me back on track pretty quickly.
