Morning all! Very sorry for the late start. I set my alarm. Woke up. Wondered why I'd set my alarm and went straight back to sleep Blush

Anyhoo.

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

For those of us who are new, the spreadsheet is not only where you record your weight (if you want to - it's not obligatory), it's also where you'll find lots of other useful information. Look at the tabs at the bottom for the rules, a veg counter (that will work out your carb count for you if you're using it for a recipe), and lots of other resources to help you learn more about low carbing.

I'll be back to post more stuff later this morning, but for now just wanted to get the link out there.

If you're using your phone to access the thread, you will need to download the Google docs app.

@Sassy306 if you're wanting to make a pastry base, there's a lovely recipe on the vegetarian recipe thread for shallot & gruyere tart that uses a pastry made from ground almonds and egg. (Not suitable for the first two weeks of Bootcamp though!)

Have had a lovely day today - a spa day bought for me last Christmas by my DH. It included lunch and a glass of Champagne, which was very lovely! We shall draw a very large veil over the food, however - no low carb options and I didn't hold back Wink

To be fair, I'm not actually Bootcamping this week, for various different social reasons, but will be joining properly next week.

So it's do as I say not do as I do for the time being!

Been surrounded by tins of chocolate all day, but managed to resist despite my period arriving today. Got home and scoffed four slices of ham with English mustard, cucumber sticks with soft cheese and a chunk of Stilton. All low carb but still... And now I’m not really hungry for my tea. Waaaah, stupid hormones!

venusandmars · 17/10/2019 19:31

Cauliflowerpower disappointed that you weren't keeping up your American Bourbon snifter habits Grin

You will be a waif But beware! Over the years as I was getting fatter I sort of didn't notice. My internal image of myself was still of someone wee and skinny. This was not the truth. Until confronted by realistic photos and an accidental sighting of myself in a mirrored hallway. Now my internal image is of someone plump and matronly. I've lost 3 stone, yet still my inner eye is drawn to the plump and matronly parts.

That is why it is important to try on clothes, to get 'real' about our bodies and who we are. And to accept and love ourselves for making the bloody effort.

venusandmars · 17/10/2019 19:33

PS cauliflowerpower stamping your foot doesn't even add to your step count, you have to actually stomp around the house. Then at least your irritation is counting towards something Smile

venusandmars · 17/10/2019 19:37

Oh nononononononononon I hadn't thought about making a bacon sandwich with cloud bread. Genius!

I said to someone at work in passing recently, "blah blah being chubby blah" and she said, "you really can't say that any more". I'd gone from 'chubby' to 'not' without noticing. It's a weird feeling.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/10/2019 20:23

Embarrassed to post my food day:

B: coffee with cream, half bowl yoghurt
L: pack of pate
D: pack of reduced seafood

Not a single vegetable... [shame]. There were circumstances, alright? Tomorrow will be full on (buttered) vegetarian to make up for it.

dripdrops · 17/10/2019 20:37

Wibbly you inspired me to make celeriac chips for dinner- they are delish! How did you get on?

impressed at athelstane managing pate by itself, not sure I could do it without something to spread it on.

B: olives and small cheese
L: chicken breast, cucumber, celery, leaves, tzatziki, more cheese!
D: Cajun chicken with spicy celeriac chips and roasted broccoli

Can't believe it's the end of Thursday already, this week has flown by

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/10/2019 20:45

It's nice when the prefects are breaking all the rules Grin

northernknickers · 17/10/2019 20:53

Currently on Day 2 of school residential...it's BRUTAL!!! 90 x 7/8 and 9 year olds, none of whom seem to want/need sleep! (Either that, or they're falling out/crying/refusing to eat because it's not beige!) Give me strength 😰

I have, though, despite wishing to illegally throttle 'certain' characters, and being tired as all hell, managed to stay on track!

B: scrambled eggs
L: ham, cheese, salad, creamy coffee
T: chicken (chips were tempting but avoided!) veg (awful frozen stuff, but all that was available on the hot-plate set up!) tired looking salad stuff and a random boiled egg from the 'salad bar'!

One more night of 'Sleepless In Sherwood Forest' to push 😨

reticule · 17/10/2019 21:21

Ooh I need to join in please? I hope I'm not too late.

Done lchf before and I'm ready for another go. I've been a bit fatter than than this, but I'm still feeling all jowly and broad in the beam. I love food and cooking, I'm mostly living on my own at the moment because of work and there's a sainsbury's three minutes walk from my house, so it's got to happen.

Two week half term with family starts Saturday however, so I'll have to be careful not to blow it. Right, here's my plan, I'll do as well as I can for the next two weeks and buckle down properly after that. I'll be lurking even if I don't post much for a little while. Off to pour a pint of water. Cheers.

venusandmars · 17/10/2019 21:27

althelstane it's about a balanced diet. Not every meal has to be perfect (as long as it's low carb), not every day has to be perfect (as long as it's low carb), not every week has to be perfect (as long as it's low carb).

But overall it does have to be balanced.

I have these charts pinned in my kitchen Rangan Chaterjee's Rainbow Chart and Rangan Chaterjee's Alphabet Chart

Every so often I have a look and think 'oh, I've not had enough 'R' veg' and get some radish or rocket or rhubarb. Whatever.. the key thing is that it stimulates my imagination and encourages me to be experimental and versatile. That's what a balanced diet is all about.

P.S. I once read that buttered parsley was the most balanced food available, in terms of proteins, micronutrients etc. But who can eat a plate of parsley at every meal? Nah... that's why we have Bootcamp so we don't have to do that!

Cauliflowerpower · 17/10/2019 21:30

Wise words @venusandmars... note to self stomping around house is a productive exercise.... 😁

Had 2nd half of meatloaf today with another recipe from I breathe I'm hungry. Courgette bake. Obviously I tweaked it to suit what I had in tbe fridge but it was bloody lovely. Well have it again tomorrow with steak!!! Mmmmmmm

Rshard · 17/10/2019 21:50

Just popping by to say hello and log my food for the day

B scrambled eggs 1/2 avo
L spinach poached eggs, mushrooms halloumi hollaindaise
D hm fajita chicken, salad sour cream

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/10/2019 21:53

I know, venus Blush, and as a long-term low carber I've eaten some shocking combinations in my time. Seriously, my digestive eeew tolerance is sky-high. (With a teaspoon, dripdrops).

The embarrassment is because this is the beginning of BC, and today was not a good look to display in front of people new to this. Blush

EAT YOUR VEG PEOPLE. THE GREENER THE BETTER.

absopugginglutely · 17/10/2019 22:02

Must google how to make cloud bread!
B:1 buttery omelette
L:tuna mayo with salad
D: broccoli with creamy cheese sauce, 3x bacon, 1 slice goats cheese & some form smoked tofu

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/10/2019 22:35

People have started to describe me as "skinny." This has never happened to me in adulthood. Grin

Glenthebattleostrich · 17/10/2019 22:49

Evening all, busy day today so food was pretty random!

B - lamb, cheese and pork scratchings
L - tuna in cream cheese, cucumber
D - Bolognese with cheese

3.5 l water, 2 mint tea, 3 cups tea with double cream.

I'm already noticing my appetite is decreasing, not ravenous when I get up, going longer without snacks.

We tried this recipe recently and have to say the pastry was amazing. www.ditchthecarbs.com/blue-cheese-bacon-mushroom-pie/

Glenthebattleostrich · 17/10/2019 22:50

Oh and because it's almond flour, it's not for the first 2 weeks! Will definitely be making it for Sunday lunch in a couple of weeks though

Kleptronic · 17/10/2019 23:56

I made BIWI's Cheeseburger Pie today and it was fucking amazing, although I had a bizarre moment and put passata in the mince, which is wrong - that is maybe acceptable after the first 2 weeks, depending on the carb count of the passata. Under 5g per 100g and you're ok, I think.
Mind you, I was under the impression onion isn't Bootcamp either, it's got to be shallots, but meh. It was lovely. Thanks BIWI.

Cheeseburger Pie
Total carbs 9c. Serves 4

Ingredients:

500g minced beef
50g finely chopped onion
150g chopped mushrooms
100mls double cream
2 heaped tablespoons of mayo
150g strong cheddar grated
3 eggs
salt & pepper to taste
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Fry mince, onion and mushrooms together until cooked
Season to taste, add the Worcestershire sauce and stir.
Put into a shallow oven dish* and spread it out/flatten the top
Beat eggs add mayo, cream and cheese.
Pour over the top of mince and bake in oven Gas mark 5 for 20 to 25 mins until set and golden brown.

Ready to eat immediately, or you can leave to cool before taking out of dish, then cut it in to portions and wrap in cling film
This freezes very well.

This recipe is adapted from one that was on this website

*I have made this in a casserole dish and it worked well, but if you use a shallow oven tray/dish it's more like a savoury cake bake I think.

rosesandsunflowers · 18/10/2019 01:42

I've just been shopping at a 24hr supermarket. It's weird but my choice was either late shopping on my own or face it tomorrow with sickly kids! Must admit I usually shop online but I had to get supplies for DS1's 4th birthday party on Sunday (really hope he's better by then). So many aisles were ridiculously tempting!
Anyway - today's food was:
B: buttery/creamy scrambled eggs with raw spinach on the side

L: bistro salad ((with home made vinaigrette) realised I probably wasn't supposed to have beetroot but it was already on my plate so I ate it) with Grilled salmon and coleslaw
D: low carb sausages with a made up concoction of shallots/bit of garlic/courgettes/ mushrooms all fried in butter with a splash of cream and then I added some left of cauliflower rice to it. It was surprisingly tasty!
