Morning all! Very sorry for the late start. I set my alarm. Woke up. Wondered why I'd set my alarm and went straight back to sleep Blush

Anyhoo.

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

For those of us who are new, the spreadsheet is not only where you record your weight (if you want to - it's not obligatory), it's also where you'll find lots of other useful information. Look at the tabs at the bottom for the rules, a veg counter (that will work out your carb count for you if you're using it for a recipe), and lots of other resources to help you learn more about low carbing.

I'll be back to post more stuff later this morning, but for now just wanted to get the link out there.

If you're using your phone to access the thread, you will need to download the Google docs app.

Morning,

Cauliflower, your meatball recipe sounds amazing! That’s going on the menu for next week.

Today’s plan:

B: eggs scrambled with butter and cream
L: hm broccoli and Stilton soup
D: spag, Bol, courgetti

TOTM arrived this morning. Sure it’s early but remember this WOE is quite good at messing with your hormones. Explains why the scales haven’t moved much though, which is a relief.

Really need to get up but so CBA. I hate the dark mornings and would love a lazy day off. Hope everyone has a good day. Keep chugging away at that water, people.

whojamaflip · 17/10/2019 06:24

Just weighed myself this morning and the scales are saying I've lost 6 lbs already!!! This can't be right can it? Wondering if it's water weight I've lost cos I don't look any different and my clothes don't appear any looser!!!

Just seems a huge amount to drop in 3 days......

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/10/2019 06:53

Thanks, SittingontheSidelines, that worked! Feel a bit silly for not noticing that sooner. Updated now.

Not posting much ATM as I'm massively busy - started a full-time post-grad course and I'm directing a play - but I'm still here and KOKOing.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/10/2019 06:55

Oh and it's perfectly possible, @whojamaflip, I lost 8lb in my first week of my first week. Was mostly water but probably a couple of lbs of fat.

littlebillie · 17/10/2019 07:00

Hi can anyone add me I'm starting this weekend please.

I have gained 10ib since last year and I want it gone before Christmas thank you 🙏

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/10/2019 07:15

you're on, littlebillie. 10lbs should be doable Grin

Nonononon · 17/10/2019 07:28

Another great nights sleep for me!! This is amazing, it has to be the diet. It's the only thing that's changed.
I'm still taking 2.5 melatonin at night, but before the diet I would take that and still be tossing and turning.
If this keeps up I can stop taking that too.
So pleased, it's been torturous not being able to sleep properly recently (well for the past year) when I was previously such a good sleeper.. funny now that I think about it.. I've been eating a carb heavy diet for the past year too, I was never really bothered about carbs/sweets, used to have the odd bit of wholemeal toast and maybe a sweet potato but id never eat things like cakes, packs of sweets or add things like garlic bread to my meals etc.. for some reason I started then it got out of control and looking back that's when my skin went awful and my sleep screwed up too. I've never made that correlation before.
I really hope this keeps up, I'll be able to start exercising again! I've been too tired to even contemplate it for so long now.

I was tempted to weigh myself tbis morning then rememberd all the olives I ate last night so thought I might be a little bloated because of all the salt haha.
So I will wait till Monday!

B: coffee with almond milk, then eggs something when I get to work.
L: kale coleslaw with tuna mayo
D: veg packed chilli con carne and cheese with cauli rice.

Loads of water!

Nonononon · 17/10/2019 07:29

Thats 2.5mg* of melatonin (not 2.5 tablets..)

8Track · 17/10/2019 07:29

Ooh just crashed downwards through the 80kg barrier!! Yay mini victory!

Play sounds fab Greebo, I loved lurking on the last thread and reading your triumphs!

Nono that cabbage sounds delish. Mmm fennel! I had a pile of it braised à la Biwi last weekend. Prima you've reminded me about broc and Stilton soup!! That's on next week's lunch list!!

Today's plan:
B - leftover bratwurst with a slice of cheddar
L - cauli cheese soup
D - turkey strips cooked in butter, hoping for a creamy sauce. And spinach. (DP is cooking. He's very supportive, but has no need to know carb counts so suggestions can be a bit carby!! So far this week, peas and sweet n sour stir fry Blush We didn't have them!)

And off to a private view at a gallery. Must imagine the big stick and avoid the delicious champagne!

HillRunner · 17/10/2019 07:34

I've dropped nearly 2kg.... pretty sure it's all water weight though at this point.

SittingontheSidelines · 17/10/2019 07:50

Directing! That's impressive @GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal (and I felt stupid too but consoled myself with the thought that it had just miraculously appeared)

SittingontheSidelines · 17/10/2019 07:52

Oh just noticed my phone updated last night, could there be a connection?

Rshard · 17/10/2019 08:47

Morning all

So many lovely things being cooked, I’ve yltajen screenshots of them all. I spotted this in last weekends paper, haven’t tried it

Oct '19 - Week 1 Low Carb Bootcamp - Here we go!
Rshard · 17/10/2019 09:03

Ffs I meant to say taken, I don’t know what that other word means!

venusandmars · 17/10/2019 09:11

For those who are concerned that they've only lost water this is a GOOD part of low carb.

On a higher carb diet the energy is stored in our muscles and liver as glycogen (and then when the glycogen stores are full, the energy is laid down as fat). Then when we exercise, or get hungry, the glycogen stores release glucose into the blood stream.

Glycogen storage is also linked with water retention - biochemically every gram of glycogen is associated with 3g water.

At the start of a low carb diet the glycogen stores are being depleted and not refilled, so you loose the associated water (hence some of the peeing we experience) and therefore some weight.

On a calorie restricted diet the same would happen BUT in that case as soon as you ate, glycogen would be created and the associated water would be retained. (that's why people can crash diet, lose a few pounds to get into a special dress, then put it all back on the next morning).

With a low carb lifestyle once the glycogen has been used up our bodies turn to fat for energy and start using that up (hurrah!) That is what we are aiming for - the ongoing use of fat (eaten fat and body fat) as our principal source of energy.

So losing a lot of weight fast in the initial stages might be due to water loss but it's an important step on the way to longer term fat loss. And you'll only regain that lost 'water weight' if you abandon this way of eating and return to carbs.

You may have lost water from your body but rest assured you're not dehydrated (assuming you ARE drinking water, water, water). The biochemical process in the liver that converts fat requires lots of water to make it happen efficiently, so keep on keeping on with the water consumption.

venusandmars · 17/10/2019 09:15

B - Creamy scrambled eggs with crispy pancetta
L - home made watercress soup
D - salmon, kale, roast cauliflower
It's a lovely autumn morning here so I'm walking to the swimming pool my annual accounts can wait till tomorrow

VeryLittleOwl · 17/10/2019 10:13

B: Yoghurt
L: Cheese crust omelette with leeks
S: Not sure - I'm going to see the National Theatre Live broadcast of A Midsummer Night's Dream, it starts at 7pm, which means I have to leave home at 6.15pm and won't be back home until after 10pm. Might have to smuggle some pepperami and babybel into the cinema in my handbag!

venusandmars · 17/10/2019 10:16

verylittleowl do you have time to squeeze in some veg soup (with cream) before you go? Not too filling but good for you, then you snack on pepperoni in the interval.

Dia12 · 17/10/2019 10:26

Morning all, I'm hoping to get back on the wagon after many failed attempts since the January bootcamp. I've learnt that I really like the way I feel when I'm on this WOE.
My dream weight loss would be10kgs and get to 136 lbs but would be happy with even a 8kg loss.....it would mean 60% of my wardrobe which I look hideous in right now would be available to wear again!

ShagMeRiggins · 17/10/2019 10:27

venusandmars are you being mentored by StuntNun? Hmm

I’ve read loads about this stuff and consider myself a relatively intelligent person, but could never have penned such a clear and thorough explanation.

Mine would have been “yeah it’s maybe water but that’s good to release the stored wotsits and ketones might play a part I’m not sure but yeah but no it’s good be happy with the loss you’re doing great.” Very Vicky Pollard Meets LCHF.

So, thank you.

prettybird · 17/10/2019 10:28

Still trying to make up for the lack of veg on Sunday and Tuesday, so had a lovely veg soup last night (carrots from the garden, shallots, neeps, celeriac and cabbage, in home made but very old chicken stock from the freezer Smile making space for some stockpiling Wink) and will have it again tonight.

Love the look of the halloumi and broccoli bake - and even have all the ingredients already (including chillis from the garden) Smile

prettybird · 17/10/2019 10:30

Shagmeriggins - my explanation would be similar to yours. I'd add in, but anyway, it works Wink

Twit · 17/10/2019 10:38

Morning!
It turned out I wasn't very hungry yesterday, so I ate egg mayonnaise and celery for dinner and no snacks, 1/2 of the soup...and drank 2.5l water.
Today I've already had a hardboiled egg, the other half of the broccoli and stilton soup, with a load of salmon flakes and some soft cheese mixed in! Blush
For dinner I have pork belly and spinach and for tea I have food, I'm just not sure what I want yet. 🤷‍♀️
My stomach feels happier, although I'm feeling a bit run down and a wee bit shaky again- but not too bad atm.

Hope the day goes well for you all 😊

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 17/10/2019 10:53

Morning all.

Well, didn't stop peeing till 4am, (my body is really not used to this much water Blush ) but after only a few hours sleep I feel really refreshed, which is very unusual for me!

Not sure about food plan for today yet. Husband has gone food shopping. Shock

Wow, well done with all the weight losses, and big thanks to @venusandmars for that brilliant explanation.

Confession- I've never had halloumi Blush what's it like?

prettybird · 17/10/2019 11:44

Halloumi is sort of squeaky cheese Confused (when you try it, you'll see what I mean Wink)

Like a firm Mozzarella - almost rubbery, but not.
