Morning all! Very sorry for the late start. I set my alarm. Woke up. Wondered why I'd set my alarm and went straight back to sleep Blush

Anyhoo.

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

For those of us who are new, the spreadsheet is not only where you record your weight (if you want to - it's not obligatory), it's also where you'll find lots of other useful information. Look at the tabs at the bottom for the rules, a veg counter (that will work out your carb count for you if you're using it for a recipe), and lots of other resources to help you learn more about low carbing.

I'll be back to post more stuff later this morning, but for now just wanted to get the link out there.

If you're using your phone to access the thread, you will need to download the Google docs app.

Er that's halloumi

Cauliflowerpower · 15/10/2019 21:56

Mmmmmm hall limo my favourite! Lol

RozHuntleysStump · 15/10/2019 21:56

First day done. I have a headache but soldiering on. Will be glad when the transition period is over as I really suffer.

rosesandsunflowers · 15/10/2019 22:02

@BIWI thanks for your reply earlier today. Only just reading everything as it's been a manic day. I went for scrambled eggs in the end cooked with butter and a splash of cream! I've been adding more salt to my food today. I don't usually add salt to food at all so it feels weird to add it but I understand with this WOE that it's vital. I think I'll have spinach with my eggs tomorrow morning. It's my birthday but I'm going to do my best to stick to this as much as possible - I may however have a cheeky glass of champagne at dinner!

SummerSazz · 15/10/2019 22:46

Thanks all for your kind messages and @Almahart 🤜 - that's a friendly fist bump, rather than a punch! We are still in the same house too and will be for a while but events recently mean I really need to push that forward

Went to a friends for tea and she made crispy chicken quarters with skin on with ratatouille- probably a tad carbish with the tomato but I didn't have to cook so I'll take that!!

Nice to see new menu ideas and remember how easy low carbing really can be.

Don't forget the water 💦 💦 💦 everyone, it makes a huge difference!

My alarm is set for 4.15am as I away with work for the next two days so sleep time. I'll be absent for a bit but will be back....

namechange5575 · 15/10/2019 23:43

Hello hello. I started May boot camp at 14 stone, finished it at 12.11. Started eating carbs and put loads on so went back to low carb after a few week - yesterday weighed in at 12.5. I haven't been this light in ten years and feel really positive about the future. Well done everyone starting -it is really hard to begin with but the food is delicious and the benefits are amazing. Weight loss, appetite reduction and stabilized energy are my favourites.

Summery1 · 16/10/2019 00:01

Sorry Almahart & SummerSazz to be going through tough times. You're wise not to go to food comfort.

I'm enjoying reading the food posts, for dinner inspiration. Keep them coming.

Fabulous kitchen BIWI. Super tidy as well.

After a rubbish dinner yesterday, I was determined to do better today. So...
B: 3 eggs, spinach mushrooms tomatoes. 2 creamy coffees.
L: paté with celery
D: meatzza, with broccoli.
S. Pepperoni.

I tripped up then and had 2 mini bars of 85% chocolate. 4.6g carb per bar. Evenings are my tricky time.

Thanks to posters, who advised to eat plenty and not get hungry.
Ready for day 3!

SittingontheSidelines · 16/10/2019 00:03

@Nonononon my experience is as another poster said above, in the first few days don't worry about how much you eat, it's easier to stay on track if you're not hungry. After a while you'll find yourself not thinking about snacks and even being surprised that it's meal time. A lot of people will find themselves dropping a meal altogether (but you must eat three meals during the first two weeks) when you low carb it's much easier to follow you're appetite.

Breakfast and lunch as posted earlier. For dinner I had two home made burgers with a Parmesan top and a massive dressed salad.

Almahart · 16/10/2019 06:24

I need to knock the dark choc on the head. I have a bit of melted chocolate with cream stirred in every night which is fine as an occasional bc light treat but not for bc first two weeks.

Off to a conference today, am going to take pp’s advice and have a big breakfast of bacon and scrambled eggs and take some lc snacks with me.

Rshard · 16/10/2019 06:30

Has anyone tried paleo granola? Popped up in my Ocado offers and seems to be quite low carb, so perhaps ok for a little sprinkle on yoghurt occasionally once in boot camp lite?

Rayna37 · 16/10/2019 06:45

Rshard is it in a yellow box? Checked online, still a bit too carby even for BC lite (17g with 8.6 of sugar) though will be good for maintenance and has inspired me to check the shelves and read a few packets. DH would like! Do let me know if you've found one lower than this.

There's a recipe in the Sarah Wilson I Quit Sugar book for a coconutty granola (might be in the recipe threads?!) I sometimes make which is really good.

Rayna37 · 16/10/2019 06:49

Loooong day yesterday so by the time I got in well past 9 I just had some yogurt and not the planned smoked salmon, spinach and eggs. The chicken I ate at 5pm totally kept me going though.

Pretty much no veg all day though, a bit short on water, and about 4 cups of tea/coffee with milk so not the best. Should have a good one today.

ShagMeRiggins · 16/10/2019 06:53

Ugh. Not enough water yesterday and I’m feeling it this morning. Just...thick. But not in the stupid sense.

Spent a fair bit of time last night trying to edit my own face out of Before & After photos you upload here.

A bit grumpy if I’m honest, and an early meeting today so skipping breakfast (I can do this because I’ve been low carbing for 6,00 years, but newbies—eat your breakfast!)

Anyway, BIWI your kitchen is superb, the blue is a triumph, and I’m pretending all the books are cookbooks.

WATER!!!!!

OopsBird · 16/10/2019 07:03

@AthelstaneTheUnready well done on giving up smoking! That's like a whole bootcamp on its own!
Love the Grilled Halloumi bake recipe, will try it soon.
I'm drinking 3.5 l per day but am often popping for the toilet often! I visit the toilet everywhere I go.
DH's birthday yesterday , I made a chocolate cake but got the recipe from Diet Doctor. It had no flour , no sugar and no sweetener and was v nice! Only ingredient forbidden on LC BC was chocolate- 70%. I only had one slice 😬
Had leg cramps on Monday night which I think are related to this so yesterday I took Dioralyte. Don't know if that is allowed or not to compensate for lost salts?

Themyscira · 16/10/2019 07:05

Stayed up too late last night and The Hunger hit. Totally fell off the wagon.

Dusting myself off and trying again, because I know that low carb is better for me.

Nonononon · 16/10/2019 07:09

Morning everyone.
Feel much better this morning than I did yesterday, had another amazing sleep which is a real triumph for me as I've been struggling with my sleep for about a year now.
Busy these next few days, I've been stuck at home since Monday so that's not been helping on the snacking front. I always eat too much when I'm at home!
I'm yet to decide what I'm eating today but have lots to choose from, so i will be back later with food diary.
Have a good one!

Rshard · 16/10/2019 07:22

Thanks rayna, there were a few different ones. I’ll do a bit more checking as I’d only looked at the carb count.

Rayna37 · 16/10/2019 07:39

Oopsbird I'm afraid Dioralyte is mainly glucose so you absolutely shouldn't take it on a LC diet. What you need is something like High 5 Zero tablets- easiest to buy these online or some sports/health food shops. They have all the things you need from the dioralyte without the sugar. Or in an emergency, water with some salt and a bit of lemon juice I think helps?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 16/10/2019 07:42

yum yum, think I'll try the hall limo as well. Is that the squeaky one?

Diarolyte has a lot of glucose in it, if I remember correctly, so much better do what (is it pretty?) does, and stick some lemon juice and salt in your drinking water. I do resort to magnesium tablets occasionally - but before bedtime as they can make you sleepy!

Themyscira, low/poor sleep is notoriously linked to poor hunger signalling. It may not be possible for you, but for these two weeks, really, REALLY try and get early nights and as much sleep as you can. Apart from all the wonderful things about sleeping, it will also help with hunger and weightloss.

And thanks for the congrats oopsbird Grin. I should probably stop announcing it, since it's been 7 weeks now Blush and I genuinely feel like a non-smoker now. However, I also gave up drinking just over 3 weeks ago (I was really unwell in September hence all the giving up) and that is proving to be the bigger challenge. Sigh.

And you know what's really embarrassing? I'm 47, and now I'm doing this BC, it will be the first time since I was 14 that I have hit the holy quartet of not smoking, not drinking, eating well, and drinking enough water at the same time. Seriously, I have never done all four at the same time in my adult life.

Shit.

PrimaDonna123 · 16/10/2019 07:59

Wow, that’s a lot of positive changes Athel, very well done. I often think life would be so much easier and I’d be slimmer if I didn’t drink. Still two weeks off will be a good start then if I can stick to weekends and moderation, I’m hoping that will be a good start.

Today’s plan:

B: Greek yog and double cream with a sprinkle of cinnamon
L: cheese crusted omelette from the Diet Doctor website. If you’ve not tried this yet, you sooooo should. Best way to eat any kind of omelette.
D: spag Bol on either courgetti or kale (fried in butter) depending on whether I can be arsed walking to the shop.

Just back from a circuits class to so exercise - done.

Have a good day everyone

Rayna37 · 16/10/2019 08:11

On drinking, I've found the Drinkaware App really helpful. It's a slightly clunky app that could be easily improved which is a shame but I find it useful to log my drinks to record my units, to keep an eye on my monthly totals, number of drink free days and rolling averages. I find if a couple of drinks are going to take me from "green" to "increased risk" (based on an average of over 14 units per week) either for my rolling 28 day average or my monthly amount, then I really think twice about them except on holiday obvs. Keeps you honest, over time very easy to see if you're really drinking more than you think.

ShagMeRiggins · 16/10/2019 08:20

Stayed up too late last night and The Hunger hit. Totally fell off the wagon.

Why, Themyscira? Not why were you up late, but why did you fall off the wagon?

Was there no Bootcamp food available? why not?

If there was Bootcamp food available, what made you choose to eat something else anyway?

VeryLittleOwl · 16/10/2019 08:37

Morning, everyone.

B: yoghurt
L: Just seen PrimaDonna's mention of the cheese-crusted omelette, so going to try that!
S: Bacon-wrapped chicken with green veg

Twit · 16/10/2019 08:40

Morning! Hope you're all ok? Lovely kitchen, @BIWI.
I stuck to my eating plan...a bit. Blush
I didn't cheat or anything, but oooh there were moments when I wanted to. I ate more chicken than I had planned, some melted cheese (which I do in the microwave but find oddly satisfying), and a strip of pork belly along with my chicken for tea. Oh and I added shallot to it, and some soft cheese.
2.5 litres of water was drunk, yay!

Today I have woken up with wobbly legs and a headache, so carb flu is coming. (I get it each time) I'm going to get some marmite later to drink, and see if that helps.
Still, onwards and downwards. I've lost 3 lbs so far, which, especially considering it's also the run up to Hell Week is great.

Anyway. Today's menu...
Breakfast: egg and tea (no milk, although I only use whole lactose free milk which is 2.5g per 100 (iirc) so later on it might come back when I'm on the maintenance part.)
Dinner: pork belly, spinach (with butter) and mushrooms.
Tea: broccoli and stilton soup. I might buy some cream or use some soft cheese to add to it for more fat, but I do need to be careful with dairy. 🤔

Hope you all have a good day sloshing around with all that water, and no cheating otherwise you'll get the Big Stick and no one wants that...Shock

whojamaflip · 16/10/2019 08:54

Morning - I am here and have started but I can't update the spreadsheet - on an ancient iPad which won't let me download it!

Please would someone update my starting weight? I was 156lb on Monday

Been sticking to the rules and God am I craving something sweet! Please tell me it gets better?
