Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - at last the finishing line!

BIWI · 22/07/2019 08:23

Isn't 10 weeks a long time!

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here one last time

Although this is the last official weigh-in, this thread will stay up for general chat/support until the next Bootcamp - probably in October.

I hope everyone has a good 'final' result.

Every Bootcamp is different, but this one has, I have to say, been remarkably well behaved Grin. I've lost the Big Stick somewhere in the back of a cupboard!

While I know you're all here and reading because I know people don't read all the posts if you want to take the opportunity to meet @ShagMeRiggins (and me) for a lighthearted Bootcamp style & beauty event probably with gin thrown in for good measure send me a PM!

I love the photos. We’ve come so far, with baby steps.

Don’t forget the WATER!!!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 28/07/2019 19:45

Thanks Chipping! Actresses tend to be thin though. Even after the weight loss I'm still the biggest woman in the cast!

We finish on 4th August, and it's going well. At our last London show we had over 600 in the audience including a BBC director who may - may - have a role for me if his next drama is green lit.

NigellaAwesome · 28/07/2019 21:15

Great photos Greebol (before AND after). I hope your mum is ok.

prettybird · 28/07/2019 21:30

I pleased with myself yesterday at the garden party in the pouring rain Hmmfor which I had made the roulade (and a pavlova Wink): I just had a few rollitos of pastrami, rocket & cream cheese, followed by a burger with tzatziki (that I'd made from the friend-whose-party-it-was' home grown cucumbers and his garlic, with full fat Greek yoghurt and some mint from my garden and olive oil; and no alcohol Shock. Just water all night Halo It helped that the wine that he had on offer was crap. If I'm going to drink, I want to drink something decent Wink

I had one slice of the roulade Grin

Notlostjustexploring · 28/07/2019 21:38

Ooooo... burger with tzatziki sounds tasty. Well done on sticking to it!!!

How did the roulade taste? Random question about artificial sweeteners - do some taste better than others? I've gone right off diet drinks (except diet coke and diet irn bru), so I've not experimented with low carb desserts yet for fear of disappointment.

prettybird · 28/07/2019 21:53

The roulade tasted normal - really mostly of the cream and the raspberries and cooked (sweet) egg white. But there again, it only uses 3 tablespoons Smile

I've used erithrytol in Nigella's flourless chocolate torte (almond flour, cocoa and lime zest, served with a lime cream). It leaves a bit of a "fresh" taste in your mouth (akin to the sensation that toothpaste leaves) - but not so much that 18 year old ds doesn't wolf down the left overs Wink I use inulin and lime juice in the lime cream - so it's doubly good for your gut Grin

I get both the inulin and erithrytol from Amazon. BTW: inulin is good for caramelising with a blowtorch (I use it for low carb creme brûlée) - if a little chewy Wink

TheWayOfTheWorld · 28/07/2019 22:10

I've been MIA for a while - been mainly KOKOing but work etc has been busy.

Just popped on to say "wow" to @GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal's latest photo, you look amazing! (and I'm still trying to work out if I know you in real life Grin) but sorry to hear about your mum.

I'm off on hols tomorrow so have furiously been making LCHF stuff to take with me - cream cheese pancakes, fathead dough nachos, Keto choc mousse - so I can stay on the straight and narrow.

Off to read the full thread.

Almahart · 28/07/2019 22:12

Greebo great news about the talent scout!

prettybird I feel like we need a pudding tutorial from you

Almahart · 28/07/2019 22:18

Just revisited your amazing sweet things recipe thread!

I get really confused about sweeteners, what’s the difference between stevia and erithyrol?

prettybird · 28/07/2019 22:22

I started the Puddings and other Sweet things Recipe thread - with BIWI's permission Grin - with a warning Wink

For some of us, even having anything "sweet" would derail. For others (like me), it means that I can still do foodie menus when we have people round for dinner Smile

It's also only suitable for after the 1st two weeks of Boot Camp, when we are trying to educate our taste buds and brain away from craving sweet stuff.

Notlostjustexploring · 28/07/2019 23:00

Is inulin another type of sweetener? How does it differ from the erythritol? I'm always interested in the whys in cooking, and I've never really thought about sweeteners in detail before so I'm interested!

Just your mention of low carb crème brulé (sugary crème brulé being by favourite dessert ever) reminds me that I'm not someone that can tolerate desserts. Back in January bootcamp I'd make myself a hot chocolate in an espresso cup, 50/50 double cream and dark chocolate. Then I started having seconds. Then a bigger cup. Then using milk chocolate. Twas a slippery slope. I just don't do moderation...

Although speaking of low carb staples. My entire house is now cutting down on sugar, so I made a banana loaf to stop my husband buying brownies at work, and my first one used almond flour and coconut flour. Coconut flour=>boak

prettybird · 28/07/2019 23:33

Inulin is indeed another type of sweetener. Iirc, it's made from chicory root. It's also supposed to be good for gut health.

It's more like icing sugar so not always a suitable substitute for caster/granulated sugar (which is when I use erithrytol).

I make Tom Kerridge's creme brûlée from his Dopamine Diet book (I've also done a milk tart inspired version with cinnamon and almond flavouring; milk tart is a South African dessert). It's a faff and I only make enough for that dinner, so I'm not tempted into too much!

The chocolate orange & cardamom pots are a bit more of a risk as the quantity makes more than I usually use and they are delicious . But ds loves them, so I make sure he eats them quickly! Wink

Ditto with the flourless chocolate lime torte Wink

Notwatchingtvtoday · 29/07/2019 08:37

Morning, great photos and lovely pudding ideas.
Had to do a quick dinner last night, so threw some stuff together and it was successful, really easy and very tasty
Eton Mess LCHF, I whipped up some double cream with Greek yogurt last night, chucked in some raspberries, divided it into little pots and then gave family a couple of mini meringues (M&S), so a bit like an Eton Mess.

Cheesy chicken breasts, I sliced some chicken breasts nearly in half and layed them flat, sprinkled with fresh basil leaves and some ready grated Gruyere cheese, olive oil, salt and pepper and roasted them in the oven, was quick and easy .

ChippingInLowCarbing · 29/07/2019 09:08

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal I’m glad your Mum was able to keep that down. Let us know how she does today!

Last week then. Have you enjoyed it? Hope the BBC Director gets his green light!

You look fabulous! What’s your plan now?

Rayna37 · 29/07/2019 12:05

Just checking in, still here eating lots of eggs in between a large run of lovely meals out which have varied in terms of how LC I've been. I was very good in Cafe Rouge with my toddler last week - no croutons in my salad and no potatoes with my main. A delicious Italian while away with work - calamari and then pork cheek, though did eat some mash and have had more lightly battered stuff recently than I should! Also I have eaten a couple of bits of toast. Amazing "date night" meal out on Friday which was fairly low carb if we pretend pudding didn't happen and then roast beef with all the trimmings yesterday. Hence lots of egg based meals in between. I think I had omelette for dinner several nights last week and two scrambled eggs most mornings! Lunch mostly egg mayo with a bit of cheese and maybe chives, adding spinach, tomato and cucumber back in to lunch this week though; after doing well on the Dukan diet in 2012 I'm conscious of what I know now better and I'm not keen to go without veg!
124.6 this morning.

prettybird · 29/07/2019 12:31

Still 12 stone 3 1/4lb this morning (although I did see under 3lb last week).

Had a bad day yesterday with attacks of the munchies and therefore too many snacks Blush - but on reflection a) I didn't have enough water and b) I never had any eggs Shock

All those egg yolks in the fridge are, in a strange way, putting me off having eggs Confused

....must make myself go and make myself some rich scrambled eggs right now Grin

YesQueen · 29/07/2019 13:29

I'm doing an online Sainsbury's shop (don't usually use them!)
Anything that people really recommend?

starsky22 · 29/07/2019 13:31

Aloha! I do not know where the last week has gone, everytime I had a second to catch up on the thread something distracted me and i never got round to posting! But I have been sticking to low carb! If you ignore the chocolate cake yesterday

Last week I lost 4lbs and this week 3lbs, so I've lost 12lbs this bootcamp! Target is to lose more 2lbs before i go on holiday which will mean I've lost a stone and will be in the 9's.

Nice to hear from toots and ilovecherries and loving all the photos! Very inspiring! Off to catch up on the rest of the thread now.

BIWI · 29/07/2019 13:55

@YesQueen their Greek yoghurt is lovely - it's a Taste The Difference one.

Beautiful weather this morning, such a nice chance of pace, but glad to have had the rain as it cooled things down.

Today is my last day of freedom before my scouts and scout leader return tomorrow night and we rush into prep for holidays. I’ve missed them terribly but have loved the personal space yet it’s been surprisingly lonely, especially without a car!

I’ve eaten quite well on my own, but not much of it. Lots of water, a tea in the morning, and about one meal per day. I know this isn’t right but I’m just not hungry! “Lunch” is often a ham/cheese roll up from the fridge but at least my dinners are proper—the fondue, a steak with French beans last night (couldn’t finish it), tonight will be scampi fried in garlic with a spinach salad (and some tomatoes) or possibly I’ll make another buffalo mozzarella salad.

I’d love to be eating two proper meals a day, as I usually fast in the mornings, but can’t find an appetite. It’s really frustrating.

Athelstane how’s the smoking going?

Greebo exciting BBC news! So pleased for you.

WayoftheWorld I’m in awe of your holiday cooking—how do you manage to be so organised? I throw a roasted chicken and some raw veg for the night we arrive then hop it to the supermarket the next day!

Notjustexploring I’m a fan of xylitol but that’s for the tooth/gum benefit. To me it’s nicer than other sweeteners but I don’t bake or make puddings—maybe twice a year—so can’t speak for its qualities as a substitute.

It’s great to see so many contributing with updates and daily input. The thread is staying strong despite Bootcamp being over and summer holidays in full swing for many. Many of us agree the support here has been invaluable for keeping us on track, even with periods of time away we’re all warmly welcomed back into the food. And the humour has been top notch.

No real news other than I’ve finally submitted my manuscript to an agent and have never really talked about it to anyone, not even my husband knows but wanted to post something warm and fuzzy to all.

Notlostjustexploring · 29/07/2019 14:05

See you people and all the bloody butter chat (from a few weeks ago, but still) I've just bought myself some french butter as recommended earlier in bootcamp. Bloomin delicious. Ate too much of it while waiting for my scrambled egg to cook.

ShagMeRiggins · 29/07/2019 14:10

I've just bought myself some french butter as recommended earlier in bootcamp

As my Mémée, who died 14 years ago today, would say, Tout est meilleur avec du beurre.. Bon appetit.

Notlostjustexploring · 29/07/2019 14:10

Shag other than I’ve finally submitted my manuscript to an agent and have never really talked about it to anyone, not even my husband knows.

As in a book? We all know a real live author??? I'm in awe!

I was going to reply to say that when I see a post of yours I automatically take a drink of water, but you snuck that but about a manuscript in at the end!!

YesQueen · 29/07/2019 14:12
