Week 3 - Sumer 19 Low Carb Bootcamp - Bootcamp Light?

BIWI · 27/05/2019 08:09

Morning all. Today sees the start of week 3, which is when you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means you can now introduce some fruit, some nuts and seeds and alcohol in moderation.

Note the bold formatting!

However you don't have to move on to Bootcamp Light if you don't want to. If it's working for you, then by all means stay on Bootcamp. Some people choose to do Bootcamp during the week but take a more relaxed approach at the weekend.

Here are carb counts for fruit - you can see that most of them are pretty high. These are taken from Sainsbury's website and show the amount of carbs per 100g:

Canteloupe melon 4
Raspberries 4.6
Blackberries 5.1
Galia/Honeydew melon 5.3
Passion fruit 5.8
Strawberries 6.1
Watermelon 6.8
Peach 7.5
Plums 8.8
Papaya 8.8
Nectarine 9
Blueberries 9.1
Pineapple 10.1
Kiwi 11
Apples 11.8
Mango 14.1
Lychees 14.3
Grapes 17
Pomegranate seeds 18.7
Banana 23.2

When it comes to nuts and seeds, these too vary widely:

Brazils 3.1
Walnuts 3.3
Pine nuts 4 (but beware - toasted pine nuts are 10)
Macadamias 5.3
Pecans 5.8
Desiccated coconut (technically a fruit!) 6.4
Almonds 6.9 (smoked almonds are 7.7)
Monkey nuts 9.3
Peanuts (salted) 10.9
Fresh coconut (from the chilled cabinet) 15.2
Cashews 18.1

(These carb counts for either salted or unsalted)

Seeds:

Sesame 0.9
Poppy 4.7
Chia 8.6
Pumpkin 15.2
Sunflower 16.4

As far as alcohol is concerned, the best drinks are clear spirits (gin/vodka/whisky/rum) but you need to be careful what mixer you're using. Soda is by far the best option, but if you want something else, you'll need to go down the artificial sweetener route to keep the carbs low.

Dry white wine and Champagne are OK, and red wine. Avoid beer and cider.

@Youwanapizzame I love Thai. Would something coconut milk based like a green curry be low carb? My homemade version is but I'll admit it's not restaurant standard!

m0therofdragons · 29/05/2019 17:36

Winning at water today Grin

Almahart · 29/05/2019 17:37

Good day today

Greek yog for bf
A Pret pot with salmon and avocado for early lunch
M&S chicken tikka pieces and some antipasti for second lunch Wink

Not at all hungry but have some broccoli to roast later if I feel like it

SittingontheSidelines · 29/05/2019 18:11

1 hot mug of almond milk. Water. Mint tea. Black tea.

Lunch leftover burger and asparagus, Samphire, tomato and mushrooms.

Dinner turkey curry on leaves with cucumber and yogurt.

Hello everyone. I have stayed on track today but I have been feeling low and sorry for myself generally so have pined after a chocolate hobnob all day. That's my emotional eating biscuit of choice. Why do we feel the need to comfort eat? Anyway. I haven't had one. I'm consoling myself with fantasies of my official cheat day on my DHs birthday in July.

Youwanapizzame · 29/05/2019 18:43

Thanks @Biwi and @motherofdragons Thai is absolutely my favourite I love searingly hot food. I was thinking maybe the steak if they do it. They do do some English food too so there might be salad. Do you think Tom yum soup might be ok?

Youwanapizzame · 29/05/2019 18:45

Aaahhh I see most recipes call for quite a slug of sugar... hmmmmm

mrwalkensir · 29/05/2019 19:01

@m0therofdragons - thanks for reminding me that I've bought Thai curry paste 🙂 . Sort of vegetabley moussaka thing for breakfast, chicken/coleslaw/watercress for lunch. Not sure what next...

Ninkaninus · 29/05/2019 19:04

Any of the clear soups/broths would be fine. I always get a soup to start, a red or green curry (I don’t eat all the sauce), a beef or a pork dish of some kind (I ask for it without noodles if it’s a stir fry), a side of broccoli or whatever vegetable appeals on the day, and swerve the rice or noodles.

StuntNun · 29/05/2019 20:28

SittingontheSidelines your hot mug of almond milk reminds me that I used to make a low carb chai latte by dunking a chai teabag in a mug of hot almond milk. Must try that again.

m0therofdragons · 29/05/2019 20:55

At home, I make curry using spices and creme fraiche. Planning to make one on Friday now Grin

TheWayOfTheWorld · 29/05/2019 21:20

Glad to see people are having good days. I am a bit perplexed at the moment as I've taken about 3 forkfuls of my dinner and feel stuffedConfused

Breakfast was 2 sausages and a creamy coffee, lunch was chicken salad with mayo followed by a another creamy coffee mid afternoon. Plenty of water.

Anyhoo, was feeling pretty peckish when I got home at 8.30, decided to do cauliflower rice sautéed in butter with mozzarella and fresh tomatoes. Ate 2 rollitos with onion and garlic dip whilst preparing this feast. I've put dinner to the side for a few moments to see if this feeling of fullness subsides, otherwise I am going to box it up for lunch another day.

I know I used a lot of butter, but still Shock

VeryLittleOwl · 29/05/2019 21:47

L: Chicken salad
S: Chilli and veggies

DH wants a carpet picnic instead of supper for the Champions League match on Saturday. I'm thinking olives, cheese, cold meats - any other suggestions?

BIWI · 29/05/2019 21:52

Right, I need help Grin

We're about to have our kitchen re-done (and an extension built) which means we're going to be without means of cooking much for around 8 weeks Confused

We will have a fridge/freezer and the microwave. It's a combi microwave so I can grill in it and use it as a convection oven. But that's it.

Hit me with your best, easy, low carb meals that I can make. Salads are always an option, but not every night!

Decided to forgo dinner as I wasn't hungry at all and had had a sausage around 5/6. Feeling hungry now though so going to have a chunk of cheese!
Planning on some bacon & eggs for breakfast which I'm really looking forward to!
Off to bed now with a big glass of water while I'm reading as haven't met my water quota for the day Blush

RocketPockets · 29/05/2019 21:55

@BIWI have you got a slow cooker?

Ninkaninus · 29/05/2019 21:59

If you can get to M&S then their 3 for £7 deals are quite good. There’s quite a few to choose from but from memory you could get the mini egg tortillas, the manchego and Parma ham roll-ups, and some pork crackling thins.

Cucumber slices topped with tuna, salmon or crab mousse are really lovely.

Gem lettuce leaves filled with Mexican chicken (fried with fajita-style spices), avocado and salsa.

Devilled eggs.

Youwanapizzame · 29/05/2019 22:00

@thewayoftheworld I did EXACTLY this yesterday. 3 or 4 bites and that was me done.... I just wasn't hungry at all the rest of the night.... we had more today and I ate more but still a smallish plate.

Right plan of action for tomorrow. Going to have a creamy coffee and a late breakfast then Tom yung soup if they have it.

Ninkaninus · 29/05/2019 22:00

(Above for ‘carpet picnic’)

readyforsunshine · 29/05/2019 22:01

& a freezer? Do you have time to get some meals stacked up that can be simply reheated?

BIWI · 29/05/2019 22:01

Yes we have a slow cooker. That's a great idea.

OP posts:
BIWI · 29/05/2019 22:02

I will have a freezer but we're going down from 2 to one until the new one is delivered. There are some ready meals and done stuff I've cooked and frozen but not really that much space

TheWayOfTheWorld · 29/05/2019 22:04

@Youwanapizzame it's weird isn't it? DH looked at me as though I were weird when I declared I was full.

@BIWI you could also buy a cheap camping stove - you can get a CampingGaz one for £10-£15 from Amazon. Just make sure you have some ventilation.

Ninkaninus · 29/05/2019 22:04

Or their precooked bacon strips - you could put liver pâté on them and top with a slice of gherkin.

Heartyhooker · 29/05/2019 22:10

@BIWI is it worth buying\ borrowing a slow cooker or instant pot thingy. Then you could easily do stews and currys. Cauliflower and broccoli gratin would be possible . Microwave veg stir in boursain and grill maybe with grilled bacon. I'd also pick up rotisserie chicken is anywhere local does it.

Annoying day as youngest is heartbroken over his haircut as two much was cut off the back and it's all my fault as I told hairdresser to tidy it up.
L cheese and yoghurt
T omelette with mushrooms , spinach and sausage
Snack of chilli pork scratchings and creamy coffee ( not at same time)
